Just moved to the area and still trying to find our«go to» Chinese place. I tried this place because it’s close to my house and the reviews were decent. We ordered the lemon chicken, szechuan beef, and pork friend rice. Price was comparable to the other place we tried. Portion sizes are good. The lemon chicken was 2 full breasts lightly fried, perfect and delicious. The lemon sauce is way better than most places. It is an actual lemon sauce, slightly sweet but still has that sour lemon bite to it. It is not that thick neon yellow lemon sauce you see at most places. The szechuan beef was the perfect amount of spice. I was pleasantly surprised because I didn’t tell them how spicey we wanted it and I was prepared for mild. The only reason I am giving 4 stars is because how long delivery took. We ordered at 4:15, not a prime dinner time or traffic time. They quoted a 45 minute wait. Seemed kinda long to us, and it actually came in closet to 50 – 55 minutes.

It’s too clean for a Chinese joint. I’m from Jersey City, NJ; I’m a city girl and I know what a fast Chinese food place looks like– hole in the wall, dirty floors, dirty tables, maybe some roaches, and dirty cooks. But do we care? No, because the food is delicious! However, this place is clean AND good! You may laugh, but I didn’t trust it because it was too clean. I’m glad I was proved wrong and found a place that can be clean and still have that flavor you think is authentic Chinese but it really isn’t(you’d know if you have Chinese friends that have invited you over dinner at their house). Anyway, we haven’t done dine-in but we have called for delivery, takeout, and pickup. We always see tables available but we are always rushing to stay and that’s why we call ahead and take it home. We’ve been satisfied with the time they take to make the food. The parking is great too because it’s located in the foxchase shopping center with ample parking. The people are nice and deserve a tip for delivery even though we live 2 minutes away. Their prices are ok, then again I could only compare to the street corner Chinese food restaurant I used to go to in NJ that sell an order of chicken wings with fries for $ 3.50. But the prices are reasonable for the location and again, the food is good. I have no complaints, therefore they get 5 stars, because it’s the closest flavor of Chinese food I can get to the urban city Chinese food in NJ. Try it for yourself! And if you complain, I invite you to try the Chinese food in my old hometown and then you could talk!

This is my go to spot for chinese take out if i’m out and about. They don’t deliver however their food is really good. Try the chicken wings with mambo sauce, very good. Also a big fan of their pork fried rice.

Really great hole in the wall Chinese place here right near Foxchase apartments — a huge plus for the locals who live in the complex. Would definitely come here over some of the chains that are right here. Small seating area, like any Chinese takeout place, but with a water cooler, which is nice. We had both beef and shrimp both of which were great quality and my shrimp had the perfect amount of spicy! Would certainly recommend!

Ordered chicken fried rice from this place tonight. It was absolutely disgusting. The chicken was left in huge chunks with big pieces of fat and the rice was clumped together.

This place has decent food. It taste alright if you’re feeling greasy noodles, which I occasionally do. The customer service has been bad. I’d give 1 star for customer service if I couldn’t give a 0. The last time I went there it was my wife’s first time and we were literally the only ones there and the lady was rudely rushing my wife. She asked her, «Are you ready?» 3 consecutive times. It’s not too clean of an environment and is pretty tacky. The only reason I didn’t give it a 1 star is because the food is what I expected — greasy mediocre Chinese food.

I will never order from this place again the menu prices are one thing but they quote you another price and secondly we ordered from there two separate nights one night the food was one price and the other time we ordered the same exact food and the total was a different price. Fraud at its finest

Me and my wife didn’t have high expectations when we came to eat here. So, we were expecting reasonable food. But they failed our expectation in every way. They put too much sugar in the food that we were unable to eat. Moreover, their food doesn’t look good.

Basic Chinese take-out. Plenty of parking and modestly clean store front. Con– duck was cold and dry. Travel 20 minutes away for roasted duck at Marks Duck House. Menu is very basic and caters to American style food.

I ordered shrimp egg foo young and egg rolls my mom last night, my mom got sick, it was so oily, and it had a few shrimp in it. Egg rolls were too hard to chew on it .no more Hong Kong.

