this place is quite average. the food is pretty decent, but the service and ambience is quite bad. they are always jam packed and pack everyone in so tight, which makes for an awkward and uncomfortable meal. the last time i was there and i ordered my meal, a bento box, the waitor started laughing at me and mocking me and said«would you like a toy with your happy meal?» SO extremely rude. will probably not be going back. there are plently of other japanese restaurants that have amazing service and better food.

If you want good sushi in the Roslyn area for a reasonable price look no further. The menu is vast and they will accommodate a special order. Unlike traditional japanese sushi restaurants you can mix it up the way you like. Grab a table, sit at the sushi bar or go for the hibachi room all are good. Ask what the fresh fish of the day is If it’s the blue fin toro definitely go for some as it won’t last long and it’s so good. Tonites meal consisted of fluke and stripped bass sashimi, blue fin toro sashimi, fresh spicy scallop hand roll and two pieces of eel. Awesome Leave room for dessert. Try the green or red bean ice cream.

Best sushi that I’ve had on Long Island. I travel there from the East End to meet friends from down island. The prices are comparable to most good sushi restaurants, the service better than others restaurants. The Motley Crew Boat for 2 or 3 is no longer in a boat but is a sampling of Sakaya at its best.

This is my favorite sushi place. I am a regular & go at least 1 – 3 times a month(sometimes more). It is rarely crowded, always fresh and never skimpy. Good for dining in with a chill, chic atmosphere, and has hibachi also; for guests who don’t go for the raw fish. My go to for holidays like Valentines Day, and they have great lunch specials! Try the garlic edamame, I always get Chirashi with brown rice. Haven’t been disappointed yet!

Last minute decision to have lunch with a friend here yesterday. I had the 3 roll lunch special for $ 12 bucks(salmon, yellowtail and spicy tuna rolls with miso soup and dumplings.) All in all, decent food(I didn’t have high expectations for a local non-Japanese run joint) + 1 star for value.

We go here regularly and we love it. The sushi is excellent and fresh and the hibachi food is great as well. When we do come in to eat(we take out a lot) the waiters are nice and attentive. We often order the sushi boat and come with a lot of sushi/sashimi and it’s not expensive for sushi. Highly recommend!

Food is generally great. Hibachi is fun the atmosphere is very nice in this restaurant as well. Really good for a family dinner definitely not a date night. I don’t know what it is but everytime I’ve had dinner here(early as 5 or late as 9) there are crying children, so I wouldn’t really recommend it for a date night.

Had the hibachi. The«show» was pretty good; the kids especially loved the onion volcano with the«little boy peeing» doll. The food itself, however, was fair-to-middling. The filet mignon was slightly overcooked from my medium rare and most of the other items somehow lacked flavor. The scallops were almost boiled rather than sautéed. The dipping sauces were bland, and they didn’t give it to us until I asked. I tend to prefer individual Japanese restaurants to the chains like Benihana. But in this case, this restaurant is sadly lacking.

Had dinner at Sakaya last night with an old friend. She and her husband eat here all the time and were raving about the food and service… so I was easily convinced to give it a shot. We shared 4 rolls: –LIE Roll: Spicy salmon, avocado, cucumber, crunch & caviar –Irv’s Roll: Tuna, salmon, shrimp, avocado & caviar –Rising Sun Roll: Shrimp tempura & avocado topped with crabmeat, mayo & caviar –Shrimp Avocado Roll The rolls were gigantic… we were full before we finished everything… but we took one for the team and pushed through. Just say«no!» to leftovers. Fish was fresh and the specialty rolls were delicious. The décor is very modern chic… clean… high ceilings… open space… separate area with a few hibachi tables… comfy chairs. Friendly, attentive service… my water and tea were ALWAYS full. As «Ahnold» says, «I’ll be back».

Always love this place. Happy makes it a great time with saki bombs when you go for night out with friends. Assortment of sushi is fantastic. Highly recommend the king salmon, uni with quail egg, tobiko and quail egg and they always have a fresh fish typically a red snapper they’ll slice up for an appetizer for you.

Sakaya is usually a spot I take out or grab a quick sushi dinner from in Roslyn. The sushi is pretty good and they have so many different options. I’ve been going to Sakaya for years and they also have hibachi tables, which could be fun if you’re with a group! I normally order a shrimp tempura roll with spicy tuna on top and a spicy tuna avocado roll. I do happen to like the shumai they have as well! Another roll that really is one of my favorites is the matsuri roll. It’s a roll that’s deep fried and crispy topped with spicy tuna. Really good! Sakaya is really easy and quick. Pretty reasonably priced as well!

had a relatively speedy meal here before heading down south~ everything came as expected, the pieces of the rolls were decent sized– super thankful for that! we loved the yellowtail and scallion yummm we also got the chicken yaki udon to share~ nothing special, it was tasty but i probably wouldn’t get again since it wasn’t very authentic. overall, fantastic spot! if i’m in the area again, i would not mind stopping by again. ambiance was good and our waiter was very friendly and helpful :)

Really great food and atmosphere. The staff is friendly, and efficient. We are a family of 4, with two young kids. It’s kid friendly when you go early enough(we went at 5pm).its one if our favorite local hibachi spots.

Long black hair found in one of my sushi rolls. Two of the rolls ordered were mixed up and falling apart, so not sure how to differentiate them or if they were correct. I used to frequent this location when it was Hokkaido, so I thought this would be the same quality. Unfortunately, it was not. One star for a good Green Dragon Roll, one star for the good miso soup.

Awesome place. Beautiful inside. Great rolls. Do not leave without having the Fluke Carpaccio, Bay City Roll & Montauk Roll! Great glass of Oregon Pinot Noir & Magnums of Sapporo. Friendly service. $ 75 not including service per person for splitting and appetizer, six rolls and two rounds of drinks… not badly priced.

No worries with this local sushi restaurant. Fish is super fresh and the service is first rate. If you are not satisfied with your dinner, you probably ordered something stupid.

I went because someone at work recommended it for lunch. Nothing insanely great about it. Id go back if a group of us were going but I wouldn’t go back on my own or suggest it again myself. Lunch deals were pretty good, service was meh and kind of slow.

This is American-Japanese restaurant. I kind of knew this is not authentic Japanese restaurant by looking at the menu and photos on Unilocal, but I went there anyway because rating on Unilocal was good. Food was so-so. Fish seemed fresh. Blueberry mojito was awful. Wait staff were nice, and each staff pay good attention to not only the table they are serving, but other tables, too. Ambiance was not my taste, but it looked like they were trying to make fancy atmosphere. I didn’t like the bluish lighting because everything look pale. If your seat is by the window, you won’t be affected by the blue light. The water fall in the restaurant was nice. The bad thing happened in the end. Before leaving the restaurant, I used ladies room and I was sure I locked the door. However, I didn’t realize the lock was broken and a girl opened the door while I was using a toilet. That was embarrassing. I told a hostess about the broken lock, so hopefully the lock is fixed by the time they open today.(4÷14÷2014)

Last night, we decided to dive in and get some serious sushi.(I am back to eating Fish!) My boyfriend suggested this place because of the quality of the fish. The hostess is so welcoming and the décor is very nice. There was a lot of people there and they were all really happy on a Saturday night. We ordered Tuna wrapped in tuna(Kamikaze appetizer) and it was really good quality fish. I tried the Montauk Roll and the Rising Sun Roll and both were delicious. I also love the brown rice option! The sushi was a bit pricey but you are definitely paying for prime fish, good service, and a nice atmosphere.
