Came here to use our groupon since it expires fri… we were asked if we had reservations, my sister said no and said don’t you only take reservations for 6 or more? the hostess said since it’s the last week for the groupon we «gaged» that there would be alot of people so we are taking reservations for under 6 people. SOUMMHOWWEREWESUPPOSETOKNOWTHAT!!! Anyways as we waited for our table(45min wait) we sat in the«waiting area» near the bar. They have live music and the guy is horrible… he is ruining all these songs! I know they are trying to be trendy or what not but I’d rather listen to jazz on a cd than this guy. Some people left at the bar so we decided to just sit there since the bar is first come first serve. The hostess knew we were a party of 4 and there were only 3 chairs and didn’t go and grab us an extra chair. The owner/bartender took our order and said he will be back with some bread. We ordered tiger prawns as our appetizer and when they arrived they weren’t cooked all the way through… ordered onion rings as our 2nd appetizer. and asked for a side of ranch for my onion rings… and at this point still no bread! The waitress came and cleared everyone’s salad dishes but seemed to have forgotten to take mines… my entrée came out and maybe 10 minutes into eating she came back with my ranch dressing, which by this time my onion rings were cold… she also said the bread will take awhile since its baking. I’m done with my entrée and I still have no bread… we asked for the chocolate lava cake when we ordered our meal and when they came to clear our table we asked for our desserts and we told her what we wanted again(hostess/waitress) she said she had to check on the lava cake because it’ll take awhile, she came back and said they were sold out of lava cake so we asked for cheesecake, she came back and said they were sold out, so we ended up with 2 crème brulees… not sure how you can run out when you«gaged» for this week for people to use their groupons. Always have more of an item than less… didn’t anyone take a purchasing class here?!! 10 minutes later still no crème brûlée… seriously? All you gotta do is slap some sugar on top and torch it! This was probably the worst experience ever at a restaurant and their attitude was horrible. I’m so glad they are no longer in business…

I decided to try this place because of the groupon deal, had it not been for that… honestly I would have never set foot in this place. Let me start by reviewing it like this: Food — 3.5 stars and Service — 5. Because groupon said that reservations were required, I phoned ahead. But when I got there @ 7 for my reservation, the place was empty and the waitress/hostess told me I can sit anywhere I wanted. Immediately after we were seated, the waitress brought us some bread(it was pretty good bread, so bready!) and asked to take our drink order. The groupon deal came with 2 glasses of wine, but she gladly substituted one for soda. The waitress continued to check on us before we ordered, after we got our food, and before we asked for the bill. She refilled my water and my girlfriend’s soda without us asking. Anytime we asked for anything, she brought it over right away… It was like we were the only ones in the restaurant — wait, we were! One of the three owners was very nice. He came over after we ordered to chat with us a little, and again after we paid the bill. I ordered the Rib Eye(cooked medium rare) with a side of garlic mashed potatoes, and my girlfriend ordered the NY Steak with sweet potato fries and we started with onion rings. My first choice would have been the Prime Rib, but it is now only a weekend special — just FYI. I don’t consider myself a steak connoisseur, but I can at least tell good steak from a bad one. I would compare these steaks to some thing i ordered once at Cheesecake factory. It’s a few steps up from the Denny’s but its no Lawry’s or even Houston’s. Both the Rib-eye and NY were cooked perfectly, very tender, and seasoned just right. I was a little disappointed in the size of my rib-eye though. The menu said it was 24 oz, but it was much smaller than my girlfriend’s 20 oz NY steak. These will not the best steaks you can have in the area, but you really are only paying $ 20 versus $ 50-$ 70 you would at a fancy steakhouse. The sweet potato fries were delicious! The onion rings were good, but they were slightly overcooked and most of the rings were fused with other ones. The garlic mashed potatoes were, at least in my book, awesome! It was very creamy and had a strong garlic taste. I don’t know what you call it when there are small chunks of potatoes mixed into your creamy mashed potatoes(homestyle? the cook to lazy to mash them all evenly??), but I love my mashed potatoes this way! The reason why I gave MR+ a 4 star is that I don’t believe the 2.5 stars represents this place properly. I’ve read many of the reviews and it seems like their rating really took a beating after the first groupon deal. Based on my last experience I would give it a 4.5 — 5 star. This place has many things going for it… A pretty good location on a busy street, very nice ambiance(with lights that flash to the beat of the music), a bar area for you to watch the game/wait for your table, walking distance to several coffee/tea/dessert places, walking distance to a movie theater(to keep the date going), lastly it has good food for a decent price. I’ll come back here for the lunch special, and if I’m impressed by that, I will edit my review to show MR+ as a 5 star establishment!

