Stopped here for a quick lunch on the road. So happy I did. Got a quart of above average chicken sausage gumbo and the best boudin ball I have ever had. I had to de-fat the gumbo with a few napkins but it was very good especially given the price. Combined it was about $ 11.50. Run by lovely people too. I recommend this place.

My friends and I came here and shared the gumbo, some cream cheese and pepper jack boudin balls, and cracklins. I didn’t love the gumbo, but the rest was amazing. The cracklins were by far the best I’ve had in my life, and really meaty. I preferred the cream cheese boudon balls to the pepper jack because of the creamy texture, but both were great. Despite the sterile, cafeteria-type atmosphere, this is a highly recommended stop if you’re making the drive between Dallas and New Orleans.

Bought some Gumbo, boudin links and cracklings. Chicken and sausage gumbo has no flavor. Tasted like hot water with chicken. Boudin plain taste, it’s eatable. Cracklings are over seasoned O well, should have waited till Lafayette

I may have been one of the first 50 to eat here and I have been a handful of times. I was excited about the plate dinners, since there close to my residence. I’ve had three different kinds and there always too salty. Salty doesn’t mean Cajun. The sides are not exciting(i.e corn, potatoes, roll) and for the price, the meal is lackluster compared to other plate dinners around alexandria. The tamales are very good though. Esp the deer and pork. We no longer buy crackling here because there is obviously an issue with the scale or weighing methods. The boudin links or obviously made from scratch and there good but not anything special. There is no smoked option which I prefer. I haven’t hade the cheesy boudin balls yet but I here nothing but good reviews. Overall is an O. K spot esp for a quick fix. Could use a lot more diversity as far as menu items go.

The boudin balls were incredible! We had the cream cheese boudin ball and the original. I loved the cream cheese one, but it definitely isn’t for those who don’t want theirs stuffed to the max w/cheese! These were boudin balls the size of TX. The gumbo was a different story. I was not a huge fan. It was a generous portion, but it was more like a thin, broth based soup rather than any gumbo I’m used to. The flavor was OK, but definitely not what I anticipated while en route to southern LA. We’d definitely go back for the boudin balls!

Wow. They know exactly what they’re doing here. We had the gumbo, cracklins, and a cream cheese boudin ball. The boudin ball was so freaking delicious. So glad this place exists!

Best boudin and cracklins in central Louisiana. Service is good prices are fair and don’t forget about the lunch plates; a little pricey for lunch but it’s worth it.

On our road trip we saw a sign for cracklin and stopped in for some breakfast. It was easy to find. The parking was accessible, paved and clean. It looked clean inside. The young Caucasian lady gave us samples of the cracklin and, oddly, deer and beef tamales. That was a plus! They were both good and flavorful. We got the cracklin since tamales were only sold my the half or full dozen. The cracklin was meaty, substantial in size, and flavored with a kick and not too salty. They also sold boudin but I’m not too familiar with that. We weren’t sure about cracklin pricing, seemed expensive but after a quick e-search seems like a reasonable price, 15 $ per pound. It made a great snack for the road and gift for our hosts! Who doesn’t like cracklin? Besides the girl who sold it to us! Lol!

I really don’t want to give this place less than five stars because I know it will sabotage the perfect rating. However… I cannot give a five star rating to a place with checkered flooring(it’s like you’re in an old fashioned ice cream parlor) with service that means food is delivered in a styrofoam container. The spices on my food were A.MAZ.ING. Id give it a five star rating if I didn’t feel guilty for that after the other factors came into place. Don’t let it influence you that i didn’t give a perfect rating. It was truly delicious. The cracklins’ had huge chunks of meat on them. I thought they would just be fried fat. Not so.

If you don’t feel like hitting the interstate to Billy ray’s, this is a nice hold you over. Guess it was end of day on Sunday so staff wasn’t as friendly as other reviews. Boudin was good and meaty and looking forward to trying each item on the menu.

If you’re looking for that southern hospitality that Louisiana is known for then this is the place! Very friendly staff. I recommend the deer tamales! Sure yummy. The cracklins are juicy, if that is even possible. They have some nice country music going and clean eating area.

I’m not an expert on boudin and cracklins, but I can hardly imagine them being better than here. Had a boudin link, pepper jack creole ball, and an order of cracklins. Now my mouth and belly are happy, and I can’t move! Added bonus? Absolutely awesome customer service from everyone here, who took great care of this crazy Californian who wandered in 10 minutes before they closed. Thank you for giving me such a warm welcome to Alexandria!

We had the Catfish Couvillion, Friday’s plate lunch special. It was EXCELLENT! Also very good boudin balls. This is a cute little restaurant and very clean. Nice addition to the area. Heard their tamales are good too. Can’t wait to try them!

We stopped here for cracklins on our road trip from Dallas to New Orleans. I have to say, this place has the BEST Cracklins!!! They have just the right amount of spice– not too hot– and a tad bit of sweetness– brown sugar I’m guessing? We will absolutely make a point to stop here again in the future! Highly recommend this place for their cracklins! Haven’t tried anything else.

I have visited this place twice, and had to take some goodies back to Phoenix, Az. The hog cracklins was«da bomb» seasoned nicely with cayenne pepper and fried to perfection. The deer/venison tamales was awesome, filled with lots of meat and less matsa; I ended up spending $ 65 bucks on 2 dozen of tamales(pork & deer; half dozen of pepper jack boudin balls, 11⁄5 pounds of cracklins and to fill my sweet tooth a pecan praline). Unfortunately, there is no real Cajun/Creole food in Arizona. Every time I am in Alexandria, I will make a stop to bring back great foods to share with friends in Phoenix, Az. Yes, the staff and services is very friendly and helpful, especially in packing your goodies for the road.

Really great boudin, boudin balls and true Cajun plate lunches. I hope this place lasts, because Alexandria doesn’t seem to know how to keep a good restaurant. Prices are fair, this is a laid back place and the staff is friendly. You can also buy seasonings and miscellaneous Cajun goodies. Have a pepper jack stuffed boudin ball and change your life! Cajun approved!

Stopped here on our way between Lafayette and Shreveport. Greeted with smiles from the owner and(I think) his lovely family. Not a large menu but it was just right, I’m not good at decisions anyway. We ordered a dozen tamales, four boudin balls, two of them filled with Monterey Jack cheese, one regular, and one of the owner’s creation — cream cheese and jalapeño. We were a little unsure so he grabbed one, cut it in half and gave each of us a sample. OMG. Absolutely delicious! Then they gave us a sample of the cracklings, which we’d never tried before, and of course we bought a half pound of them, too. We ate what we could and walked out happily stuffed with a ton of leftovers! Yay! Super friendly service and outstanding food. Can’t go wrong here! And the restrooms are nice and clean. Y’all gotta eat here. You won’t be disappointed or leave hungry. We’ll be back for sure!
