Yeay, they’ve reopened. They are now called Samurai, but same location, most of the same staff and still amazing sushi. Chen is still the head sushi chef and if anything the rolls have gotten even better. The fish is still amazingly fresh and the rolls seem even bigger. Best part is they are having a special for the grand opening, so their already great prices are at a 20% discount. I’ve never had hibachi here but the three tables we saw partaking seemed to really enjoy it. This is such great news for everyone in the neighborhood who has been at a loss for good sushi for past few weeks.

According to their website — They are«temporarily out of business. Don’t worry though! We will re-open once our new location is secure!»

Hana Tokyo, you made me realize that dreams die hard when your doors closed for good recently. We seriously encountered another couple consoling each other, trying to figure out where else to fulfill their hibachi fix last Saturday night. MAYYOU R.I.P.

Hana Tokyo is hands down the best hibachi in the area! From the soup to the peanut dressing, the shrimp sauce, fried rice, and of course the Flaming Volcano, everything is top notch. Sadly, we called to make a reservation and they informed us they are having some leasing issues, but to join their mailing list for updates. Hopefully they figure it out soon b/c we tried Matsutake Hibachi near Ballston and it was TERRIBLE! Really made it even more apparent just how good/special Hana Tokyo is! Come back soon Hana Tokyo!

Service is great. Friendly hibachi chef. Teppanyaki is about what you expect in terms of taste and price; you’re gonna pay for the show and your mediocre meat. Can’t comment on the sushi or other entrees. It’s comparable to a Benihana… in fact I think the hibachi chefs are alumni, because they perform the same exact routine. This is the best teppanyaki place in the area, but for steak and other grilled food, you’re better off at a legit steakhouse… or a Korean bbq place.

It was great. I was the only one at the table who ordered sushi, the Fire Cracker Roll, and it was excellent. Everyone else ordered hibachi, and it to was excellent. The atmosphere is nice, and the service is great. Our cook was hilarious(as they should be!) I recommend this place, and would go again!

I was part of a group of 11 tonight at Hana Tokyo to celebrate a friend’s birthday. I’ve only indulged in sushi once post-pregnancy, so I was excited to stuff myself silly with some raw fishy goodness. Between my husband’s hibachi dinner and my sushi sampling, I feel pretty confident in rating Hana Tokyo at a solid 3 stars. The food, pricing, and service was all just«ok». The sushi was decent — definitely not the specialty here, and it shows in the wrapping of the rolls. My shrimp tempura roll was a little light on shrimp, sadly. My husband ordered the steak hibachi and we both were not impressed with the steak. It tasted like it was overcooked and was too chewy. He gave me about a third of his steak to eat and I only had a few pieces before returning the rest to him. Now, that all being said, we did like the salad(the sesame dressing is really great), the special«yum yum» sauce, the fried rice, and the(cheap) beer selection. The hibachi«show» was entertaining, but about what you’d experience at any other comparably priced Japanese hibachi restaurant.

All the people who work here are wonderful. The atmosphere is very peaceful and relaxing. My family and I have been coming here for a very long time. The best chefs to request are John and Hong. They know their stuff fast and fun. They put on a good show for the kids The owner is very nice and cares about your experience at his restaurant. Both the sushi bar and the hibachi are excellent !

While I regret dropping $ 55 on take-out…I will say this was damn good sushi. Very impressed with all of the special rolls we got. Loved my dragon roll. Great flavor. I will most definitely be back. While I waited for our order I watched the staff operate in the restaurant and they were very good in all aspects. We will be hitting up Hana Tokyo again for sushi… and maybe some hibachi next time!

One of the best Japanese restaurants in the area! We love Hana Tokyo and pretty much go there at least once a month. My husband loves the sushi and I like the chicken teriyaki. I am not a big fan of sushi but my husband says it is very fresh and delicious. He likes the tuna roll. I like the chicken teriyaki because it is cooked perfectly and comes with miso soup and a salad. We sit at the sushi bar and the sushi chefs are very friendly. Service is great and the wait staff are so attentive. Their dessert(fried ice cream) is really good too! Highly recommend this place both for the food and the service!

I had gone here a few times a couple years ago during lunch for their bento boxes, which were pretty decent. I recently took a Japanese co-worker there for lunch and immediately, the place smelled like stale grease. I guess the hibachi grill gets a lot of action and they don’t bother to give the place a good scrubbing. The chairs and tables were all a little sticky, like years of grease build-up had accumulated on every surface. It was a little gross. The sushi was okay but I will never go back because during our entire lunch, the hostess and sushi chef argued with each other aross the restaurant. I don’t care how good your food is(it’s not that great), arguing in front of customers is rude and completely unprofessional. Just because I don’t understand the language doesn’t mean I didn’t pick up that this was an argument. Take it out back.

It was aweomse! Had dinner, ordered the steak & scallops — very flavorful and not too much butter. My roommates had the filet & chicken and steak & shrimp — both very yummy as well, chicken wasn’t cooked too dry and steak was cooked to correct temp. Note: It’s only a few more bucks for filet but you get a wayyyyy bigger piece than the order of steak. Had Dragon Roll(Shrimp tempura and spicy tuna on top) — very yummy and fresh! Service was great — very attentive. Will definitely have to come back for lunch! — prices are like half of dinner

I enjoy Hana Tokyo from time to time whether it be for sushi or Hibachi. I am a fan of both. One of the things I like about the restaurant is that it is a small and intimate neighborhood joint with reasonable prices. Some hibachi places have gotten ridiculous with their pricing, so this place gets my vote. I typically get the filet and shrimp if I do the grill, and I always enjoy it for lunch or dinner. Depending on when you go, sometimes they can run a little slow. Other than that…4 Stars!

