Had: Combination bento of sashimi and tempura, spicy scallop roll and pork ramen. Food was good. Really enjoyed it and personally prefer the bento and sashimi here more than sushi house. And the spicy scallop too. Service was great. Will be coming again.

This is my go to spot for lunch. Sushi is always fresh and the service is great. My usual is the salmon sashimi bento box which comes with rice, salad, miso soup, california roll, and sashimi. Pretty good deal for under $ 10. Food and service is consistently good.

Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay overpriced for the quality. This is textbook supermarket-style sushi. Don’t bother.

Came here yesterday for dinner because we were craving sushi and this is one of the few places that we haven’t tried in Alameda yet. When we walked it, it took a little while for someone to greet us and seat us. We were hungry, but not that hungry. We ended up ordering the party platter #1. It came with 48 pieces of sushi. All of them tasted good and fresh. We got pretty full from just the platter and left with some leftovers for later. The only small issue I had with this place was that we tried to ask for a to go box and the check. We tried to grab the attention of two different waiters, but they just kept walking pass us(it wasn’t even busy). We finally asked one lady for a box and check, but she ended up standing at the register and never getting back to us. Finally we got another lady who kindly took our platter and packed it for us, then gave us the check. Overall, the food was good, the service just needs a little work.

I’ll admit this is the first Japanese type restaurant where they didn’t have any specials… usually(like Bluefin), the sushi bar will have a board with the daily specials, such as akimono, oysters, uni, amaebi etc. Here, there was none. Overall the food was not bad and on par with what you would expect. Their dessert was lackluster. I think their green tea ice cream was a bit stale as they may have scrapped the side of the ice cream bucket with freezer burn, or not sure why it was so chewy like mochi skin.

I came here to celebrate my Mom’s birthday. The food may seem a little pricey when you look at the menu but the serving sizes are pretty big. We tried several rolls, I really enjoyed the West Coast Roll and the portobello mushroom roll(I can’t remember the name). I also tried some of the teriyaki chicken which was super tender and delicious. Not overcooked like other sushi houses. Their menu has many unique rolls so if your interested in trying new sushi roll combinations you should check this place out.

Domo Arigato! That means many thanks in Japanese. What an awesome place my good friends chose to spend their son’s 18th bday. We had the upper section reserved and the owner took care of us with great hospitality and delicious food. Drop by and get some!

Pretty good rolls nowadays. A while back, their rolls weren’t as good. But they’ve made good improvements since. I like to order out as soon as they open for dinner, that way I don’t have to wait too long and they don’t have to rush to make my food. Prices are reasonable. Will recommend the sumo roll; it’s quite tasty and when I got it, the fish tasted fresh.

Great classic sushi. The owner is super nice. I tell him my favorites and he always suggests something superb! Good meal, and something different every time.

Glad I found this spot! It’s located off park street. On weekends or nights you can probably park in the lot on the side of the little plaza it’s apart of. Came on a Sunday night around dinner time and there was no wait at all, my party of 3 got seated right away. Inside is very spacious, servers are attentive and the rolls are super fresh and delicious! All rolls are pretty fairly priced and you get amazing quality for what you’re paying for. Another big plus is that they use REALCRAB instead of imitation crab that most sushi restaurants use. Be aware that if you arrive with a big appetite, 3 – 4 rolls will suffice. Some of their pieces of their specialty rolls can be kind of small. If I’m ever in the Alameda, I’d definitely pick this place over Sushi House!

First time at this restaurant and I was pleasantly surprised. I am a huge sushi fan and this place did not disappoint. My gf and I ordered a bunch of nigiri – sake, saba, ikura, escolar, kampachi. so delicious! the fish was fresh and the rice(which I think makes the difference) was flavored great with the right amount of vinegar and seasoning. the sake had that hint of sweetness that makes sake so yummy. The slightly seared nigiri we had was so juicy. We also had the Giants roll(shrimp tempura and white tuna) – very good and balanced with the right amount of each ingredient. The roll was a good size – not too big and overwhelming. We finished off with the baconwrapped scallops, which was again very delicious and well-balanced. The bacon was crispy and not too salty. The scallops were perfectly cooked. The service was great. Our server was nice and gave us the right amount of attention. We were charged for the Nigiri Sake twice, but she took the second one off immediately. And it’s understandable given we ordered a second round, but then later was told they ran out. The nigiri sake was served in this super cool carafe thingy with a hollow resevoir that they filled with ice to keep the sake chilled without diluting it. Pretty neat! We will definitely be back!

