O’Toole’s Restaurant

Since today is Tuesday and we loved this place my office decided to order burgers since the were $ 4.99. Placed an order for 7 hamburgers (some had extras so knew those would be a little more) they woman confirmed the order and requested it be done for 12. When I asked for a total she gave me 36 and some change then said hold on since its to go we charge you $ 2.00 a burger! What they heck fine no biggie $ 51 still not a bad price for 7 burgers. Well get back to my office and I only have 6 burgers!!! I call and they say we only ordered 6 that’s $ 8.50 a burger!!! Where’s my deal??? Also they must be confused on what well done is because our well don’t burgers were VERY pink throughout! I will never go back to this place

Great beer choices and the nachos were really good. Service was excellent and great bar feel with the fireplace. We will be back for sure

Went here last summer with me and my fiancée and 2 friends for the first time. We were greeted by someone friendly and brought to our table. It was dead that day. Only us and maybe 2 other tables at best. We waited 10 minutes for our server, and she took our drink order which included sodas and a hard cider. Another 10 minutes go by for that but no cider. And we asked where it was and she said she forgot and she was sorry. she takes our food order and still no drink. She claimed to forget again. That took almost a half hour. So now we are at about 50 minutes in just waiting. We got our food and it wasn’t the best but not bad either. Just seemed like the server couldn’t be bothered with us and left us to think she cared more about walking around talking to other co-​workers than on her job and making a good tip. Needless to say we were struggling to find a reason to tip her. Sorry not coming back after all that.

Honestly, my wife and I tried to enjoy this place. We decided to go to this establishment while in Albany for a road trip. I wanted to find a nice sports bar to watch the Eagles/​Patriots game. I thought it would be fun to watch a game in a Jets bar figuring it would be a fun place to hang out to finish the Jets vs Giants game. There was no hostess upon arrival and we made our way to a hi-​top table off to the side of the bar. We sat and watched the room for a bit with nary a server in sight. More servers walked past without acknowledging us. Finally, after about 15 minutes, a server stops and says «Your first time here». By the look on her face, our decision to sit was frowned upon (Then have a hostess). Our server rambled off some specials and took our beer order. We ordered a flat bread steak with Caesar dressing and a quesadilla. After a 15 minute, were rewarded with the worst quesadilla I have had in quite awhile, tasted like the cook tossed the chicken in Adobo and just stuffed it inside a dry tortilla. The steak Caesar was Dole romaine in a bag tossed onto dry flatbread points with Kraft parmesan with some random steak thrown on top. Wow, my kinda of eats (said no one ever). Bottomline: food awful, atmosphere awful, service awful. You made me love Philly even more.

Can you give a ½ star? Where to start?
We waited nearly 15 minutes to be greeted by anyone. A lot of people walked past and looked at us, but no one greeted us. When the server finally came to the table, she pointed out very clearly, this was our first time being here, she skipped over giving us an intro to the restaurant and just kind of rolled her eyes at us. We ordered a quesadilla (½ price apps on Sunday).
We also ordered a steak Caesar naan flatbread. That was an embarrassment. It was literally dried steak with chopped romaine lettuce and powdered with Parmesan cheese.
Behind us was a crew of about 20 men betting on everything. Horses, football, how long til their server came to refill their drinks.
I don’t know that I found a reason to return. The restaurant really left a bad impression of Albany on my husband and I. Terrible food, and awful service.
I have to end my review because I’m getting nauseous reliving my experience.

This place is pretty disappointing… The food was terrible… The service was less than desirable and it was cold in the restaurant. They have a fireplace that wasn’t lit… They advertise that they show the NFL games and yet the tvs are strategically placed so you can’t see the 22in screens if you are in the dining room. If you can’t deal with tilted/​crooked wall décor, well that’s another uphill battle.

It’s just okay. Went here on a date and they put us in the section behind the ordering station and refill station. Our waitress was pleasant, but almost non-​existent. This leads me to believe if you don’t reserve a spot, they put any extras in this barren section.
Service was as slow as molasses in January. Waited at least fifteen minutes for every drink order and it was NOT packed. Food was just so so. Nothing homemade, nothing special, but the actual nightly specials are good deals and I imagine people go here to drink and for those alone.

I ordered the chopped salad and it looked awesome when it came out. However, when i bit into the chicken, it was so hard and chewy — so gross! If the salad had come without chicken, it would have been one of the best salads I ever had. Just a heads up — don’t order the chopped salad with chicken!

