Cute and nostalgic little old candy store with bins of assorted salt water taffies and one of my favorite childhood candy — Atkinson’s peanut butter bar. Sodas were in glass bottles and on the sound system: The Tokens, The Lion Sleeps Tonight, then it was Why must I be a Teenager in Love? No prices are displayed in and/or near the bins. As a kid growing up, these candies were going about a penny each. Sodas were 10 cents a bottle. Those were the simpler times of the 50’s and 60’s. I bought about a dozen of salt water taffies and ½ dozen of the peanut butter bar. The price is by weight. Yep, I put that bag of candy on the scale and it was a «whopping» $ 2.80…okay, I’m cheap and I walked out of there muttering«gum gwai» under my breath. Price of candy: 2 stars Three stars only for the nostalgic set up, the jukebox music and friendly man with his kid helping out.

Little Old… is a long narrow shop. an older guy who may be tony soprano’s junior is at the front keeping an eye out. actually, he’s talking on the celll phone. music: «grease» goods sold: gourmet soda(cold & warm), salt water taffy candies(9.95/lb), and hard to find candies drink: stewart’s lime soda(2.5) –real sugar, real taste –pricey, same as drinking in restaurant notes: –no prices displayed. on anything –no seating, just grab and go. –rent isn’t cheap on park st.

Okay so, I would love to go in here and shop. I live right nearby, and I am a candy aficionado. So why won’t I go in here? Well, there is only one man who works here, and he is, sorry to say it, but he is CREEPY. He needs to hire someone younger to front his business. Once he does, I would be glad to check this place out. Until then, the creepy vibes are going to continue to keep me out.

Why bother? Might have been a cool place to shop. Not worth it for me. Maybe it is for you. If so, great.

Just happened to notice this shop today and strolled right in to check it out. For the taffy fan, there’s a million different flavors offered, including interesting flavors like maple bacon or chili, or the more traditional flavors like banana or strawberry. Going farther back you’ll find a section dedicated to different sodas, all in glass bottles, also in unique flavors and old-time brands. There’s a small offering of other candies as well, along with Drake’s baked goods. As a Seinfeld fan, I had to try a Drake’s coffee cake, and it was as delicious as Elaine, Jerry, and Newman claimed it to be. Prices seem to be reasonable here, and the store, while tiny, extends far back and is very charming with it’s pink décor and old-fashioned vibe. Definitely check it out — I’ll be back too!
