I liked Café Firefly, such a nice alternative to Starbucks, etc. As another poster mentioned, it looks as though it is closed/shut down. I drive by every day and looked through the windows, it appears to be cleared out. A shame, it was a nice place. Don’t know if they were a victim of all the construction, or just slow business due to location.

This is another hidden gem in the area that I wish had at lease one late night a week where the wife an I could steal away after work. Heck I’m surprised that the place hasn’t been over-run with tired motorists braving the Route 31 commute. I needed a place to hang out and imbibe some much needed caffeine while I began a research project. I found myself at their doorstep enjoying their coffee, a pastrie and ultimately had the zippy chicken which was excellent. Their internet access was flawless and service impeccable. Job well done

Such a cute little café. The service was great, and everyone is so friendly. Very fun environment, and everyone was kind of in on the conversation which I thought was pretty awesome when I walked in! Admittedly, I am not very versed in my coffee drinks and they were very helpful in finding something I would like, and I did!

Went there today for the first time. All the other Unilocal reviews were super positive and made this place sound amazing. Maybe we just went on an off day, but I didn’t see what all the hype was about. Service wise, everyone was very friendly and polite. It’s family owned and operated, so a young red haired boy made our coffee. He seemed to be agitated at his sister and not happy with her, but still made our drinks quickly. I had a Mexican Mocah. Sounded good, but it was completely missing heat. The girl said there was cayenne in it, but I didn’t find any at all. It was also really weak in terms of coffee flavor. It was decent, but not something I’d get again. I also got a grilled cheese with bacon. It was tasty but again nothing to make me come back for it. My husband got an iced coffee which he said was«meh» and a breakfast sandwich which he said was good. Since all the reviews said the baked goods were to die for, I got a mini chocolate peanut butter cup cake. Um, wow that was super dry and seemed at least three days old. All of the other baked goods they were out of stock of(which is probably a good sign they are awesome) but I wasn’t able to try them. They were making more fresh scones but I didn’t have time to try them. In any event, we will go back again if nothing than to give it another shot, but for now it was an average coffee shop with semi weak drinks and average food(minus the terribly old and hard cupcakes). If you want an amazing local coffee chain, and are ever in Milwaukee, check out Alterra and their AMAZING grilled cheese and spicy Mocah. Good stuff.

My friend and I came in after visiting the downtown algonquin, and was greeted by Wade. Very pleasant we sat enjoyed our coffees and then Joe brought out our sandwichs, I highly reccomend the grilled chicken pesto, I got mine on wheat bread but they have other options. My friend got the extreme grilled cheese loved it! It came with chips and a pickle yummy. Our iced coffees were terrific! They tasted like coffee instead of watered down cream flavoured coffee! I highly recomeend trying this café!

Wonderful local business! Every time I have enjoyed something here, whether it be a coffee, scone, or sandwich if has always been fresh & delicious. Forget the days old brick scones at the other coffee shops and enjoy freshly baked honey walnut, peach, or apple scone here– you won’t be disappointed. Service is friendly, warm & genuine, and prices are very reasonable.

I saw this place on Unilocal and new I had to check it out! Firefly is a small coffee shop in downtown Algonquin. I really liked the atmosphere with the couches and comfy chairs. There was a group of people meeting, so we did not get to cozy up on this visit! I ordered a caramel apple latte. It sounded different and I was in the autumn mood. It totally hit the spot. There was a check in offer for a free mini cupcake. I picked the salted caramel frosted pumpkin spice cupcake. It was awesome as well. The girls working the counter were super friendly. I look forward to returning when it is less crowded.

If there is a heaven I am certain they serve Lavender Mochas and scones from Café Firefly! Oooh, the woodsy sweetness of the lavender was perfect. I paired it with a Honey Walnut Scone and was rewarded with the most buttery delicious delight. It didn’t seem as dense & heavy as other scones I’ve had and I really enjoyed it! Not to leave hubby out I picked up a bottle of Hank’s Cream Soda & a Hello Dolly Bar(coconut, choc chips & butterscotch) to bring home for him. He was in a creamy sugary overdose in no time! The Hello Dolly Bar was huge, too. I see they also serve a few flavors of Kimmer’s Ice Cream, another one of my faves. I’ll reserve 5 stars for a future visit when I try one of their sandwiches. Yes, don’t let their online menu fool you — they DO still have a limited selection of sandwiches as well and several bakery items. Their online menu only lists their beverages. It’s just a skip away from the Fox River and a few little parks so grab a beverage & a treat or a sandwich and have a little picnic.

