Newmans Bar & Grill

Stopped for late lunch on a Monday. Food was excellent. We ordered the grouper fingers and the Cuban sandwich. The sauces were really the star! We will be back!

I visited this restaurant for brunch today. I’ve visited before for lunch as well as dinner but I’d heard great things about brunch and decided to check it out. I was offered both the brunch and dinner menu and decided the brunch menu was enough. I ordered the chicken and waffles and let me say that the waffles were amazing! The chicken could use some seasoning but I would definitely order it again. The service was great as we didn’t have to wait too long for anything. I like this restaurant a lot. It is a good change from the normal chain restaurants in town.

Great service, enviroment, and live music, but the food is not great. I ordered New Orleans Pasta and it was not seasoned well. My friend’s dad ordered seafood platter and the shrimp smelled and tasted old. Small amount of food for a high price.

Horrible service. We thought we would get ahead of the Mothers Day crowd by making reservations. We waited 45 minutes and eventually walked out without ever receiving our food. We heard every excuse. The restaurant had many empty tables, so a full restaurant certainly was not the issue. Same experience when the restaurant was named Baja’s. Poor management, poor customer service. Will not return.

I ordered the seafood platter, it looked delicious. The fries are really good, the coleslaw is lacking flavor and everything taste the seem. As if the same batter was use for the fish and shrimps. Then fried in the same grease. The atmosphere is lovely, we visited around 2pm hardly anyone was there. Great service. I shall return. The desert was awesome. The platter looked soooo good, I just wish it tasted better.

I have been to Newman’s for brunch three times now and have had a bad experience each time! Granted we had a large party of about 12 or so but our service was extremely slow. We all ordered «bottomless mimosas» and we’re always empty and waiting on a refill. One person only was served one mimosa during her time there and still had to pay the $ 10! The food was slow to come out and they ran out of champagne EVERY time we went. I will never be going back to brunch at Newman’s or any other meal for that matter because the service has just ruined it for me.

Always a great time here! Great servers that work so hard, delicious food, and a fun environment. Plenty of space, live music, and quick food/​drinks.

I have no idea what these people are talking about!?! This place was great! I came down from philly to visit and wasn’t expecting much from Albany (as usual) but I was very pleased to see that a restaurant in Albany was trying to move forward. A lot of the reviews sounded like they prefer fast over quality. The best things in life are worth waiting for. So maybe most of the people on Unilocal complaining about how long the food took should stay with the fast food microwaved olive gardens and ruby Tuesday’s. Real fresh food takes time to make not to mention it’s a new restaurant and I have never been to a new restaurant that everything ran perfect from the opening (not that should be a excuse) but should be taken into consideration. Now I have something more to look forward to when I come to Albany.

Not bad! I had a ribeye sandwich. It was cooked to order and had a great taste. Service was good and the price was reasonable. I wasn’t astonished by the selection, but what I had was good. I’d try it again if someone wanted to go.

This place was amazing. Got a lot of food for a great price. The fries are amazing think I will come back just for an order of fries. I had the burger with slaw and it was juicy and tender. A friend of mine had the steak tacos and they were delicious. He husband had the Buffalo chicken sandwich and said it was a bit spicy but very delicious. We will definitely be back.

Went for the first time the other night … And thoroughly enjoyed it. Food was great … I had the BLT grilled cheese sandwich … As was the service. Will be back soon!

Met an old friend here last week, we both had the steak sandwich. Very good sandwich, fries were unusually good (cut fresh) Our waiter was very knowledgeable, about the menu and even gave us a hug before we left! I shall return!!!

Moderate food at a high price. The service was so slow I suspect they were trying to keep us there enough time for hunger to set back again. The music blaring was big hair Rock from the 80’s. My wife got cheese on a dry baked potato and we were charged $ 0.50 for a hard lump.
All of this and there was no crowd. Sorry but no thanks.

Very good chicken quesadillas and salmon tosatada app! The Cuban was «really good» as well says a friend.

Austin’s BBQ has always been decent for me so I decided to give newmans a try. A few of my friends went and said it was good as well. My mom and I went for lunch around 2pm. It was dead, maybe 2 or 3 other tables at the most. We got mozzarella sticks for an app and then my mom got the shrimps tacos with fries and I got the ribeye sandwich with the «signature steak house Mac and cheese». Well… it took forever to get our app. Then just the entrée came out. She had forgotten to put in the mozzarella sticks. She did bring us some after and took it off our bill. She never came back to top off drinks throughout our stay either. My sandwich was on a hoagie roll, the steak was decent, and the cheese was just a kraft cheese slice. My Mac and cheese was a pure disappointment. It was just mush and seemed like it had been reheated in the microwave. My moms however was really good. As for the mozzarella sticks, they were bland and the marinara sauce was watery.

Where do I begin… we know Austin Newman from his Austin’s BBQ place… a place we swore we would NEVER go again after several tries, re-​heated microwave BBQ and my wife even getting sick… nonetheless less we decided to give Newman’s a try… the service was great, I have no complaints there… the problem is that it took FOREVER to get our order and when we got it the food had obviously been under the heat lamp for a loooooong long time… the burger I ordered was super dry and the pretzel bun was so hard it was inedible… it could be because Austin (the owner) was there and it was more important for him to serve his friends/​family that came in AFTER us and make sure they got their food first… we watched it happen… bad business… bad form… and the whole time Austin was walking around and talking to tables and he NEVER stopped by ours once to ask how things were… I sure wish he would have because I had plenty to say… as a person that travels for a living and eats in a variety of restaurants ALL OVER the country, I know what good food and service looks like… and I am a very forgiving patron and understand people have off days and should be given a little room for improvement… but my poor review and rating could have been avoided COMPLETELY by the owner stopping by and actually giving a sh*t, and talking to people he knew were having a bad experience… my burger was inedible, dry and the bun was sooooo hard I couldn’t eat it… in their defense they made me a new one and it was FANTASTIC… and the fries were some of the best I’ve ever had… my wife ordered the filet with Oscar topping and béarnaise sauce and the plate was not sizzling and the béarnaise was dry and hardened… not good for a $ 25 steak… the mac and cheese and the stuffed potato were good… all in all an ok experience… but it was over $ 60 for lunch and not worth it… if it weren’t for our waiter, I would have given it ONE star… get your ACT TOGETHER, Austin… still not sure I will ever come back to a restaurant of which you are associated with it…