3-stars is «A-OK,» and 4 stars is «Yay I’m a Fan.» I probably would think to give this restaurant a 3.5, but I was here on a 4-person dinner Groupon. Props because they were willing to do a 4-person dinner Groupon deal in the first place, which gave the meal added value. The food was tasty, but not memorable. My lasting impressions were(1) how the portions were small, and my friends and I were lucky because we all had some snacks prior to dinner, so did not leave hungry; and(2) how simple the dishes were. Look at the photos people have posted. A chunk of meat on a plate… that’s exactly what you’ll get.

MRP touts themselves as a casual steakhouse and that’s pretty much what you get. Their price point for their meats are around 50% of what I would have expected to pay at a fancy steakhouse so my expectations are adjusted accordingly. I do think it’s funny how they try to make everything sound way more mouth-watering by using descriptions like«wagyu», «prime», and«marbling» on their menu in order to entice you. Let’s be realistic; if it were as good as they make it sound, then there is no way that they can offer this to you at these prices and remain profitable — something has to give… They keep their front door locked until they were open(530pm?) so that was kind of annoying since we had a party of 10 waiting literally on their doorstep waiting for them to let us in… Their singular ambiance is casual and tinged in a red hue from the lighting behind the otherwise barren walls lined with flat screen tvs. If this is an attempt to be trendy and über chic I think it’s a FAIL, especially when paired with the somewhat dated acoustic tile ceilings. And for crying-out-loud — fix the damn flickering light enclosure near the front end of the dining area; we thought it was the tv screen changing at first, but my friend and I are convinced that the light fixture was messed up and that we couldn’t both be going crazy. I also hear that they have live music from time to time but none were present the evening we were there… Don’t expect them to have an extensive selection of wine. I not much of a wine connoisseur, but even I can tell that the wines that we had were on the low end, like $ 10 bottles of wine. I don’t believe that they have a full bar, a couple of people in our party had a beer from their limited selection. I don’t even think that they could manage an Arnold Palmer for me… The seared«Jumbo» Scallops and the Bacon Wrapped«Tiger» Prawns sound so awesome don’t they? Although they were plated well, my problem with the seafood was that they tasted rather bland. Missing was the sweetness usually associated from the meat of fresh shellfish, if I had to guess that usually means that these were frozen and defrosted. The arugula under the scallops help, as did the mango salsa and bacon on the shrimp, but these are suppose to be enhancements to pair with and contrast to the actual seafood, and not to be a crutch to mask their failings. I did not try the Ahi Mango Salad as someone else in our party ordered it as their entrée, but I would hope that the Ahi was fresh, I’ll admit that it looked good though… My better half had the 10oz «Wagyu» Flat-iron steak, a less tender cut, but very flavorful piece of meat. It was a decidedly petite cut of boneless beef, less juicy but not dry. I think that this is the best value steak on the menu, but I would be surprised if it were really Wagyu beef which usually costs a small fortune elsewhere. Hungrier appetites might not be satisfied. Served that evening with nicely crunchy haricot verts… I had the 16oz «plus cut» Prime Rib cooked medium rare(naturally) which was pretty satisfying. There was a fair amount of «marblng» in the center of cut or the eye as well as the cap end indicating that this was probably cut I would guess from the large end of the standing rib. I usually like a little fattiness because it adds to the flavor, as long as it isn’t excessive to the point where you’re simply paying for alot of fat. The meat was very juicy and delicious, I was pleased with my choice, although if pressed I would have to admit that it wasn’t the best piece of prime rib I’ve ever had. On a side note, I like to ask for the end cut because I like the intense flavors from the seasoning — I was surprised that it wasn’t available since we were one of the first parties in the restaurant for the evening(remember, we waited for them to open?)… I’m waiting for them to get a real website instead of simply using Facebook as their web presence, just another example of how they’re cutting corners, it makes them look cheap and unpolished… A solid three stars for ok steak at this price point…

