Best desserts! We were already stuffed after dinner but had to try the 3 desserts, carrot cake, coffee cake and orange mandarin pudding. All of them met my high expectations. Desserts were eel made with lots of flavor but yet not super sweet or buttery. Perfect cream with the carrot cake! We plan to go back again!

Been coming for years ’cause I adore this place. Delicious cakes & cookies –homemade of course — baked with the freshest ingredients possible. Coffee is great too! Today I had the Ted Velvet Cake, a spongy layered cake made with tangy buttermilk. Delightful! Try also the famous carrot cake, the crumbly Dutch Apple pie, or the homemade Oreo cookies, about 3 times the size of the originals. Spice also rescues vintage recipes from oblivion, such as the adorably-​named Lord Baltimore cake and its counterpart, the Lady Baltimore (one is made with egg whites and the other with the yolks, though I don’t remember which is which). The prices are surprisingly low, for the quality of product offered. Only € 3,90 for a generous piece of these amazing cakes: that’s just crazy. As far as atmosphere: Here you get a truly familiar, neighborhood feel. If you’re ferling a little down, this is a good choice, as a constructive, positive energy pervades the place. (It may have to do with language conversation classes that are always taking place here.) The fellas who run it are amongst the sweetest (no pun intended) human beings you’ll ever meet. What else could you ask for from a simple cake shop in Poble Sec?

Carrot cake slice was huge! But very very sweet. If you’re not into carrot cake there’s also a lot of other cake options like raspberry cheese cake and Oreo cake and red velvet cake… cute café definitely recommend! Just be aware there’s limited space for seating

After dinner we were on the hunt for a sweet bite and thanks to Unilocal we ended up here!
Entering the small shop, it was super homey and we were greeted by a super nice gentleman.
It was bout an hour before they closed, and there were a few people still there — plus they had plenty of cake left.
We went with the cheesecake with raspberry and carrot cake!
The carrot cake has a creamy frosting on it unlike any other I’ve ever tried on carrot cake. It’s not cream cheese frosting it’s more like a whip cream and cinnamon had a baby. The cake is fluffy, not dense. Amazing! It’s a HUGE slice (which photographs VERY well lol) and I couldn’t finish it all. I really wish I had saved the rest for later haha.
Overall this was a nice sweet ending to our evening. We did get to walk it off a bit as we headed back to the hotel, but the calories were well worth it!

Depuis que je l’avais vu sur Unilocal,ce salon de thé me faisait de l’œil ! Moi qui né jure que par le combo: chaï latte et carrot cake, j’ai été comblée ! Beaucoup de choix au niveau des boissons chaudes et froides ainsi qu’au niveau des pâtisseries (cheesecake, red velvet, cake à l’oréo…).
Le service au top et le lieu très bien décoré et très cocooning. Je vous conseille chaudement de faire un tour chez Spice entre deux visites pour vous reposer en dégustant des boissons chaudes et d’excellentes pâtisseries. Joli programme non? ;)

Reviews don’t lie. Great little place tucked away in a corner near Montjuic. I was so so so happy to find it after a disappointing day. The guys working were plain adorable and it seemed like everyone in the neighborhood stopped by to say hello. There were a few people studying or working inside which made me feel welcome as a solo sitter. I had a friendly conversation with a few other guests and ate a delicious banana cake. Would love, love, love for this place to exist a few thousand miles closer…

No tengas duda de ninguna de las 5 estrellas de esta cafetería porque es un auténtico gusto a los sentidos. Fuimos por casualidad, estábamos paseando por la
zona y decidimos revisar en Unilocal que había cerca, y nos llamó mucho la atención la unanimidad de la puntuación!
Es una cafetería bastante pequeña, pero tuvimos suerte de encontrar un par de sillas libres en una mesa grande de madera que compartes sin pensar. La decoración es simple pero efectiva. Pedimos café y una carrot cake. La mejor carrot cake que he probado, y además es un suuuper buen trozo! Divino! Vimos cupcakes, y una red velvet que se veía increíble! Preparan otras bebidas y al pagar nos dijeron que por cada bebida preparada por ellos te ponen un sello en tu tarjeta de «fidelidad» al completarla tienes una bebida gratis.
Estaba muy encantada con el servicio y la calidad de lo que ofrecen, parece el fruto del esfuerzo y el cariño de sus dueños. Volveré mil veces más!

