We took m y grandson and great granddaughter for dinner. My 14 year okd grandson loves tappan cooking. He wasnt disappointed. The steak was good as were the vegetables and tempura. This is ny favorite tappan restaurant in Albuquerque.

We came here to celebrate my daughter’s graduation because to me going teppan means celebration and it definitely felt that way. Our cook was fabulously entertaining and the food was delicious(especially the fried rice). The atmosphere is very pleasant and tranquil and the bathrooms were nice and clean(bonus points for me).

A very C+ place food wise with some extra flair to try and hide the lack of quality ingredients. The prices are nice and the service is on top of everything. Fun once, no reason to return. Thanks place.

Serious management issues at this location! Placed an online order this afternoon to be picked up at 4:40pm…still waiting 45 min later for my small order(2 sushi rolls and 1 order of sashimi). I would recommend not using Azuma’s online ordering app, as they require payment with your order, and you may want to leave when you find your order is not only«not» ready at the promised time… but still«not» ready an hour later. Ridiculous!

Delicious. If you have a group the grill is great, always a fun little show while your foods cooking. We opted to share our meal only $ 7 extra(not bad at all for what you get) we chose the scallop option. The meals includes miso soup, a light salad(get the ginger dressing) fried rice, and noodles along with your meat option The chef seemed very accommodating to everyone at the table, so if you have a request don’t be shy . I checked in when I got there and got dessert on the house ! Their plum ice-cream was amazing! Also the plum wine is yummy. Apparently plum is my go to, but it’s delicious so try it . Overall a yummy date night. Thanks. Ps the bathrooms were very clean, always a plus

I have found the sushi and sashimi to be good quality with decent variety. One of my favorites Is Uni,(sea urchin), which when they have it is good quality and fresh. Have not found a bad roll here, but they can be a little pricey but not bad given the quality and presentation.

They get four stars for the atmosphere. It’s laid back. Overall, their food gets 2.5 stars. Their best menu item is the Azuma taco sushi. It is amazing. The other sushi options are not that good. It’s all about the rice and the roll. The rice they use in the sushi rolls is mushy. The hibachi section is fun and great for special occasions or to bring your kids. They get four stars for the hibachi experience.

My husband and I decided to go out to dinner for New Year’s Eve. I m glad we did. We arrived right on time because just a few minutes later, literally, the place began filling up. We were seated immediately. The food was great! The drink cocktails(made with sake) were wonderful. We plan to go back this weekend. This is an awesome place for a romantic dinner(in the booth area) or for a more«social» dinner.

Azuma Sushi & Teppan — Albuquerque, NM — Uhoh. I still need to review the other location on San Mateo, because my experience there was far better than the experience at this location. My work had their Christmas party here this year, and days before I had gone to dinner with my coworkers at a different place nearby. I longed for Azuma, and when we decided to have it there I was super excited. The whole thing was completely ridiculous. We were seated quickly, which was super nice, but we had a couple of husbands running late, and we told our waiters we would need a few minutes. Instead, the waitress runs by, grabs drink orders for everyone, and starts trying to take orders. Everyone finally arrived, my husband barely had 2 minutes to sit down and look at the menu before we had to get our orders in. Salads and drinks were rushed out. I couldn’t even order an appetizer because of how fast the waitress took orders and ran off. A few minutes later, our teppan chef comes out. He has no personality at all. He does the normal lighting of the grill and all, but is not performing like the other chefs at all, in fact, he pretty much just came out, cooked(not well), and left. The rice had no flavor, vegetables were barely cooked and still mostly raw(how do you even manage that?), noodles tasted over cooked, and then when it came to the meat is where it got really bad. Scallops were overcooked and turned to rubber, all med. rare states were borderline well done. Chicken was overcooked. It was a disaster. I’m glad my work footed the bill, though I am sorry they had to pay so much for one of the worst meals I’ve ever been served at any place ever. If I had to pay 60 for the poor excuse of a dish we were served(the app being the best tasting thing… deep fried tempura), I would have been pretty upset. We won’t be back here. We will try the original location again, because that one deserves a 5 star review, but it will take some serious convincing after how poor this location was.

