Dishes are ok but the staffs’ attitude towards us is not satisfying. They are quite friendly to other customers. That’s because we are Asians? 呵呵

Great find! There are several good tapas bars near by that do the toothpick thing. Unfortunately, they wouldn’t let us do that and sit down, so we stopped into Xaloc where they immediately seated us and presented all sorts of great tapas. We tried all the wines, including a perfect Tempranillo. The Iberian ham croquettes were the best and the chicken lollipops came with a great, spicy sauce. The fuet was a generous portion. The service was professional, quick and our server had a pleasant sense of humor. The space was very modern and clean.

After walking all day this was a gem! Walking through the alley to get there we were not sure what to escort but the ambience is upscale and beautiful and it was nice to eat tapas without toothpicks. Wine was extremely inexpensive and the service was professional, quick, and polite. The croquettes were the best we have had in town yet and the bread con tomate was amazing with jamon! Quite a find. Save dessert for the gelateria across the way and the day is perfection!

This is a 4.5 star review. We had two very nice meals here. Nice atmosphere with jamons and vinos displayed openly. Service was cordial, informative and efficient. We had the best jamon croquettas at Xaloc. The ham used in the croquettes was top notch. The outside dough was thin and lightly battered. These croquettes spoiled our taste for other places, they were just that good. The olives were flavorful, as they were for our entire Spain vacation. We also liked the ox tail croquettes, the jamon, the gazpacho, the crème caramel. Our 2 least favorite dishes were the patatas bravas and the octopus. The octopus was too chewy, overcooked. We loved coming here and highly recommend it to all.

A classier tapas restaurant with an authentic Spanish menu. I love the tapas places that charges per toothpick, but after a while my girlfriend and I were hankering for something a little more formal. Taking a recommendation from our friend Rick Steves, we came to Xaloc. A little off the beaten path but still immensely popular, it features a wide open space, English menus, and pleasant wait staff(that seem able to speak several languages). With the assistance of the waiter, we ordered several tapas — Olives(2 euros), Ox tail Croquette(1.50 euros per croquette), Iberian Ham Croquette(1.50 euros per croquette), Bravas(4 euros), and the delicious toasted bread topped with a light sauce and oil. Each dish was better than the last. I highly recommend getting the olives at the top of the meal and eating them throughout, as they are not only delicious but an excellent palate cleanser(especially if you get a glass of wine, which you definitely should). The croquettes are a must-order, especially the ox tail, which was so juicy and delicious. This doesn’t take anything away from the Iberian ham, which was oh so tender. I’m not sure what they put on the Bravas, but it was delicious and complemented the potatoes, which were lighter and less salty than I anticipated… just perfect. Rick Steves knows his restaurants, and I have to agree with him that this place is a step above other restaurants in the crowded Gothic area. It’s definitely worth a visit.

Es una muy buena opción! Está bien ubicado, cerca de La Rambla, pero en medio de esas callecitas hermosas que desembocan en ella. Fue justamente así como lo encontramos, por casualidad, recorriéndolas de noche y buscando opciones para cenar. Nos encantó! El lugar es lindo, buena ambientación, bien española. La atención y la comida(tanto los platos principales como los postres) son espectaculares! Una de las mejores opciones de la zona desde mi punto de vista.

Queríamos comer en otros lugares del Barri Gotic que nos habían recomendado pero cuando llegamos a la puerta no nos gustaron. De casualidad encontramos este lugar y qué suerte tuvimos! Muy bien logrado, lleno de detalles tradicionales como los jamones colgando sobre las barras que contrasta con la decoración moderna. La comida es rica y de la mejor calidad con un menú pequeño pero con todo lo que se te puede antojar. La atención correcta y amable. Nos tocó sentarnos en el subsuelo y fuimos atendidos por una uruguaya que nos recomendó muy buenos postres. Nada que criticar, la cena estuvo por encima de mis expectativas.

Great for taps, in a hidden location but worth finding this place. Our server Philipe was great very attentive and his English was great. Very nice wine selection and great prices. I loved the spicy red tomato sauce and the garlic sauce that was served with several dishes. My favorite tapas were the chicken lollipops, cooked perfectly, crispy and farm fresh tasting. The also have the Jamon cut small and very tasty, I would say a unique Jamon, you would have to try it here.

Great tapas and they have a gluten and allergen list for each dish. I had the steak, they left off a sauce because I’m gluten free, and it was great. I also shared some tapas dishes with my girlfriend, which were also very tasty. I would definitely recommend eating here.

This place felt more like a real restaurant and less like a Tapas bar than many of the places we ate in Barcelona. The décor was very cool. We really liked the food and the wine. The Boombas was delicious. One knocked was the place was full of fellow tourists. We heard more English than Catalan or Spanish.

Fantastic experience. We were just walking around and saw the wine wall and ham so dropped in. We spent a lot more time there than I would have ever thought because the snacks and wine were so good and the service was so helpful and friendly.

This place was a great find. Great small plate style tapas just off the busy Rambles area. The service was good and the food was even better. The prices we very reasonable for the amount of food you get. Highly recommend. Would go back for sure.

