New Sushi King is the only sushi restaurant on this side of the island, and we stopped by because of that reason. I ordered the spicy scallop roll, prawn lover roll, and the fiancé ordered shrimp tempura udon. Before even trying the rolls, I knew they wouldn’t be good based on the presentation. The rolls smelled extremely fishy, and was definitely not fresh. All the rolls were drenched in sauce to mask the fishy smell(didn’t work btw), as I couldn’t taste the fish. Also, since when did spicy scallop roll come with imitation crab? At first, I thought I was given a CA roll, but after I dug into the roll, I found ONE dried up scallop inside each roll. Needless to say, I was disappointed with my meal, and vowed to make my way across the island to better spots along Park Street or Webster.

I ordered the bansai, bay scallop, and Golden nugget roll. Literally all three rolls were DRENCHED with sauce. I literally couldn’t even taste the sushi, it was drenched with so much mayonnaise and siracha that it was disgusting. It’s cheap for sushi but it didn’t taste fresh. I would suggest going to Park Street for some sushi or even drive to south shore for Sushi House.

Terrible sushi. Order to go and got there after the time they said would be ready and I still had to wait forever. Fish quality was scary wen the sushi tasted really bad. Don’t waste your time.

I try places multiple times in hopes of better experiences each time. This place does not get better. Food is ok but service needs to improve. It’s the full experience you get that helps you enjoy your food. If you go here by yourself or with a friend, eat at the sushi bar! The sushi chef is friendly!

Very slow service! They lost our order and then only brought half of our order so we had to ask again for our order. The server went in the back and started yelling at someone in something other than English. The sushi was good.

I had such a bad experience at this place today when calling for take out. I wanted to buy my daughter a plain sushi roll which consist only of seaweed, rice, and sesame seeds. However, when I picked it up, what I received was some poorly rolled seaweed and rice. In addition, to giving me an attitude when I mentioned to the male worker who forgot to add sesame, the portion was insanely minuscule. See the picture attached. 6 pieces and they charged me $ 5. Overall, bad service and quality for a place I use to enjoy.

Okay, definitely not the best sushi, but certainly one of the most earnest group of people. This is a go-to place if you don’t want to wait for a table and get a quality meal. I recommend ogi dashi tofu and most of the rolls — like I said, it’s not that original or even the BEST, but no wait — fast service, quality for the most part and reasonably priced.

We were looking to meet up with some friends, and wanted to have sushi, have available parking. We thought NSK fit the bill. Service is very good and friendly. But if I could give it 1.5 stars, that would be more appropriate. Maybe some of the reviews were based on their cooked food, but their raw sushi was not fresh and was served in chunks, not nice slices of fish that melt in your mouth. I had chirashi sushi, my husband had sashimi lunch, our friends had cooked food. I guess they knew better. I was a bit queasy after eating here, and my husband experienced intestinal distress. I don’t know if I can put the blame on the food, but it really wasn’t fresh enough to serve raw. I definitely would not return to this restaurant.

Always love coming here. The sushi is fresh, and the management have become friends. If you’re looking for somewhere quiet, and not have to feel rushed(sushi house) go here! Love this place.

Let me begin by saying that I have eaten here over the past few years and I like the owner, Mark. He is very friendly and most accommodating. I always have the same dishes: teriyaki beef dinner, short rib appetizer and tempura. The food is basic, the service friendly and the place is always very clean. As an Alameda native, I support local businesses and besides good food, I also enjoy familiarity. I get both here.

Came here for mid-week lunch with my favorite person. He likes it a lot, and ordered the nigiri combo. It did look pleasing with a nice variety of fish. The combo also came with soup and salad. I order two specialty rolls, the Tiger Eye and 49ers. I love the 49 roll and look for places that offer it. I was very happy to see it here. Sadly it didn’t have all the lemons it needed so boo-hoo. I need lemon with every piece or that is some other roll. The Tiger Eye was a risk, a risk I will not take again. Cooked roll. Cream cheese. Smoked salmon. I’m not sure why they cook smoked salmon. The service was fast, pleasing, and we didn’t have to wait. I might go back.