The ambiance was casual, nothing fancy. The prices were decent for the steak prices $ 20-$ 40. I had the filet mignon and it was cold only because I ordered rare, so no compliant there. Also, you get to choose a side, so I choose mac and cheese… this was BLAND. Ew. The other order was prime rib, medium rare, with sweet potato fries. This was pretty good. The service wasn’t that great… however, I would recommend going somewhere else for a good steak like Flemings or Coco Palms.

Came here with my family on my Birthday. Petite Filet was very tender and good! Crispy Spicy wings were very good. I really did enjoy the food. Especially the very very very cold Blue Moon beer!!! I would expect a Happy Hour sometime in the near future!!! My wife had purchase the Groupon deal, so we did save some cash. What you get is a taste of what you can expect from Medium Rare Plus with your Groupon deal.

I had a dinner appointment with my fiancé & her family for 6pm on Thursday evening. Since I work in Burbank and didn’t get off until 6pm that night, I called my fiancé to let her know I would be late. I figured I would join them at the end of their meal since Burbank to Alhambra is pretty far. Fast forward 1 hour &15 min later(rush hour traffic + searching for parking), I arrived. To my surprise, my party didn’t even get their entrees yet! I found out they arrived at 5:45pm but weren’t seated because all tables were reserved even though many tables remained empty when they finally got seated at 6:30pm. While I agree reservations should get priority, they should at least call to the customers who made the reservations to confirm they are on their way & they will lose their reservations if they are not there by a certain time(i.e 15 min after their reserved time). When I arrived, my party saved me 2 chicken wing appetizers(very tasty) so I had something to snack on =). On to the review of my entrée — The portion size of the steak was laughable. My fiancé ordered me the 10 oz flat iron steak but it looked more like a 4 oz. I could of easily finish the steak with 4 or 5 bites. It also came with a small side of mac & cheese, which was larger in size than the steak. Though the portions were small & expensive($ 15 I think for the entrée), the food was actually good. Service wasn’t very attentive. We didn’t get any bread at the start of the meal & only found out when we saw another table that just got seated getting some =(. By then we were already done & ready for the check. Good thing we had a groupon, otherwise this visit would have been worse. Overall, the food was good but the portion size & lack of service do not warrant a return visit.

