Friendly staff, good food, and easy order/sit down style. Offering both indoor and outdoor seating, House of Curries is a casual restaurant that cooks up standard Indian dishes. I highly recommend the aloo gobi and tandoori chicken(we ordered the breast). Portions aren’t the largest, so make sure you get enough dishes for your entire party. The naan, however, is huge and comes like a medium pizza size. I enjoyed the convenient condiment area(neatly placed napkins, plates, utensils, cups and delicious chai!). As previously mentioned, you order at the counter, sit down, food arrives at your table, and you pay when you finish eating. Food arrived quickly, and this made for an easy and efficient lunch.

I had the lamb curry and chicken tikka masala. The chicken tikka masala was as expected, and the lamb curry was tasty. I ordered the medium heat on both items and it was suitable, not mind blowingly indian hot, but not boringly mild either. If in the mood for curry then this is an ok place to go.

If you know what Indian food is supposed to taste like, you will literally hate this place. I ordered chicken tikka masala, it had absolutely no flavor and that is not an exaggeration. I was craving chicken tikka and came here and was extremely disappointed! Don’t waste your money and time here, horrible food.

Momo was ok. Chowmin was extremely terrible. We ordered veg chowmin and I couldn’t expect such made in Nepalese restaurant. It was almost curry with noddles on top.

The lamb curry was delicious with a very spicy kick to it. I like spicy so it was perfect for me. If you cannot handle spicy, ask for less spiciness from the default! The sesame and garlic naan were mediocre, but was much better when dipped into the curry. I would go back for the curry, but I do not recommend the naan. It’s hard to love a curry joint when the naan is mediocre.

My favorite is the Malai Kofta-Vegi/potato balls cooked with tikka masala sauce, with the lamb curry or Achar Ghosht. Chill spot for inexpensive good food in the area. Staff is friendly, it’s a regular spot for me and my boo.

This place is great. So it can get busy. Every time I’ve gone here, it has been busy. I have ordered the Keema naan. They are $ 4 and are HUGE. I get them with stuffed chicken. The mango lassi is also great. I’ve had nothing but great customer service and and quick food service. Parking can be a hassle and if it is busy, there might not be a place to sit, but there is a decent amount of seating and some outside seating too.

I was looking for really good Indian food and I went with my boyfriend. I had the mango lassi, the tandoori shrimp, cheese naan, and a lamb dish. Everything was cooked perfectly. The cheese naan was off the hook! It was like a pizza! The restaurant was clean, and service was great. There was also free chai tea! Great deal

The main dishes were bland and unimpressive. We ordered the palak paneer and karahi gosht — both dishes were failed attempts at flavor. The sauce for the karahi gosht tasted like tomatoes from a can. The few saving graces were that the lamb was cooked nicely and the dish was slightly spicy and added some«flavor». The palak paneer lacked seasoning and was obviously made from frozen spinach. The only thing that helped me finish my bites were to add the watered down chutney(which I would never think to do). I will say the naan was decent. The garlic naan had a good amount of garlic without overpowering your senses. The saddest part of my meal, however, was the gulab jamun. It’s fried dough drenched in flavored sugar — «what could go wrong?» you’d think. Unfortunately, the ones we had were quite hard to bite into and had a strange, almost slightly alcoholic aftertaste. Not sure if they were old or defrosted/stored improperly(I assume that’s why they were cold on the inside), but it was not at all enjoyable. The staff was fairly nice and you get free tea if you eat there, but I wouldn’t go back again anytime soon — and wouldn’t recommend you do either.

The naan is as big as a pizza and super garlicky. Best naan I’ve had. I’ve only had their Chicken Tikka Masala curry. I really don’t do spicy food, so when I find something with a spice level I’m comfortable with at a restaurant from a culture known for their spicy food, I tend to stick with it. I’m always pretty happy with the Tikka Masala, although it does taste mildly of tomato soup. But really, go for the naan.

The price was right. Not much more was. Positives: –Free chai tea(but it was pretty bland) — lots of outdoor seating –good naan overall Unfortunately, the reason my sister and I came to House of Curries was for the…(drum roll please…) curries. And they simply weren’t that good. We got the chicken tikka masala, which was fairly bland and tasted kind of like someone had plopped Campbells tomato soup on top of some dried chicken. We also got the palak paneer, which was decidedly meh and kind of spicy and the channa masala, which was also nothing special. On top of that, most if not all of the dishes were under seasoned, and we added salt and pepper in a last ditch attempt to salvage the meal. Sadly, we failed. We left full, but not satisfied. Would not recommend, and not intending to go back.

I don’t know how I feel about bathroom locations in which you have to walk thru the kitchen & make awkward eye contact with the chefs & workers… House of Curries on Solano has a nice friendly vibe to it, cute outdoor seating and clean tables. We ordered the tikka masala and the shrimp karahi with 2 naan. The tikka masala lacked the buttery, almost kind of sweet taste that I like. HOC’s tikka had a prominent tomato flavor, still good, but I wouldn’t say it was my fave. The shrimp karahi was spicy! But well flavored, with bits of onion and red peppers floating through the sauce. These people are really generous with their naan! We had huge round pieces of naan, I think one order would be ok for two.

This is the best Indian food in Berkeley /Albany. I have been eating here for years, it’s about time to write a review!!! I love this place, no surprises, you can expect the same great taste every time. They have the best paneer and Chicken tikka masala that I ever tasted.

Whoa. Spicy. I appreciate a place that doesn’t start at mild. We ordered the okra, chicken vindaloo, chicken tikka Marsala and one beef seek kabob. I’m giving it 5 stars because they don’t start at mild and give generous takeout portions.

I love this place for a quick bite! It’s right on Solano Ave across from Safeway. It’s pretty small and the atmosphere is nice and quiet. Perfect place to catch up with a friend. The plates and utensils are self serve. They have complimentary tea you can serve yourself as well. I usually order the chicken tikka masala with garlic naan and basmati rice. The chicken is delicious and creamy just as curry should be! There’s not much chicken but the sauce is enough to keep me dipping. The garlic naan is bomb!!! It’s very light and fluffy and comes out fresh and hot. They have a whole bunch of other naans that I’ve been dying to try as well like the onion and cheese. Everyone’s very friendly and the prices are good. Great place to go when you’re craving Indian food!

If you want cheap delicious Indian food. go here! I’ve been a long time customer of house of curries and there’s a reason why I keep coming back. Probably the best indian food I’ve ever had and its so close to home. Its a small place so it can get crowded but usually its pretty good. You walk in and seat yourself. Everything is self serve. Grab a menu at the cashier and the utensils, plates, water, soda, tea are all available within reach. Once you’ve come to a decision, you walk back up to the cashier and place your order. They will bring the food out to your table when its ready. Definitely get the garlic nana, chicken tikki masala, chicken tandoori, chicken curry, and mango lasso. I’ve tried their burritos and thought they were only ok. 2 naans is enough to feed 3 spot long as you have other dishes. If you like Indian food this is definitely the place to go. Oh and did I mention its cheap? On average $ 10 – 12 per person
