One of the things I love about Abilene is its rich sense of history. It’s an old Texas establishment and the present-day city very much reflects that. Many old buildings still stand, original architecture throughout town. It’s not as modernized as other parts of the country that have been around for over a century. There’s probably nowhere that embodies this idea I’m getting at better than downtown, the areas surrounding, and along Treadaway. Farolito fits into this scenario well, if you’re into it, and I think that accounts for half its charm. It’s like walking into the past. The place looks like it was built in 1930’s and hasn’t been updated much since then. I don’t think I would want them to. That old building is great. The food is just okay to me, however. I’ve been here quite a bit because it’s not far from my wife’s job and I can take her for a quick lunch. She loves to get a steak here. I can’t really tell you if its good or not because she orders it well done. She loves it, though, so that’s all that matters to me. Beef Enchiladas and tacos are pretty decent. I don’t mind them, but they aren’t the best around. I like the chips and salsa the best. The salsa is decently hot, which is always a plus for me, and the chips do their job just fine. Pretty dang good unsweetened tea last time I was there, too! If you’re on a mission for good Mexican food in Abilene, this place should definitely be in your list of places to try out and consider.

I drove to Abilene from Austin to get a tattoo at a local shop, and my artist highly recommended this place. Well, I have to say, he was right! If you are looking for some fancy place, just turn around and look elsewhere. But if you are looking for a real down to earth kinda place, then you have found it. The enchiladas were spectacular and the the meat in the taco was not so greasy that it made the shell soggy. The chips were just the right amount of crispy and the salsa was delicious(not too spicy)! I will likely visit every time I come to town, and I will certainly recommend to anyone passing through. Just remember, it’s the hole in the wall kind of place, so don’t expect fancy. Just a good place to relax and eat some tasty food.

I only give this place two stars because the food was hot and the tacos weren’t the worst I’ve ever had. Other than that, I don’t have much good to say about it. The salsa served with the chips was terrible. The tacos were small with blackened shredded beef(I didn’t order blackened), and the rice was dry as a bone. It’s a hole in the wall that’s not a good hole in the wall. I won’t be going back.

Open since the 1930’s, Farolito’s is one of many Mexican restaurants in Abilene. This place is anything but fancy, and I love it. The food is good and well priced. Hot sauce is on the spicy side but they will make mild for you. Daily specials and Tuesday night from 5 to 8 is all you can eat for $ 7.99. A great deal we go to quite often. Give them a try.

It honestly is the best Mexican food in town only thing I could ask for is a little more selection but it shouldn’t take away from the 5 stars if you can bring someone who has never been, you won’t regret it!!! Mexican plate was great

I like the food here. Good old plain Mexican food at good prices. Don’t let the slightly shabby looks of the place put you off. Today the lunch service was very good, but I’ve also been there when it was indifferent. But if you like to support locally owned businesses like I do, you’ll want to give this place a try, and put it on your repeat list. I mean to try dinner here sometime also and see how/if it differs.

This place definitely has potential. It is a quaint, «hole in the wall» spot, and the inside is very cool. But the service isn’t the greatest(should refill chips and salsa and drinks) and the food wasn’t outstanding. My husband and I keep going back because I want to see it improve.

Great food, about as close to genuine as you can get in Abilene. Slow service, though. Will definitely be coming back. Try the chile rellenos!

I went with my mom during lunch time. We had a seize the deal discount and forgot to inform the waitress so ended up paying for the dinner portions but only received lunch portions. The first red flag should have been the smell. It was muggy and had inadequate air conditioning. The waitress was very unexcited about her job and full of tattoos and had red hair. The rice was good but the beans and enchiladas were pretty bland. The chips and salsa were ok. The silverware was dirty. The inside was dusty. After being in abilene for as long as it has I expected better.

Good food, great chips n salsa. Service was so-so, and their selection of drinks kinda sucked. They just have beer, wine and cheap frozen margarita’s.
