I was super excited to try a freshly made ice cream taco, and was reminiscing about the oldie but goodie Choco Taco while waiting in line at Rocko’s. They are definitely efficient, which I loved, but the Salted Caramel Taco w/Dark Chocolate Dip($ 5) didn’t do much for me. I loved the dark chocolate drip, which created a hard and crispy shell thanks to their use of liquid nitrogen, but the salted caramel ice cream didn’t seem to have much flavor. Since I was also expecting the chewiness from the taco shell(a la Choco Taco), but it was more crispy/flaky instead. My friend took one bite and lost interest so I had to finish the rest of it. For $ 5 it was also a little on the small side. I’m glad I tried Rocko’s once, and I would consider coming back to try something with a Peanut Butter Dip next time– I just wouldn’t get the Salted Caramel again.

Amazing! Best ice cream treat I’ve had in a long time. I got salted caramel ice cream, dipped in dark chocolate and peanut butter at the Eat Real Festival in Oakland. Now I’m going to have to make a special trip to Off the Grid in Alameda just to get these again. Can’t wait for them to open a store!

While at the Eat Real Festival this weekend I decided to get some ice cream in hopes of beating the hellish heat. I ordered the salted caramel waffle taco dipped in dark chocolate and topped with almonds. Although the size of the waffle taco looks small, they pack it pretty good with ice cream. Overall the taste is okay. The salted caramel ice cream lacked flavor and didn’t have a good mouth feel, not very smooth. The waffle cone was so thin, it was hard to distinguish between the ice cream and the cone. Which was a real bummer, because the cone is what motivated me to order an ice cream taco instead of a popsicle from Fat Face. The last issue I had with the ice cream taco was the way it was served. It comes served in a paper wrapping, which wouldn’t be so bad if it wasn’t 90 degrees outside. Since I wasn’t trying to suffer from the so called dreaded brain freeze, I decided to forgo shoveling the ice cream taco into my mouth like a competitor in the Nations Hot Dog Eating Contest, which resulted in some of the ice cream and chocolate melting into a sticky mess on the paper. Now in addition to trying to eat the darn thing, I have to keep the melted ice cream and chocolate from spilling all over me. It became a very stressful situation. Long story short, the ice cream tacos should be served in some kind of container to catch drippings and I should have ordered a Fat Face popsicle.

Had the vanilla taco with dark chocolate dip and pistachios at the Los Altos Arts and Wine Festival. It was super good and the waffle shell still had a crunch. They look small but they’re so rich that they end up being the perfect size! Also they use liquid nitrogen which is super cool!

Our go to for ice tacos! Had the mint chocolate with white chocolate dip at the Los Altos Art and Wine Festival! The taco was still crunchy and not soggy at all! Also can’t beat the great customer service! Thanks ladies!

My friends and I were at the Los Altos Arts & Wine Festival and came across this cute little cart and decided to give it a try. It was pretty hot so it was definitely nice to stop and get a cold dessert. I didn’t get their ice cream taco(which may or may not make my review as valid) but I saw they sold frozen bananas as well! That’s what I was craving so I just went for it. You can pick which flavor dip you’d like(milk chocolate, dark chocolate, white chocolate, peanut butter) and an extra dip is 25cents more. On top of that, you can choose a topping to go on it for an extra 50cents. They had peanuts, pistachios, and pretzels. Yum! They make it right in front of you and dip it in liquid nitrogen. It was delicious! The only con was that it was a bit on the smaller side, but it was $ 2 so I can’t really complain. Next time I’m definitely trying the ice cream tacos!

My friends and I stumbled upon Rocko’s at the Los Altos Art and Wine Festival and I ended up getting the frozen banana dipped in milk chocolate with pistachios for $ 2.50! I like that they had different types of toppings besides the ordinary peanuts on a frozen banana(almonds, pistachios, and pretzels). The ladies were very friendly and helpful when I was deciding what I want. I’m definitely going to come by again just to try out the different dips and toppings!

OMG! Talk about amazeballs! Not only delicious and creative(the flavors are so creative!) but they offer gluten-free and vegan options! The dips are yummy, and watching them«freeze» your taco or banana or cake pop is so fun! It’s a fun treat, don’t pass it up if you see the truck!

Time: 12:52pm/62°F cloudy Purpose: Just drop off a friend at OAK airport. Decided not to take freeway instead Doolittle. Then it hits me OTG in Alameda southshore. Set-up: Ice cream truck, LN2 canister, dry erase board, ipad, napkin dispenser, business card stack, tip jar, plaster makeshift ad stickers. Staff: Two girls late 20s friendly and knowledgeable. Quite efficient taking order and producing actual product. No rush or push for sale. Love places that lets you decide what you want and when to order. Both work in conjunction no back orders or confusion. Totally well organized. Cleanliness: Grade A, since its a truck were you only can see as high as your eyes can go. From my POV clean no complaints. Eats/Drinks: Ice cream taco of salty caramel $ 4 plus $.50 for almond toppings. ICT was made from freshly press waffle, scoop of ice cream then dip into your choice of dips. Four flavors to choose from. Mines was dark chocolate for more health conscious antioxidants. Topping it off with roasted almond pieces. What can I say? It’s nothing new to me, had it before many times just not at Rocko’s. It’s just average tasting, nothing mind blowing. I do enjoy the roasted almonds encrusted to liquid nitrogen blasted chocolate. Some were even whole almond seen. Ice cream part was cold, sweet tasted exactly what was listed. Very well balance resembles a taco just needs to be about an inch bigger as it was smaller than my hand. Well, I may be speaking for myself on this. Let’s say the average hand size will see it as small too. Other than that minor gripe, its pretty good. Main Features: Ice cream taco with 6 flavors of ice cream and 4 dippings of choice. Products/Services: Ice cream tacos, ace cream cake pop, frozen banana, waffle chipz(for furbabys). Topping: Cocoa nibs, almonds, pretzels $.50/dippings: milk/dark/white chocolate and PB. First dipping is free after that its $.25 extra. Takes all major plastic and Square payment. Punch Lines: Friendly, zippy service, modest cost, drool-worthy, organic/local ingredients, limited offerings, LN2, imaginable toppings, devotees, worth the wait, casual and delicious, nothing special, novelty eat, satisfactory. Tradeoffs: No difference between the ice cream taco and a waffle cone dip in chocolate with a scoop of ice cream with endless toppings. Only the shape is the difference. One is a taco shell shape and the other a cone. Final Thoughts: Not much of a sweets person, but sometimes curiosity gets the best of me. Rocko’s have certainly done that today. To me its really a standard novelty treat than out of this world must have. Great for summer days though. So +1 for Rocko’s and 0 for me. Suddenly or as, I should say lately. I’ve been loosing to the sweets topic lately.

Really good ice cream tacos made out of waffles with a variety of flavors to choose. I got the Salted Caramel Vanilla Dipped in Dark Chocolate. The waffle taco is crunchy and manages to hold its shape. The ice cream is delicious as is the dark chocolate dip. Would have loved to been served a larger taco size for the price. Still, very good dessert.
