The George Payne

Solid overall bar atmosphere aside from the bar tending staff. One member tried swiping 10 euro from my buddy and the other bartender was iacting disrespectful to a client. I’m told the food is overall decent but going during prime drinking hours may not be the move.

I really would like to give this place a 3.5 (drinks very mediocre while atmosphere was great). I came here with a big group of people on a Friday night and it was perfect for all of us. Just enough for us to chat in but also had to fight for a table. Unfortunately, there is no karaōke on Friday night, so that was a little bit of a bummer, but despite that it was still fun. As for the drinks, the blackout tray is good bang-​for-​the-​buck. It took a while for us to get it as there were 9 people who had ordered it ahead of us, but it was worth it (in terms of alcohol percentage-​wise). The drinks themselves were actually quite horrible, but it’s forgivable when in good company.

Good place to have a beer and listen to some live music with friends. The ambiance is amazing, low lights and nice decoration. It’s not the typical Irish pub. I totally recommend it.

Exactly what you’d expect for an Irish pub outside of Ireland. Everyone one that works here is great and they can handle a crowd well. And there will be a crowd at game time. It’s a great place to catch a game.
Their sangria isn’t great but the price is right, then again you didn’t come here for that.
Of course I’m from the states and this is the same bar as I have at home. So while I’ve been here with friends, while touring a new country perhaps this isn’t the most adventurous spot.
Come in have a beer and enjoy the game.

Great pub, the food it’s good, services was fast, happy hour its just amaaaazing! I think its from 2 to 6 you can pick 2 dishes and paid the expensive one, Ribs are good, buffalo wings GOOD as well… The only think I didn’t like the music was too high for me its was difficult to listened my friends which were next to me! but overall GOOD bang for the buck!

Shame on me for going to this bar when TRAVELING ACROSS THE WORLD.
I had to go as it was the only place playing NFL games near us.
Do not go here at night time as the drinks are wildly overpriced in comparison to other places nearby. There are no locals here. If this bar was in Scottsdale, Arizona I might consider going if the beer was cheaper. But this bar is in Barcelona. Avoid.
Plus one star because the staff is pleasant and they actually show American Football. Everything else is shizite.

I felt like I was transported back to turtle bay to a crappy Irish baron 2^nd ave. I came to check it out due to a suggestion from a friend. I will use this review to remind myself to slap him hard in the face. I don’t see why in a great drinking town like Barcelona they need a place like this.
I mean if you want to travel and go to a run of the mill Irish bar then make this 5stars.

Pub irlandais avec une bonne ambiance et qui diffuse les matchs de foot et de superball. On peut aussi y manger des snacks tels que Hamburgers, frites, chicken fingers… Et la verre de sangria est à 2 € et 8,5 € si vous prenez 1L (par contre je né l’ai pas trouvé très bonne…). Les shots sont aussi à bons prix: 10 € pour 5 shots.
En bref, adresse sympa pour aller voir un match, attention en revanche à l’heure où vous venez, je n’ai eu aucun problème pour rentrer et pourtant l’endroit était déjà bien rempli mais quand j’en suis sortie, il y avait des gens qui faisaient la queue pour y rentrer.

Es un Bar Irlandés, como muchos en Barcelona, la bebida es bastante cara pero ya lo pagas por ver un partido de futbol. El local está bien ambientado en Irlanda y en los deportes, tiene pantallas gigantes para ver partidos de futbol inglés, español, futbol americano, entre otros. Siempre suelen poner un cartel fuera donde informan el partido o partidos que puedes ver y a las horas. A veces realizan ofertas de cerveza que es lo más típico de allí, que merece más la pena que pedirte algo por tu cuenta. Siempre está lleno de Ingleses, Irlandeses, Alemanes que van a ver partidos de futbol y más de uno termina pegándose por su equipo! Por lo general está bien para ir con los amigos, tomarte algo y ver el futbol si te gusta, has de hablar muy fuerte para que te escuchen!

