Wow, the sushi here is so good. I highly recommend the Volcano roll, it’s warm, crunchy, with just a little bit of spice.

Unnecessary huge price increases have taken this above average strip mall Asian fusion off my list. Some tasty rolls but not worth the jacked up prices overall… too bad… it’s half mile from home!

Good place if you can’t decide what kind of Asian food you want. Slightly pricy but typical of Alamo. Singapore seafood stew too spicy and lacked enough coconut flavor. Shrimp also overcooked. Wait staff didn’t speak much English but speak Chinese. Took away dishes too quickly when we weren’t done. Sushi rolls were good. Tonkatsu had ample portion but sauce was too salty.

Delicious! The name and exterior might not draw you in, but don’t overlook this place. Artistic, tasty and creative.

My boyfriend and I wanted to try a new sushi restaurant and we came across this place on Unilocal and decided to check it out and im glad we did! It’s a really cute restaurant and a great place for a date. They also had tvs so you could watch the sports games! We ordered gyzo, the raider roll and 49ers roll and it was all amazing! The staff was very friendly and the service was very quick. At the end we ordered their ice cream which is home made and you could definitely taste the difference. Definitely a must and they topped the ice cream with sweet little sesame cookie things. I would definitely recommend this place and will be going here again for sure!

I was gonna go to panera before getting my nails done but it was the day before Christmas Eve and that parking lot was insane. So I stumbled by this place on accident after I gave up on parking across the street. It was very serene inside. I imagine it’s louder during the dinner rush. But it was lunch time and there was only one other table seated. The food was good. But pricey for lunch. All lunch specials were served with miso soup and salad. So I had that with my sushi and roll combo. A decent sized red dragon roll with 5 generous portions of chef selected sushi pieces. Everything was tasty and seemed as fresh as can be. I’ll definitely come again. But won’t be able to come often at the prices.

Such slow service, sub pat food and un-friendly wait staff! We’ve been sitting here half an hour with no water… I can’t even believe how slow they are. If you decide to come prepare for a longgggggg night!!!

This place is easily one of the best Sushi places east of the tunnel. Honestly there are several sushi places in Walnut Creek and they are all mediocre. RJ’s has some really good sashimi choices. I liked the Baja Hamachi. The rolls were also very good and large portions as well. Sticking with the Baja theme the Baja California Roll was very good and not like anything else in this area. The service was first rate. They were not slammed by any means on a Friday but they were very attentive and the rolls came out very fast. Also, don’t forget to check in using Unilocal App. We got two scoops of amazing handmade spicy pumpkin and mocha ice cream.

Finally a great sushi restaurant in Alamo. Ricky is always there with a smile and great food. There are a lot of hot dishes as well that are awesome such as short ribs and pot stickers.

Hit or miss depending on the night. The shashimi is amazing sometimes, just good others times. The tempura was AWFUL last week when we got take out but the rolls were good. The menu is just hard to pin down as it’s not like you can order whatever you want, because it’s so hit or miss.

Seaweed salad and follow what is fresh — Tai and Sake are always good but check out Walu and Ikura with Quail egg too.

Great nigiri. Enjoyed the fatty tuna, tasted and melted in your mouth like butter! Great place for lunch!

We’ve tried a few items on their menu including bento, appetizers, sushi and desserts. Disappointed with the karage chicken which reminded me of McDonald’s little chicken nuggets. The appetizers were unique with fancy presentations, but the portions were small and pricey. The best deals at this place are the nigiri sushi and desserts. Most nigiri pairs are $ 5. The fish is fresh and the rice is prepared properly. They don’t prepare the nigirii with wasabi underneath the fish, but that’s okay. Desserts are $ 7 which is a great deal and quite good. BTW, they charge $ 1/person for tea.

Key here is context. It’s in a strip mall in Alamo, which is basically a food wasteland. So the fact that there’s a more than decent sushi/Asian fusion spot in our neighborhood that’s walkable is reason to celebrate. It’s not gonna stack up to sushi in SF, and it’s probably not worth going too far out of your way for this spot. But if you’re in the area looking for a unique, tasty restaurant with quirky local charm you can do way worse. And the noodles are bomb.

Me and the SO have really enjoyed this place. We stopped here on our way to Alamo Grill for food before drinks. I would say in terms of service and freshness to price ratio this place beats may others in a 15 – 20 sq mile radius. The Good: 1. Service — fast, attentive, nice 2. Food — didn’t try a bad item,
Hamachi appetizer — perfectly thinly sliced, could have been a bit spicier with the jalapeño but enjoyed Dragon roll — perfect crunch, no oil sog, nice flavor Sashimi — fresh and nice, decent portion Sake — it was $ 8 and they gave us a free refill.

RJ’s is located in a strip mall in Alamo, right on Danville Blvd. It is dark and intimate, with a sushi bar in the front, with two large flatscreens behind the chef. The food is Japanese-inspired for the most part, though they have some Korean and Singaporean items too. Overall — I give three star overall. Decent sushi and appetizers, awesome desserts, and just one flawed dish(it was returned and taken off our bill!). Service was wonderful! Appetizers: The Japanese Rock is a grill-it-yourself experience, with several thin slices of marinated rib-eye. The rock cooks the meat in seconds, and I found the meat juicy and well-seasoned. No need for their ponzu and teriyaki sauces which would be overboard. Their Crab Stack is a nice little tower of avocado, mango, and lump crab meat that you spoon onto a large croûton. Pretty light and refreshing. Garlic Edamame was excellent — garlic flavor permeated each bean all the way through. 4 stars. Sushi: I got the combo 6-piece nigiri with the Baja Cali Roll(Hamachi wrapped on the perimeter of a Californian Roll, made with real crab meat of course). Fish toppings were very fresh, and I liked the loosely-packed rice. Baja Roll had some acidity from the ponzu sauce, but I didn’t quite taste the jalapeño for that Japanese-Mexican fusion. Still pretty good. 4 stars. Seafood Soba Stir Fry: Yikes this dish came drenched in sauce and was otherwise too salty for us to enjoy. After a few bites we sent it back and they took it off our bill. 2 stars for food quality. The dish had good amount of scallops and shrimp but that sauce permeated through the noodles and overpowered everything. Desserts: 5-stars! Their bitter dark chocolate-raspberry soufflé is worth waiting for, especially when paired with their organic ginger ice cream. Among one of the best desserts I’ve had in a fusion restaurant — even surpassing Roy’s Lava Cake. Their Coconut Tapioca pudding was also nice — wasn’t overly sweet, had a slight bit of tanginess, and big enough to share. Would recommend coming back for the appetizers and desserts! The sushi rolls are interesting. We would avoid anything stir-fried for fear of excessive sauce.

Four of us dined this evening — all first timers. It was excellent. The Rainbow Roll(crab, tuna, salmon, yellowtail, albacore, avocado, cucumber) was fresh and expertly presented. Tuna Sashimi was delicious. The two Wok dishes, Seafood Yakisoba(shrimp, calamari, scallops, so a noodles) and Yasai It Ame(vegetable stir-fry) were perfect and plentiful! They have a pastry chef and we had homemade ice cream(3 flavors) and a tapioca, coconut pudding. The ambiance was lovely — the décor beautiful. Our waitress, Christina, was not rushed, took her time explaining dishes and had us smiling and laughing. A very delightful evening. Great to have this restaurant in Alamo!
