The best Big Mac ever! I ordered the bean and cheese burrito and got what was questionably the most ridiculous frostie.

It’s hard to get lamb right. Bistro Anju does lamb right. What INCREDIBLE flavor! This was definitely my favorite Omakase Course. The green tea crème brûlée is quite delightful as well. While I wasn’t a big fan of the deep fried Chilean sea bass, the boyfriend seemed to really enjoy it. And I can recognize it for creativity. Points for using real wasabi for the Nigiri Sushi as well. Will definitely come back, and try some other interesting items off the menu.

Excellent food prepared and served by Japanese workers. Authentic and delicious. Coming from Japanese heritage myself, I enjoy the Japanese environment and hearing all workers speak Japanese to each other. Head chef really cares that his customers get great food. I order sushi every time and it’s ALWAYS fresh and they usually have the special more exotic choices, and the chef will point out the premium sushi which is excellent. This place is pricier than most but well worth it. The servers are extremely diligent and friendly. This is my new go to sushi place. Even turned my mother(1st gen) on to this place.

Best Sushi in OC so far ! Fresh flown fish from Japan. We loved the small rice portion to accentuate the fish’s delicious portions. Friendly staff and the chef is a true artist in creating superb dishes to enjoy on a Friday night, after a busy work week. Happy to be moving close by too ! Julie T.

The sashimi is of the most excellent quality! The grilled items are amazing as well-would recommend the grilled yellowtail cheek as an appetizer! Probably the best sushi place-quality wise– in the Aliso area!

Decent cuts of fish and the real crab California roll was delicious, but the price was way too high. There are many sushi joints so I probably won’t come back. Service is nice though and if you do come here, salmon belly, oysters and snapper/whitefish was good.

Best sushi restaurant in Aliso Viejo and its surrounding areas! Fresh sushi at reasonable price. The lunch is good too while the price is fair.

I came here for dinner and the food and service is good. I felt like I was in a cozy restaurant in Tokyo. The prices are very high compared to other sushi restaurants in Aliso, other than that sushi and udon are very good.

Fast and friendly service. Not the best sushi I’ve ever had but it was definitely good. My favorite item was the plum wine that they offer. It was sweet and delicious; I can’t say that for wines in general except dessert wines. I also really like the albacore Tataki as well. It came with about 6 – 7 pieces on top of garnish. My least favorite thing was the oyster shooter. It tasted like all alcohol and I was expecting there to be more ponzu flavor. The fish eggs I could not finish in the shooter either as the liquid went down faster than the fish eggs. I’d only consider going back if I lived in the area since SoCal has so many delicious sushi options.

This place is a part of my poke research I’ve been conducting in the Aliso Viejo area. Place is small and very popular around lunch so anticipate a wait if you’re with a bigger group on a weekday lunch. With that said, the lunch specials are reasonable, well portion sized, and delicious. I had the salmon poke don, which at lunch is served with miso soup and a salad with ginger dressing. At $ 9.50 with the sides, it is a steal.

This place wasn’t terrible, but it wasn’t amazing either. Given we did think it was primarily a sushi restaurant at first, once we arrived we realized it was Japanese fusion instead. The service was slow even though there was only a couple people dining however our food arrived very quickly after we ordered. We ordered the tornado roll, real California roll, popcorn roll, and blue fin tuna sushi. The fish was very fresh on the blue fin and the tornado roll was very unique with its smoky flavor but the rest of the rolls weren’t impressive. We’re going to give this place another try and try their plates and bowls instead

Definitely the best sushi in this part of Orange County. Bidtro Anju is a tiny little restaurant in Aliso Viejo hidden behind a gas station in a quiet strip of retail shops. What makes Bistro Anju legitimate is the following. Service: You are always guaranteed exceptional service from the second you step into the door, the moment you excuse yourself to the restroom and as soon as you step out. The chefs always warmly welcome incoming patrons, and the waitresses are always attentive and polite, and the entire restraurant is clean and comfy. The Food: Bistro Anju is an amazing establishment for real amazing Japanese food. The food is authentic and fresh. But they do exercise their artistic side with their toro trutfle uni dish. I always enjoy their omakase sushi dinner or chirashi because it really is what Japanese food should be. The fish is exceptionally fresh, delicious and perfectly prepared. The food truly is an artform at Bistro Anju. Lets be honest, the food is so so yummy. The service is so so great. What more can you ask for? Its hard not to think about your next visit as soon as you step out the door