Es el pub por excelencia en el cual puedes disfrutar de un ambiente internacional con fuerte tendencia anglosajon. El local es realmente inmenso, tiene dos entradas distintas, una sala principal muy grande con una pantalla enorme en el medio para disfrutar del fútbol y del rugby. En la planta de arriba hay una barra mas, un salón con confortables sillones y un pasillo ancho que rodea la sala principal donde puedes disfrutar casi si girar la cabeza de tu deporte favorito. El encanto del local reside en su decoración íntegramente de madera. Hacen unas tablas de nachos enorme con queso fundido, guacamole, nata… divino! Sus hamburguesas son también muy ricas. Se puede comer/​cenar bien y tomar con sus amigos un «bucket» de cinco cervezas por 10 €.

Otro de tantos bares tipo irlandés, bastante pensado para ingleses y guiris en general. La ventaja — la única para mi gusto — es que es de los grandecitos, además de bien distribuidos para que la parroquia se amontone a gusto. Además de un encanto de camarera, en este caso en particular
¿En contra? Pues, Plaça Urquinaona, el centro-​centro de Barna, los parroquianos, mayormente manadas de ingleses borrachines, etc. Además de ese trato totalmente impersonal de macro-​discoteca
No soy especialmente fan, qué se le va a hacer. ¡Aunque una siempre, siempre, siempre va a tomarse unas birras con una amiga! ¡¡Donde sea; y más si te toca invitar en una fecha especial!
Las cervezas son las de costumbre, en formato media-​pinta, pinta o tercios además de la acostumbrada sidra y todo tipo de alcohol, claro.
Y los picoteos y comidas, también los típicos de estos lares: hamburguesas, nachos fingers, etc. Con algo destacable que no sé por qué no había notado — las Paddy’s Potato Skins. ¡Adoro las pieles de papas, sea en la variante fritas con picante o las medias-​patatas asadas, que es como se hacen las Paddy Irlandesas! Mmmmmmmmm!!! Sólo por eso ya se han ganado la 3ª estrella.
¡La 4ª se la lleva el encanto de camarera que nos atendió! Y que sacó una sonrisa de oreja a oreja cuando pedí las Paddy’s y ya no la perdió.
Le quito la última estrella, que podía haberles dado por esta vez, por el imbécil de Dj. ¡Sip, he dicho imbécil! Un impresentable que por enchufar sus trastos para el concierto que parece que le iba catapultar a llenar el estadio de Wembley, nos tiró la mesa, las cervezas y casi la comida. ¡Y no se dignó ni en intentar articular una disculpa! De siesos está el mundo lleno.
Vamos, que para tasca irlandesa, me quedo con la de mi barrio. Salvo que tenga que quedar, sí o sí, por el centro.

Even though we were in Barcelona, my fiancé obviously had to find a bar that would have the NY Giants game on! Place was great, had awesome deals on buckets of beer and shots and a ton of TV’s with American sports.

Sin duda me encanta este sitio! suelo ir bastante y es que después de haber estado en irlanda tanto tiempo no todos los pubs de Barcelona pueden recordarte a los verdaderos.
La primera vez que entré en éste, todos los recuerdos de mi estancia en irlanda me vinieron a la cabeza. Este sí que es un auténtico pub irlandés, lo tiene todo, la decoración, la comida, la bebida, el ambiente, TODO.
Es un pub bastante grande. Con dos plantas dispone de un gran aforo, pero sin duda el ambiente está en la de abajo, que suele ser la más llena. Mi consejo es que si al llegar no hay mesas en la planta de abajo te hagas un hueco en la barra o te esperes ahí de pie, porque en la de arriba no se disfruta tanto del ambiente.
Lo que más me gusta de este sitio es que nunca sabes lo que te vas a encontrar, a veces hay karaōke, a veces toca una banda en directo, a veces hay un Dj, pero sin duda en cualquiera de los casos no faltan ni irlandeses ni españoles que se dejan caer para disfrutar de un verdadero pub irlandés.
Además, dispone de un lugar para jugar a dardos mientras te refrescas con una cerveza en buena compañía.

