Stopped in for lunch. I ordered breakfast and my girlfriend ordered a burger and soup. everything was spot on and served hot. Drinks were always full and waitress was efficient and friendly. Wondering if bacon is deepfried. was plentiful for sure but seemed to have a slight deep fry taste. Girlfriend said the soup was very very good… good job.

If you’re hungry for some greasy spoon diner food, Fred’s is the place to go. Breakfast is served all day and comes with heaping portions of whatever you desire. I’m a big fan of the chicken fried steak with sausage gravy and eggs. I’ve also enjoyed the chicken parm sandwich, two huge pieces of chicken smothered with sauce and cheese. So gooey and good!

Nothing fancy but really good home style food. Lots of regulars that appreciate supporting a local business.

Fred’s is my kind of place. It’s small, homey food, great prices, simple fare. Their motto is «Eat, Pay, Get Out» and they make that easy to do. It gets busy and packed most days, so you might have to wait(or maybe don’t go there so that I don’t have to wait when I do ;-) We mostly have gone for breakfast, but lunch food is great too. Or, get it to go. I haven’t gotten anything that I didn’t like, but don’t go there on a diet!

Fred’s is the perfect place to wear the outfit you had on the night before and a pair of sunglasses, and eat deliciously greasy diner food that will make you feel like a total champion again. There’s always a line at the door, but as their tshirts say, customers know to eat, pay, and get out. I’ve never waited more than 10 – 15 minutes for a table. The place is shabby and run down, but in the best way possible. It’s kind of like eating in someone’s grandma’s house that is in desperate need of an update. Their waffles are off the chain, and make sure to order a side of bacon, which covers an entire plate on its own.

Only bad thing I have to say about Fred’s is how small it is. Great greasy spoon, pretty good prices, fantastic food. Had to take one star off for size and cleanliness.

The food is homemade and is delicious ~ the only drawback and the reason I don’t attempt to go here often is the seating… it is always crowded and sometimes if you want to wait for a table you end up standing very close to people who are trying to eat… feels weird. Their hours are quite limited… but the food is good.

My boss decided to take us to lunch to Fred’s Diner! I checked out reviews before we went and was pleased to see so many positive comments, other than some diner complaining the server dropped her straw«rudely» on the table, lol. Well, I definitely wasn’t disappointed! I had the country fried steak which was excellent! Smothered in sausage gravy, and nice and crisp when you bite into it… soooo goood! The home fries were really good too, even though I was too full to finish all of it! Very generous portions and the price for the amount of food you get is outstanding! Next time I’ll try the dumpling soup which I heard was really good! It’ll definitely be a go-to place for great comfort food for me! For others that come to Fred’s, the diner is pretty small, maybe 50 people I’d guesstimate, so be prepared to wait if they’re busy! It’ll be worth the wait! =) That’s why their slogan on their shirts say«Eat. Pay. Get Out!», because there’s a whole lot of people wanting to partake in breakfasty goodness! Great place, highly recommended!

Fred’s diner it’s a little divey but that’s why I like it. They have the best breakfast in town. I love their home fries and whatever you do order a side of bacon. If you’re not a bacon eater just take pictures of it and post it on Facebook and watch the comments roll in.

If you like quaint, wallpapered walls and feeling like your eating at grandmas house then this is for you. We arrived and there were 4 groups ahead of us and we only waited 5 minutes. Tables turn quick so, don’t let a busy parking lot or line fool you. I had French toast which was good but not anything too special. My husband had a dinner plate sized waffle that was crispy yet chewy and very good.

don’t let the unwelcoming face of the building scare you away. behind the concrete walls and barred windows, is speedy service accompanied with the perfect homestyle breakfast. your coffee never comes close to empty. and your food comes out before you get a chance to admire the grandma themed floral wall paper. our breakfast for two consisted of biscuits and gravy($ 6), 3 over easy eggs(.85 ea), one big pancake($ 1.50), a side of bacon(7ish strips; $ 3.19), and breakfast #2($ 7.29). long story short, we ordered a feast and spent less than $ 25. which is unheard of in good ol’ Chicago. biscuits and gravy were rich, thick, meaty, and peppery. coffee was flowing. and the pile of bacon was much appreciated. though way far out of my food radius, I will always have soft spot for this place. in my belly.

M– Here is Akron Ohio at its best. The decorator and clientele is not the attraction. It’s the days of to much food and a common crowd. I think it still reaches out and touches the rubbershop days. Bacon by the pound is highlighted star of this spot. If you want trendy go some place else. The sign says eat, pay, and leave so true. My father liked this place and I now understand why. D — I would agree with M in that it is a cut above most other places we have been to. Still not what I am looking for. It’s better than average.

So good! The corned beef and hash was amazing. The biscuits and gravy was the best I’ve ever had. It’s the perfect basic breakfast place. Nice servers too.

This is a solid diner feel place that makes homemade quality breakfast. Yes the guy in the back(probably the owner) is gruff(that is being nice). He continually scowled at all of us but I’d probably say that is his normal expression rather than anything you should read into. This is a converted house but done well. It was completely packed when we got there around 11am on a Saturday. But two counter spaces opened up in about 10 minutes. I had the biscuits and gravy and my wife had the chicken fried steak. Both were exceptional especially because of the sausage gravy. It was creamy with chunks of real sausage and a great peppery flavor. The biscuits were great on their own and the chicken fried steak was outstanding. I grew up in Akron and spent a good deal of time on the Northside but would’ve never found this place if it weren’t for my fellow Unilocalers. Thanks!

Had to visit Fred’s Diner after reading the reviews to get my own opinion. The neighborhood place is old and small with flowered wallpaper. But it’s clean and super friendly from the servers, busboy and customers. Wanted to sit at the counter or in the front room which was the original and not the back crowded room which had an open table. So we waited. After 10 minutes we were seated. The menu had a nice variety, and the full size breakfast plates were very good. Our coffee cups were refilled three times! Service was with a smile from everyone. A delight!

Food was decent but they were clearly understaffed and the ambiance is basically a worker stop by like place. Don’t expect it to be like a classy family diner.

What can you say about a local icon? The food was tasty, the serving sizes generous, the prices reasonable. I LOVE the wallpaper; I hope they never change it. Check out the constantly ringing phone — it’s still a rotary, they haven’t even upgraded to a push button. This joint is stuck in time and that’s part of the charm. «Eat. Pay. Get out.» LMAO!

Two words Number nine!!! Seriously though this is probably the best place to get breakfast in the Akron area. Great food! Fast service! Very reasonable price. Diner style service with a since of humor and just the right amount of sass. If you show up during peak hours expect to have to wait a little bit for a table. It usually doesn’t take to long, their motto is «eat, pay, get out» lol! You will not regret going there. The specials are always fantastic too.

Fred’s is exactly what I was hoping it would be. A traditional diner with good breakfast food. I just recently moved to Akron from Europe and had been looking for the traditional American breakfast experience. It was very busy and from what I understood it’s always very busy. You might have to wait to be seated. There’s a light up sign at the entrance that tells you if you should wait to be seated or seat yourself. Because it was just me on a Friday at 11am, I got a seat at the counter right away. Breakfast was good, exactly what I was expecting. The staff was very busy so it is a little hard to get their attention, but they were all very friendly. I haven’t been to a lot of places like this and it just made me feel like I was somewhere else, which I enjoyed very much. Will go back again whenever possible.
