We asked my friend from india to take us to his favorite Indian place in the Bay, and he took us here. Hands down the best Indian food I have ever had, I crave it all the time. I have tried most of the lamb and goat dishes here and they are all AMAZING. I have tasted a lot of the menu, with my friends getting a diverse range of foods every time we come here(even though I usually stick with saucy lamb dishes) and I love everything I have ever tried here. Their onion naan is really above average, I usually don’t bother getting it in other restaurants, but it is phenomenal here. Highly recommend! Such an underrated restaurant, you should definitely check it out! Never had to wait for a table(I’m telling you, underrated!). Fast service, friendly staff, amazing food!

This is my second time to this place. To be honest I went back to this place just for their chicken choila and aloo ko achhar. I fell in love with their food, was glad to find this place that reminded me of Nepal with their flavor. I took my buddies who recently visited from LA. We were there around 5 past 2. When we entered the restaurant, the server greeted us and said we close at 2:30 and you have to eat and leave by 2:30. We were shocked to hear that. That was so rude. We basically had 25 minutes to eat, pay and leave. We drove for 3 hrs in the San Francisco traffic to get there. I have eaten in so many places and never heard anything like that anywhere. While we were there they sent back few guest. They certainly lost them for sure. I think the owner has forgotten we are from the country where we treat our guest as god. «Athiti devo bhawa» Tips for the staff and owner, «Every guest that comes through your door, is the most important guest you’ll ever have.» You have to understand, you are in hospitality business this is the one thing you cannot underestimate. Food is easy; Being courteous, kind and well mannered to everyone of your guests, every time, is not. Keep smiling, that’s the prettiest thing you can wear. Goodluck Jai Nepal…

Love love love this place. Our go to Nepalise restaurant in Berkeley. My husband and I went Last night. Were seated right away and I love the feeling of the place. We had our usual dishes, tiki masala and the lamb tali. They were both very good. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone who is looking for a great Indian restaurant in Albany.

This is my favorite Indian restaurant in the Berkeley area. My wife and I have been eating here for several years and we have never had a bad meal. The Chicken Tikka Masala is to die for.

This is my favorite Indian Himalayan/Nepalese place to eat. The food is amazing. I’ve been here alone, with friends, with family, with everyone! The portions are generous, the menu is extensive and the service is consistently good. This is a fantastic place. Oh and I’ve also gotten take-out from here, portions and quality are the same. Very pleased with everything about this place!

Yum, I came here after my hike at Point Reyes and I was so hungry. I ended up ordering the bagdan bharta(eggplant), chicken tikka masala, rice, naan and Sev Batati Puri. The sev batata puri sounds similar to what my bf had in the past so we were hoping it was the same. Unfortunately, it wasn’t exactly what he was looking for but it was still very good. The eggplant dish was okay but the chicken tikka masala was probably my favorite. The chicken was tender, warm and juicy. The service here was very good and I liked the décor of the place. I wouldn’t mind coming back here for Indian food if I was ever in the area again.

Since moving from London earlier this year I was on the look out for a great Indian restaurant, the adopted national cuisine of Britain, and I didn’t have to look further when I found Aangan! We’ve been coming here for about 5 months now and it has been consistently delicious whenever we have gone, irrelevant of busy-ness or day of the week. My girlfriend and I are vegetarian so we can only speak for a part of the menu, but the items we have tried have been great. The ingredients and spices are fresh and tasty. Our favourite dishes/sides are: — Masala Dosa — Chana Massala — Vegetable Curry — Garlic Naan — Tandoori Roti — Vegetable Samosa I’d highly recommend coming here for authentic Indian and Nepalese food, it is also very reasonably priced. We recommended it to our flatmates, who are meat eaters, and they are regulars now too! We’ve tried a few other Indian restaurants in the area, but this is the one we keep coming back to! Thank you to everyone who works there for always making such tasty food!

Our plan A for dinner was closed for renovation therefore we ended up here for dinner. We started out with an order of samosa to fill our stomach along with the main entrees of chicken tikka masala and lamb vindaloo. Dipping the creamy chicken tikka masala in garlic naan was full of flavor and richness. The lamb vindaloo actually paired better with the basic butter naan. The place smell like Clorox and the restroom was slippery with their cleaning agents. Other than that, the service was friendly and the food was decent.

Satisfying food and great service. I normally order *Chicken Tikka Masala *Fish Curry *Onion or Garlic Naan I tried this creamy lamb curry once and it tasted like peanut butter. Otherwise, everything on the menu is pretty good.

