Like most older Asian, language is an issue living in America so my dad was recommended to go to Dr. Mak. I wasn’t present with my dad when he had scheduled with Dr. Mak about my dad’s treatment, it was mostly my mom went with my dad.
My problem is with the billing. I told my parents that I’ll take care of the amount. So, right end of November 2015 I received the summary of the bill. I called up the billing department and I spoke to Jackie and I told her I’m having financial issue due to holidays and see if I can make some sort of arrangement to pay. She told me I could pay as much I could afford, when I heard that I was relieved and told her I would pay $ 300 to start off with. I asked for a conformation number but she told me she couldn’t at the moment so I asked when she does have it can she… text it to me and she told me alright and little over 15 minutes I received it and then another payment of $ 300 around the same date on December.
Fast forward now after the holidays, I didn’t thought of anything so I deleted the text message like I usually do so it won’t overcrowded my other messages. My mom gave me the January 2016 bill and I was like why is it missing a payment? I called the (805) 577‑8730 that was printed on the statement and it was like a Google number and it wasn’t working no more and got the new number. I explained the situation and they looked it up and said to me that my first payment was somehow inputted into another account. I was confused cause my mom didn’t tell me about it. So, because I wasn’t sure I didn’t want to move the money back to the first account until I asked my mom. My mom then told me she didn’t know either cause she told me that she did asked Dr. Mak about the price and he assured that it was final and nothing more.
So, here I am with 2 bills with different account that I needed to pay. So, I finally decided to call the billing department and asked for the Supervisor named Andy but they told me he has left for the day so the next person in charge was Gust. I told Gust about the situation and he told me he called me back and I waited until like 4:44pm PST and call them back and the recording said the office is now closed at 4:30pm, got a red flag on my head (shady) should have told me to called back tomorrow but instead just went home without any customer service. So, the next day I called back and demanded to speak to Andy. I told him what Gust did and why they haven’t changed the old number to the new number and Andy just asked, «How can I helped you?» like he didn’t care about my concerns. I told him the entire story I stated above and he told me that Dr. Mak had work with him many years and he wouldn’t tell anyone about pricing. Now, I’m going back to the statements about why was my payment was placed in the wrong account if I specifically read the account number to Jackie and Andy told me regardless I still have to pay for both accounts. Here I am going back and forth on the phone trying to helped out my parents get this figure out and he’s thinking I want to haggle price with him. So, I told him I’ll called him back and I called Dr. Mak office and that morning my parents went into the office also trying to talk to Dr. Mak but he wasn’t available so Esther (either front desk or a nurse lady) took copies of the statement and I also spoke to her and told her also about the situation and she told me after the doctor review it they will contact me. Then, I called Andy one last final time that day and just told me I have to pay and he offer to just combine both bills into one. I was like, please don’t if you ain’t going to help because by doing so everything will be all messed up and it’ll be harder to explain and clear up, just told him to leave it alone until further notice.
A few days ago, after not hearing from Esther, Dr. Mak or Andy my mom received a staple 2 page statements that stated «immediate payment is required to avoid collection action. ****this is a final notice****»
After all that, they threatened us to pay up. What kind of customer service is that? I would NOT RECOMMEND anyone to this office and hope I can save someone else the heartache. I will pay EVERYTHING but not going to deal with Dr. Mak or the billing department ever again.