I really enjoy going to firefly. When they first started out their coffee skills weren’t great and their prices seemed to change depending on who was ringing you up. Now however the staff seems great– there is a super friendly guy who works in the morning, also the drinks and their consistancy have improved and their service which was always pretty good is still the best I have experienced at a coffee shop in this area. I love that they have couches, books and game and it is a chill atmosphere where I don’t feel rushed to finish my drink and leave. Its a great place to meet up with people or relax plus its a locally owned café so its always good to support those.

I’m embarrassed to say that I’ve lived in Algonquin for almost 2 years, and visited Café Firefly for the first time yesterday. It made me wish I’d stopped in sooner! I was really impressed by the interior. It was very relaxing, even a couple of unattended children didn’t spoil it. It’s better than most coffee shops you’ll find anywhere, and we’re planning to make this a regular spot for us to visit.

Third weekend of the caffeine cruise brought us to this charming coffee shop in Algonquin. It was fresh, clean and friendly and I was warmly welcomed as I came through the door. Great bathroom and nice selection on the menu. I ordered a small vanilla latte which was expertly prepared. In addition, I decided to try a mini chocolate cupcake and a giant cookie. Both looked delicious, were very reasonably priced(.75 for mini cupcake) and had a very nice flavors and chewy fun things inside. Both they were so dried out. I understand that it is hard to rotate your stock in a small coffee shop and I don’t know what the answer is but sadly, these were too stale to eat. The coffee was lovely. Hot, rich, creamy with just the right amount of vanilla. And fresh, an important characteristic. I would definitely come back if I were ever in Algonquin again. Cost: About 4.00 Cup: Paper Preparation: Hand crafted

Love this place! Everything from the comfy couches to the delicious coffee… the unbelievably good pastries(try the scones!) to the kids games on the bookshelf. The staff is fantastic and very coffee knowledgeable… such a fantastic place to get away from it all for an hour or two.

Incredibly cute place! Good location, fantastic [veggie] sandwiches, great drinks, comfortable, artsy atmosphere. You can sit inside or outside on the patio(as I did). It’s also the first place I’ve been to where I saw an iPad being used as the cash register. Neat.

This place has ambiance, coffee and delicious bakery treats that rivals the bigger, more well known establishments. Located in the heart of downtown Algonquin, this little gem has become a regular stop for me in the morning. LOVELOVELOVE this place!

I had been riding my bike from my home in Elgin to the Starbucks in West Dundee for several months, and wanted to go somewhere that would give me a longer ride. I decided to head north and see if I came across anything else. Hello, Café Firefly. I worked at a coffee shop for 5 years, so I know good coffee. The drinks were good– exactly what I would expect. I was happy to see their food options were decent. I didn’t try many things, but what I have had has been tasty… and more importantly, FRESH. More than that, it had the right coffee shop«feel». The workers(the owner included, I think, since she is always there) are always friendly and prompt. Polite, but not obnoxiously bubbly. For the most part, it seems pertty professional, but I have been there in the evenings and you can tell it’s a little less business and a little more casual… but not in a way that really detracts from the atmosphere. Every time I have gone, there has been at least one other person also there, staying for a while… but it has never been so crowded I couldnt find a seat. Overall, great place!

Thank goodness for the new owners of Café Firefly! Not only do they have the absolute best coffee and teas, but their sandwiches are perfect! If you like chicken salad-you must try it! It is made perfectly! Also, their baked goods are excellent. The strawberry lemonade cupcakes are sooooogood. Order one or a dozen-yes they take orders and well worth it! The seating is so comfortable and wireless pulls you away from your home office. Friendly and customer service oriented owners. Stop in the morning and Steph will remember your order-wonderful service. You must try Café Firefly-you will not be sorry.

Café Firefly is a comfortable place to grab a table and work or chat with a friend, very friendly staff, easy to get on internet and most of all great coffee! I’m partial to Starbucks, but this may be my new regular coffee joint! Got a Latte with skim and Irish Cream syrup… it was awesome! Their cupcakes look wonderful, so I may have to grab one on the way out today and I will be sure to update this post after I have a taste! There are a couple couches, two comfy chairs and 4 tables inside and when it gets nice out there is some outdoor seating too! I’m all about supporting local business and this will be one of my new favorites to visit!

The bakery goods are super and so are the drinks! Nice atmosphere with comfortable chairs and sofa. A nice addition to the ‘downtown’.