Came here last night and the service was just terrible! That is all that sticks out in my mind even though the food was actually good. If they get their act together, it could definitely boost their restaurant’s reputation. We came with the Groupon, so we got 2 side salads, an appetizer(chicken wings), 2 entrees(mini filet mignon and salmon), one dessert(we actually got 2 — crème brûlée and lava cake with ice cream & whipped cream), and 2 glasses of house wine(Cabernet and Zinfandel). We also ordered the Ahi salad. The side salads were small but tasty. They were like the packages you buy from costco or Ralphs — the mixed springs. The salmon salad was good. It was exactly like the side salads except with the Ahi slices on top. There were little chunks of mango in there too. The dressing was yummy! I don’t remember what kind it was though. The filet mignon was cooked the way we wanted. The edges were a bit tough though. Other than that, it was tasty. It was about the size of a normal adult’s fist. Not that big, but you get so many other dishes that it doesn’t need to be any bigger. The salmon was much smaller than the filet mignon. It was like 2 inches wide, 1 inch thick, and 5 inches long with a sauce on top. My family said that it was salty and that it was probably just the sauce. The chicken wings were very delicious! It had a good flavor to it and a nice crisp on the outside. I was pleasantly surprised! The wines were pretty good too. I didn’t expect much, so I was content with what I got. They both were smooth and not very strong tasting. The crème brûlée was very soft — it had a creamy texture and the crystalized sugar on top was yummy! The lava cake was very chocolatey with a gooey lava center. It came with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and whipped cream. I enjoyed the desserts very much! HOWEVER, it took them literally ~30 minutes to bring the desserts. They didn’t tell us, but I saw the servers talking to each other — the girl had told the guy(the manager?) that there was no lava cake on our order. After that, the guy came to our table and said, «The lava cake is coming… it’ll be about 2 minutes». Then we waited, and waited, and waited, and waited, and waited. Then the girl came by and said, «It’s coming.» Then after WAY too much time, the lava cake finally came. We finished eating our regular food by 8pm and we didn’t get to leave the restaurant until 845pm because of the wait for the dessert. Ridiculous! It is because they only have ONE server. The manager dude helps out too, but it’s not sufficient. Their customer service is lacking. Maybe they should consider hiring another server or devise a better plan of attack.

Not the juiciest steak place Got the groupon to come here which I didn’t know existed. The place décor and the name of the place is cool so it gets the 2 stars. The food however was not good. The steak was ok. I thought the skirt steak was better than the filet. But nothing really special about any of the food. Had to use A-1 steak sauce because it didn’t have any taste. The dessert was ok, got the chocolate soufflé. I give this place 2 stars for the effort. Service is ok.

So starting off I would have given this place a 4 in the beginning, but by the end in reality I should have given them a 1, but I am feeling generous. Never mind, girlfriend talked me into 1 star, cause it was terrible. I.e. unless you are one of the suckers who bought a groupon like myself, don’t go here. Atmosphere: Interior seems fine, not as crazy as some say. Just look at them pictures. My view = terrible, I took a picture. All the condiments for the whole place: 1 ketchup, 4 a1, 3 pairs of salt and pepper, 1 Tabasco. Doesn’t seem enough for all ~18 tables. Food: pretty mediocre, but when you factor in the price, it’s terrible. Free bread was fine. Hard flaky outside. Soft chewy inside, sticks to teeth.(3⁄5) Salad is fine, normal mixed green salad.(3⁄5) Chicken Wings came out Luke warm, were pretty good, tasted almost like orange chicken. Pretty mild flavor.(3⁄5) Fliet(4⁄5) is definitely better than flat steak(3⁄5). It doesn’t seem marbled enough to be Kobe to me, also you can see my picture, but I don’t think mine was medium rare but instead rare. Sweet potato fries was over cooked, i.e. burnt.(2⁄5) They have a bell pepper alió, tastes like bell pepper, a little spicy.(3.5÷5) And lava cake was not lava, I.e. No chocolate flowing inside just a chocolate cake(2⁄5). They have decent French Vanilla ice cream(3.5÷4). Service: Service is slow, and no one check on us until about 40 minutes went by. Flagged someone down and they still didn’t give a refill. So we had to flag someone else down and we finally got it and my correct drink. My guess is this place will be out of business in less than a year unless it really changes things around.