We celebrated my friend’s birthday this evening and utilized the two hibachi tables in the back of the restaurant. Service was great, cooks were fun and upbeat, food was EXCELLENT and I highly recommend. We had sushi, many hibachi dishes and all were fresh and cooked to perfection. The manager kept checking on us and wanted to make sure our night was a success. I would highly recommend for a dinner party. The room was private and we had fabulous time! 5STARS Hana Tokyo team and we will be back! Thank you for making Gina’s birthday memorable! Michelle Priesner

Ok, so this place is very tasty, but also very americanized. Don’t expect to get authentic bento boxes here or hibachi sauce. I mean I’ve never seen such a large piece of sushi or tray(bento box) in my life. It was like they had taken the x ray from honey I struck the kids and used it to supersize a bento box. Once, I’ve cleared that disclaimer out of the way… it’s a good place to visit. The hibachi was tasty, the service was quick and or hibachi cook was hilarious. He made jokes with our table and when he found out it was our colleague’s birthday, cracked jokes. The jokes included male pattern baldness, giving him less rice and vegetables(initially, don’t worry they gave him extract later), and trying to challenge him to a hibachi cooking contest. We were all laughing so hard that I got hibachi sauce all over my white coat. It was well worth the stain as I see it as a badge of honor. The food hear was delicious and we enjoyed the food so much that the x ray beam was also used on us because we felt ten times larger when we left the place. Really good food and great prices(9 – 11 for lunch) made this place a perfect afternoon lunch spot.

Boyfriend had never been to a hibachi place. So I began scouring Unilocal in search of one that would give him the experience I had come to love about hibachi. I came across Hana Tokyo and decided to give it a try. We got there around 7:30ish on a Saturday night and it was pretty busy. We waited maybe 5 minutes, as one table was finishing their meal. The servers clean up the tables SUPER fast! We were seated with a group of people around what appears to be a low bar. There is a grill in the middle(I’m explaining for anyone who doesn’t know what hibachi is). The server was quick to get everyone’s food and drink orders. The chef came out and greeted everyone. He was HILARIOUS! He kept us 100% entertained while he cooked. This would be a great place to take kids(not too young though). The food is excellent and the place is entertaining. Parking is easy, as its in a strip mall, so you have this huge ass lot right in front of you

Where do I start?. Lately, the service has been terrible. The wait staff have multiple tables to take care of and you can easily be forgotten. In the past month, they have increased all of the prices on the hibachi menu by $ 4, except for the hibachi chicken. The salad is drenched in sesame dressing not the traditional ginger dressing. The food quality is good but lately the portions have been getting smaller and smaller. They added mushrooms to the zucchini and onion to stretch them some more. At the end of the meal, they have been serving bean sprouts. I have visited this place at least once per month, and it saddens me to see prices increase while the portions are getting smaller. The sushi quality has also been just ok. This place is run by Koreans.

Your experience at Hana Tokyo, from an entertainment perspective, will be heavily dependent upon the random assignment of your chef. Some of them are hilarious and others are a bit washed up, exhausted and sad. But all of them will make the same joke about the little boy peeing on the fire. Every male in your life will laugh at this, be he 2 or 102. The prices are not cheap, but you get a lot for your hibachi meal. You start with miso soup, after a nice hot washcloth has been offered. It is followed by a small salad absolutely drenched in a ginger dressing. Then comes the show… Your hibachi chef with heavily encourage audience interaction and participation. You may find yourself exchanging awkward glances with your table mates.(Everyone sits at a table of eight and the meal doesn’t start ’til the table is full.) There is a very showy display of skills and at least one awkward knife drop or egg crack. Eventually you get some fried rice. Pace yourself, grasshopper, for you’ve still only just begun. The rice is followed by veggies, bean sprouts, and finally your meat. Serving sizes are large and steak is cooked to order, although you may have to remind the chef if you want it on the ends of the scale. Now you have your meat and you’re still working through your fried rice. Everything’s going pretty well. So of course this is the point at which you are forced by your chef to let him try to fling a piece of shrimp in your mouth. This is not an optional activity at Hana Tokyo. Trust me, I’ve tried to get out of it. If you’re female, he’s probably going to try his hardest to get it down your shirt. Good luck.

I love sushi. And now, because of Hana Tokyo, I love both maki AND nigiri. I have ordered takeout from here twice — the first time, I did not pay attention to what I ordered, so instead of maki, I got nigiri. Which was a good thing — I loved it. I had yellowtail and flounder. Flounder was good, but the yellowtail was excellent. I also had yellowtail and the Alaska roll maki. Again, yellowtail was excellent. Alaska roll was OK, but I think the avocado made it way too filling. Onto the gyoza and shumai. Both leave something to be desired — they were lacking in flavor. Which is too bad, because I love dumplings. The same man has taken my order twice, and is always super friendly(I think he may be the owner). I am not a huge hibachi fan, but would be willing to try it here if I knew someone looking for hibachi.
