Venus

As local as a place as you can find in the Gothic Quarter. Meat plate was incredible and the best darn sangria you’ll taste. Very happy we found this gem and would recommend it to any tourist and local!

We’re from the US and met some English friends at a local bar. We decided to come in here and have some food and drinks. The server wouldn’t acknowledge us until we basically grabbed his arm to order and told us to be quiet multiple times even though other tables were louder and it was 11:30 on a Friday.
At the end he told us to never come back. We were about as loud as other tables speaking Italian or Spanish, but because we spoke English he didn’t like us… sad but the sever here ruined our experience

Nice place in the Barri Gotic of Barcellona. We got there by chance walking around in Barcellona downtown area. The atmosphere and the service are very nice. The food is ok (we had the paella). Can be recommended.

That was a bad meal. There is no kitchen so I think everything is cooked by microwave. Did not recognized a moussaka when I tasted it. One of the waiter is not nice.

Me decepcionó bastante… el lugar tenía buena pinta, lleno de gente y bastante abierto en verano apetece terraza en Bcn o restaurantes muy de calle como este.
Pedimos Cuscus de verduras y nachos con queso y guacamole, la verdad que nada del otro mundo. El cuscus bastante soso y los nachos dejaban bastante que desear (muy poco conseguidos): los nachos de bolsa directamente al plato, una salsa de queso (de las imposibles) por encima y guacamole en un tarrito.
El servicio no fue malo pero tampoco tan bueno como para hacerme olvidar la calidad de la comida.

Just stopped in for a snack at around 4 PM. The chocolate cake that my friend and I shared had an adorable presentation but was pretty dry, though it probably had been out all day. The guy behind the counter was nice but the waiter seemed a little distracted and barely paid attention to us though the place wasn’t crowded. Not really worth going out of the way for.

Venus Delicatessen ist eine der unzähligen Bars, Cefés und Restaurants an denen die Touristen beim Bummel durch das Barrio Gotico verbeikommen und sich denken «Klasse — das probiere ich heute abend oder morgen aus»! Und wenn sie dann am abend wiederkommen finden sie es in den dunklen, verwinkelten Gassen der Ciutat Vella nicht mehr wieder, hehe.
Also nicht, dass das Venus besonders versteckt läge — *alles* im Barrio Gotico liegt versteckt und ich kann nur jedem raten auf Entdeckungstour zu gehen.
Das Venus ist leicht alternativ angehaucht und hat einen angenehmen Hauch von «cutre» — die Einrichtung ist nicht neu und cool und die Vitrine mit den Snacks und Pinchos, die man hier mit einer Caña, Clara oder Café Llet runterspülen kann, war vermutlich ein Leftover von irgendeiner Geschäftsauflösung. Macht aber alles einen guten Eindruck. Ein guter Ort für einen Vermut.
Die Musik allerdings ist hier nicht so ganz mein Geschmack — etwas zu punky und zu laut (Die hat mich allerdings nicht so gestört, wie die kastilischen Landeier (glattgegelte Haare, Indoor-​Sonnenbrille, Hemd aufgeknöpft, Goldkettchen) am Nachbartisch, die sich lautstark darüber mokierten, dass die Tapas zu groß wären. Hat sie natürlich nicht daran gehindert, die Platte zu putzen. Mal davon abgesehen, dass es Tapas eh nur in den richtigen Touri-​Fallen und in Süd-​Spanien gibt).
Bedienung blieb aber cool und freundlich — in dieser Lage sind sie das wohl gewöhnt.
FAZIT:
Cooles, alternativ angehauchtes Lokal; kleine, einfache Mahlzeiten und Snacks; guter Kaffee. Gemütlich. Preiswert. Mitten im Barrio Gotico. Hat mir gut gefallen.

The food was okay, we had the typical touristy tapas selection: anchovis in olive oil, bread with tomatopaste, some cheese and a jamon plate. Nothing spectacular but still quite good.
The service was very nice and also quick and we liked the decorations which apparently chage often as you can buy most of the paintings and so on.
All other guests were tourists. If you want some authentic catalan food then look somewhere else, if you need something tasty to eat with a nice location then I’d say it is worthwile to come in.

After walking around early in the morning I happened upon this place. I ordered a breakfast: desayuno with coffee, fresh squeezed oj and traditional bread with tomato and olive oil. Everything was simple and yummy. Cost: 4 €.
The younger waitress was quite friendly and engaged me in a bit of conversation though the barista was a bit more brute at first. But I think she warmed up to me in the end. Great site for people watching as its on a main street in the gothic nabe.

