The Unilocal reviews sent us here– we weren’t disappointed. Our server Julí was very helpful and made delicious recommendations. We got cuttlefish croquettes, mussels in cava sauce, pescaditos fritos and fried artichokes plus a delicious bottle of sauvignon blanc– all for under 50 euros. They close at 5p for the turnover to dinner, so we ate quickly but didn’t feel rushed at all. We’ll be back!

Chef Xavi is an expert with two very important things seafood and cava. You simply cannot go wrong by putting a night out in his hands. We had after dinner drinks and dessert at el xiringo during our first night in Barcelona tasting the best cava we’ve ever had and could not resist coming back the next night. The following evening our meal began with perfectly grilled octopus, gently seared tuna, and the most delicious shrimp, but the show stopper was the seafood and rice. Everything was cooked perfectly with each ingredient standing on its own and at the same time blending perfectly. Xavi also has a great wine list and makes the best gin and tonic I’ve ever had. For dessert order the crema catalana with pineapple.

Have a seat in this tiny restaurant tucked away in the streets of Barcelonata and prepare to have your mind(and tastebuds) blown by the city’s best-kept secret: Chef Xavi. This was easily the best meal we had in our 8 days in Barcelona, and quite possibly the best meal we’ve had, period. This guy knows seafood, and he knows exactly what to do with it. Put your fate in his hands, and watch the man work. It’s like a getting private, culinary concerto from Stravinsky, and in a city renowned for its edibles, you’ll soon discover you’re in the presence of a living maestro. I could give you the specifics — clams in a rich, creamy garlic broth, cornmeal-encrusted calamari that melts in your mouth, and a seafood paella that had us scraping our plates — but why spoil the fun? Go directly to El Xiringo, and see for yourself. And if you’re still reading this, shame on you — your food is getting cold!

I wandered in here while I was exploring the fisherman’s village. Unfortunately, my brother and I were just killing time before lunch, so we weren’t planning to eat or drink anything here. We randomly ordered the grilled mussels, which ended up being the best mussels I’ve ever had. They were simply grilled and topped with a garlic aioli, and they were so sweet and fresh. The owner was nice, and this place seemed like a local’s joint. I wish I had ordered a glass of wine and some more tapas.
