We dine here mostly for breakfast after church a few times a year with our family of 6. Servers are mostly friendly and attentive and food served in a timely manner. Taste is average, nothing stands out as it is a typical Greek family owned restaurant. Tried dinner for the first time and had the pot roast and southwest chicken salad. Generous portions and included dessert. We tried the carrott cake and it was fairly good. Bread basket is complimentary but mostly get bread on the stale side. Will visit again in the future for the hospitality, timeliness, affordability, but food can use more flavor and selection for those with dietary needs. There are no gluten free or fit options.

The folks at Sunmist took care of 15 of us one morning. We walked in and took care of us seamlessly. It is a diner with a counter — I love that. A newspaper, breakfast for one and a breakfast counter — I am in. Professional service, and good food. This is one of my regular Addison stops.

Our waitress was great but the food is overpriced and overcooked. We will not return. Couldn’t eat most of the food.

Horrible experience, and even worse customer service from the manager! The server, Blanca, got our order wrong, and one guest needed to wait almost twenty minutes to get her meal, at which time everyone else had finished eating. On top of that, nothing was comped, nothing was offered as compensation for the error, and when we spoke to the manager before we left, he essentially told us to get over it. Words can’t express our disappointment on this special occasion, and unfortunately, they’ve lost great customers because of this. If Sunmist ends up on your list, Go. Somewhere. Else!

This place is really one star, as the food was awful! I have come here twice for breakfast in the past couple of months. After being disappointed on my first visit, I decided to still give it another chance about a month later. It’s close to my office and opens early for breakfast. The second star is for the efforts from my waitress, who seems to have worked there for the past century. On both visits she tried to serve me with a smile, which isn’t an easy job with an empty restaurant and is way out dated. The real problem here is the food. I believe I got sick off my last visit, as I believe the oil that they fried the hash browns in was bad. Yes, they fried the hash browns in the deep fryer; they were crazy greasy and tasted like spoiled oil that hadn’t been changed in forever. I had the eggs benedict, which were really bad. The eggs were poached hard, the Canadian bacon was cheap ham, and the sauce was a really bad dry mix! I don’t even want to think what their kitchen looks like, as the restaurant was very dirty and run down. Sorry, but if you eat here, do it at your own risk!

Went here for lunch directly at noon and was greeted and seated immediately. Our server was amazing. She made sure we had everything we needed and we never had to ask for anything during our meal. The food was delicious! Between the tortilla soup which I sampled and ordered more for later at home, to the gyro omlette(with perfectly cooked eggs) everything that was ordered was more than well received. My whole group agreed that we have been missing out by not coming here more often! We will be back! We will bring others! Ambiance: Casual Diner Food: Cannot wait to try more! Value: Cant be beat!

They need to improve the quality of the food and atmosphere yes it is a family restaurant so putting video poker games is a little tacky the food is good but a little too salty parking is great but they need to update the atmosphere and servers I don’t want to hear their problems

My husband are I are frequent visitors to Sunmist since moving nearby 3 years ago. It’s ‘standard diner’ food for a good price. I’ve been here at all times of the day and night and never had a markedly bad experience. We always leave satisfied and content and never had issues with service or management even when I brought my mom who’s highly allergic to onions or made some strange requests. This is our favorite local low-key meal spot. Meals of note: Grilled Atlantic Salmon Dinner, Baked Potato Platter, Crepes Suzette, Lite n Easy, and always the Cream of Chicken and Rice Soup. They also have video gambling if the desire strikes.

Everything is a ok… except for racist servers! Have fun trying to get service. My wife dropped a drink while being served, I asked for napkins… they never came, but the hostility did. Never got checked on except to bring the check. Everyone else that wasn’t a «minority» was being checked on, refilled, and treated like normal human beings. For it being 2016 and this restaurant being in Addison, establishments and their staff should not be treating people like we’re in the 1950’s South. But I mean, hey, the place is great, the food is great, and if you feel like being treated subpar because of your skin color, then this is the joint for you!