We hadn’t been to Azuma for a while, and it’s one of my husband’s favorites, so we decided to stop in for dinner. On a Saturday at 7:30pm, we were worried it was going to be packed. While it was busy, there was no one else waiting to be seated when we came in. The young guy at the host stand said all of the teppan tables were full, but if we wanted to wait a few minutes, we’d be seated at the next available table, so we decided to wait(we only go for the teppan tables). After about 10 minutes of waiting, a party of five came in. After another 10 or 15 minutes, a table became available, and the guy took the party of five back first, but didn’t acknowledge my husband and I to follow, even though we had been there first. Usually if multiple parties waiting are going to be seated at the same table, they take you all back together. Confused, we were left waiting because we weren’t sure if he meant us to follow or not. He came back, saw us looking confused, and explained that two of the people who were sitting at the table previously hadn’t left yet. I thought that was odd, because they usually wait for the entire table to be cleared and cleaned before seating anyone. Then, a woman who I think was the manager or owner, came and took us back. Lo and behold, they seated us at the same table that the party of five was seated at, and even though there was indeed a party of two from the previous table still lingering, there were also another TWO empty seats.(No one left from the teppan area after the party of five was seated, so it was clear there had been enough room for all of us to begin with.) Everyone’s drink orders are taken, delivered, and the food orders are taken. We wait for our chef. Wait a little more. Wait a little longer than usual. Finally, our chef makes his way to our table. He checks everyone’s order. He starts up the grill, and tries to show off by flipping the eggs for the fried rice on his spatula like the chefs usually do. He misses the first one and it lands on the edge of the table, splattering one of the other diners. Tries it again, misses. And again, and again. He gives up on the eggs. He cooks the rice, cooks the noodles, then starts on the entrees. He keeps trying to juggle the salt and pepper shakers and dropping them(one almost hit a fellow diner but luckily it didn’t). Usually, the chefs move with fluidity and keep a good pace, but our chef was incredibly slow. Instead of cooking multiple entrees at once, he cooked one at a time, taking longer than usual on each. He kept stopping to check the orders constantly. We could tell he was new(and our waitress confirmed it when we were leaving), and I know it’s tough when you’re just starting out at something, but he didn’t seem ready to be out on the floor. I ordered shrimp, my husband ordered salmon. My shrimp was the first item to be cooked, and my husband’s salmon was the last item to be cooked(along with another diner who ordered the salmon). I was completely done with my dinner(as were most of the other diners who had all been served their food already) and my husband had long since finished his rice, noodles, and vegetables before the chef even put my husband’s entrée on the grill(for a while, my husband was worried that the chef had forgotten about him). Oh, and my husband ordered an extra side of fried rice, which the chef divided among the other diners by mistake before we could stop him, despite the fact that the chef kept checking and rechecking the orders. My husband didn’t want to make a fuss about it, so we let the waitress know and she kindly took the charge for the extra rice off the bill. While the food was good as usual, it’s clear that some of the staff needs more training. There is no reason that my husband and I should have been left up at the front while the party that came in after us was seated first, even though there were enough empty seats that we all could have been seated at the same time, no reason that my husband should have to wait until the rest of the table is done eating before he is served, and the chef shouldn’t take nearly an hour from start to finish cooking for the table. Despite our favorite chef being at this location, he can’t always be at our table, so I may have to insist to my husband that we go on hiatus from this location and hope they get their act together. Maybe we’ll drive a little further and go back to the original location in the meantime so he doesn’t have withdrawals from the teppan food he loves.

Yummy sukiyaki steak at azuma’s. Great service and very friendly hosts. There wasn’t any wait to get seated and the atmosphere was excellent. The wait to get in wasn’t as long or bad as the original on San Mateo. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my time here. You have two options for seating. 1. The grill 2. Dinning area I suggest the grill if it’s not busy. You have your food made fresh in front of you and you have some great entertainment from the chef. There is always other with you at the grill and most of the time are friend sly and will strike up a conversation with you. If that’s not your style then you will want the dining area where you are seated at a table. I can’t comment on the sushi as I highly dislike seafood of any kind. Sorry Overall I plan to be back in the future here.

Made reservations and were seated right away. I would say it’s a must if you are more then 2 people. Majority of our party got sushi so we sat in the restaurant not Tepan. The one person who got Tepan had to wait a very long time and honestly was not the best, I think it’s better to her Tepan at the grill when you don’t it’s made in the kitchen and not as delicious. The sushi cuts were perfect, generous and the perfect pieces. I got the 911 sushi roll and it was decent, I’m not a fan of green chili with sushi. We also got a tuna roll, unagi, and a scallop roll. All of them we’re also great. I got the green tea ice cream, thank to my Unilocal check in and I wasn’t really a fan but it was a nice free offer :) Will come here again and only get sushi or only get Tepan.