Like so many other reviewers before me, I wish I could have given this place 0 stars. Let’s start off with my day. My bf and I drove 7 hours from NorCal, through traffic, and another 10 minutes of wandering around for horrible parking before we decided to try this place. Afterwards, we ordered a miso salmon and a flat iron steak. 15 minutes later, the waiter comes over and tells me that they ran out of salmon. Okay, maybe you should have told me earlier while I was ordering… but I’m a calm person, and hey, things happen. After 7 hours in the car, I wasn’t super hungry so I look at the menu… hmm, ribeye for $ 2 per oz? I wanted a steak salad, so I asked if they could make a 4oz ribeye and give me a house salad. They said«okay no problem.» 10 minutes later, I realized that they never asked me how well I wanted the steak cooked. I called the guy over and asked… He THEN told me «Oh because the steak is so small we can only make it medium-well. The normal ribeye is 12oz.» Um, excuse me? If you had told me that when I first asked, I would have switched my order! So I told him to cancel the order(I eat my meat rare) and he tells me he will ask the chef to cook it to my preference and rushes off before I can insist to him to cancel the order. He then comes back and says«we will cook it med. rare» and rushes off again. I just want to cancel my order! The bf is still waiting for his food… and another 15 min. later we just say we want our food to-go and my order canceled. The manager tells us «Okay we will cancel your order if it hasn’t been cooked yet.» Number one: I want my order canceled. What are you going to do if it is cooked and I don’t want it? Number two: WHY is it NOT being cooked right now? The to-go box comes out and only my bf got his food(mine had apparently not even started cooking yet) and we pay full price. Not even a comp. for the beer OR a free appetizer while we waited. A whole hour gone. We asked the other couple next to us how long they got the order, and it took them quite a while too. The steak the bf got looked like a burnt hunk of meat. The meat was so chunky that some parts were well done and some were extremely rare. He only ate 2⁄3 of the portion and some of the mediocre mashed potatoes. Horrible management, horrible everything! Chefs must communicate with employees, who must then communicate with the customers! I will NEVER come here again! I have never had such a horrible experience at a restaurant… I was so angry I was in tears!

Four stars for the service, three stars for the food. I went there with a groupon and the service is super nice and the food is also not bad. I had the salmon and my cousin had the flat iron steak. We also shared the scallop appetitzer and crème brûlée dessert. The scallop had a little bit too much baking soda. But overall, the food taste quite ok.

The BF and I used the Groupon deal, $ 30 for $ 66. We came on a Saturday night, right when they opened, and the place quickly filled up. House Bread– good. slightly toasted and warm, just the way i like it. Crab Cakes($ 8) — 2 small cakes, and I mean SMALL. they were pretty good, crisp, and meaty. the sauce has a nice kick to it. Mixed Green Salad($ 5) — typical salad. fresh. except it came in these huge square bowls that I’m not a fan of. 10 oz. Flat Iron w/Rice Pilaf($ 15), 5 oz. Petite Filet Mignon w/Sweet Potato Fries($ 15) –PERFECTLYCOOKED to medium rare. the meat was very TENDER, which realli suprised me. the butter on top slightly excessive. a confident steak house would not need that much butter, nor would they need A1 steak sauce readily available. they could also cut down on the burnt/charcoal-y taste. but super yummy fries! Chocolate Lava Cake w/Ice Cream($ 6) — YUM. the oozing chocolate was all nice and warm. the BF doesn’t really like chocolate that much, so i devoured the whole thing :) thanks for not liking chocolate. Banana Foster?- because the chocolate lava cake took forever to come out, we were given a free banana foster thing… a very nice gesture. but a litttle too sweet and too much rum. Interior Design– overly simplistic and barren. they definitely need something to make it more comfortable, welcoming, and unique. candles would help, instead of only recessed lighting. I understand it’s a «casual» steak house, but that shouldn’t mean blank walls w/mirrors and random horse-shoes. Staff– very friendly and nice. the owner, Brian, introduced himself to us. just one suggestion for the dress code… is it dress shirts or t-shirts? slightly confused there. Flow– it seemed a little rush, as everything seemed to come out at once(except for the dessert). we told Brian, and he was already aware of it. Music– we didn’t get to hear the live band, but we did hear them say«check check» a couple times. perhaps they should do the sound check before the restaurant opens. Overall, the BF and I enjoyed our visit here. The restaurant is still in its early stages. I’m sure the next time we visit, the kinks will have worked out.