My boyfriend and I frequent this place and have ways had positive experiences. The waitresses are super friendly and quick, the restaurant is always clean, and the food is fantastic! The menu is huge, so you may need to take a few moments to decide what to order. I recommend the Monte Carlo sandwich and the cream of chicken and rice soup! Excellent place to go for either breakfast, lunch, or dinner!

This was our 3rd visit but only our 1st time before 5pm. The first two time we have great service and very attentive staff and service. SADLY this Sunday afternoon we sat and waited patiently for 18 minutes as we watched our server(older Christian woman give a judge mental jeering stare as we sat down.). Now we look more like truckers in our boots and flannel then anything else. As we waited the table next to us was chatting inspanish and also giving judge mental stares and only picked up pieces of conversation…“like those two… disgusting” at that very second two more guest ROUGHER looking then us came in, Man and a Women and the waitress without hesitation shoots right over too them and asks if they would like coffee or something to drink as she warmly welcomed them. Then she was handed bread from the busser and served it to them as she glared over at us and walked back to the kitchen. We got our coats and headed to the door and she smiled since we were leaving! The owner at the register asked what’s wrong gentleman? I’m sure he recognized us as the past two weekends we drove 20 minutes for the food and service and we chatted about doing so. He said no no, sit down I will get her! We said no thank you she has HATE in her eyes and thinks SHE has the right to judge and chose who she serves or not.(now we were both servers, she was the only one in this station, she saw us and watched us and watched us swap rings because I put on his scratched beat up one so THAT would of been the confirmation she needed to act all high and mighty! Again religious persecution for the sake of HATE and then further spreading hate by engaging her table of other guests! She KNEW exactly What she was doing!) NEVERGOINGTOGIVEANOTHER dollar to the place. There are DOZENS Of other places much closer and cheaper ! The night crew staff — older lady and younger girl sorry I am bad with names but very good at what they did but all it takes is one bad attitude to upset the apple cart.

Just look in awe. This chorizo eggs benedict was the best I have ever eaten. From the poached egg to the perfect hollandaise sauce to my perfectly cooked bacon(look at my pics) I recommend this place to any one. The service was also impeccable as I was seated right away and had my food within minutes.

Nope. Never again. As I am typing this we are sitting here after waiting an hour for the food. I ate it. But god was it terrible. And it was expensive for how terrible it was. For starters we got the taco platter and the mexican boats. They took forever to get and god the chips were stale. Then i got the french onion soup. It didnt come with cheese, thats ok. I didnt ask, but then i asked them to bring me out a piece. The soup was hot enough to melt it for sure. I waited for a good while before deciding to eat the soup before it got enitrely ice cold. I finished the soup. THEN, the same lady that was serving us and cleared my soup away. Gave me the cheese for my soup. I was like«what am I supposed to do with the cheese?» She just took it away after offering me even more soup. I already had a soup, i dont want another. We waited an extra 50 minutes to get the rest of our subpar meal. Then the cashier lady gave a lesson on how to separate checks at the counter, berating us on our poor diner manner. She was visibly upset by his massive task of splitting the check two ways with two cards. A huge task surely only highly qualified people can perform after years of training. After the tirade she had the gall to say«next time you come. Split the check at the table» nope. Never again. Side note: Mexican Boats were okay.

Went to this restaurant mid-afternoon when it wasn’t very busy. I walked in and stood at the front-entrance register. A waitress finally asked if I was there for a pick-up order. When I said I wanted to eat in, she mumbled something and took off with menu in hand. I followed. She gave me the menu, a bread basket, and disappeared for at least 10 minutes. WHAT!!! No one else was around, so I just nibbled on a muffin and bided my time. When she came back, she asked if I finally decided on what I wanted to order. WHAT!!! I ordered a chicken caesar salad. It was tremendous! It was huge with tender chicken and unusual but yet tasty dressing. For the most part, the waitress was unattentive and incredibly slow, but the meal was very good.

