A note to my homies of the furry persuasion: bring thine mustache to this joint, pronto, and order up a Latte Lechera. I’m battling the second month of a full-on beard and I’m not really enjoying the experience; it’s itchy and distracting and a lot of stuff gets stuck in there, which can be ugly. Usually. The Latte Lechera, on the other hand, is just better with a ‘stache. Why? The coffee itself is a familiar concoction of espresso, cocoa and chile, but it’s balanced with really salty crema. So when I sip, the coffee lands in my mouth and the crema sits on my upper lip. It’s so awesome, licking that stuff up. It’s like sea salt crystals on a chocolate caramel. Prepare to be swooned. Appropriately tucked away and off-the-beaten-path, you’ll need to get directions on the Unilocal app, but the minute you open the door you’ll be astonished by the breadth and vintage warmth of this venue, and that’s really what it is, a venue which I truly hope can be filled with the sounds and voices of local musicians, poets and other performers. The owner has a background in theatre, here’s a game for you and your friends: be the first to spot Shakespeare’s bust. This is absolutely my go-to when I’m in Uptown and I’m looking for a great place to work or catch up with a friend. I’m fine with the simplicity of the menu, just empanadas and a few sandwiches. Las Amapolas is lovely, and just a tad breathtaking.

I ate at Las Amapolas and had the most scrumptious homemade empanadas, both sweet and savory. I had an amazing Earl Grey London Fog beverage that was smooth and creamy. The café has an intimate and welcoming atmosphere that made me feel warm and cozy. The art work and interior design elements are absolutely gorgeous. I look forward to returning to this wonderful coffee shop to try more empanadas and coffee drinks!

Excellent coffee and tea place with a neighborhood feel — quite welcoming. Great place to pop in to grab a cup, or to stay and enjoy. Specialty coffees are superb. Empanandas? Ya, this’ll become a habit. In the area, Starbucks and Flying star are such a chore — Las Amapolas is a welcome alternative.

I have to admit, I’m a bit divided about this place. Perhaps if they improve on a few things I will give them a better rating. The ambiance is beautiful, but I feel confused as to what exactly this business is. There’s a small sign that says it’s a coffee shop, but then the decals on the windows say that it is an event rental space… if you are trying to be both, I wouldn’t; it’s confusing. The drinks are excellent and the empanandas are decent. I think this place could really take off if just a few things get tweaked. 1. Pick an identity and stick to it. 2. Figure out some operational basics(have the customer pay, then make the drink). 3. Have at least some business cards printed up and always available to the customer. 4. I think you would REALLY benefit from some sort of loyalty program. I really hope that some changes get made and I can start to frequent this establishment.

Definitely the hot new coffee shop on the block! This place is not only eclectic and artsy but also serves up some mean coffee! This is the only coffee shop that houses drinks like Café Cubanos, Lechera Lattes, Ojo de Dioses, Mexican hot chocolates, and soon to come Café de Olla! The sweet guava and cream cheese empanada is delectable. For a savory bite I recommend the green chile chicken empanada. I can’t wait for the musical events that will be held here. This is a women owned business with incredibly sweet and welcoming employees. This place definitely deserves 5 stars!