My husband and I are from the east coast, and you can find some pretty awesome sushi over there! We have lived here for 3 years and I have been hesitant to try the sushi! Azuma was the first place we have tried, and we were pretty impressed. First, the décor is very nice. We felt like it almost felt as extravagant as some of the sushi places we have visited in big cities, like Vegas! It is a very nice atmosphere to eat. As far as the sushi, it was good, not the best but not the worst we’ve ever had. The most unique roll we tried was the Aloha roll. We haven’t had a roll like that anywhere else. It has pineapple and cream cheese in it and then is actually deep fried so it is served warm. The kissing roll would have been my second favorite. My husband’s second favorite was the New Mexican Roll. Tasting Green Chile in sushi was pretty unique. We tend to like extravagant sushi with lots of sauces and crunchies on top, and we thought that was an area that was lacking. As for service, alone I would give that 2 stars. I had to wait FOREVER to get my water refilled! But with the rest of the experience I still think overall it was a 4 star experience!

Seated at the teppan side for an hour and still no chef… Can we eat sometime tonight? Okay, so after loooooooooong uncomfortable wait, the chef finally showed up. He did a great job catering to all 11 of us with a fun showmanship. The food(filet & lobster) was delicious-though filet tasted a bit like liver… The fried rice & noodles were amazing and my 3 year old gobbled them up. I even caught a shrimp in my mouth. That was totally unexpected They got me a plate of green tea ice cream and both sides of the grill sang for me which was pretty cool. And in the end, only after the whole show is done and we got the bill they told us they don’t accept groupon on Fri/Sat. That was the only reason we came here tonight. We had two groups in our table with groupon. Very dissatisfied and angry at this tricky tactic. Not cool at all. I would give food 4 stars but because of their service and sleazy trickery /dirty business tactics(1000 other customers fell for it too so you can’t say it’s my fault for not reading«fine print») I would have to give 2 stars overall.

Dinner and a show, anyone? Came here with the family on a weeknight. We sat at the hibachi bar. Everyone ordered something for the grill… except me. Sushi only, please! Everyone was quite shocked, but whatever. The sushi ain’t bad here. You’d expect worse from a place that has to ship it into the high desert from god knows where. I also ordered the edamame with the spicy sauce on it. Big mistake. Edamame is supposed to be eaten with your fingers, and despite the sauce tasting good, it was a gooey mess. The hibachi stuff was awesome, full of knife cuts, hand flips and food everywhere. The fried rice was the best fried rice I’ve ever had, possibly because I got to see it made in front of my eyes. The fried noodles were also awesome. Y’all gonna be fat after eating here. The meats cooked on the hibachi grill were also awesome. Overall a fun experience. Tons of food. You’ll have leftovers.

Wow this place is the definition of a Tepan restaurant! Your thinking oh but Azuma has been around for along time off San Mateo. Though that is true this new local puts the original to shame! There is more spacious seating an extremely more modern style and super friendly staff! I had the ribeye and it was delicious! Cooked with a heaping serving of mushrooms and served with all your typical Tepan treats. Also I had to sample some sushi which was the Pink Lady roll. It was quite tasty it had that FRESH taste. You know the taste you get at most authentic sushi places where fresh fish is if the plenty. It was some of the better sushi I have had in Albuquerque. This Azuma has taken over for my Tepan cravings! We will be back numerous times I’m sure. Remember to call ahead if you plan on eating after 6pm and don’t forget the sake bombs!

Mmmmm. From the miso to the entrée, this place is oh so tasty. The atmosphere inside is super high end and nice, the tables for teppan are spacious, and the servers are quick and helpful. Our chef was Alejandro and he was fabulous. Ever been so full you could burst, but it was just so good you wanted to keep eating? That will happen to you here! I had the teriyaki chicken– perfectly cooked and seasoned! The fried rice was among the best I have ever had, and Im stoked to have leftovers for tomorrow. I think this is our new location; it’s so nice inside and our food reminded me of when the other location opened. Tasty, tasty, tasty. We will be back! If you come, ask for Alejandro– he’s awesome!

This location opened just a couple of weeks ago. We are frequent visitors of the San Mateo location and were excited this one finally opened. The wonderful experience begins the moment you walk in the doors, the décor is BEAUTIFUL. My girls and I sat at the sushi bar as usual and ordered a couple of our favorites. The spicy edamame is must have. Followed by a Monkey Ball roll which comes fried, and the 911 roll, which comes on a plate of flames. I meant to take pictures but was far too excited to eat. Kid’s teriyaki chicken with rice and a fresh cucumber salad. We love talking to. the chefs and watching them create delicious art out of food. Azuma is and will more than likely remain our favorite sushi restaurant. We have never had a less than spectacular experience every single time we come. Congratulations on the new location!