Personally, I think Sunmist is the bomb. The hospitality is the best out of any breakfast/brunch/dinner/greek restaurant I’ve been to. The service is phenomenal. There’s no beating it. As for the food, large portions, delicious entrees, and always perfectly cooked. I’ve had multiple items from their menu because I’ve been eating at Sunmist for about 10 years. Their pancakes are great, omelettes huge and delicious(I love their veggie omelette) and their coffee is good too. I’ve had multiple salads, their gyros, a southwest chicken wrap(when I wasn’t vegetarian) and their salmon. All so good. Honestly, if you want an enjoyable meal, please indulge at Sunmist. They’re wonderful people. The only reason why I give them four stars instead of five is their slimming of the menu. They’ve taken some awesome fish options off the menu. Kinda stinks because their fish was so delicious. :(Otherwise, grade A food.

This has been another one of my favorites by far for breakfast foods any time of the day. I really don’t understand how people can actually go to IHOP and be satisfied at the commercial crap until they go to SUNMIST. This place has had the same people working there for quite some time so that shows you it’s not only a good place to eat but also a good place to work.

I have been avoiding reviewing Sunmist because I SO want to give them a higher rating. And each time I dine there it’s the same thing, breakfast or lunch, without fail — the service is SLOOOOOOOOOooooooow. Painfully slow. If you are retired or it’s your day off & have time to spare, this is the place for you! The food is consistently good. I’ve tried many sandwiches, entrees & several breakfast items & have enjoyed them all. The staff & the owner are all very nice, too. But they truly do cater more toward the retiree crowd so don’t go here in a hurry. This is the closest diner to where I work(2 min away) & every time my coworkers & I have gone there for lunch we always go over our 1 hour lunch break time. We’ve even tried mentioning to our server we are on our lunch hour & in a rush with no such luck. Even for an early breakfast when there are hardly any customers in the place doesn’t speed things up. They really should consider getting large coffee mugs because the tiny teacups they use mean you will be sitting there with an empty cup for awhile before anyone comes around to fill it up again. My experience there this morning finally pushed me to just go ahead & write a review. I was ready for work in record time today so I decided to treat myself & go out for a sit down breakfast. I ordered an eggs benedict. After 10 minutes passed the waitress came over & said, «They can’t do the eggs benedict because they don’t have any English muffins. They can do it on toast or a biscuit if you’d like.» UGH! So apparently the cook made the benedict & then realized no English muffins? I overheard them talking later & apparently the bread delivery hadn’t arrived at it’s normal early time yet. So I ordered an omelet instead & that came out lickety split from the kitchen. Great. Still plenty of time to get to work on time. The waitress had already dropped off the check and then everyone, the busboy, the owner & the one waitress disappeared in the back. I needed a to go box so I waited. Waited with my woefully empty coffee cup(for the second time). Finally after 5 minutes had passed with everyone still in the back I got up and went to the back & asked for a to go box. The owner happily obliged & said, «Oh, you aren’t going to stay & relax with us this morning?» LOL I said no, I had to get to work. Don’t you think after hearing that you would perhaps hang out somewhere in the vicinity as this customer is obviously preparing to leave & needs to pay their check? Nope. He wandered off in the back again and came back after I’d stood at the counter another 5 minutes. So, if you aren’t in a hurry — this place does have good food & the people are truly nice. They just have no sense of urgency.

Honestly, I really didn’t want eat here, but am really glad that J insisted we stop. The food was very good and very filling. And the price can’t be beat. I ordered Grampa’s omelet that was stuffed with cheese, bacon and asparagus. It wasn’t fresh asparagus, but still tasted good. It came with a hearty amount of hashbrowns and pancakes. J ordered the biscuits and gravy skillet with eggs. He said the biscuits tasted so good and fresh, that someone from Southern Il was probably making them. Our server was very sweet and just the right amount of attentive. The host who was most likely the owner, sweet and as cute as can be. While in the bathroom one of the other servers complimented my outfit. Just a delightful group of people working here. Décor is a tad throwback to the 70’s, but still cute. Dining counter is nice. A lot of food for a very reasonable price. Big fan of the food and service. May have to venture back tomorrow.
