Went last night for my birthday and always feel like royalty. My favorite restaurant!!! Everything from the music to the atmosphere to the wonderful food. The head chef is the best! He went above and beyond to make everything perfect, which it was.

I can say SOOOOOOOOOOO many amazing and enticing comments about The Old Place, but then you’ll come to this little diamond hidden away in the mountains, so I digress.

Sunday brunch was great in this cozy place with farm implements on the wall and vintage photos of cowboy actors. The owner greeted us at the door along with two happy dogs and found us a little table open. Our server was friendly and as I was obviously enjoying my pancakes with cooked fruit on the side she nodded in agreement explaining she often eats there on her days off. Mr. A got the mushroom frittata with goat cheese in a mini cast iron skillet. Glad we stopped here!

This place is so cool — I plan on returning here as soon as I can. If you’re a control freak you may have a difficult time here — don’t come here with your LA attitude. The food was fresh and substantial. The mimosas were monstrous. The blue corn pancakes are the best I’ve ever had. The atmosphere was this genuine rustic awesomeness that can’t be faked. Cool wine bar right next door.

Make sure you have a hitch in your getty-up and leave your horse tied up outside! Bring your appetite with you too! I felt as if I had returned to the old west! We enjoyed the cheese & charcuterie board to start and it was amazing! The meat and cheeses complimented each other. The guy that was sitting next us had ordered steak dinner! And it was no small potatoes! We will be back!

A++++ all the way!!! Old Place is definitely in my top two favorite restaurants that I have been to this year. It is unique with excellent food, service and décor. It is a small restaurant and making a reservation several weeks in advance is a good idea. I loved the décor. The building is well over 100 years old and is authentic country western at its finest. I loved the mismatched dishes and crystal lighting fixtures. Most weekends they have a live 3 piece bluegrass band but they were taking the night off when we dined at Old Place. The service was excellent. All staff makes you feel welcome and is happy to help and answer any questions. The food was served promptly but we never felt rushed. There is a charming wine tasting room next door to Old Place and the staff will come into the wine tasting room to let you know when your table is ready! Loved that! The food is as good as it gets. Everything is incredibly fresh and made in house(even the sour cream!). We ordered the quail appetizer. It was flavorful and decadent. The complimentary sourdough bread is to die for. Crunch crust and soft chewy center. Yum! I ordered a steak with the potato. The steak was perfectly cooked and had a nice smoky flavor. It was super lean and melt in your mouth delicious! The baked potatoes are giant and come with all the fixings. My husband got the beef stew. It was perfectly seasoned and oh so tasty. We finished off the meal with the apple dessert. I hate crust but the crust on this baby enhanced the flavor of the dessert. That is just how good it all was. Don’t even get me started on the homemade Carmel sauce. I am so thrilled we got to experience this restaurant and am eagerly looking forward to the next time I will get to eat at Old Place.

Been livin’ out here for 20 year and the wife and I never knew ’bout this place. Finally decided to give it a try. «It’s a biker joint!» she screamed as we pulled into the dirt parking lot. Full of rustic charm(and the occasional biker), the food is great: she love her fritattas and I dug my steak ‘n eggs. Showed up at 9 a.m. Saturday and got seated at the bar. Booths available for parties of four or more, reservations required. Surroundings good for photo ops — we felt like tourists in Mammoth or Yosemite, but we were in Agoura Hills the whole time! Who knew? After breakfast(served only on the weekends) you can cross the street to the Peter Strauss Ranch and walk it off. Prices very reasonable. Worth a stop or two. . or three or four. .. or more. ..

Great food, fun atmosphere. Seating was a bit challenging, especially with a child. Sticky buns are delicious. You won’t leave hungry! Homemade hot sauce is a must have.

30 minute wait at 11:00 am, but great food and good beer. Had the Chicken Sandwich with a side of Noodle Bake. Reasonable prices for gourmet food. Worth the trip. Try to come at off hours.