He regresado en muchas ocasiones porque me he hecho una adicta a su Carrot Cake, pero también quería decir que he probado los bagles y están deliciosos! Puedes elegir el tipo de pan y con que lo quieres, y todas las opciones son divinas!

Gracias Unilocal,por decirme que estábamos cerca de Spice cuando necesitábamos algo de dulce en una tarde de domingo! Spice es un café pequeñito con una decoración vintage y un ambiente acogedor donde probamos una tarta de zanahoria increíble de muy buen tamaño. Mi latte caramell también muy sabroso y la atención de los chicos fenomenal. Como todos los demás pasteles tenían muy buena pinta y también ofrecen bagels, seguramente volveremos… y además hay wifi gratis! Eso sí, es pequeñito pero con una mesa grande en el fondo donde puedes acomodarte con un grupo o compartir con los demás clientes si el par de mesitas están ocupadas.

We were at La Rambla and needed to refuel before dinner, so we logged on to Unilocal and found this cute place about 15 minutes away. Endri was the sweetest and recommended the cheesecake and carrot cake. Both were winners! Glad we stopped by. Great service and desserts!

This has been repeated so many times, but it´s the truth: CARROT CAKE. All their slices are pretty big, and my friends have gotten different cakes, such as their cheesecake and chocolate cake. Their service is wonderful, and they speak very good english, so no worries if you have bad Spanish like me. It´s also a good place to study, but it is a little smalll, so don´t expect your own table. If the café is full, don´t let that deter you from getting something to go! It´s well worth it.

Quedamos para merendar con unas amigas un domingo por la tarde, y por supuesto decidimos ir al Spice café. Porque ya sabemos que las tartas son inigualables, y que los cafés o tés son muy buenos. Además, el lugar es encantador y sus dueños y camarero majísimos. Que más se puede pedir. Y ni hablar de los precios, pues no es muy caro. Total, que finalmente pasamos una tarde súper agradable y muy a gusto en este sitio. Como detalle os cuento que uno de los dueños suele dar clases de conversación (en inglés) los martes y jueves. Que estáis esperando, no os arrepentiréis de la experiencia.

We found Spice toward the end of our trip, and it felt like we were home at some of our favorite coffee shops. Top 3 reasons to visit?
1. Like literally every review has raved about, the carrot cake is absolutely wonderful. Seriously. Our drinks were good too; instead of chai, our server recommended another tea (something with Yoga in the name?) that was AWESOME.
2. Service here is tops — they’re great, friendly people who would love to have a conversation with you, but are also happy to leave you alone if you’re there to study/​get things done on their speedy wifi.
3. A/​C. Glorious, glorious A/​C.
Limited hours here on weekdays. Make sure you schedule a trip to Spice when you’re here!

I always wondered why this place wasn’t busier. I found the carrot cake a little sweet and not spicy enough – same goes for the chai latte– and the Spanish bagel (minus ham, which they discounted me for! How sweet) a little salty and underwhelming (why was I getting a bagel in Barcelona??) That being said, I still craved their food and went a lot.
But the other drinks I got were fantastic – the café con leche and cortado were by far the best I got anywhere, the ebony mocha was unbelievably delicious, and my friend said her caramel mocha was amazing.
Bars in Barcelona are usually ugly and dark. Spice is gorgeous and airy, a great place to spend hours studying or talking. They have a ton of magazines, in Catalan, Spanish, and English. The staff is sweet and bilingual. This is how sweet they are: I was with a friend talking one evening, until 9:15, and they didn’t even tell me they closed at 9:00 until I went to order something else.

