My husband and I were driving back to Dallas from a business trip to New Orleans and wanted to get some authentic Boudin before leaving Louisiana. We sure found the right place! Miss Betty makes the most mouthwateringly fantastic low country Cajun cuisine you can find. We had Boudin balls, Boudin links, gumbo, and cracklins — one more delicious than the other. If you are anywhere in Louisiana, make a beeline for Alexandria, and get yourself some good eats at Porky’s!

So I get it. When the restaurants a hole in the wall, walk up order joint you shouldnt expect 4 stars, but this place is not grandmas kitchen. Very disorderly and it could use some cleaning. Through the windows you’ll see theres crumbs all built up in the cracks of everywhere from all the fried items they sell. I got the gumbo. Decent price too. The lady was there my first visit and it was OK. Acceptable for resturant gumbo. Lots of meat and decent roux. My second visit was disappointing. Very. The big guy was there and I ordered gumbo again. This time I got the large cup expecting the same experience. Not so. My chicken was not pulled/shredded and there was only about 4 sausages in the entire thing. The chicken was still in literal whole pieces. I’m talking boneless thighs. I would’ve asked for refund but I ate on the job. Verry dissatisfied. I plan on never returning. In all fairness I hear the boudin and other Fried items are OK.

Great food, excellent boudin ball and gumbo. The old lady who works the drive through is quite sarcastic and rude. Once you taste the food there you’ll forget she was such a B!@&h!!!

My friend and I were driving back to Dallas from a holiday weekend in NOLA and wanted to eat somewhere besides your standard fast food restaurant on the side of the freeway. And we knew we wanted to eat somewhere in Alexandria because it’s literally the last piece of civilization until you get to Shreveport, which is 125 miles down I-49. So we checked Unilocal!and found this spot. I’m glad we did. It’s very different and the food we had was quite good. The restaurant itself is a small building without any indoor seating. It’s located in a questionable residential area, where some of the yards were littered with discarded furniture. It’s not scary but be forewarned, this isn’t a nice area. The meals are to-go only, and the only seating whatsoever is a dilapidated plastic picnic table outside. When we rolled into the parking lot, an older gentleman(who I assume if the proprietor) and a younger man were sitting at the table. They went inside and the gentleman patiently took our order as we asked about the various items on the menu, some of which weren’t available as he had run out. The food is all prepared fresh, including the gumbo which is made every morning. The boudin balls were excellent and perfect to fill us with greasy goodness after a night of heavy drinking. I wish we had more of an appetite for BBQ which featured prominently on the menu. The ettoufee pie I had was also quite good and very different. Overall, Porky’s is a great spot if you want something different, local, and authentic. The food is good and the experience is better than eating typical fast food. But be sure to call ahead. The owner keeps his own hours and leaves when he wants.

I doubt if you can find a better boudin! When there’s more meat than rice, well, there you are! Pulled pork was spot-on, too. This is a pick-up only place so we grabbed our bag of food and went to a local park and had a lovely picnic right in the middle of town. Definitely worth a repeat! Note: Skip the cornbread. It was touted as great, but I grew up on cracklin’ cornbread and this is not IT – too dry, few cracklin’s.

DELICIOUS, INEXPENSIVEFOODTOGO! What else is there in life to hope for? We ordered 2 gumbos, a jambalaya meat pie, a BBQ Po Boy and 3 boudin balls which totalled $ 24. I wish I would have ordered more food for later… I’m not a Louisiana native but in my opinion, everything was flavorful, not too spicy and served hot. The woman who took our order was a lively thing! It only added to the experience. I hope one day we will return!

Don’t be afraid to stop. We asked the woman behind the counter what was delicious and we were told pretty much everything is «off the chain» and after ordering a sampling of offerings, we agree. We tried the boudin balls, red beans and rice, gumbo, pork rib plate, crawfish pie, shredded beef bbq, and cornbread with cracklin. We were disappointed they were out of sweet potato pie so didn’t get to sample a dessert. Will come back next time we are in town. The place has a lot of character, especially the nice lady who works at the front — she is Off The Chain!

