Came in here for lunch one day. The young lady that was not customer service friendly at all. It seemed like she didn’t want to even be there. Not a good image for this business, the food was just ok and it took forever.

What a mess. I ordered food from D&C on Grub Hub. Two and a half hours later, and after I called and cancelled my order because the wait time was just too absurd, the food arrived. The delivery man was very nice, frantic, and stressed and because he proved to me the food was still warm, I accepted it and he told me that his manager would call me in 30 minutes and give me a 20% discount. The manager calls and begins with«you wanted me to call you?» Keep in mind, I had already spoken to this person multiple times checking on my LATE order. They then informed me that discounts were only available on future orders because«the computer» wouldn’t let them discount my order. I start to get mad when people flat out BS me. So anyway, I promised them that I would never order from them again(the food wasn’t even good, btw, I threw it out) and that I’d be sure to write them a negative review. I am following up on that promise. Don’t bother with delivery(it’ll take 2+ hours) and the food isn’t good enough for pick-up either.

I ordered take out twice from here. The kung pao chicken is really good and fried rice without soy sauce was also good.

Great deal for the 7 piece chicken wings and huge side of fried rice for $ 7. If ever order again, that’s probably the only thing to get. Wonton soup didn’t have a grain of salt, crab wontons weren’t fresh, and from their thai menu, the red curry looked good, but tasted all wrong, didn’t finish it.

The food wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t good either! Here is a breakdown of our order… Kani salad… I love kani salad and this one was gross! First of all there was barely a ½ cup of crab stick(fake crab) which I think is poor for the $ 6 price. Secondly, it tasted like it was covered in mayo with some green onion mixed in and the thrown on some(poorly shredded and unappetizing) iceberg lettuce. It had no celery, roe, or flavor! I have never had it served over lettuce before, but I wouldn’t have minded had the lettuce not been gross! Miso soup– the miso soup was ok, not the best flavor but acceptable. Spring rolls– these were greasy and had little flavor. General tsos chicken(lunch special) — first of all they forgot the egg roll, the rice was very mediocre at best(very mushy). The chicken was fine but nothing fantastic. They only gave us one fortune cookie, and it didn’t even have a fortune inside! Overall, there are wayyyy better places in the area. I will be going back to Good Luck Chinese for our weekly Chinese takeout!(We only switched bc I wanted miso, but it so wasn’t worth it!)

Haven’t actually eaten yet, ordered at seven pm and it’s now nine thirty. First they were very busy and the food was ten easily forgivable minutes late. Second problem though was my pescatarian girlfriend couldn’t eat because her shrimp order was sent as chicken. The redelivery was promised in twenty minutes at eight PM… It’s now nine thirty. Called back and they had forgotten to send it out for redelivery. Now it will be ten pm by the time it arrives. That’s over three hours from order until the correct meal arrives. Still waiting… No clue if the food is any good yet.

They forgot our soup when we ordered delivery, i hate to call back for just a soup and we were not in town long enough to be «compensated». The food came within the scheduled time, the broccoli chicken was decent; the broccoli was not mushy nor overcooked. My drunken noodle dish was okay. I would probably not order out again from this place.

Ordered General Tso Chicken and received fried batter. NO chicken! Ive had bad before, but this is different. The sauce was great, but i was disgusted that all i was given was fried batter. Absolutely unbelievable that you would serve people this, ESPECIALLYSINCEYOURMENUSTATES«All white meat» how about any meat? First time reviewing on Unilocal, but i this was just unacceptable. Delivery was fast, food was hot, sauce was good, but i didn’t receive my egg rolls even though i specifically added a note to deliver them.

We have enjoyed Dave & Chung’s carryout/delivery many times, since moving in nearby several years ago. When our Chinese craving hit tonight, I looked up the menu online and my search came across several recent unfavorable reviews. After reading a few, I nearly tried a new place but then realized the disservice I would be doing to my good friends Dave and Chung by skipping to a new spot without even giving them another chance. Due to that, I have crawled out of my reviewing cave and wanted to leave a quick note on tonight’s dinner. We got our usual order, which was ready within 15 minutes, and here are my thoughts: crab wontons — tender and delicious(I was nervous about the previous reviews that they were tough), hot and sour soup — a little less flavorful than usual but not in an offensive way, crispy eggplant(by far our favorite thing there) — they were the perfect pillows and sauce was great, orange chicken — tender and citrusy(would have preferred more crunch but still great) and then free beef fried rice(yum!) D&C is great, quick Chinese food. It is certainly a different realm of quality and style from Peking(go there!) but it is one of our favorite comfort food spots. I do recommend picking it up if you want it sooner because delivery can take longer.

STAYAWAY! I do not know how anyone can write a good review of this place. One word — disgusting. Ordered from here for the first time after receiving a menu at my apartment door. This is really just bad mall food court Chinese. The cream cheese wontons were so hard to chew. Clearly just bought frozen and dumped for too long in a deep fryer. The pan fried meat dumplings were definitely deep fried. They had not been steamed and much like the wontons were as hard as a rock! I ordered the Kung Pao chicken dinner platter. The egg roll was gross and overly greasy. The Kung Pao chicken was not very good and tasted like a greasy mess. My boyfriend ordered the General Tso Chicken and again, just awful and not flavored well. I will not order from here again and will definitely need a week to get the grease out of my system. Just gross.