Tenía muchas ganas de venir aquí ya que tenía muy buenas reseñas sobre las tartas y me uno a ellas porque están buenísimas!!! Bueno hablo en general y eso que sólo he probado una, pero al parecer todo el mundo tiene buenas palabras para ellas!
El lugar es muy chiquitito pero acogedor, tiene nada más entrar un banquito en el exterior y otro en el interior justo al lado de la barra a la izquierda. A la derecha hay dos mesitas y al fondo una gran mesa para 6 – 8 personas, quizás demasiado grande, podrían caber más pequeñitas pero la grande es tan grande que se puede compartir. Fui con una amiga y nos saludaron muy sonrientes, la verdad que los camareros fueron encantadores en todo momento (no se de dónde son pero tienen acento americano, británico, no sé). Vimos la carta aunque veníamos directas a por tarta, ni siquiera acompañada de café porque veníamos de tomarlo en otro lugar. Preguntamos qué tartas tenían y me enseñaron una vitrina con todas ellas, además de la que había sobre la bonita barra hecha de cajas de madera, muy original! Todas ellas eran taaaaaan bonitas que no sabes cual escoger, el camarero era muy majete y nos recomendó compartir porque los pedazos debían de ser grandes. Yo quería probar la red velvet ya que siempre me ha intrigado esta tarta, así que mi amiga me concedió ese deseo: D (aunque cualquier otra hubiese sido una gran elección, todas parecen deliciosas!)
Nos dispusimos a atacar cucharas en mano y dios mío! el paraíso! está tremenda y llena un montón, menos mal que nos advirtió el camarero! Deliciosidad absoluta, no puedo decir mucho más, como dicen en la tv: no es lo mismo contarlo que vivirlo, así que veníd a probar los manjares del Spice Café!
Ah! Las porciones de tarta cuestan 3’75 € y de veras que son gigantes! Además pude ver gente que las pide y se las lleva para casa, bueno es saberlo!

The goods: Like the reviews said… GET THE CARROT CAKE. It’s perfectly moist and sweet and flavorful. And I usually don’t like cake. Café con leche was standard, nothing crazy, but it went well with the cake. My friend got the ginger lemon (?) cake, which was also good, but not as good as the feature dessert, personally.
The ambiance: Cute, cozy, clean. There are a couple seats outside, a couple small tables and a long table inside. Free wifi.
The people: Amazing! They were super nice and friendly. The guy that took our orders was very sweet and made us feel welcome. The boss with the «magic hands» was also very nice, although he didn’t talk to us.
I would most definitely come back for the goods, ambiance, the service.

The best carrot cake I’ve ever had. My wife doesn’t even like carrot cake and she fought me for the last bite. That should tell you something! The cake had the right balance of icing, perfect density, and not overdone on the carrots or raisins. Just perfect. It’s a cozy little shop with a few tables and two very friendly owners. It didn’t hurt that they spoke perfect English either! The cake variety changes daily, but the carrot is their specialty. Give it a try with a nice espresso and remember that if you are lucky enough to live in Barcelona, it doesn’t have to be your last piece!

No me preguntéis porqué pero siendo del barrio no conocía este local. Pero ante semejantes reseñas y estando al lado de casa, no probarlo es como pecado, no?
Pues allá que fuimos una tarde en la que necesitaba chocolate desesperadamente. Y un trozo de tarta, claro. Creo que las opciones de tartas es insuperable. La de zanahoria estaba de impresión (ya decía el camarero que ésta es la «reina del local») y la otra que comimos (perdonad mi poca memoria) no estando mal, no era como la de zanahoria.
Tengo que decir que lo único que me decepcionó un poco es el chocolate, que aunque bueno, era como chocolate con leche (que me encanta, eh?) pero que no era lo que a priori me había esperado (hubiera preferido más bien un chocolate a la taza, de esos espesos). La nata, eso sí, estaba muy buena. O sea, básicamente era un suizo pero de leche con chocolate.
Resto de cosas: es un local muy pero que muy acogedor. Tienen wifi y es de los locales donde he estado más a gusto últimamente. La carta me gusta mucho: eso de poder tomarte un café con leche medida XXL mola (yo lo hago en casa, vosotros no??) o el té con leche… ains, es que todo es bueno!
La opción de las conversaciones en English me llama mucho la atención y es posible que me animé, ya que como eterna estudiante del idioma, un ratito divertido, mientras te tomas un buen trozo de tarta y hablas en un ambiente distentido, merece (y mucho) la pena.
Lo dicho señores y señoras: ha nacido una estrella en Poble Sec. Larga vida!