We stopped at Porky’s because of the great reviews. There is only window and drive up service. The food was absolutely delicious. Highly recommend boudin balls, rib plate, and red beans and rice with crackling cornbread.

On our way to Jazzfest, we were developing hunger pains and employed Unilocal to help us. Porky’s popped up and with the variety of BBQ and Cajun(you can even get tamales) we decided to stop by! Wowzers! You have to get at least one boudin ball and I promise it will be the best you’ve ever had or for sure in the top few! The gumbo is full of flavor and meat, no bite is bad(get with rice). Sliced brisket was moist and tasty. That being said, if your belly is craving meat while you’re standing at the window to order… go with the coche de lait(pulled pork) sandwich! It was full of smoke flavor and was cooked with perfect tenderness! Yummy! I can still smell it while I write :) This place is so good, the guy in front of me left the hospital to come get some food… no bull, he still had heart monitor patches on his chest and a patient wrist band! Enjoy!

This place is right on the outskirts of downtown. Kinda looked a bit sketchy, but I’d like to say, I was super satisfied and they were very accommodating! I got jambalaya with a side of potato salad, fried bread, string beans and crackling corn bread [swapped from reg corn bread by request] soooooo happy and my stomach of steel hooked it up!

Good olé boy attitude, he was very nice. I heard a couple 38 shots fired while I was waiting for my order and wanted to leave fast. The rib plate was lacking enough ribs, very sparse but had good flavor. The boudin ball was really tasty and I loved the Gumbo. I didn’t care for the pork-n-beans, they tasted like they were out of a can. My husband like the mustard potato salad. With a few minor changes this place would rock.

Gumbo loaded with meat, can get with or without rice. The 16 oz size is big enough for two meals! The tamale cheese it was good if you like sweet BBQ, slightly greasy :) but oh-so tasty! Service was quick.

This place is not much to look at, in fact my family wanted my husband to turn around. Boy am I glad we didn’t. This was one of the most amazing meals I’ve ever eaten. We had boudin, cracklings, ribs and sausage gumbo and ever hit of it was amazing. Served with southern charm and a smile.

OMFG! So good! A little salty on the spicy cracklins and red beans and rice with a BIG sausage link that were to die for delicious. Tamales topped with BBQ beef were great too and the cornbread was amazing. We over-ordered and ended up taking home enough leftovers to eat for 2 days! WELL worth the trip and Betty Lou is an amazing lady. It’s all take-out but there is ONE picnic table out front LOL and all the food was served so steaming hot that we fogged out all the windows in the car while eating lunch and had to run the defroster for 10 mins before we could leave.

LOVETHEFOOD!!! I went there because of the reviews on Unilocal and I found that the food and service was phenomenal. The cracklings were fresh and delicious. The gumbo was soooooo good. The food is like your grandmas down south home cooking and you can’t get any better then that! I will be a regular!

I do love me a good hole in the wall dining experience, and Porky’s qualifies. I have never eaten pretty much everything that they had available, so I tried two new things… a boudin ball and cracklins. I like the cracklins, but I like a functioning cardiovascular system more, so I will go easy on those in the future. They were crunchy and tasty; I could see getting totally hooked on those. The boudin ball was wonderful… rice, pork and spices balled up and fried… oh yeah, that happens! They had many goodies, such as crawfish pies, so I will return soon! No indoor seating that I could make out. There was a table available outside. There’s a drive-thru. Lot parking. Staff were friendly and helpful. Prices were reasonable.

Loved their cracklins. I’ve only had the processed, bagged stuff before, and I thought it was good… but real cracklins, ones that are mostly crunchy with the soft, melt in your mouth fatty part… well, they’ve ruined me for the bagged stuff. OK crawfish pie. Small, freshly fried. Étouffée inside, with only a couple scrawny crawfish tails. But good taste. Meh gumbo. It could have been the grease slick on top and the hunk of chicken fat in my bowl that turned me off, but the flavor just wasn’t there either. Drive thru or walk up only. Closes early. My Garmin Gladys was just as pissy this LA trip as last time, taking me in the wrong direction to an industrial business.