What is wrong with these psudo-Japanese restaurants? Why would anyone make Japanese food if they don’t know what they were doing? Seriously, as a Japanese native I’m completely offended on their butcher job. This restaurant is pretty close to my house. I vaguely recalled it wasn’t my favorite, but I haven’t been back for years, so I stopped with my husband. I walked up to the counter and asked the sushi chef what is good today. He started giving the name of the fish in the display glass case one by one. Gee… that doesn’t tell me anything, as I already know what they are. He told me one of the fish was white tuna, which it clearly wasn’t. When I asked him what he meant by white tuna, he said it was Walu. That means it’s Escolar, and that’s not white tuna. It sucks when sushi chef knows less about fish that me. Anyhow, I ordered hamachi, walu, kappa-maki and spicy scallop thinking how could they go wrong with spicy scallop. My husband ordered curry katsu(not katsu curry, mind you). The food came out. I have NEVER seen any fish being butchered this way for sushi, really. The portion is fairly generous, but there is NOTHOUGHT in cutting the fish. I think you can see in my photo the grain of the fish and how ugly the cuts are. The rice is a bit too soft for sushi rice. I bet they just add the vinegar and seasoning to regular cooked rice, making it too watery/sticky. Sushi rice needs more considerations than that. The cucumber roll was the most decent thing there. Spicy scallop was the worst ever, more imitation crab than the scallop, and the little tiny scallop was hard and gross, I could not eat it. My husband’s curry katsu came, and the curry was some kind of curry straight out of a box with diced carrots cooked in it. Katsu was thin and tough. We didn’t finish that either, as it just wasn’t good. Now that I am writing a review, I can remember NEVER to come to this restaurant again. The people who run the restaurant seem to be nice, but really, this is crap food, and they should really not call it Japanese food, as they have no clue what they are doing with their food.

Sushi is one of those foods that should be fresh. I was very disappointed with the quality of the avocado roll. It looked like it had some type of sauce on the roll but in fact it was brown-black avocado. Perhaps it was because I ordered to go and they thought it didn’t matter since no one would notice until we were home. If the sushi chef is willing to put old avocado in their maki, are they also willing to put old raw tuna in there other sushi? Not cool.

I was pleasantly surprised with that New Sushi King delivered in my area. It’s hard to find places that go to my house so I was excited. Let me start of by saying the sashimi is not something I will order the next time, despite the closeness of the restaurant. My salmon had a scale in it and already ruined my palette for it. The miso soup was great through, the broth was very smooth and had a good brisk to it. I will definitely be exploring the menu more, just not the sashimi for delivery.

I’ve recently started coming here again because it was one of my favorites for years and their tempura is the best I’ve ever had. In my previous review I did complain about one of the waitresses and her rudeness, but the previous times I’ve went she’s been nice so I’ll assume she just had a bad day. The owner is really nice, he always recognizes us! Anyways, to the food. TRYTHEBAKEDMUSSELS! you will not regret it, I never really liked mussels until I had theirs! spicy mayo sauce is always a winner. Tempura is extremely delicious. it’s nice and crispy, never greasy! I also loved the sashimi! previous review I didn’t like it but this time the portions were thick and tasted so fresh. I also had the stir fried seafood udon, I can’t remember what it was called, I think it was nabe but it’s had nice, big pieces of fish and shrimp! the sauce was sweet and the bonito flakes on top might freak you out but they’re so good.

Delivery is terrible. FREE delivery with a $ 30 minimum. 45 minutes. REALITY: $ 2 delivery AND75 minutes. FOOD? Not great. You get what you pay for. Yes HUGE kama, but it’s dry and what’s up with the watered down teri sauce for dipping? Orange and lime wedges were nice. Fish was overcooked. Gummy, underseasoned rice for the rolls. Salmon skin rolls NEED veggies to cut the richness, there were none, by the way, it was mentioned ON the menu there are veg. Did not enjoy the rolls doused in teri. Alaska roll, not fresh and again, rice, terrible. Will NEVER order from here again.

Average sushi fare. Nothing to rave about. Their sashimi places are nice and thick but quality wise, it’s nothing impressive. It’s a nice place to grab some to-go food but if you have time, relax, kick your shoes off and go somewhere else.

As they say, I was in the hood… Been walking by here for years and have always wondered if these guys were good. Well, pretty good as it turns out. I popped in about 12:30 on a Wednesday afternoon. I had the place to myself. I figured it was«after» lunch rush! Seated and watered right away. Ordered the lunch bento with Teri Salmon and veggie tempura. Comes with the typical miso soup and salad. Nothing too remarkable there, but not bad. The salmon tasted fresh and not farmed, and the tempura was good(a bit sweet and not a bad thing). For dessert I had hamachi sashimi. W O W! Nice thick slices served with much ginger. The sashimi was the same price as the bento box and WELLWORTHIT! I am going to return for the sushi/sashimi next time. Ohhhh that hamachi!