No sé si fue el olor a buen café o la pequeña alacena/​vitrina que rozaba lo antiguo y lo moderno llena de tartas y pasteles o la amabilidad con la que me trataron, el caso es que me habría quedado allí una tarde de domingo entera. Es el sitio perfecto para conversar con una persona especial pero también para ir sólo y leer un libro o hablar con esa amiga que vive lejos por skype. Me quedo con la tarta de zanahoria que estaba deliciosa y con cualquiera de sus cafés. Además me encantó que organizan actividades para ir a hablar en inglés, cada día sobre un tema y a veces también sobre libros.

Pasteles exquisitos, el Carrot Cake y el pastel de manzana que fueron los que probamos estaban deliciosos! Perfecto para la merienda. Muy simpáticos!

Más que acertados los comentarios de los compis Unilocalers. Yo añadiría que en su totalidad, el spice café es un lugar perfectamente cuidado. Desde la mini terraza, donde «todo cabe», hasta el baño, todo está en su sitio, en perfecto orden y armonía. El café está muy bueno y el pastel que pedimos, un cheesecake, se notaba que era casero, buenísimo! Los cursos de inglés (que además el teacher es el mismo dueño) es un plus añadido. Buena onda el lugar. Corregido! Hay opción para celiacos! Se han ganado un 10 :)

Aunque normalmente lo que más resalto de Unilocal es la comunidad, hay veces en las que tengo que resaltar los sitios que descubro gracias a la aplicación. Y este es uno de ellos… aunque en el fondo, no deja de ser la comunidad de Unilocal y sus gustos los que hacen que un sitio con 5 estrellacas te llame la atención (y en este caso además vi que había un comentario de mi querida Claudia P. y de ella me fío, y mucho).
Después de patear Barcelona de cabo a rabo nada me apetecía más que sentarme en un sitio tranquilo a reponer fuerzas, y si podía ser con cosas ricas, mejor. Así que nada más entrar en este sitio tan acogedor, fresquito, y vacío cuando llegamos, me apreció un oasis.
La cosa no hizo más que mejorar, comenzando por la atención del camarero, muy simpático, con una sonrisa en la cara todo el tiempo y explicando todas las tartas que tenían. Él no paraba de hacer cosas, limpiar, colocar todo bien… se notaba que le gusta lo que hace y el cariño con el que lo hace. Además cuando entraban clientes conocidos era palpable el cariño con el que se trataban mutuamente (ya fueran jóvenes o señoras mayores).
Y siguió mejorando cuando probamos las tartas que habíamos pedido. Madre mía, qué tartas. Tanto la de zanahoria como la red velvet me encantaron. Hubo un momento que estaba llenísima, pero no podía parar de comerlas de lo ricas que estaban… También tomé un café que estaba muy bueno, y además tenían variedades con muy buena pinta.
Por último, en la puerta había carteles de una especie de club de lectura y también conversaciones en inglés que hacían allí, lo que sin duda le da un plus al sitio.
Como le dije al chico cuando nos fuimos, «menos mal que no vivo en Barcelona, sino me tendrías aquí todos los días». Y ese menos mal iba referido a que mis kilos aumentarían considerablemente ;-)
Desde luego, sitio fijo para recomendar y para volver a ir cuando vuelva a pisar la Ciudad Condal.

BEST CAFE. The food is to die for and you have to get the carrot cake if nothing else. They also make the best chai tea latte I’ve EVER had and my friend got a cappuccino and said it was amazing as well! We couldn’t have been happier to find this place. The bagel sandwiches are also delicious, the Italian was my favorite but they are all fantastic! And while the carrot cake is a must (!!), the strawberry cheesecake is also amazing, as are the homemade Oreos! I’ve seriously just never been to a more perfect café with more perfect people. Lee, the owner, is amazing and so full of life and ready to share his love and knowledge of Barcelona and his café and other great places in the neighborhood! And Henry is super great too with the friendliest smile in town! When I come back to Barcelona you will find me here every day because there’s literally no better way to start of your day than with amazing food and great people! And it’s super affordable! Worth more than every penny!

Oh. My. God. This is such a delicious coffee shop. Right when we walked in I was so impressed with the layout and the owner was soo friendly! We ordered a cappucino, a chai, an Oreo cookie, two bagels, and the coffee cake. Which was AMAZING! Anyone that visits barcelona must come here! The only thing wrong with this place is the fact that I can’t live there. Seattle approved!

