I’m surprised I haven’t reviewed this winery before. Although there seem to be a lot of places I haven’t reviewed yet. Maybe I’ll get caught up this year. This is the first stop on our annual Door County Winter Fest weekend trip. The space is beautiful, very classy looking with lots of dark colored wood and fancy furniture. There is also a second floor that looks perfect for private parties and group tastings. You are given up to 6 samples at no charge and most of the wine is under $ 20. I don’t think I sampled one that I didn’t like. One of the wines is made with cherry brandy distilled in Milwaukee at Great Lakes Distillery! Yes, it was awesome! The staff is also friendly and knowledgeable. You can find their wines at larger liquor stores, but I think you should visit the winery to explore all of the options you won’t find in a store. I look forward to visiting each year!

Very lovely, complex wines; enjoyed many of the reds! The staff is very friendly and knowledgable! They go out of their way to help find wines you may enjoy and make you feel right at home. Beautiful building and spacious for tastings. Highly recommended and worth the drive for the Door County wine tour! One of our favorites!

Excellent Service, Very Qualified, Great Experience. If you are on a the Wine tours, this is a must stop location. Excellent wine with the most knowledgeable staff we found on our tour. If you are stopping — I suggest you go here last, because this experience ruined us at all other winery’s — we compared everything to Von Stiehl and nothing compared. The wine tasting is free, which is usually a good sign that they make a good wine… Enjoy!!!

I have managed a tasting room for several years in Arizona and this is not only well run, historic and ever so charming! Linda was a delight and the cherry wines both dry and sweet were such a treat ! Their ice wine made with Wisconsin apples will be a new after dinner treat. If not traveling by train I would have bought several cases.

I always enjoy going to this winery. The tours are cheap only $ 4 per adult however, not a very big tour but the wine makes it well worth it with complementary samples. The staff is friendly, helpful, and courteous. The wine is fantastic! Very clean environment and I love the historical building!

A great winery with a wide range of wines. Sure to please everyone’s pallet. The staff are very knowledgeable about their entire line. The building is a civil war era treasure. Very beautiful! If you are in the area, don’t miss it!

What a great winery! Google Maps got us turned around a bit, but the place isn’t too difficult to find, just up the road from the lake. This was our first stop on the Door County Wine Trail. We walked in the door and were greeted immediately. We were asked if it was our first visit, and we confirmed that it was. Our server handed us a wine list and told us to start picking wines to sample. As usual, I tried the whites and my husband tried the reds. I was actually really impressed. We took home the pinot grigio, but a close second was the oaked riesling. Our server insisted we try the unoaked, then the oaked riesling to taste the difference. I didn’t think I’d like either riesling, but the oaked riesling wasn’t very sweet, and was actually kind of dry, in a good way. Some of the furniture in the sitting area(the tables and stools are covered in whine corks! How fun! You can get some local specialties here too, like cheese, and a bunch of wine-related items like accessories, coasters, glasses, etc. Our server asked where we were headed next on the trail, and made some great recommendations. We even swapped a couple of the wineries we were going to visit based on her recommendations. Plus, she told us to head up U, which runs along the lake, instead of taking 42, as we originally had planned. Oh, and some of the names of the wines are fun. Like the Naughty Girl and the Skinny Dip Point. Do stop here at the beginning or end of your wine trail tour.

First off, you couldn’t find a cuter small town than Algoma. Right on Lake Michigan, it is a very walkable«hometown». From the Lake, follow the Ahnapee River just a few blocks to the Von Stiehl Winery. A beautifully restored building with a lot of history. Please take the tour if you get a chance. Hear wonderful stories of the building, former wine maker Doc Stiehl, and current wine makers at the«Over There» Production Facility. Erin was my guide and she was both informative and fun. It is evident that she and her co workers enjoy their jobs at the winery. What started as a hobby in a basement that made four fruit wines, has now become over twenty different wine varie made in multiple styles. There is a complimentary tasting at the bar for six samples. You have an option to pay $ 5 for a tasting of five of their more impressive offerings; which is a real steal. The Von Stiehl wine makers make very thoughtful and interesting wines. And some of the names are just too cute for words. I walked off with several more bottles than I intended on buying. The more you buy, gives you discounts. Joining the Case Club, gives you discounts. And there were sales all over the place. So I didn’t stand a chance of walking out of there with just two bottles like I thought. I don’t think a visit to this family run business will disappoint anyone.

