The Mellow Mushroom in Aiken is a good example of what happens when a chain is really good at the beginning with several locations and then tries to expand too big. The service was okay for lunch but the food was terrible. They blamed it on that they had large parties and I said well then don’t have large parties anymore. I ordered the lunch combo which was two slices with two ingredients each and they took a half-baked pepperoni pie and then put raw onions on top of it without even cooking them. All in all a bad experience and I will never visit this restaurant again.

For a chain restaurant, this was a great addition to The Alley in Aiken. It’s perfect for large groups, which is a shortcoming of most other restaurants around it. And they always have something going on, from live music to trivia nights. Their drinks are cheap and the food is stellar. And nothing beats the outdoor patio that sits right along The Alley.

This is one of the best pizzas. I love the veggie pizza! They are one of the only places in the area with a real garden salad(with lettuce that is green, not white!) at almost half the cost. Such a funky and friendly atmosphere. This location has a great wait staff. Yuuuuuum!

Showed up at Mellow Mushroom in the middle of a fundraiser for a local children’s charity. The place was packed. Wasn’t expecting to get great service but we were quickly helped and our server was on her game. We ordered the meaty pizza and cheesy bread. I also added a beer or two. The cheesy bread and the pizza were both delicious. Much better than anticipated. I can’t remember the exact name of the beer, but it was an Ale with«Atalanta» in the name. Is was really good. Due to the number of people at the restaurant we never made it inside, instead taking a seat on the patio area. From what I could see the restaurant is very nice. It was a nice evening, and I really enjoyed the patio. Overall I was really impressed by the restaurant and staff. I will return.

The restaurant has a very pub and college feel to it. I wasn’t very impressed by the restaurant, I think if your a college kid or a young adult looking to have a good time the restaurant would be a great location. First, the facility has televisions everywhere, so if you looking to watch a game, this is the place for you. The food was average at best, I’ve eaten at much better pizza establishments here in Aiken. I had the house calzone, which wasn’t anything to rave about. The inside was barely stuffed and the center was cold with lackluster flavors. The bruschetta appetizer was dull at best. You can tell that the cooks have never been to or studied the Italian food culture.

I normally love mellow mushroom and have never had a bad experience until we visited the Aiken location. When we arrived it was pretty busy as it was the backside of lunch hour on a Sunday but it seemed like people were mostly finishing up and leaving. We were seated right away but it took the waitress 10min to come over to take drink orders. We told her our whole order before she left to help expedite things a bit. Large Holy Shiitake. She put in the order… Exactly one hour later I pulled her aside and asked what the hell is taking so long??? She said they are understaffed in the kitchen and it is very busy. I looked behind the line and there were the normal number of people(very interesting looking) people very slowly working there. The restaurant was mostly empty at that point so there was no excuse. 15min later out came the pizza. The toppings were thrown on very unevenly. Actually half the pizza was almost topping less and the other half very heavily covered. Fortunelty it still tasted good but when we got the bill they didn’t even give us the curtesy of a free drink for having to wait 1hr 15min for one pizza! It’s not about the money, it’s the principle. Anyways… If you are going to this mellow mushroom make sure you pack a snack… You will be waiting a while

This Mellow Mushroom is great! The atmosphere is very cool & the service is above most local restaurants around. Everything that I have tried from here has been wonderful. I tend to always order the cheese calzone though. I am a lover of way too much cheese and bread! My sons cheese pizza slice for $ 2.50 was big and delicious too. I love their salads & the house dressing as well. I will definitely be back!

Fun experience at yet another improvement to downtown Aiken. Good food, nice visuals, and everyone enjoyed themselves. This is a do again.

Delicious as always. Props to the waitress who put up with my needy family. I didn’t catch her name but she was excellent.

AMAZING food and service, the only reason I’m giving 4 stars is because of the extremely long wait on food. Every time I eat at this location it takes at least an hour to get my food, busy or not. But other than that, it is great!

Best Mellow Mushroom I’ve ever eaten at! My wife and I split hummus, a lil Caesar salad, and a small Mellowterranean pizza. We also both had Pumpking Ale that blew our minds. It was incredible! — Timing and spacing of each course was perfect. — Portions were large enough for 2 of us to easily split and have some left over(well, we kept eating — it was too good to stop!) — Over 30 beers on tap! With something like 5 or 6 continually rotating taps. — Great location and rad décor. Cannot recommend this place highly enough! Ashley was our server and smashed it. Ultra friendly and talkative(but didn’t hover). She had great beer knowledge as well and was happy to answer all of our questions. Even though we’re closer to the downtown Augusta location — we’ll be making the drive to Aiken more often just to come back here.