Salir de un lugar y que la experiencia haya sido 10 en todo es difícil, pero creo que en Spice Café, después de más de 10 visitas puedo decir que se acerca mucho a la perfección.
Lo primero, la calidad de toda la carta. Repostería excelente. Cada tarta que elaboran la catan para dar el visto bueno antes de ofrecerla a los clientes. Yo he presenciado alguna de esas catas y realmente se respira perfeccionismo. Es muy inspirador ver como comentan los matices de la tarta antes de dar el visto bueno. Si alguien conoce mejores tartas en Barcelona que me lo diga¡
El café es muy bueno. Lo traen de
. Especialistas en café en Castelldefels. Es muy bueno en todas sus variedades. Yo siempre pienso en Spice café para tomar un buen café y soy de estos especialitos con el café…muy recomendable.
Es un local pequeño, quizá es la unica pega, echo en falta un poco de anonimato porque sería perfecto para llevarte un libro y pasar horas en un sofá. Pero tiene 3 mesas de dos y una mesa grande de 10 para compartir.
El servicio también es muy amable. Llevados por un chico de aquí (el experto en tartas) y un chico americano. Este ultimo da clases de conversacion en ingles los lunes y jueves en el mismo local de 20:00 a 21:30. 5 euros, café incluido.

Sólo he ido una vez, pero me basta para ponerle las 5 estrellas, porque me enamoré profundamente de esta cafetería de Barcelona :)
El local es pequeño, pero muy mono y muy bien decorado. Tiene un par de mesitas para dos y al fondo unos bancos largos donde te puedes sentar a compartir sitio con más gente. Me gustó mucho también la vitrina donde tienen las tartas, muy bonita.
El chico que nos atendió el día que fuimos era un encanto: amable, nos recomendó tartas y estuvo pendiente de nosotras. Un 10 para el servicio: D
Y las tartas… ains. Probé la de zanahoria y la de red velvet, que creo que son mis dos tartas favoritas del Mundo (mundial), y diría que las de Spice Café están muy arriba en mi top 10, por no decir en lo más alto. La de zanahoria estaba perfecta, tanto de sabor como de textura; y la de red velvet, que en un principio podría ser más empalagosa, estaba tremenda (muy rico el frosting, con trocitos de violeta). Cada porción (son grandes) vale 3,5 €, y se pueden pedir también para llevar.
Ah, y dentro hay poca cobertura pero tienen WiFi ;)
En fin, que sin duda repetiré visita a esta cafetería cuando vuelva a Barcelona, porque me encantó y mucho: D

El Spice Café es una cafetería con mucho encanto, uno de esos lugares que descubres estando de viaje y que estás deseando volver a probar.
Es un local pequeñito pero gracias a su decoración con esas mesa larga de madera y el servicio, hace que lo que podría ser un obstáculo para el lugar, sea un beneficio y se perciba como un lugar con encanto y muy acogedor.
Llama la atención el estilo artesanal y minimalista-​vintage del local, ¡no falta un detalle! Y es algo que ya notas nada más al pasar por la puerta, donde justo en la entrada hay una especie de banquito/​sofá con una pequeña mesa. Además, como curiosidad, hay un papel fuera (en la parte derecha) que te indica quién es el dueño del local, una presentación y comenta también que realizan clases de intercambio. Algo que a mi me dio buen rollo: entras y ya conoces a la persona que te va a servir, hace que sea muy familiar.
La barra está realizada con cajas de madera «recicladas», y las estanterías igual. Una vitrina muy vintage contiene los delicada y rica repostería. Y las mesas… ¡qué decir de las mesas! Hay un par de mesas «normales» para dos personas a la entrada y al fondo una gran mesa de madera que me recordó a las que se ven en los bosques para hacer bbq (solo que más bonita). Es una mesa «comunitaria», en la que, aunque haya gente que no conoces, si hay hueco, te puedes sentar. Una idea que me pareció genial para aprovechar el local (y su tamaño) y además diferente a lo que encuentras en otros lugares.
El resto de decoración está muy cuidada: los tonos de la pared, los cuadros, el marco con las letras y sin fondo…
Pero no todo es el local, ¡hay mucho más! Los camareros (tanto el dueño como el otro chaval que había el día que fuimos) son muy atentos, eso sí, al no ser españoles me costó al principio que entendiera lo que quería pedir (imagino que también por el acento andaluz ;)
Yo pedí un te (que estaba muy rico) y mi hermano un capuccino que además de rico estaba muy bien hecho.
Después pedimos una tarta de zanahoria y canela que estaba… ¡espectacular! (y me quedo corta) muy esponjoso el bizcocho y muy suave la crema. Muy muy rica. Nos decidimos por esa porque nos comentaron que era la especialidad pero fue difícil decidirnos por una solo porque todas tenían muy buena pinta (y los muffins también).
De precio no nos pareció nada caro, creo que todo salio por unos 7 euros. Y además nos dieron una tarjeta con dos sellos por las dos bebidas que habíamos tomado. Al parecer, cuando llegas a un número (que ahora no recuerdo, pero subiré la foto), te dan una bebida gratis.
En definitiva, me encantó y volveré si puedo. #Recomiendo