So after reading all the reviews — thought I would try this place. It’s ok. I ordered spring rolls, crab Rangoon and Orange chicken with white rice. It took them 45 mins — which I probably wouldn’t have minded so much if I wasn’t hungry. The spring rolls were kind of oily with the cabbage. The orange chicken wasn’t crispy like I thought it would be. It was ok. And of course the white rice is white rice lol the upside is that they give you A LOT of chicken and rice and even the crab Rangoon is a lot. But I probably won’t try this place again. It’s just average.

I tried this place Fri night and I was surprised. Your meal is cooked to order. It was steaming hot! The fried rice was really good and the chicken and broccoli was tasty! Definitely will be my Chinese take out spot!

I am from the area, and by far, this has been the best and fastest chinese carryout I have been too. Now there is a lot of potential for improvement within the restaurant itself… but it’s Chinese carryout, I can’t really demand much. The food is good and always steaming hot! I always get lo mein and general tso, good flavor and large portions! This is my go-to restaurant whenever I want a good fast eat !

There was a week where my wife was out of town and I was forced into having to fend for myself in the lunch and dinner department. I decided that r Hong Kong express seemed like a great departure from the normal sandwich or burger lunch. I ordered from the lunch special menu, general tso chicken, which was supposed to include a soup. For 6.99 it didn’t seem to bad of a deal. It took about 10 minutes for the food to be ready. Left the restaurant and sat down to enjoy my general tso and miso soup… But the soup was missing. Pretty disappointing, but the general tso chicken helping was generous enough that I wasn’t even able to eat it all. The chicken was delicious and the fried rice was surprisingly good as well. There were vegetables and egg mixed in, one of the true testaments of Americanized Chinese food. Not a bad spot, wish I had the opportunity t taste the soup or even an eggroll, if it were anything comparable to the chicken I have a feeling I would not be disappointed.

I don’t like Chinese food, but my husband does. However, Hong Kong Express is the only place I actually enjoy — really! This is the same location as the one in Falls Church, off of Columbia Pike; I was surprised that they had another location that was close by. We ordered the fried dumplings(came with 8 pieces), Chicken Lo Mein, and Crispy Beef. The dumplings were good and had a nice solid chunk of ground meat inside the thick dumpling skin; it comes with a vinegar-y soy sauce, but I chose to dip it in in the regular soy sauce. The Crispy Beef was actually less saucy, but this place seems to give you more portion-wise — we had a hard time finishing it up! It was more sweet than ‘spicy,’ as the menu states, but there is a note on the menu where you can change the level of spiciness. I did enjoy the Chicken Lo Mein the best, with an extra dash of soy sauce. It was mighty tasty with the slivers of chicken and onions and the well-cooked noodles. Staff were friendly, and the place was clean. Definitely a place I would frequent if I’m craving for noodles and/or my husband wants Chinese! :D +Chicken Lo Mein +Crispy Beef

I am always skeptical of each Chinese food in the DMV area since I am from NY and we get some of the best fast food Chinese anywhere … in my opinion(and many others …) So when visiting a friend in VA, the recommendation was made to order from here I went straight to Unilocal to see what people had to say. I have to agree that this place is really good. The food was fresh and tasty! I ordered the crab rangoons which were really tasty and just the right amount of fried. I also really enjoyed the kong pao chicken and shrimp with asparagus … which I had with chicken fried rice. We also got an order of wings because everyone on here was talking about them. Reeeeallly good. Overall a great eating at home experience … very reminiscent of home.

My favorite chinese place to grab somethin on the go. It’s close to where i Live and tastes delish. I tried a chinese place in the strip market up the street and it didn’t compare. I’ve only tried a few different things, but they were all good.

The Hong Kong Express follows the same formula as every other carry out Chinese restaurant: a half dozen tables for those compelled to eat there, fading photos(of dubious origin) of some of their dishes, and a menu consisting of hundreds of selections(all made from some combination of maybe a dozen or so ingredients). However, the Hong Kong Express is a little cleaner, the staff is a little nicer, and their food is a little higher quality than most similar restaurants I’ve been to. I had the beef pepper steak. The onions and peppers where nicely cooked and where still crunchy. The beef was more tender than you usually receive from restaurants like this. The rice was less gummy than you often receive. The overall dish was also less salty. My only gripe is that I ordered it «really spicy,» but it came with only a hint of spice. A solid(American) Chinese take out!