Tres estrellas porque francamente no es mi rollo, aunque si tuviera que basarme en el local y su decoración le pondría 4 ó 5 estrellas, ya que me pareció espectacular. Es un rollo pub interés, muy grande y espacioso, con suelo y muebles de madera y paredes de ladrillo. En el lado contrario a la entrada hay una escalera con una majestuosa barandilla que llamaron rápidamente mi atención, aunque no llegué a subir a la planta superior porque estaba petado de gente. Ahí va el motivo principal de mis 3 estrellas, y es que el tipo de ambiente, muy guiri, ruidoso y comercial, no es muy de mi estilo. Justamente fui un jueves noche y tenían karaōke… las canciones eran de lo más comercial, en plan Spice Girls y cosas por el estilo… Había muchísima gente, tanto en la puerta como en el interior del local, y abundaban las chicas borrachillas, algunas de ellas muy chillonas. La verdad que los guiris tenían pinta de estar pasándolo genial, en su salsa. La verdad es que pensé que para según qué situaciones y días es un buen recurso (hay ambiente a partir de la 1h de la noche los jueves y sin ser una discoteca). Por lo que pude ver, a pesar de ser un sitio muy frecuentado por turistas, los precios no son muy abusivos. Me gustaría ir a alguna hora con un ambiente más relajado (quizás a media tarde), porque creo que puede ser un lugar muy agradable. Veré a ver y ya os contaré.

Bar-​pub irlandés típico, donde en Barcelona hay unos cuantos muy similares cerca de Plaça Sant Jaume. Lo positivo que puedes practicar inglés entablando conversación con alguna guiri o cantando en el karaōke. Pero los precios de cervezas y alcohol en general está enfocado para turistas, menos algunas tardes que tienen la mediana Estrella Damm a 1 €.

Recuerdo que de pequeño el local donde se encuentra el George Payne era un sitio prohibido! por qué¿? porque era un cine X! jajaja, volviendo a la actualidad, soy de la opinión que si este tipo de sitios es frecuentado por gente autóctona del lugar, por algo será!
He estado en varios bares irlandeses de Barcelona y para mí este es el mejor, el ambiente es muy agradable, la gente va de muy buen rollo, y si le pones morro al tema disfrutas de lo lindo (excepto a las horas punta que es un poco agobiante), en general como en todos este tipo de bares.
Si vas y tienes la suerte de pillar el día de la oferta de: mediana de Estrella Damm a 1 €, ya tienes la tarde encarrilada ! jajaj, también hay ofertas de cubo de 5 Heineken a 10 euros, pinta de Guiness a 3 (lo normal es 4,5 €), pacar picar tienes: hamburguesas, nachos, pollo, patatas fritas.
Además de la liga española, de fútbol puedes ver partidos de otras ligas, y también te dan partidos de rugby, fútbol americano entre otros.
Mención especial al karaōke que hay el domingo por la noche! muy recomendable, pero la gente se lo toma muy en serio, y no se dan cuenta que con unas cervezas de más se distorsiona de sobremanera la realidad.

donde colgarlas, los camareros pasan y las tiran junto con tu cerveza

We came early on a Thursday. Not many people were there, had a few drinks, then left. Had to come back the same night since it was a friendly, pleasant atmosphere. At that point, the bar was in full effect. It was packed and karaōke was going on. Was able to find a seat. Had a good burger. Then sang some karaōke. Everyone sang ironic songs all night. Was a lot of fun.
Bar patrons were all friendly. Service is quite slow though.
Great little place to get a tiny slice of back home and have a good time.