My absolute favorite place to eat Indian food in the Bay Area(even though it’s technically Indo-Nepalese). I’ve been here at least 5 times and it never disappoints. Their garlic naan is HEAVENLY. Their chicken biryani and chicken tikka masala are awesome.(Ask for spicy chicken tikka masala, it won’t be that spicy and this is coming from someone who doesn’t really eat spicy food.) I’ve tried a few of their other dishes but these are my favorites. Would definitely recommend this place to anyone in the Bay Area looking for excellent Indian food. Has more variety than Vik’s. Vik’s is good for chaat. When I think of this place I begin to drool. It’s that good.

We enjoyed their goat with gravy and the vegetable momos were very good comfort food. The momos were huge with nice soft home-made skins stuffed with lots of veggies. We also liked their Nepalese beer. Service was good. It takes a long time to cook the momos(20 minutes). I loved their red table clothes and chairs. Very Valentines-like. Perfect for a date!

Hamro Aangan is definitely not a place to miss in Albany! I remember randomly running into this restaurant while I was Unilocaling for good places to eat with a friend, and the reviews for Hamro were stellar. Some fellow Unilocalers suggested that this restaurant was one of the best for Indian/Himalayan/Nepalese food. I knew I had to check it out. This restaurant is very accessible by both car and by bus because it is located neatly on San Pablo! I love this area because there’s always going to be ample parking. It’s a little bit past solano and so once you see that street, make sure to turn around. Right when you walk in, you are spammed with this nice aroma of spices that’s so deliciously intoxicating. In my opinion, you know you are in an authentic restaurant when the aromas are overpowering. The menu is pretty simple. I feel like this restaurant is more on the Indian side than Himalayan/Nepalese because most of the items on the menu were standard Indian dishes(save for some Momos I think?). I debated on whether to try the supposedly delicious garlic naan, but I eventually settled for the lamb plate and my friends both got the chicken tiki masala. Lamb Plate This was actually a very satisfying meal! For around $ 12, you get two pieces of normal naan, raita, paneer, and the bean soup along with the lamb curry. In my opinion, the naan wasn’t all that spectacular. I’ve been to establishments that have had crunchier and more flavorful pieces of naan and so this one here was a bit disappointing. However, the lamb curry itself made up for it. I asked for extra spicy and though it didn’t meet my spice preferences, the curry definitely made the naan taste better(still soft though). The paneer and lamb were great compliments to the basmati rice. I felt like I got a quality meal for $ 12. Unfortunately, I put the yogurt to the last moment, and I couldn’t finish it. All in all, I had a very good experience at Hamro. Although I wouldn’t say that this is my favorite Indian restaurant of all time, I did enjoy my time here. It’s a nice location outside of the Berkeley bible and there’s a lot of parking in the area too. You can check it out for yourself, and let me know! Eat well and prosper,

Interesting reading the reviews here. Our experience was great. The prices were reasonable and the food was hot, flavorful and of high quality. The naan was perfect. It was a little weird to order and not get rice and have to order it later. I don’t know how often it happens that someone wants a big bowl of chicken curry whatever to just eat like soup. They should raise the price a little and include rice or at least ask diners who don’t order it if they would like to order it. All in all, we’ll be back.

My friend is a regular here and kept telling me about this place. I came twice within a week(once with a friend, the other time with family), and I agree that this is some good stuff. FOOD * Chicken Chwela– My favorite dish! An authentic Nepalese dish of spicy marinated chicken, beaten rice, and potatoes(w/green sauce). Served cold, this dish is authentically unique. Will definitely order again. * Vegetable Thali– Combination of naan, rice, saag paneer, curry, dal, and raita. All fresh flavors that combine with each other nicely. * Chicken Momo– Basically steamed Asian dumplings with a creamy Nepalese sauce. The chicken inside the dumpling is fresh. * Naan(regular, garlic, and cheese) — Delicious! Garlic one is $ 2.50 and cheese one if $ 3.50. Think thick, homemade stuffed pizza crust without the toppings. * Sev Batata– Popular appetizer. A party bite of savory, sweet, and sour in your mouth all at once. * Chicken curry– Consistent, tasty. Comes on the chicken thali dish. Next time I’ll order the tikki masala, another popular curry dish. * Eggplant curry– Standard. * Lamb vindaloo– One of the spicier dishes. I liked the other dishes more. The owners and servers are VERY friendly. Parking is easy in the nearby lot(shared with BevMo’s). Always an available table. Prices are affordable at around ~$ 10/dish. Come here for some authentic food! I’ll be back!

This place is delicious! We ordered the Samosa Chana appetizer and for the main dish I ordered the Chicken Platter. Which had curry chicken, lentils, saag with paneer, and raita. Included in that was naan, papad, and basmati rice. The food was so fragrant with Indian spices. Each had their own flavor profile. The platter was perfect for me and my family who also ordered a similar dish yet different meat. It was just enough to sample each dish to help decide for a late return. The Samosa were large, however had average taste and were not flaky as described in the menu. I do wish that the main dishes came with a side of naan or rice rather than a separate order, a predicted extra expense. I would recommend this restaurant. The service and hospitality was good. One thing about the restaurant that was uncomfortable was the tables were placed too close to each other. So close that when we pulled out our chairs it touched the another table.