This has always been one of my favorite wineries to visit and tour. They’ve come up with some extremely tasty wine and very fun gift giving names of their wine. The creativity, flavor, atmosphere and tour get 5 stars from all of us! Loved the Naughty Girl and Titletown!

So I was in the area on my return trip from Door County and Mom wanted to stop. Well ok we will stop but I figured this probably wouldn’t be much to experience. I was so wrong. You can sample their wines. I think they let you try 6. They give a helpful explanation on each type too. I wanted to try Naughty Girl just because of the fun name. I ended up buying late harvest and regular Riesling, Naughty Girl, Framboise(raspberry), and Sweet Cherry. I recommend making a day trip here. Great place. Great service.

Five easy stars for Von Stiehl Winery. Three trips in three years to Algoma for this family run business in an historic building. The staff is very helpful and happy to just chat and tell stories. Patrons range from locals to visitors from around the country and other nations. There are two types of wine tasting. For six non-premium wines the tasting is free and there is a charge for the higher end premium wines. You make your selections on a wine list and they’ll let you sample in order with an explanation of every wine. Buying a case leads to more benefits and for those hanging in the area there are many types parings during the week. The shop is low lit with colorful displays and seats and tables made out of corks.

We are new to town and wanted to check out some of the local venues. Von Stiehl was bookmarked on my list to try. It’s an older stone building with a modern décor inside. Most of the wines they make are on display and are available for purchase at reasonable price. They use many fruits grown locally. We sampled the sweet cherry and sassy sangria, and wound up getting both. You can sample up to 5 wines complimentary.

On a whim during our travels through Door County, my son and I on our first trip to Green Bay stopped in for some wine tasting at Von Stiehl. I am from Northern California, about an hour from the Napa wine country. Trips to wineries there can be an exercise in elitism and pretension. This was the complete opposite of that! The building was beautiful and it’s location was a stone’s throw away from the coast of Lake Michigan. They had a wide variety of wines to taste and had two flights available for pairings with cheese or their handmade chocolate truffles. Both were three healthy pours of wine paired excellently for a very reasonable price. My son did the chocolate pairing with their reds and I did the chocolate with their sweet wines. I can only imagine that the cheese pairings would have been equally satisfying. Many of the wines, especially my sweets were flavored with the local fruits. The chocolates were unique and exquisite and were paired perfectly with their wines to bring out the best of both. The Saturday afternoon we were there was about an hour before they closed and they were short staffed but you never would have known it by their cheerful and friendly demeanor. We couldn’t afford to purchase any of the wines even though we would have loved to but there was no pressure or push back for this. It was a wonderful way to spend some time on our Door County adventure and well worth the visit!

They have some nice wines here. You can try 5 of them for free. They are very good at explaining the flavors of their wines. I really enjoyed the Satin Red. I tried it and had to buy two bottles to take home. They have a really nice gift shop with all of their wines and a lot of cool wine accessories. Definitely a must visit winery.

I came here with my parents on a day driving around Door County. The place is cute and has cool things in their shop(besides the wine). We did a tasting and ended up buying a full case of wines. All of the wines were DE-licious. So so good! And the ladies working were very friendly. They also sell Lt. Blenders brand wine drink mixes(sangria stuff). The white sangria mix made with the Von Stiehl Riesling is… crazy good!

We found out about this winery through their sister winery Captain’s Walk. It was on Lake Michigan and had beautiful scenery. We were greeted by a really nice woman who offered tastings. Highly recommend their wine and the summer events

I always try to make a point of stopping at Von Stiehl when I trek up to Door County. I am not a fan of their grape wines, but their fruit wines are fantastic. I am a particular fan of the cherries and blueberry wines. I recently picked up a bottle of their oak aged cherry fortified(think port).