3.5 stars(3 stars: food, 4 stars: service) Groupon here as well. Was a bit nervous about going in because of the mixed reviews but I had a really good experience here! The service was super on top of it and our server came around to our table frequently asking how we were doing. Overall: friendly & attentive service. Food, however, more on the average side: Appetizer: wanted the fried oysters but they were out so we got the scallops instead. 2 scallops with a little bit of greens. Bf thought they were underseasoned. The table next to us got chicken wings, and those looked awesome! and had at least 5 – 6 wings! Entrees: I got the salmon w/rice pilaf. Salmon was cooked well, flaky but had a fishy taste(meaning it wasn’t super fresh). Yummy rice pilaf. Bf got the steak, also thought it was slightly underseasoned, and mashed potatoes side, creamy & good portioned. Dessert: My favorite! Warm lava cake with ice cream & whip cream. Yummmmmmm! Décor is a bit strange, felt like they were going for a minimalist approach, but not succeeding. Live jazz is nice, but it was pretty loud & difficult to have a conversation. With the groupon, we spent $ 45 in total($ 30 — groupon, $ 15 — tax & tip), so still kinda pricey, which makes me uncertain whether or not I would be back, but it is nice to have more non-Asian restaurants around the area. Parking: large parking structure on 1st& Main. 1st is a 1 way street, so enter from Commonwealth.

Now, I can honestly say I’ve found a decent steak house within 5 miles from me! The service here was great-Brian(who is the owner) was very accommodating and friendly. We were drawn to this place by the groupon 2 for $ 30 deal. First of all, if you are coming here on the weekend, I suggest you call in and ask what the wait time is because with a max capacity of 50 people, I’m Sure you’ll be waiting a while before you get seated! On to the food— practically everything we ate was good except my husbands flat iron steak which tasted a bit charcoal-y. Here’s what we had: –flat iron steak w/sweet potato fries –petite filet mignon w/rice pilaf –2 salads –crab cakes –sweet chili chicken wings –crème brûlée –glass of red merlot and 2 sodas Total w/the groupon: $ 14.00(because we ordered an extra appetizer and drink) Friendly service, decent portions and casual ambiance – I like it!

Casual steakery?!? Um HELLO, awesomeness, I love you! Came in thanks to a great groupon deal. 4 course meal for 2, for $ 30! WOWEE! Was not sure what to expect, what with casual and steak, and it was just that! thre was a piano, and mirrors, wine, and crab cakes, but there was also flip flops, western décor, and casual seating. it’s different, but i like it! the food itself was pretty good! the bacon-wrapped shrimps were delish! great appetizer. a little small, but the flavors were fantastic. salad was decent sized, normal house salad. the steak was tender and well flavored. we opted for the wagyu, but next time i want to try the filet mignon for sure. for these prices, you are getting a pretty dang good steak! finally, the chocolate lava cake came out oozy and delicious, and in a good portion. it was just enough to satisfy, without overstuffing. owner was walking around and he was SONICE! really showed that he wanted the place to be homey, and do well. will definitely be back.