There were a variety of hits and misses here. Some things were fantastic while others fell short. We received a table immediately upon arrival. Score. Service wasn’t friendly whatsoever but I had no problem with the pace of the experience. We ordered, received our food, got our to-go boxes, and our check. No frills. No smiles. Most importantly, no delays. I’m ok with that. The food. Here’s where I became really confused. The garlic naan was fantastic. You know at other places, you’re flipping around the naan trying to find the fluffy pillow part while avoiding the burnt areas. Well, this naan was all entirely fluffy! Yum. Chicken tikka masala: The creamy texture was perfect but the sauce was incredibly sweet. Great portion of chicken. Saag paneer: Probably the worst I have ever had. There was no seasoning whatsoever. It was almost inedible but then I mixed it with the tikka masala sauce. Helped… but still extremely bland. Okra: The best I’ve ever had. The seasoning was spot on and it was cooked perfectly. I’d like to come back again and try this place out again. For now, with all the hits and misses… I think it deserves a solid 3 stars.

Definitely one of the best Indian place I’ve ever had and I am so happy that it is right here in Albany! I brought my family here on a Friday night and the place was lively, not packed but with the right amount of customers! We did not know what dishes to get that would be best for us so I asked the waiter for recommendations. Right off the bat he asked us whether we like spicy or creamy kind of curry, and we opted for the creamy. Then he proceeded to pick out 4 dishes that he believed would be the best for us — Chicken Tikka Masala, Lamb Korma, Chicken Biryani, and Tandoori Chicken with 1 garlic naan and 1 butter naan. I added the Chicken Momo as our appetizer as well. It took a while for our food to come out but I guess it was because they waited until they can serve all to us at once and we were also starving. When the food finally arrived, we proceeded to stuff ourselves with curries and naan. Everything was SO delicious!!! Definitely some great recommendations from our server. I really liked their chicken momo since the meat inside was so juicy and the curry sauce was also very tasty. I recommend eating the momo while it is still hot since it’s when it’s the most juiciest! Our favorites of the night was the garlic naan, the lamb korma and the chicken momo. My family and I all liked it so much that we were already talking about what we should get the next time we come back! The price is great as well! I think we might have found our«go to» Indian place :).

After Dinner #1 at Eureka!, we continued our evening food tour with Dinner #2 at Hamro Aangan. Indian curry flows through my veins, but I’m much less familiar with true Nepalese. As expected, the menu was practically identical to North Indian fare(there is significant overlap), so we made sure to seek recommendations from the Nepalese waitresses of items that you can’t find in India. Here’s what they had to say. ***CHICKENCURRY — Superb boneless chicken cooked in Nepalese household. Slightly different than traditional North Indian curry, but it wasn’t super noteworthy or fascinating. Pleasantly spicy, slightly watery. Kinda meh. There truly were big chunks of boneless chicken – I guess it’s got that going for it. ***CHICKENMOMO — Minced chicken with vegetables mixed with Himalayan spices wrapped in flour dough, steamed. If we’re being honest with ourselves, minced chicken just isn’t really that good, and the Himalayan spices couldn’t save it. This was dipped in a mild sauce of tomato & cilantro that wasn’t super intriguing. I will give them credit for making the dough for the wrappers from scratch, and for not making them too thick. ***KHASHIKOMASU — A superb Goat Dish served in a rich gravy Common Nepali Household. This dark gravy was spicy, soupy, & particularly lamby tasting, and I don’t mean that in a laudatory way. The meat was cooked until tender, but it was still a bit dry & stringy due to its leanness. Like the chicken above, there wasn’t really anything remarkable to differentiate this from Indian cuisine. ***AANGANKULFI — Pistachio flavored, reduced milk, Indian ice cream. Topped with vermicelli. I believe this is more Indian than Nepalese, but it’s inappropriate to turn down kulfi when it’s offered. This was some pretty great stuff, definitely in the realm of delicious & properly made kulfi, with that thick, almost meaty texture and über sweetness. Though it says pistachio flavored, there was a strong mango essence that took over. This was the best part of the meal. By the way, there was no vermicelli on ours, though I don’t think it would be necessary. ALLINALL: I often lament that there aren’t more countries or cultures in the world, for our culinary choices are so limited. We were really looking forward to this meal, hoping & praying that our palettes would encounter some beautiful new flavor combinations, but this ended up being just a slightly modified version of something familiar, and I’m not sure that I would consider the modification an improvement. Frankly, Indians make better curry, and the Chinese make better dumplings. Maybe we just need to go to Nepal to try it at the source.
