The double-D of DD has a double meaning. Yes, it probably stands for Dunkin’ Donuts. But it’s also a warning: Don’t Do it. Once upon a time Dunkin’ Donuts used to be wonderful. I don’t think it was just a childhood memory. But when I was a kid all the donuts were fried in the wee early morning hours at each location. And there they were hand filled and finished. Maybe they weren’t made with the greatest of care. But they were a far cry from what you get now. The French Crullers leave some weird film in your mouth. The cake donuts are made with konjak and soy flour, and everything in the donut case is oddly salty. I ended up checking the nutritional info on these donuts to see if it was my imagination. But it’s true. The sodium count is ridiculously high. There are great donut choices in the region from some of our independent bakeries. Stewart’s has better coffee. Heck, now that McDonald’s has improved its coffee, even that tops DD. Honestly, I cannot think of one reason to eat anything here unless forced to do so against your will.

A busy and befuddled DD’s, tucked away in a rear ministripmall that’s a little hard to get to(your easiest access is actually coming in off Osborne through the McDonald’s parking lot.) This is a midsize with a drivethrough, with 22 seats at 11 tables in combinations somewhat awkwardly split over the two sides of the store. I say«befuddled» because the staff seemed a little unclear as to what they had or didn’t have, although they were plenty friendly so I’ll drop them a mulligan here. Extra warning on the parking lot to the rear: it’s very blind to drivethrough customers, making its transnavigation to get into the store from your car very hazardous. Easier and safer to park down near the health club and walk up than to risk your life cutting near the drivethrough lane.

When Wife and I visit her family in Upstate NY, I practically live at this Dunkin Donuts drive thru. The staff is incredibly friend and efficient when taking orders, and I never have to wait long to get my order.

I’m not typically a fan of Dunkin Donuts, but the 24-hour location got me through a lot of nights in college. Usually, I’d prefer an actual coffee shop for my morning or afternoon cup o’ joe. Unfortunately, there isn’t one that’s convenient to my daily commute to work. This place fits that bill. What really makes this place win my heart though, is the customer service. This place boasts the friendliest staff I think I’ve ever encountered. One woman delights me by calling everyone by little pet names like darling, honey and baby. She’s ironic, she’s sassy and she’s quick. I probably only come in about once every two weeks but yet they often know my order before I’ve even said it(small coffee, whole milk, no sugar.) Oh, and when I’m feeling really lazy, the drive-thru is definitely a guilty pleasure.
