Sara is amazing! I have crazy curly hair and she did such an awesome job. So happy I found my new person.

Whew. I can’t tell you how hard it is to find a stylist that knows how to cut and style curly hair. Not only does Sara know how, but she excels! I’ve had three amazing cuts from her and she also has done a great job on highlights for me as well. I have fine, naturally curly hair that’s prone to frizz. And the best part for me… I come out of her salon looking great. In the past, every stylist and I mean EVERY stylist did not know how to deal with curly hair styling. I would come out looking like a poodle or an 80’s rocker (no offense if you’re into that look). I almost always had to go home, wash my hair and restyle it. Sara actually has my hair looking wayyyy better than I could ever do myself. And she’s got a laid back easy to talk to personality as well, so it’s always fun chatting with her. If you have curly hair run, dont walk, and go see Sara right now!

Sara is an artist with hair. Putting your hair in someone else’s hand takes a lot of trust, and she rewards you ten-​fold.

I heard that Sara (the owner) specializes in the curly-​haired folk (like me), and she came highly recommended. So I decided to give her a try. I’ve never been able to control the «frizz situation» when I wear my hair curly without making my curls crunchy and heavy with gel. So that was the challenge… and Sara passed with flying colors!
The salon is small, off of Richmond and Central in Nob Hill. The whole downstairs space is one styling station, plus a waiting area and restroom, so it feels very intimate. It’s well kept and modern, and it was kinda nice that it’s not crowded with people.
I felt like while we were discussing what I liked and disliked about my current hair style, Sara really listened and actually got it. #CurlyHairProblems. Throughout the wash/​cut/​style process, she walked me through what she was doing and tried to make it instructional for me to duplicate at home. She really catered the styling tips to what is practical for me to do on a daily basis. She didn’t push products or upsell me on anything either, which I appreciated. And she gave a killer head massage!
The «women’s cut» was about $ 65 including tip, which is more than I would normally spend, but honestly it was worth it to get things under control! My curls looked great when I walked out of there — the cut and the styling were both on point. It was one of the only times when I didn’t want to go home right away and re-​wash/​re-​style after leaving the salon. Sara for the win!

Sarah really knows how to cut hair based on the type of hair you have. I used to just cut my curly hair short to keep it from being messy. When I go to Roots, I leave with a great cut that stays neat without being boringly short. A bit more pricey than a barber shop, but if you want something more than a «#2», it’s well worth it.

Growing up in Albuquerque I hated my hair. It was long, curly and usually untamed. No one REALLY understood my mixed curly hair. Fast forward 15 years later (with plenty of terrible hair products, hair cuts and even super damaging relaxers) I have learned to love my hair. And, Sara has only help validate loving my curly locks. I leave every visit with new usable tips for keeping my hair healthy and how to rock new looks. She never up sells with products, it is all about the cut, meeting you where you are at and meeting your hair care goals. I am just so thankful Sara has brought her hair expertise and business acumen back to New Mexico.

While I was in NM I had to stop by and see the very talented Sara, at Roots Salon. If you struggle with the frizz or unmanageable hair you will be very thankful to see this lady. Actually whatever kind of hair you have you will love her cut.
The cuts are excellent, but my saving grace has been her advice on how to use products to keep my wild curls manageable. And it doesn’t require any overpriced products.
On a recent trip to Mexico I was the only person in our group that didn’t have mile high hair/​afro due to the humidity. All of my travel partners were so jealous and were dying to know my secret!

Fantastic little hair salon for an intimate experience. Sara knows hair, especially curly hair, and she can bring out the best in your new ‘do. She took the time to understand what I wanted and then showed me exactly how to do it at home. She saw right away that I had some color issues and corrected them without forcing me into a pricey or time intensive service. She offered me product but recommended a less expensive version, too. She explained every step of my cut and style along the way (including prices) so I wasn’t surprised at the end. Also, the head massage during the shampoo was fantastic. I love my new cut and I will definitely be making Roots my regular hair salon!

Sara is absolutely amazing! She is a true artist and very passionate about her craft. I have learned so much from her about my hair since she started cutting my hair. I feel great every time I leave Roots and fell in love with what she does ever since she first got a hold of my «roots».
I am a regular client that goes in every three weeks, and she always has the same great energy, providing a fantastic experience on a consistent basis. Sara also recommended the best product I have ever used, it is not expensive and works wonderfully with my sometimes challenging wavy/​curly hair.