Country western ranch at the heart of Malibu canyon… who would’ve thought. I’ve been here for weekend breakfast/brunch a few times. The place is always packed. Me and my friends have not been able to sit at tables but bars. The restaurant is fully decorated with western style souvenirs and vintage items. There’s usually an older musician with exceptional voice and guitar skills playing in the corner, adding to the ambiance. I just love the touch and feel of oak wood tables and chairs, mini iron skillets that hold the frittatas, and the rustic doors and farming tools here and there. My favorite things: Cinnamon bun– this is to die for. The cheese topping is mesmerizing. Bacon– comes with many brunch dishes. It’s nothing like the bacons you’ve tasted elsewhere. Thick, crunchy, real. I mean real bacons. You’ll have to try it. Mimosa– a generous cup of Champagne and orange juice. Just the ticket to get the weekend started. After brunch, you’ll want to take a few step behind and around the restaurant and explore. The gift shop next door is a little wine tasting haven. And the path behind the restaurants often lead you to singing peacocks. Yes, peacocks. See photo I posted. There’s no better place that the Old Place if you yearn to get away from the city traffic yet not spending too long traveling to escape the congested part of LA. You do have to love driving the canyon road in order to get here. That part may not be for everyone.

Well, shit howdy. What was so hard about that? Nice people serving food that’s well above average. They are walking a fine line… not trying TOO hard… but caring about what they serve and how they serve it. Not trying to come up with foodie food… but trying some interesting things. Clearly if you do the simple things right… it’s great. The bacon. Best bacon ever. When you want a piece, you pick it up with a fork. You want to divide a piece you cut it with a knife and fork. It’s like bacon mixed with a pork chop. Fun rustic place to trip around while waiting for a table.

The restaurant is cute and small. The people that works here are very chill and hippie like. Next door to it looks like an old church that turned into a wine tasting room… lol This place gets pretty busy during the weekends. Although, they do take reservations and walk-ins are welcome. When you get there, there is a hanging clipboard by the entrance door where you write your name and the size of your party. There is a lady that comes in and out of the restaurant that checks the list. Like I said the place is small so the wait can be 10 – 30 minutes long depending on how busy they are. I was told that this place used to be an old post office. As you walk in, you’ll see the bar right away with an infinity bench to sit on along with an array of collections here and there(i.e a Whale’s vertebrae, remnants of the old post office, etc). Everyone sits next to each other on the bench so if you don’t mind sharing personal space then you won’t wait for a while. They do accept reservations and they do have seating booths available. Couple times we’ve gone here, we end up sitting at the bar which isn’t that bad. But the place has a lot of history. The menu is straight to the point — one page on a clipboard. Food is really good. Their portions are good for two people. Service is good. Everyone is friendly. Will definitely come back for more.

I’ll admit — my husband had to drag me out of the house to make our reservation. I was tired, 9 months pregnant, and not interested in leaving the couch — so the fact I am now giving the Old Place a 5 star review is serious. Let me start by saying you MUST have reservations, and for a party of 4 or more. They only have 5 tables, and seem to require parties of 4 or more at them — which I get because with so few tables, if they were full of parties of 2, they’d be only operating at 50% capacity. They do 3 seatings a night, 5pm, 6:30, and 8pm. If you go at 5, there’s no chance of them running out of anything, but you have to be out of there by 6:30. At 6:30 you run a risk of them being out of certain things(like they didn’t have the iced tea I wanted), but you have a little longer to eat. So obviously by 8 you have the greatest chance of them being out of items, but you get to stay as long as you’d like. This is a meat & potatoes place but man, is it good. The portions are massive and the butter & sour cream are made in-house. For about $ 25 – 30 a head you can get a huge dinner with top-notch service and ambiance out the wazoo. And let me tell you, ambiance is what makes this place. It’s like you got dropped off in an authentic old Western movie that just happens to have killer steaks. This place is so special. Make a reservation and come experience it for yourself!