We’ve been ordering from Dave & Chung’s consistently and loyally for 12 years now. Tonight marks the end of an era. We ordered our standard Home Style Tofu. It showed up shriveled, chewy and paper-thin. Husband deemed it «inedible.» And this is a man who would eat the sole off a shoe. Also — never one to complain/send food back(he leaves that to his wife) — he *called* up to complain about the dish. The response? «Oh, yeah. Sorry about that. A lot of other people have called about our tofu dishes lately. We recently switched suppliers, and the quality of the tofu has gone way down. I’d offer to send you a replacement, but it would taste the same.» Oh. REALLY? If the quality sucks so bad ANDYOUKNOWIT, don’t serve it. Additionally: if the quality sucks so bad ANDYOUKNOWIT, switch suppliers. And: I wasn’t complaining about THETASTE. There are way too many Chinese joints to waste any more time on this place. Sure: for 12 years they rocked. But when the rubber hit the road, the buck was passed. And for die-hard customers, that’s all it takes.

I’ve been searching for a great take Chinese restaurant since moving to the area in February. After many failed attempts, I had nearly given up. That is, until I tried Dane & Chung’s last night. I ordered the cashew chicken dinner combo, egg drop soup and crab cheese wontons. Ordering was quick and easy with a 30 minute estimated delivery time. To my pleasant surprise, less than 20 minutes later a friendly delivery man rang my doorbell. My dinner was pipping hot and all of the extras I requested were in the bag. The cashew chicken was definitely the best I’ve ever had. The chicken was chopped into perfect bite sized pieces and the coating way light allowing the amazing flavor to shine. The fried rice was also very good and a healthy portion too. I’ve already recycled all of the other area Chinese menus … Dave & Chung’s is all I need!

Ordered from here based on MacRae O’s review. Its tough to give Chinese delivery more than a 3 star rating. That said, Dave & Chung’s gets 4 stars! Quick delivery, piping hot food, and it was even tasty. What more could you ask for in Chinamerican delivery food? Oh yeah, reheats well too which is the bane of many other delivery joints.

As a vegetarian, I find it hard to get good variety at some Chinese take-out spots. This place has some good vegetable and tofu dishes, but I love that they actually have vegetarian dumplings and their hot and sour soup is made without meat. I have never had anything delivered from them since I live on the same street, it is close enough for me to walk there. But, the items I’ve had to-go have been great. The packing when I picked up wasn’t perfect and the dumpling sauce spilled in the bag. I would have been more upset if I didn’t have dumpling sauce at home. The dumplings were almost perfect, but the dough was a little thick in parts. It was just a different style that I know some people prefer. I really enjoyed it, but it wasn’t my favorite type. The hot and sour soup was exceptional. It wasn’t too watery or too salty. There was a large quantity of actual ingredients, so the soup turned out to be quite filling. The tofu is cooked the way I like it and well-seasoned. Overall, all of the food and sauce has a nice trend of being less salty than other places. Even the dumpling sauce had a more sweet and less soy/sodium taste to it. It is a nice break from the killer salt of other take-out places.

My wife and I are on a quest — a quest to find above average Chinese in the West End of Alexandria. Too many places are either bland or use suspect ingredients. Dave & Chungs is an decent option so far. Chicken with Cashews is quality(except the innate Chinese Restaurant desire to fill your plate with celery bits… not a fan.) Otherwise, the fried rice is great, and the Sauteed Mixed Vegetables is a crowd pleaser. A solid grade of «B»… The quest continues.

This is now my favorite Chinese delivery place in the area. Thanks to MacRae O’s review, I went in to get a menu last month. I have been ordering from them like a mad woman. I went in the other day to pick up food before going home, and the man upfront knew exactly where I lived based on what I ordered. Kinda embarrassing. They even have decent chicken wings, which is a rare thing in this area. There’s only one other Chinese place that I think can compete, but they don’t even deliver. I usually order some type of shrimp dish, and love the fact that the food has been fresh so far. Hopefully they won’t disappoint me in the future.

*3.33 stars* I had sworn off this restaurant because of a crab wonton-related offense last year. Actually, I haven’t ordered Chinese food in the area at all in quite a while. But after a visit to another business nearby, I realized that I was too lazy to cook dinner… funny how my sloth can easily nullify old grudges. I decided to give them another chance, and was pleasantly surprised. The crab wontons could still use much more fake crab, but the sesame chicken I ordered was great. It wasn’t the over-battered, gristle-ridden lumps you get from other takeout spots in Alexandria. D&C is now officially back in my good graces. One thing – there were oddly no veggies mixed in with my chicken. Usually, I would expect broccoli, but it was absent. I don’t know if this was an omission on their part, or if this is their current method of preparation.

A-Ok. Food comes out pretty fast for pick up or delivery and usually is very good. Truthfully this place is somewhere between 3 and 4 stars. The only reason I’m not rating it 4 stars is that a few times I’ve ordered food later in the night the food didn’t seem as fresh(never gotten sick or anything, just not as tasty). I recommend getting the ‘chicken and mixed vegetables’. It’s actually not listed on the menu but tastes very good for the price. General tso is hit or miss(yes i know general tso is not ‘real’ chinese hehe). I’ve also enjoyed the singapore noodles.