The first two days we were in Barcelona, we came her for tapas and cava. In a city as large as this, I was shocked that they actually remembered us. Perhaps is was my overzealousness over their absolutely perfect chorizo. Spicy, meaty and smokey — just as it should be.
The space is quirky and shabby-​chic and cozy, and I loved it. There are many items on the menu, but my favorites were the chorizo (obvi), the jamon ibirico (obvi), and the forrest salad which was loaded with dressed mushrooms, olives, cheeses and veg. They’ve also got a fabulous selection of wines and cava, and don’t mind if you sit there all day and drink slowly. It’s just the kind of place. The bathroom is a tad scary, as are most in this country (what’s up with that?), and the place can get a bit crowded, so get there early or really, really late.
They’re also open on Sundays, which is a small miracle in this city.

Decent Food, unceremoniously served. We had some tapas, they weren’t bad, but nothing special.

Eclectic menu with small plates to share. We had a tasty Moussaka in addition to other things like bread with tomato (a classic from this region)… It is quite full with Spanish speakers but our waiter still spoke English (glad I took Spanish for 15 years only to have everyone speak to me in English! haha, though it is appreciated).
At any rate, if you are looking for a nice bite in the area, check this place out, though it can be busy in evenings.

Es una pena preguntar si te puedes tomar un café, que te digan que sí y que luego oigas claramente como dicen «esto no es una cafetería» y te hagan sentir non grato. Un cliente es un cliente, se tome un vaso de agua o el plato más caro de la carta.
La comida tiene buena pinta y el local es muy chulo pero no pienso volver.

En la calle Avinyo cuesta destacar algún bar de otro porque la verdad es que el nivel está muy alto. A mi personalmente el Venus me tira bastante básicamente por el rollito barna que tiene. Un punto de bohemia, un punto moderno sin pasarse, un punto de arte, un punto de antiguo y un toque de color. Es una buena opción para quedar con alguien por la mañana o por la tarde en plan para hablar tranquilamente tomándote un café o un vinito. Yo estoy muy a gusto en este local, la verdad. No se pasan con la música alta y eso se agradece dependiendo la hora, claro. Siempre hay gente y por algo será. Arte por las paredes y lámparas a todo color. Al mediodía no cierran y sirven comidas tipo mediterráneo y algún plato vegetariano. Yo no he comido nunca pero lo dicho, cuando el rio suena, agua lleva. Tendré que probar un dia.

No tiene nada especial pero tiene algo. Tiene duende. Tiene don. El Venus ofrece menú de medio día y cosas para picar la mar de buenas y a un precio más que bueno pero yo… Yo voy al Venus cuando me apetece tomarme un trozo de tarta en un espacio agradable, casero y con toques «Tim Burtianos». Voy al Venus cuando me apetece tomarme un café de tarde o una caña con una amigos… Voy al Venus entre sitio y sitio… Voy al Venus cuando simplemente paso por delante y veo alguien a quien conozco. Porque no… No soy la única a la que le gusta el Venus. Es un lugar con muchos admiradores… No sé si por las razones que he dado o porque, quizás, sin saberlo, entramos contagiados por la magia de su nombre: ¡Venus! (Vale… Esto ha quedado un poco cursi pero, admitámoslo… ¡Es así!

Recuerdo un día de lluvia intensa que paré a comer aquí. Ya era tarde pero aceptaron servirnos el menú. Mientras disfrutaba con mi pareja de una rica comida en un ambiente encantador, la camarera aprovechaba para comer con su hija de unos cinco años. Le colocaba bien la servilleta, la ayudaba a cortar la comida, le limpiaba la boca… la escena era tan cotidiana y tan bonita que me quedé embobada mirándolas. Cuando llegamos al postre aquello mejoró de nivel: la tarta de queso casera que nos sirvieron era una delicia. Pagamos y nos fuimos, pero antes de salir eché un último vistazo al local, cada rincón me sugería escenas bonitas, de fantasía, de cuento. Desde entonces sólo vuelvo a este local con gente especial y siempre salgo de allí contenta.

Erholsamer Zwischenstopp im Konsumtempel der Calle Avinyo. Hier gibt es nette Menschen bei bestem Kuchen und selbstgemachten Salaten. Die illustrativen Gemälde an den Wänden tragen viel zum freundlichen Flair bei.

Décrit dans les guides plutôt comme un bar, cette adresse propose des plats de très bonne qualité à des prix très corrects. La déco est vraiment sympa: expo de toiles, petits personnages. Le service est souriant et rapide, de quoi passer un bon moment.
