Jamon Experience, especially the tasting tour, is an absolute must for any foodie or Unilocaler. I learned so much. Though my ticket salesman and general tour guide looked like a flop eared adenoidal goofball and pretty proved himself as being such in a most unhelpful manner I can’t deduct any stars from the general presentation, informative videos and tastings. Though I had read up on it all in advance, the visual presentations and tastings were what made my study of hams something meaningful. If you have the chance, this is a must. Buy your tour tickets early as they sell out fast. I purchased mine at 3:00 o’clock but couldn’t get into the experience tour until 5:00PM. You’ll get a complete history of hams, insights into the complexities of the pig raising and curing processes, most importantly first hand taste experiences of which hams are the best and what makes them the best.

If you are a Jamon connoisseur this is the place for you. All they serve is a variety of Jamon, fresh bread and wine. They have a high end Jamon is amazing. When you walk in there a shop that sell all varieties of Jamon, unfortunately by the time I was done the shop was closed. But I liked the ides of trying some before you by a pack. Upstairs that is a wall of Jamon and a carving station. As you order they freshly carve it for you. There are several TVs as well showing how the pigs are free range and they have a very nice life. Everything is organic. Service was excellent I was server by a nice man from Cuba. Great experience overall.

Jamon y mas Jamon… as we walked around the rambles, we remember the jamon experience, so we went to get tickets, the clerk told us we would have to come back after 4pm since they were having several big tours during the day. So went to the picasso musuem(disappointing) and walked our way back to the Jamon Experience. We got our tickets and waited upstairs at the restaurant to have a glass of wine, we made our way down to the museum part, it was an interesting presentation of how the pigs are raised, fed, and cured. After the presentation, you go upstairs to go taste jamon… the JAMON… never tasted such amazing jamon in my life… it was amazing yummy piggy goodness, sat back with my glass of wine(included in the tour), after the tasting you are lead downstairs to the store for another glass of wine or cava(included as well). We sampled more freebies and said screw it, we bought some jamon to bring home… best 140 euros spent for jamon. Tour was 19 euros, includes 2 wine/cava/beer, tour and tasting. So worth the cost and the new jamon knowledge.

Bored of monuments? Cathedrals? Traditional museums? Looking for something different and you love food? Then this is a fun experience! Located in front of the market. Get off at Liceu and basically go towards the market and it’s right there. A little pricy but you get two drinks, audio tour of the ‘museum’, and a tasting… so not too bad… You start off in the museum where you learn about the different types of pigs and what it takes to be the different grades of Jamon. Watch out for the mechanical pig! Then it goes through the curing process… and then once you’ve learned all you need to know, they take you to the tasting table. One by one you taste different jamons from different regions etc. Smell, touch, taste. 6 different ones… you can actually taste the difference! Mmmmmmm… the aromas. The greasiness. The sweetness. The nuttiness. The… Good experience if you have time between everything else to do in Barcelona.

Downstairs on the ground floor there is a bar where you can order sandwiches and and Jamon. I believe i’ve seen cheaper prices down in the same area — but this place and setting was — obviously touristy — but clean and not cramped as how a lot of the establishments are in the Ramblas. I didn’t want to bother with learning on how they made Jamon. I just wanted to eat! So, I got a sandwich with Jamon & emmantel cheese. Oddly enough — the staff was able to let me try almost 6 different slices of Jamon before i committed to one.

How to describe Jamon Experience? Jamon Experience is an establishment located in Las Ramblas, which is part store, part tapas bar, and part museum. When you first enter, you have the options of walking into the store or proceeding down an escalator. Going down the escalator takes you to the real highlight of this place, which is the Jamon Experience. What is the Jamon Experience you ask? It’s an audio guided, multimedia tour which guides you through the production of jamon. The tour costs 19 Euros, and included the tour and the subsequent tasting. The tour walks you through the entire production process of jamon explaining the selection of the animals, the pasturing process, and the curing of the meat. Following the tour is the tasting. They sit you in a room with 6 different selections of jamon 1 of which is Serano, 1 is Iberico, and 4 are Iberico Bellota from different regions. Along with the jamon, you are given a choice of 2 glass of beer, wine or cava(opt for the cava). The tasting includes information on each of the varieties that you are served and is really interesting. You can definitely taste the differences between each region. After the tour and tasting is over, they return you to the main floor where you can purchase some fofthe delicious jamon which you just learned so much about, or sit down at the bar for more jamon and cava(which we obviously did). It is definitely an «interesting» place and I my girlfriend and I found ourselves asking one another if we could«really believe that we are here». I mean, it’s a museum. About ham. Lastly, if you are going here from the US remember that you CANNOT take jamon back to the states. And at upwards of 100 Euros/kilo, thats an expensive mistake to make!
