Massage Envy – Algonquin

Melanie is the reason I stay. Changed from once every month or so on average to every weekend. Melanie is so great and will stay as long as she does.
Was at the South Elgin clinic and it felt like I was a test dummy for all the newbies. Once I even found someone that I liked, and they refused to book me again, South Elgin is terrible.
Stick with this location, they will take care of you!

Why?
It’s really simple. Instead of to following the paper I’ve spend time and completed, masseuse decided to give me the massage she wanted .
Manager asked me if masseuse recommended me something how to prevent pain on my back and beck and my insomnia problem because of that, but unfortunately masseuse didn’t know or said anything about it .
Not really professional. But okay for those who don’t care ;)

Buyer beware! Shop around, speak with therapists at OTHER area clinics and give other stores a try BEFORE SIGNING ANYTHING from this clinic!
We’ve been members here for some time. Their therapists were good but it appears they have more turnover than other area clinics (non-​Massage Envy). Whenever we find a therapist we like, they have not stayed very long. Rarely do we get a massage from a Massage Envy therapist who has been there a year or more. Sessions are rushed, tend to start late, and their employees seem exhausted by their heavy workload. We’re exercising our option to terminate since our initial term has expired.
Their billing practices are aggressive — even more so than other Massage Envy clinics. When we tried to terminate our membership they would not acknowledge by email or letter accepting our termination request, and just kept billing. Calls and visits to the store did not help. We ended up having to change our CC#, send registered return receipt letters and open a BBB case just to counter their threatening tactics.
Our experience at this clinic has not only soured us at this business: We will not in good conscience visit or recommend another Massage Envy again.
There are several wonderful therapists in Algonquin, Crystal Lake and Lake in the Hills. Try other clinics and therapists. Ask LOTS of questions to find a therapist that is right for you. But be very aware that you’re signing a long-​term contract that is VERY difficult to get out of — no matter how subpar the service is.

These «chain» massage parlors are not the cream of the crop. First off, they scheduled me on the wrong date, once I got that rectified to the correct date, my therapist was Kelly. I had visited Massage Envy several years ago and had a decent experience at that time. However, the therapist I had today was not the best. In summary, she never asked how the pressure was, spent WAY too much time on my neck, actually had red marks on the right side from her thumb nail digging in several times, «forgot» to massage my left arm, did not do a thorough job of the massage, neglected fingers and toes all together and spent very little time on hands and feet, wow, just over all disappointing, I’ve had massages from resort spas to having massages from students or recent grads of First Institute in Crystal Lake, all those experiences outweigh this one. I still tipped 20%, because I was initially told the cost was $ 79, so thinking I tipped 15% with a $ 12 tip. But it was $ 49, so $ 12 was over 20%. I have easily tipped $ 20 on really good massages, too bad this place won’t be getting my business again. I told the receptionist the massage was «just ok“when she asked, and said I was comparing to the others I had in the past. She asked if I wanted to book my next appt, really? Uh, no. Dang, I really feel for those who signed up for these sorry ass memberships, good luck bailing out of those.: (

I don’t really know why everyone says that they are pushy in trying to sell you their membership… I didn’t have anyone ask me to join at all! I was kind of dreading having to keep saying «no» if they were as adament as some reviewers claimed they were, but I honestly wasn’t asked to join at all until the very end when I mentioned it myself. I really loved my experience there! (I did end up signing up for the membership at the very end just because I loved my experience there and I had been planning on it anyway, but that’s beside the point.)
Their receptionists were very nice and, sure, their «traquility room» (AKA waiting room while you wait after checking in at the front desk) is cheesy, but it is still comfy and calming. My therapist was Sam and she was AMAZING! She specializes in deep tissue massage and she even tried some Thai stretching therapy with me since she knew it would help my particular problem areas. I’ve had many other massages at various other places (from high-​end spas to hotels to massage therapy schools), and, to be honest, my Massage Envy masseuse was the only one who actually asked a lot of questions and talked me through what she was doing (I did ask a lot of questions and she was EXTREMELY knowledgable). If you want a good quality massage at a decent price, this is the place to go.

They have made mistakes with 4 massages and the manager is really snotty. We will not ever go back!

I love this place, they know you by name once you have been there a few times. Massage staff is great (Taylor, Justyna and Sally are my favorite massage therapists) and the ladies at the front desk are nice too. I am part of the massage club so I do enjoy that I have to get a massage once a month, it helps with stress. You can bank you massages meaning if you don’t use your massage one month the next month you can use it. I like that they are open 7 days a week and I can use my membership at any Massage Envy location.
I have never had the hard sell experience at this location but I can see how that would be annoying if they started to upsell everything all of the time.

I had a massage set up for February 3 at 10. When I showed up they said that my appointment was for March 17. Their response to me was maybe it was either a computer or human error, and that I should be able to understand how that can happen. Sorry but no I don’t. I would never go back to a place that can not even set up an appointment correctly.

I like this place. It’s clean, convenient and cozy with a fireplace. I’m not a member, but I do enjoy treating myself to a massage now and then. I like that they are nationwide and I know what I’m getting, whether I’m getting a massage near home or not. I’ve visited a few Massage Envy locations in the states. I can call or walk in most days and get an appointment on the spot, depending on availability.

DO NOT SIGN UP FOR MEMBERSHIP, they claim you can freeze but you cannot cancel. I tried canceling months ago had to dispute on my credit card. The service was awful so i wanted to cancel and they wouldn’t let me.
Now i got a letter from a collection agency for services i never received

Stay away from this place and do not sign up for a membership.
They do everything they can to confuse you and keep you signed up, while continuing to charge your credit card. Outright lies and made up rules to extend the amount of money they collect from you.
Very deceptive, rude and unprofessional.
Read up on them on the Internet … it is a pattern with the company, and this location is the worst example of the chain.

Jessie is the best for massage!
However, the front desk staff is terrible and they screw everything up, even making you an appt for a different day than they tell you. Be very careful, but worth the trouble for the great massage.

I was there in December. Lesley was my massage therapist. She was excellent, best massage ever (and I’ve had a lot).

Relaxing, not pushy, knowledgeable, and friendly staff. Especially my favorite therapist, James. I call him my Guru because every time I see him, I feel amazing, he’s making a complete difference in my back. I no longer have daily back pain. I highly recommend him! He also has a lot of insight into stretches you can do to alleviate pain, ways to relax, and how to generally help you with whatever your ailment is. I have nothing bad to say about this place. Try it!

My daughter and I recently treated ourselves to massages at Massage Envy in Algonquin. Joy was her massage therapist and Tim was mine. We both thought it was the the best massage we have ever had! I was so relaxed and felt absolutely wonderful after my massage.
I had read here that you get a «hard sell» of their membership program after your massage (which I was dreading), but no one tried to sell me anything! We’ll both definitely be back!