I bought a groupon for Medium Rare Plus about 2 weeks ago and decided to visit this place with my gf on a Tuesday night. I put my name on the waiting list with the manager and he said there would be about a 15 minute wait. My gf and I decided to sit at the bar so we could order a drink in the meantime. 30 minutes pass, nothing. Nobody behind the bar even acknowledged us. At this point, I’m getting quite frustrated. I attempt to make some eye contact with the manager to try to get his attention. He looks back, apologizes for the wait, and offered us two free drinks. I would have paid for the drink, but I’m not gonna turn down a freebie! If you’ve ever played Airport Mania, the free drinks were the equivalent of playing a movie in the airplane… a temporary fix for the EXTRASLOW service. Another 10 minutes pass and still no seating for us… even though I observed a couple of open tables. I counted the number of workers … 2 waiters, 1 bus boy, 1 manager, 1 cook(yes he was delivering food from the kitchen… why? I have no clue), NO bartenders. So we finally get our seat after a total of 50 minutes. As for the food we had: Crab Cakes 2 salads(balsalmic dressing) 2 filet steaks 1 chocolate cake dessert. The crab cake was okay, fried nicely, but I could tell they didn’t use fresh crab. The balsalmic dressing for the salad was WAY too sour. I don’t even think it was balsalmic. *CRINGE. It was like using pure white vinegar. As for the steaks, they had good flavor on them. Meat was of decent quality. Too bad one of them was WAY undercooked. I know I requested medium rare, but the tendons inside the meat should at least be melted. The chocolate cake was decent for a hershey’s kiss chocolate cake. Total dinner/wait time … 2 hours and 30 minutes. That is UNACCEPTABLE. The servers were nice, but all of them were ridiculously under trained. At one point, the manager reached across our table, between my gf and I, to give the waiter a couple of menus. Isn’t that in the book Basic Server Skills 101 of things NOT to do? Honestly, if I had paid full price for the food, I’d be even more pissed at this place. Even with the groupon($ 30), this place only deserves 2 stars. 1 for the manager trying to make things right with complimentary drinks, and another for a decent tasting steak. I will not return.

After some salsa action the wife and I were ready to get our grub on. There were many choices near by, so we hit up this one, and boy it was well worth it. I was going to hit up the Kobe burger, but they ran out, so I went with the Steak, and the wife went with the fish. To accompany the steak, I ordered a side of garlic mash and the wife sweet potato fries. First off, the helpings were the bomb. These are generous helpings. The steak, my o my, talk about mouth watering! Who needs that A1 crap when you have a steak that is this good. The fish, well, lets just say the lemon and caper sauce, ohhhh so good. The fish my wife devoured, and the broccoli, well, my wife FINISHEDIT!!! She hates, and I do mean hates broccoli, but she put some of the caper and lemon sauce on it, and it was a dream. Her plate was as clean as a new one out of the store. Mt steak and garlic mashed, I took care of that faster than a cowboy at a shootout. Of course, to top off our victory, I had to order their Vanilla crème broulet This was smooth going down the pipe. My goodness, I thought I was in heaven. Our server Jamie, the manger Brian, were awesome. Brain came by and made sure we were OK as well as Jamie. They were on top of their game. We also met the singing crew that was entertaining that night. Bub was one of the guys and he can play a mean sax. We also met the owner, I think his name is Cecil, but I may be wrong, and he was a great guy. I had to tell him how great the food was. This was their official grand opening, so they ran out of a few things, but next time I am going to attack the Kobe Burger. Alhambra, you have given me a new favorite spot! Keep up the great work Brian and Jamie. Wait wait, I cant forget the hostess Monica. Sorry about that. Monica, you did an awesome job as well. Your smile and attitude was great! When your in Alhambra, you have to hit up this place.