Another disappointment in Alameda. Their fish was of okay quality, but it’s unusually small(fish and rice). Same goes for the bento box. It was a tiny piece of fish with a smaller than ice cream scoop of rice. The pricing is average. Their tuna was the biggest disappointment. I feel like I was eating a firm tofu. Actually tofu would have more flavor than that. We ordered the 30 piece chef’s choice sashimi and they shouldn’t have put it on the table if they knew the quality was that bad. Salmon is my usual favorite, even then that was a disappointment. 2 adults, 1 child. One bento box, one 30 piece sashimi, 3 nigiris set me back to a little less than $ 100. The only good thing I liked was their rice came out hot and fresh. We have to wave several times to get some service and it wasn’t even that busy on a Saturday early dinner at around 5:30 pm. I had hopes for this place considering the ratings on Unilocal was pretty high. Needless to say, I don’t recommend and I won’t be returning.

I must update my review… After trying everything on the island I repeatedly come here(even though i live next to sushi house). Never a wait, attentive servers. If you sit at the bar the sushi chefs are great. The crab prawns are good. They serve baby octopus nigiri, not large octopus so it’s not tough. if you ask they will make you a custom roll. excellent!

Next door to C’era Una Volta. This was a decent place. Standard Chicken teriyaki and Shrimp Tempura. Not bad. They close at 2:30pm so late lunches here are not a good idea.

I ordered for delivery. Dynamite roll: assorted, spicy Spicy hotate roll: scallop Cherry blossom: salmon, tuna Ninja roll: spicy tuna and hamachi All the fish was fresh and the rolls weren’t full of rice like some sushi places. Delivery was super fast. Can’t ask for anything more!

Its Two Star Tuesday Again!!! I have walked by here several times from the parking lot thru the alley to Park St. Yellowfish is located in an alley in between Park St and Park Avenue, near Encinal & Central in Alameda. We tried to order omakase, but the waiter said they were too busy: Yeah, too busy making jive a$$ rolls! We started w/tako kimchee($ 8.95). In addition, we ordered a 15 piece sashimi($ 29.95), salmon skin handroll($ 3.95), and soft shell crab($ 6.95). To drink, we had a large Asahi($ 12.95), and Kamotsuru Namakakoi Junmai sake($ 12.95). First of all, the tako was a jok-o. There was hardly any kimchee taste, there was no heat and the portion of octopus was small: 2 Stars. Secondarily, the sashimi was a mixed bag. Some of it was cut nicely. However, some pieces were cut w/a knife that was not sharp enough resulting in a chewy texture. Nonetheless, the fish was fresh: 3 Stars. Thirdly, the salmon skin handroll was terrible. The salmon skin was overcooked: 2 Stars. Lastly, the soft shell crab was a f*kn joke! It was the smallest soft shell crab I have ever seen in my life. Additionally, it was served w/a tonkatsu type sauce vs the typical, thin sauce. Soft shell crab is already sweet. The tonkatsu sauce was stoopid: 1 Star. The service from the waiter was OK. However, not offering omakase cos you are too busy is bad service. In addition, no one said thank you when we left: 2 Stars. The ambiance is nice. There are about 10 seats at the sushi bar, and there is an upstairs. It is much larger than appears to be from the outside: 3 Stars. Sorry to my yfs before me, but this place is a poor excuse for a sushi place. I never heard of a place w/a sushi bar that does not serve omakase?!? In addition, they also serve robatayaki! That is sacrilege amongst sushi places. Although this place is Chinese owned, I am not gonna hate on it solely for that reason(I rated Ootoro in Diamond Bar 5 Stars after all). I am gonna hate on it cos it serves marginal food, at high prices. BTW, there is a blowfish hanging from the ceiling. I doubt the chefs have the certification to serve such a delicacy. But I don’t even trust them to serve Americanized sushi, so I wouldn’t trust them to serve blowfish.

It hurts me to do this… but I pride myself in being honest & truthful in my reviews. My wife & I had dinner at YellowTail about a month ago and we left very dissatisfied. We started with an appetizer order of Hamachi Kama followed by orders of Cherry Blossom Roll, Salmon Lover’s Roll and Rock’n Roll. When our rolls came, they seemed more like tiny rolls similar to the size of some Tekka Maki rolls I’ve had… the pieces of sashimi in or on the rolls were thin & small. They even seem to «skimp» on the amount of rice put into the rolls. Bottom line, undersized portions made for an overpriced dinner. Very disappointed…

The place is tiny and the location is hidden — easy to miss. It’s in the ally right after Tomatina. The other reviews stand true about the dragging service and the missing traditional Japanese greeting. It’s not crowded nor is it loud. Seems like the lack of energy from the staff sucks the life out of this restaurant. You cannot find one single smile on any of the faces that work here. They do, however, give you a sealed hot wipe which adds a nice touch. The food, on the other hand, is delicious. Loved their sushi rolls! The lion king wasn’t smothered in thick mayo sauce and the proportion of ingredients was perfect. We also ordered the Ben’s roll, 49er roll, and Sumo roll(my new fave). Each roll ordered was between $ 8-$ 10.95. It seems like many people order to go rather than actually dining in. Given the slow service, I understand why. Next time, I’d probably do the same — order to go.