I use to eat mellow mushroom pizza religiously in high school, while I was growing up in Greenville. So, you can imagine my excitement when I heard one was coming to Aiken. Now that I finally had the chance to come here and eat, I am pleased. My family and I received great service on the patio from our server, Ashley, and the food was good. My husband wasn’t all too impressed with his calzone because they skimped him on the jalapeños, but overall, it was a nice dining experience. I had the steak and cheese hoagie, in the picture below. it was good!

Having moved to the CSRA from the Atlanta ‘burbs, I’ve eaten many a calzone and slice of pizza from Mellow Mushroom in the past 14 years. The Aiken location is really clean and trendy inside, although the service was a little slow when we stopped in. Took a while to get our drinks, and a while longer to get our calzones. Not a problem really, but the calzones were overcooked a little and my jerk chicken had a very strong Worcestershire sauce flavor to it, and very little spice. I think we’ll just stick to the Augusta location from now on.

Service was good but the food and beer was not up to Mellow Mushroom standards on this visit.

Product excellent. New restaurant I feel isnt that cosey, its more a pub style venue for drinking rather than eating. Would I go back yes but maybe to downtown Augusta as that is still the best one I have eaten in.

Coolest Mellow Mushroom. Nice place. Pretzels and beer cheese, highly recommend. And the cookie sundae was heavenly. The pizza wasn’t as good as I have had at other Mellow mushrooms, but it was still good.

My review is based solely on the pizza, and not the friendly service or inviting environment(especially the outside eating area). The specialty pizzas on the menu sounded delicious and creative, so I was excited to try them. Unfortunately, the pizzas sound better than they taste. I’d give it 2.5 stars if I could. The holy shitake pizza had few pieces of mushrooms on it and lots of crust. It was overly greasy and rich, yet somehow lacking in flavor. We sampled a regular cheese pizza for balance and perspective, because I believe a good pizza joint needs to be able to execute the basics. The sauce was good, but the cheese was waxy and there was way too much crust. It seemed like a third of the pie was dense, doughy crust. The mushroom pie also had way too much crust. I found the pies expensive relative to the quality, and light on toppings. Overall, I was not impressed and probably will not return for their pizza. Maybe other menu items are better, but it’s supposed to be a pizza place, right?

The service is definitely better at the bar. Had a great time socializing with the staff and other patrons as well as listening to the live entertainment. My Moscow Mule needed some more authenticity for the $ 8 price tag, but it was ok. I just wanted something light to eat so the bartender suggested the stuffed portobellos. A great decision! They were stuffed with spinach and cheese with a balsamic drizzle on a bed of mixed greens. I threw a dash of crushed red peppers on top and they were perfect. If I would have had any bread, the remnants on the plate would have disappeared. This is a hot new spot so I’m sure I’ll be back. I’ll definitely request the bar area.

This new Mellow Mushroom looks beautiful! They have outdoor seating(with heat), a bar, and a dining area. Perfect location in downtown Aiken as well. For the first time going to this new location, I had a pretty good experience. When my family and I walked in, we were greeted by a large host of waiters and waitresses at the front. Since this place is less than a few days old, they’re still doing a lot of training and hence the large number of staff. We were first seated outside which made us a bit hesitant because it was so cold. However, when we got out there and sat down at a table in the middle, we realized that it was actually quite warm under the heaters. The waitress quickly took our drink order and told us that all the food was on the house for the day which made us very happy. It took awhile for our drinks to come out and we found out that the soda machine was broken, but we were able to get Coke from the bar instead which worked just as well. For the number of people who were at the restaurant, the food came out relatively quickly and it was still warm. I had the Italian hoagie and some hummus which were both pretty standard tasting for Mellow Mushroom. Not my favorite, but not bad either. Overall, the service was decent for opening week, the food was warm and free, and the manager even came over to see how we were doing. The new location is wonderful compared to some of the older ones and I think this place will be great to revisit in the summer time.