Went on a Friday night with my wife. The owner informed us that they were in their 2nd week of operation, and for 9pm on a Friday night they were still pretty busy. We tried their glazed chicken wings and bacon-wrapped tiger shrimp for appetizers. Their wings are fantastic! Although I’m usually a fan of spicy hot wings, their tangy(non-spicy) wings did not disappoint! They were crispy, yet juicy on the inside, and the sauce was delicious! The bacon-wrapped shrimp were good. They were unique in that the bacon was somehow made crispy after being wrapped around the shrimp, which was cooked perfectly. I have no idea how the chef managed to have crispy bacon around a juicy shrimp without burning one or undercooking the other, but the end result was tasty. It’s just too bad an order only consists of 2 shrimp. Our favorite dish of the night was their Ahi Mango Salad, which is large enough to be a light meal in itself. The Ahi tuna was seared on the outside, left sushi-style on the inside. If you’re a sushi fan, this ahi tuna was done perfectly. Several slices of ahi tuna, a bit of mango, and some sort of vinaigrette dressing = delicious salad! We would go back for this salad alone! Our entrees were the Rib Eye, and Rack of Lamb. We had both cooked medium-rare(of course). The Rib-Eye was decent for the price. It was cooked to a true medium-rare, and seasoned lightly. The meat was juicy and we had the option of choosing how many ounces large we wanted(went with 8 ounces). The rib-eye is priced by the ounce, by the way. It was not the best rib-eye I’ve ever had, but it was also not the most expensive rib-eye I’ve ever had. I think that you get a very good steak for a reasonable price. I was not disappointed. The Rack of Lamb was a little underwhelming. The portion was small, and the lamb was dry and didn’t have a strong lamb taste that lamb-lovers like myself like. Granted, it was probably the least expensive Rack of Lamb I’ve ever had, but in retrospect I think the steak offerings would have been a better choice. For dessert: Their Crème Brulee is PERFECT. My wife and I were very surprised, this was honestly the best Crème Brulee we’ve ever had. They came in little cups and were very«cute» as my wife put it. This was a pleasant surprise, as the taste of this dessert was on the level of a high-end restaurant! Both the owner and the general manager made rounds throughout the restaurant and checked in on everybody. Service was friendly and fast. The live music was not too loud and the player was pretty good. We liked the look of the place. It felt casual as far as steakhouses go, the food was good, and service was excellent. We will definitely go back. Although the steak wasn’t as good as some of the high-end steakhouses, it was very good for the price. I’d much rather go here and get a steak, appetizers, and a beer for the price of a steak alone at a fancy high-end steakhouse.

I noticed the previous restaurant’s signage taken down a few months ago, and was very curious to see what would happen with the space. Medium-Rare Plus gets a solid 3 stars, and once they work out the new restaurant jitters, I’m sure it be rated higher by the other Unilocalers. The highlights: mac & cheese — I have tried making homemade mac & cheese and failed miserably. This mac & cheese is shockingly good. I liked how it was served in a ramekin with a bread crumb topping, and when you stick your fork in it, it pulls away in tiny strings. Processed cheese would pull away smoothly, but the homemade taste and texture are unmistakable. scallops — two scallops served on greens with a warm dressing that reminds me of Chinese oyster sauce. Very nicely cooked, and not overdone, which I think is very easy to do with scallops. They were still tender in the middle salad — it’s hard to screw up salad, but there was a little difficulty on this one. We got our salad fine, and the runner was nice enough to ask what kind of dressing we wanted. When our question was, «Well, what do you have?» our runner had to run back and check. It turns out that we had a choice of 3(ranch, Caesar or sesame) but what if we had said«bleu cheese» or «French?» I chalk it up to just being a new restaurant, and it’s ok. This stuff happens. By the way, get the sesame dressing. prime rib — There were parts of the dish that I liked, and didn’t like. The meat itself was fine, and the horseradish sauce is the perfect blend of spicy/creamy. What I wasn’t crazy about was the au jus. It was both light in color, and didn’t have much depth in taste. I think if the au jus was collected differently, it would be fine. crème brûlée — this is honestly the PERFECT size and it doesn’t taste eggy at all, which is my main complaint of most crème brulees. My only suggestion was that the kitchen torch the crème brulees right before they are served. The one we got was torched, but had lost the glassy top layer because it was torched too far ahead of time. In a new restaurant, time is of the essence so it’s completely understandable that this might happen, but it’s not as much fun to get a crème brûlée that doesn’t have the crispy glass top. The owner was going around to tables & asking people how their food was, which I love to see. He said that the menu will expand soon, and it’s a nice addition to neighborhood restaurants that are within walking distance. Last suggestion — maybe add a baked potato to the dinner menu? For a place that’s been open only 1 week, they are definitely trying hard.
