Since we were in the neighborhood, the gf and I stopped in at another one of Virginia’s liquor stores run by «the Man». The experience was memorable and brought tears to my eyes. The Good: A good-sized store with a solid selection containing several items I’d not seen previously at other area ABC locations, and a personable staff offering friendly customer service. The Bad: Consistent with other ABC stores, the prices are higher for most items than what you’d find in the District. The Ugly(and, frankly, nauseatingly disgusting): One particular customer. I don’t want to make light of an individual who obviously has SERIOUS problems with alcohol(and perhaps several other substances), but I’ve never seen someone as disheveled and foul smelling as the guy who arrived by cab to buy a bottle of «rot gut». It was immediately apparent that the guy had been stewing in his juices for a significant amount of time as his ripe odor stung my nostrils like«Sex Panther» to the point of inducing tears. His stench of urine, sweat, and other unimaginable vileness lingered in the store long after he ambled/stumbled back into the waiting cab which whisked him away. I felt so sorry for the cabbie. Seriously, if there was one person the store should’ve turned away at the door and refused service, it was him! I’d be willing to come back to this ABC location, but I’d be afraid that the smelly guy is a regular.

3-stars for the store. They have a good selection of spirits not normally seen at some of the other ABC stores. It was easy to find what you are looking for since the signs were prominent. The staff was friendly and helpful. For that reason I would go back… someday. If I could give negative stars to the clientele I would. While Gregg M and I were walking around the store, I went around the back part where the vodka was and was immediately assailed with this rank smell. I thought someone had decided to just let it go in the back corner. However, the smell continued as I continued up the aisle. Gregg M pinpointed the smell — the man at the front. Once he left, the fumigation commenced. Evidently this man has been here before. No wonder they keep Lysol around. I felt sorry for the woman at the front of the store who had to ring up his purchases. I’m sure she was trying to hold her breath while he was there. I felt sorrier for the taxi cab driver who picked him up. I wonder if they keep Lysol around. The next time I go to this store… I’ll bring my own can of Lysol — just in case.
