I went last year or the first time, and I have to say the beer tasted better this year. I’ve sampled most, if not all of them between last year and this year, plus I found a new beer on the list this year that I liked. They offer a small menu of soups and sandwiches, as well as snacks. For a small venue, they’ve got you covered. It’s located a few doors down from Von Stiehl Winery, so you can get your beer and your wine on. Actually, you can buy a few Von Stiehl wines at Ahnapee for your convenience. Growlers are available for purchase in case you want to take some to your hotel room for future imbibing. I like it. Go check it out.

I finally stopped in after living in Algoma for 2 years. This little brew pub is no larger than a garage, but it is packed with ambiance. They offer several options for appetizers and sandwiches. They had on tap a dozen of their specialty craft beers including some seasonal ones. I ordered a pumpkin ale infused with serrano peppers. This was a unique combination. The fruitiness of the pumpkin and the savory of the serrano worked well together. the other one I tried was the cranberry pumpkin ale. This one was tart but not too tart. the first one was my favorite. I also ordered a thin flatbread pizza. This hand crafted pizza was very tasty. Not sure that it was worth the $ 11 but it didn’t break the bank. One thing to be aware of is that you need at least a $ 15 tab in order to use a credit or debit card which is one reason I got the pizza.

Beer was excellent. A nice selection. Service was personable and informative. Clientele was friendly and engaging. Recommendation is a must stop when in Algoma.

Such a cute little gem of a brewery! Located next to Von Stiehl Winery, it is easy to miss. In fact, the only reason my husband noticed it was because we decided to take a walk down to the lakefront after a visit to the winery. At first, I thought it was just someone’s garage, but when we went inside, I was pleasantly surprised! There was one bartender and counter seating for around 12 or so. 4 people were already there when we arrived. I quick gander at the menu left me wanting to try a couple beers — the Fun Guy and the Two Stall. Not being able to make up my mind, my husband suggested we give most of the beers a try and ordered five 5 oz tastings. Everything was delicious. As expected, my favorites were the Fun Guy and Two Stall. The bartender was great too. He obviously knew a lot about beer and was happy to share how each were made. The prices were great too: $ 2 for 5 oz, $ 3 for 12 oz., and $ 5 for 20 oz. We weren’t there for long, but we had a great time. I’m just bummed we didn’t grab a six pack to go! Do visit this brewery!!!

Stopped here and at the winery next door on our way through town. Glad we made the stop. All of the beers they offer are very tasty and drinkable. Small batches, they do offer a seasonal beer. I wish they sold it in se wi. The sale rep/bartender was very knowledgable. It is in a garage so you might miss it the first time, but it looks great on the inside and you have a great view on the water while sampling. I will def be going back.

One of the best microbrews in the Midwest! Definitely, a major stop on the way to Door County. Also, the service was impeccable.

My friends and I so loved this place! I’m not a strong beer Drinker… But really enjoyed three of the five samples I tried, chores, pumpkin spice and the stout. Others in our group really liked numerous other beers too. Definitely worth visiting!

Descriptive phrase: interesting and tasty small-town beers. Rolling past the imposing brick winery next door, we were on the lookout for a larger brewery. Instead we found a literal garage with a big Ahnapee Brewery banner on the door and a beautiful old car out front. We were intrigued. Ahnapee Brewery is in the small town of Algoma, right on the Ahnapee River a few blocks from where it meets Lake Michigan. It’s a small space, but feels homey rather than cramped. We were the only two there when we arrived, though our guide behind the bar was helpful and friendly and eventually some locals wandered in. $ 2 per tasting glass, and that day they had 6 of their beers on tap. Äppler Cider: This Cider is made with 100% locally-grown apples and is much drier than you’d expect, which lends itself to be more drinkable with just a tinge of sweet. One of the more full-bodied ciders I’ve had. Long Goodbye: A Munich Helles, the Long Goodbye is made to be similar to what the original Ahnapee Brewery would’ve made. It’s refreshing, but a bit weak for me for anything other than lounging on the porch. Little Soldier: Their go at an Amber Ale is solid, with the right balance of malt and hops, with a hint of caramel. Mushroom Brown Ale: The most interesting of the batch, this Brown Ale is brewed with a variety of different mushrooms. The taste isn’t overpowering, but the shrooms definitely add a creamy, earthy tang to the beer. Bavarian Dunkel: So good I bought a growler of it to go. It’s a German Lager, and goes down smoother than the malty heaviness would let on. Chocolate Milk Stout: Better than your average Stout; think a chocolaty Guinness. Ahnapee Brewery is an inviting space full of people just as approachable as their beer. Don’t be fooled by the small-town nature of the place, though; these brews are finely-crafted and truly good.

Friendly people, great beer, cool atmosphere. What else could you want? Constantly rotating selection of beer on tap alongside the regular favorites. Head brewer Nick is the man!

Well worth the stop to what used to be a small garage. It has been transformed into a great place to sit and try up to 8 different craft beers. They have 4 that are always available and 4 that change on occasion. You are able to order 5, 12 or 20 ounce glasses. So start with some 5’s to find your favorite of the day and then go for a 20.

STOPHERE! Why? Because, it is for the beer lover deep down inside all of us. It is a place for those with beer appreciation, at the very least. The beers produced nearby in Forestville are brought to this garage cum brew pub(no food, though, folks). They do not sell their brewed science anywhere else, so pick yourself up a growler and imbibe elsewhere OR get one of 3 sizes and hunker down at the bar. I do so wish I knew the brewer’s name. He is passionately sharing his brews from behind the bar, telling you how it began, what makes the flavors, and offering a sample of about 6 varieties of hoppy goodness. The next time you are at Von Stiehl Winery, literally next door, take a few steps down the walk to the Ahnapee Brewery. Don’t think it starts and stops with«Naughty Girl» wine. Believe me. Just try the chocolate milk stout if you doubt me… or ask the growler sitting in my fridge right now. BTW: Cash only, peeps!