We didn’t know about the Old Place for many years. How’d we miss such a gem for so long? The rustic ambience is the real deal. This is a historic building reminding us of the tales of the Old West told in the hills. You can smell the woodsmoke oozing from its pores. They keep the menu on the small side so they can serve quickly and with high confidence in the outcome of each dish. We’ve only been for dinner. One time we got a reservation ahead of time for one of the tables. The other times we’ve taken our chances for bar seating. Great spot to bring out of town guests, or friends who also have never stumbled back in time to this Old Place.

Definitely 4 stars. A must visit when in town. A true museum of a restaurant. I came here with a large group and we ate in the mail room. Literallly, the mail room. The mail room was the town’s old post office, which was connected to the towns general store, which is now the old place restaurant. Tom runyon, of runyon canyon, created this gem of a place. Hypes: — The bread is the highlight — incredibly dense and rich… like old school rye bread — HUGE steak — I had the bone in filet. It was too big to physically finish. — Even BIGGER loaded baked potato — Desserts — all the sweets are solid. The pies and the chocolate chip cookies are baked into the pan — interesting concept Gripes: — not cheap — steak was a little dry, but still pretty good — the noodle bake while good, was nowhere near out of this world

You cannot beat this location for it’s aura. Located in the Agoura Hills area up in the Maliu mountains, this rustic little restaurant(and i do mean little, no way it seats more than 50 people) will make you feel like you’ve been transported back in time to the wild, wild west. The location and setting alone is worth the visit, and if you’re in the mood for steaks, you cannot go wrong! The biggest thing you need to know is that you’re gonna have to wait to be seated. An hour plus isn’t unheard of since the place is soo small. They do take reservations for groups of 4 and larger but even then you’ll probably still have to wait since they only have roughly 5 booths that will accommodate these«larger» reservations. Groups of 3 and smaller can ONLY dine as walk-ins. So brace yourself mentally for this, but on the bright side, you can easily pass the time right next door at Cornell Winery having a few drinks.(4 wine tasting is only $ 10!). So I’d really suggest that if you’re planning on eating at Old Place, include a visit to Cornell winery as part of your visit and I promise you the wait to be seated won’t seem as unbearable. They offer multiple entrees on the menu, but in my opinion, opt for the steak! Only slight negative is that we were a bit disappointed with the egg noodle & cheese which is their version of mac&cheese. Was a little bland, but hopefully that was just an abnormality. Overall, I still fully endorse a visit here.

I finally was in the area on Mulholland on a night when they were open. This place is by far the locals of the area favorite and for good reasons. I had the chicken pot pie. It was amazing! I really wanted a beer but I was on my MC so I had to pass. People here are friendly and I had a great time!

In the thirty years we’ve been going here this place has stayed true to its quirky roots. Constructed of random bits and pieces, and little bigger than a shoe box, the ambiance is what it’s all about. You still have to sit at the bar unless you’re a large party, and you still have to go outside to visit the restroom. But the food and wine list have been upgraded significantly. You can still get the clams as an appetizer and the steak as an entrée. Those were the only two dishes originally. But now there are more appetizers, and the baked potato has grown from from the size of a golf ball to a softball. There’s also a wonderful chicken entrée. The wine list has also grown, from two jugs to a couple dozen nicely chosen bottles, most available by the glass. Service is friendly but constrained but the strict three-seating schedule if you have a reservation. Our server had been there as long as we have been going, and it was fun to reminisce about old times.

Love, love, love The Old Place! Although things have changed drastically since Tom and Barbara cooked up steak and clams for the locals, and then served«leftovers» as beef stew for the surfers on Sundays. Now, under new management(still a family business, from my understanding), the menu has grown and everything that comes out of the kitchen looks delicious! I cannot stray from the Old Place sirloin though… it’s my go-to every time! With live musicians playing table to table and friendly ambiance all around, a night out at The Old Place sure is relaxing and enjoyable! My favorite server, Edwin is prompt, smiley: D, friendly and makes you feel like family!