Tried O’Toole’s again after a year’s absence due to disappointing experiences. Well this was, sadly, more of the same. Our order was wrong and we waited quite a while for the correction. The service was terribly slow, and, to be clear, it was not crowded. We ordered food to go and obviously it was forgotten, so we waited even longer.
Even though we sat with no drinks and were waiting for food, we had to go out of our way to get refills. Then, out of nowhere, the temperature dropped about ten degrees.
Mediocre food, terrible service, uncomfortable environment, it will be another year before we might try this again. Too bad it’s so convenient.

Good food big platters… it gets very loud though… if you are good at yelling then this is the place for you

Bar food bar food bar food bar food. What do they have here? A really extensive bar food menu. Nothing new and fancy or exciting but a whole lot of options that would please a casual crowd. The prices are really reasonable especially for lunch. The salads aren’t great here so I’d skip those but I’m a fan of the buffalo chicken wraps and the chili loaded with cheese and sour cream. They are good for groups and handle lunch time rush really well. Great specials all around so they can fit into any budget.

I like coming here for the pub atmosphere. The food is good and the drinks are cold. I had the veggie burger this visit and it was a little disappointing. Looked like they just popped it out of the freezer and onto the flat top. On the other hand my family members had the chicken fajitas and the teriyaki salmon. Both of those dishes were delicious. I suggest that the chef consider making a homemade veggie burger or perhaps finding a better frozen one.

Best place for bar food lunch, The value of the lunch specials cannot be beat and place is always busy. Had NE clam chowder on last visit and was very good. Across the street from Harbor Freight so always have excuse to be in the neighborhood. Burgers and sandwiches are good.

We waited to be sat. We waited to be greeted. We waited for everything to the point that we’ll probably never be back. After spending 11 years in the restaurant industry, I have a lot of tolerance for a busy day, which this was not. High prices, so they run lots of specials, and small portion sizes. Mediocre at best. Don’t bother.

Fantastic experience from beginning to end. It’s a nice atmosphere-​you can choose to sit at the bar or at a table, both very nicely set up.
We had an amazing waitress who was super friendly and informative without coming on too strong (unfortunately I forget her name, I think it started with a D). She had spot on suggestions.
Not only was she great, but a gentleman who was either the manager or owner also came around to introduce himself, show us their daily specials, tell us about their VIP program and buy us a drink. He was also very nice, wasn’t pushy at all.
The food was awesome! You definitely have to give their wings a try. And the Reese pie! Great price, especially for the portions.

The staff were very nice and the food just OK. I don’t think this is a place to go with high expectations. The burger was good — it had a nice char and I ordered the shoestring («plain») fries instead of the beer-​battered ones that would normally have come with the meal because I didn’t want all that extra seasoning. Nice long bottled beer selection, about 20 more on tap. Pathetic wine list and not much choice in terms of quality liquor so if you are with a friend who doesn’t like beer and wants a drink find another venue. Lively bar scene but no Happy Hour specials in the dining area. Plenty of parking.

Group of 6 and most everything was good. Waitress very accommodating. However, we were ALL disappointed in the garlic –Parm wings. No flavor and only a light sprinkle of Parm cheese over the top. «Where’s the garlic???» On top of that, we had ordered 20 and were short changed.
Music duo was really good on a Friday night 11÷14÷15 but by the time 8 rolled around, even at the back, where we were, it was so loud we interpreters needed to talk using our sign language skills! Walking out past them ½ — 1 hour later was painful!

I really like O’Toole’s. They have great drinks, awesome trivia and a relaxed environment with FIRE.
I loves me a fireplace.

But anyway, the food here is very serviceable and totally filling. When I went, the waitress accidentally put in my steak order for the larger size, but it was not my fault so she only charged me for what I ordered.
SO legit. Totally delicious, medium rare, a little bit red and pink and drippy and delicious meat. And I love that I wasn’t penalized for something that wasn’t my mistake. Honestly, acknowledging the issue and alerting me to it is one of the best examples I’ve seen recently of proactive customer service.
If a restaurant messes up your order, it’s on them, not you. O’Toole’s made a mistake but they owned and delivered on it in a way that makes me want to come back to them the next time I’m in NY.
As someone who almost never goes to NY anymore, that’s a feat.