The only god thing about this place is the Karaōke on Sunday nights. Otherwise, it is overpriced and they will regularly renege on their Happy hour or meal deals whenever it suits them. This is particularly true if there is a large sporting even where they know people will pay no matter what.
Another example of their dishonesty was advertising that they would stay open later than usual to broadcast the entire Superbowl. They were lying, of course, and once they had wrung out every bit of money they could, they close the bar just after halftime and kicked everyone out. In truth, they never had the license to operate for the later hours and simply neglected to tell everyone they would be missing half of the biggest game of the year.

I’m an American living here in Barcelona and I have to say the the ‘Payne’ if you will is a great bar. This is a very large bar with really nice Irish décor, comfy bar stools, great atmosphere, and lots of interesting people from around the world.
Their karaōke night on Sunday is truly something to experience. They also offer American football games, Irish sports, rugby, and more. They have an amazing 2 for 1 lunch special that runs till 5pm that is an amazing deal.
I usually get the burger or the chicken curry. This is also a great place to be single as I have met many pretty girls in this bar too. Hint, hint.

George Payne gets a bit of a bad rap. It’s not a dirty, cheap Irish pub (Ryan’s). It’s not Spanish (Everywhere else). It’s a place where I can watch a match and not worry about working on my Castellano. It’s a place I can get nachos that taste like nachos and chili that has some kick to it.
I’ve seen it packed on game nights, but the crowds tend to be reasonably pleasant and quite varied English speaking ex-​pats. Other times they have pretty good specials (a 2-​for menu before 3PM) and lots of seating. Those who are there in the off hours are chatty. Maybe too chatty. One guy spent the better half of my lunch telling my date how he just broke up with an annoying American who had a Pomeranian.
The only bad part of George Payne is that EVERYONE goes there. Perhaps that’s why my friends normally pish-​posh it. They don’t want to be found.

This was a really big spot for tourists and they really cater to the American crowd. They threw a going away party at the end of the semester for the Americans who were studying abroad in Barcelona. Its an absolutely enormous place, so its difficult not to find someone interesting to talk to. However, the drinks are pretty pricey (I think someone bought a 7 euro beer… although it was big). It has a great location and fine atmosphere but nothing super memorable.

Más o menos, eso es todo. Ni más, ni menos.

Otro de los mejores pubs irlandeses de Barcelona. Puedes ver los principales eventos deportivos, escuchar buena música y perderte buscando los lavabos.
También tienen cocina y un apartado con mesas tipo restaurant, y aunque la carta no es excesivamente variada los precios no son nada escandalosos. Lo que no me gusta tanto son las promociones extrañas que tienen de marcas de cerveza, pues al final te gastas mucho más que si te bebes unas simples pintas.
El ambiente es genial: gente bebiendo, riendo, unos intentando ligar y otros consiguiéndolo, pero todos escuchando buenas canciones y pasándolo bien. Es ese tipo de sitios donde te encuentras a gusto. Aquí solía venir yo cuando salía del curro con mis compañeros, antes de que mi oficina se convirtiera en un condenado nido de soplones, víboras y traidores.

Cuando juega el Barça y los otros bares se llenan, en el George Payne siempre habrá un huequito donde podramos entrar y verlo con una cerveza fría en la mano.
Lugar de culto entre los turistas, también es frecuentado por los locales… es el típico pub irlándes, muy grande, con varias pantallas gigantes y buenas opciones de combos de bebidas y los precios no están mal.
Una única advertencia: mantenerse a una distancia prudencial de 20 metros de este local el día de San Patricio.

Este bar tiene que hacerse el domingo por la noche Futbol americano karakoe. Tienes la impresión de cambiar de país y cruzar el pacifico! Es un poco caro, las camareras solo hablan ingles pero no importa buen ambiente buenas hamburguesas 2×1 bud, Not so bad !

Irish pubs do not excel in originality and this one is no exception: interior, drinks and food are as expected. The staff is not Irish yet friendly (my barman was French), and the crowd mixed and thirty-​ish.