We happened upon this place while browsing pretty deeply into the Barri Gotic district, looking for authentic Spanish cuisine to dine with the locals. We were told this district is the oldest so we figured it was where the Barcelonians go to eat. I thought we hit the jackpot with Xaloc. The tapas and sangria were excellent and the neighborhood, many blocks removed from Las Ramblas, gives it an extra star. I thought it was odd all the staff spoke impeccable English– no need to break out the broken Spanish– and then I realized all the other patrons were speaking in languages other than Spanish so it’s obviously very touristy. The only reason I generally frown upon that is because the food often suffers when targeting non-locals, but I have nothing to complain about. It was a great find. Better than a lot of the All Spaniards restaurants we would eventually go to. You’ve got to try the pimientos padron!

I was a bit upset that when I did track this place down they only had cold tapas available !! :(Sad face big time! It was 6pm on a sunday and the kitchen was closed so since I was already there I decided to have a cold tapas of cold meats and cheeses and some nice olives. I can’t really give this place a full rating as I didn’t get to experience the dishes which was mentioned in peoples positive reviews from Unilocal and trip advisor. The cold tapas where good but you can’t really ruin cold meat and cheeses, can you?

Tapas gibt es sicher auch im Xaloc, aber meine Aufmerksamkeit erregte die Tafel mit dem Mittagsangebot: Lachs mit grünem Spargel und Zitronen Jus. Nix wie rein(Draussenplätze Fehlanzeige, aber Ambiente findet ja ohnehin eher drinnen statt). Tapas können einem nach längerem Spanienaufenthalt nämlich ziemlich aus den Ohren rauskommen. Die Einrichtung im Xalox ist Barcelona-Style: ultra hipp, eine Wand voller Weinflaschen, die andere voller Schinken. Die Möbel warm braun, quadratisch, praktisch, gut. Die Bedienung empfand ich als freundlich und flink und ja: mein Lachs mit Sushicharakter war ziemlich lecker. Nicht sooo spektakulär, aber nicht so teuer wie andere Restaurants in dieser Gegend, weil in nicht exponierter Lage, und eine wohltuende Alternative zu den allerorts feilgebotenen Tapas. Würde ich glatt wieder hingehen.

Gorgeous modern space located off a winding stone pedestrian street in the Gothic section. The contrast of the old exterior & modern interior is done on such a way that it really works. Servers were very attentive and offered a menu in English. Good selection of wines & tapas. We started with olives & Iberian ham, which are often brought out as you wait for your orders. Our favorite of the evening were the Bombas — fried spicy potatoes & meat balls sitting on a sauce I could probably eat on a lot of things. Totally yummy! Other favorites were the citrus steamed mussels and tempura fried veggies. The codfish fritters and eggs broken over fried julienned potatoes and Iberian ham were both interesting but not items I’d likely order again. A really fun restaurant with great service and nice atmosphere to hang out, eat & drink.

Had a plate of Bravas [fried potatoes with aioli and ‘spicy’ romesco sauce — so-so, much better with garlic oil poured in from the prawns dish], thinly sliced Iberian chorizo [delicious], fried(and salted) pardon green peppers [pimientos del Padron — satisfyingly simple], and prawns fried with garlic [Gambas al ajillo — beautifully sweet and garlicky prawns]. All of it was very traditional and very tasty and we had our first pitcher of sangria [which, in Barcelona, was always sweet with an added effervescence(like soda) — and which I discovered that I do not care for]. I can’t say this was great food but it was close enough for me to enjoy completely. 3.5 rounded up.

Really really tasty. We wandered in here, starving, and were happy to discover that the food is excellent! My friend and I shared a bomba de la barcelo which is like a better version of a fried Hush Puppy ball, and I devoured my salmon plancha(lime sauce). The sauce was comparable to a cream cheese and it went together wonderfully. I also sampled my friend’s esparragos jamon(asparagus and dried ham), and it was also delicious. A great find and the bill was under € 30 with wine!

Das Ambiente ist nett, die Portionen der Tapas teilweise deutlich zu klein angesichts der Preise. Ein Gericht wurde vergessen vom lustlosen Kellner. Wir sind jedes Jahr mindestens 1x in Barcelona, das Xaloc wird uns nicht mehr sehen.

Genial! Dans le bari gothic de barcelone, à 2 pas des ramblas, un resto-charcuterie! Franchement très bon, il peu y avoir la queue, mais au vue de la qualité des tapas, de la charcuterie et des spécialités locales, ça vaut le coup! Les prix sont plutôt corrects, car les produits sont vraiment bons. Puis, il est possible d’acheter sa charcuterie sous vide ou à la coupe, au comptoir, mais seulement si le chef est d’humeur! Si il y a trop de monde au resto, il né voudra pas s’occuper de vous, car au prix de la pata negra, il est d’usage que le client veuille gouter ça peut se comprendre aussi.

Excellente charcuterie et fromage En rentrant dans ce resto, nous avions beaucoup d’appriori car il n’y avait que des touristes et le lieu n’était pas très attrayant mais il était 23h et il n’y avait plus grand chose d’ouvert. Quelle surprise !! nous avons pris 2 assiettes de charcuterie et fromage(manchego et lomo) et des légumes grillés EXCELLENTS. le meilleur pain à la tomate que nous ayons mangé de tout notre séjour. Adresse à garder pour notre prochain séjour à Barcelone. Le prix était correct, 3 plats, 1 bière, de l’eau, pain à la tomate, 1 dessert et 1 café 30 €.