Yummy carrot cake and pineapple upside down cake!
I really enjoy the ambiance that they set in this simple bakery/​café. It’s small but full of character. According to the owner, the selection of goodies changes on a daily basis. So you’ll never really know what you’ll get. But the carrot cake seems to be a staple. I understand why, it’s incredible!
I’m addicted!

Great, beautiful and warm place to taste awesome cakes, bagels and good coffe. Brooklyn style. I tried the carrots cake with a caffee latte and everything was really good. Besides the bartender is really nice. You gotta go :)

Came back on my last day in Barca and I’m glad I chose here for my final cappuccino! It was wonderful and the presentation was lovely (mmm, cinnamon stick).
I got a slice of carrot cake to go and as I was about to put it in the fridge I abandoned all self-​control and just about inhaled half of the cake. I can say, without a doubt, that this was the Best Carrot Cake I Have Ever Had. Carrot cake is my dad’s favorite cake so I’ve been eating it quite a lot during my nineteen years on this planet. This cake is moist, the icing creamy and not overpoweringly sweet, and the layers make it difficult to fit one bite on your average fork. The carrot bits are neither too chunky nor nonexistent, and the harmony of cake part and icing part is melt-​in-​your-​mouth bliss.
Heaven can be bought, people, and it’s yours for € 3,50 at this fantastic café!!!

El otro día paseando por Poble Sec tropezamos con este acogedor y pequeñito café. El espacio es muy reducido pero está decorado de una manera muy «cuca».
A mi me llamó la atención un cartel pegado en la puerta y en seguida salió el dueño a explicarme. Resulta que él, Lee, también es profe de inglés y organiza los martes y los jueves un club de conversación en inglés por 5euros, que te incluye un te/​café/​agua! Aparte no tenéis que sufrir por vuestro nivel porque según el día es intermediate o pre-​intermediate. Aunque mi cámara va muy mal os cuelgo una foto del calendar por sí os interesa…
Respecto a lo que es la cafetería, aparte tenían pastas y pasteles tipo americano :) y bebidas variadas incluido sodas italianas que lo dejo pendiente de probar!
Pues que deciros, para mi es incomiable que se creen estas iniciativas! So… Are u in? Definitely I am!!!

Es un espacio encantador pero pequeñito, con apenas capacidad para 10 personas, así que probablemente cuando vayáis estará lleno.
Pero se debe intentar ir de nuevo, porque la experiencia merece la pena.
Cafés, tés, repostería con tendencia «yankee» (carrot cake, etc.) y bagels.
Lo diferente de este local es que los pasteles estan elaborados por ellos con un cuidado muy evidente e intentando alcanzar la calidad de la receta original, y las bebidas tienen nombre y apellidos (origen y características) que el propietario explica con precisión y pasión.
La relación calidad-​precio es buena, es decir, no te sacan un ojo por tomar un trozo de pastel casero. Referencia: 2 cafés, 1 té y una porción de pastel= 7 €
Tienen wifi.
PD: Me gustó un detalle: cuando pedimos el té, el propietario especificó el tiempo que necesitaba reposar antes de tomar y nos dio un reloj de arena para esperar el tiempo justo. Very cute. ;)