Was referred here by one of my clients who have lived in the AV area for a while. Bistro Anju is comparable to my # 1 sushi spot in OC — Ohshima. The advantage that Bistro Anju has is the distance from my new location/house(about 3 miles) and best of all, there’s no wait here. Definitely coming back!

Another OC sushi joint that disappoints. I’m not familiar with the area, so I try to find sushi spots with good ratings… and so far, all of them have been miserable. I do want to start off by saying that the waitresses here are pretty nice. And their hot sake price is very reasonable. I will also say that their scallop sushi was fantastic… but everything else was less than average. Firstly, the ika sushi we ordered was not raw. It tasted like it was smoked? Or at least cooked. And it was chewy in the way that cooked squid is chewy. I deeply regretted ordering this one. Pass on it. Secondly, the hamachi quality on our sushi was very average and cut very thin. Another pass. Thirdly, my boyfriend asked for them to swap out their regular tuna for the blue fin tuna for a hand roll, despite the extra price. It looked so unappetizing and my boyfriend didn’t even finish it… meaning it must’ve tasted as bad as it looked. And lastly, they didn’t even put in the sashimi appetizer we ordered. We didn’t get an apology. We just asked for our check to continue dinner elsewhere. All in all– it was quite a disappointing experience, and they are grossly overpriced for the lack of quality & service they provide. I’m so confused as to how sushi restaurants near the beach have been so underwhelming. Am I just spoiled by LA sushi restaurants? I need help finding actually decent sushi places in OC! :(

Another solid entry in the long list of goo sushi joints in OC. For me, this is a bit out of the way so I will not be making special trips this way, but it remains an option if I am in the area for other reasons. We had a selection of fish and everything was good. For me, most of the fish was fine as served, with sauces or salts complementing the fish, not hiding it. We also had two of the more creative rolls, one with tuna and the other salmon(don’t recall the names) and they were both good. I kind of expect places to go wild with the rolls, but for sushi, I like the fish to speak for itself.

Decent sushi, we had a yellowtail roll with scallops… a bit fishy and $ 15…about the size of a traditional hot dog. Also had a $ 23 bowl of rice and sashimi that was big enough to feed a disinterested kitten and nothing more. We ordered edamame that took 20+ minutes to come out. We didn’t say anything but they apologize and said it takes a long time because they make it fresh??? It was cold when we got it. Water was empty the entire meal. Had to ask two different servers to get some more. Bill took about 45 minutes to arrive after our last bite. We were not in a rush so we just hung out… but really. Another 10 to swipe the card. The place is pretty busy, but they staff it like a lemonade stand in winter. Meal was decent, not great. Wanted to like the place, but totally not worth the effort or money to come here. If I was unfortunate enough to end up here again, I’d insist on sitting at the bar and I’d bring my own bottle of water and would only order sushi, no rolls, no plates, no servers.

My first visit here — and a first ordering off an uncooked sushi menu for me. We were the 2nd to arrive, but the small place quickly filled up during a weekday lunch. Service was very sweet-and-pleasant, welcoming, and friendly. I ordered the Sashimi lunch, allowing me to sample a few different fish, which was served with a nice, hot(big plus!), flavorful miso soup, and colorful and tasty side salad. A bowl of rice accompanied the attractively-presented entrée; the sushi was tasty, especially dipped in a mixture of soy sauce and wasabi; the entire lunch was filling, but felt clean, fresh, and… guilt-free. I’m not a big(raw) sushi fan, but I truly enjoyed my dining experience here!

Sashimi is not supposed to be sliced so thick. Apart from that, the place was ok. Will not go back. Unless they cut my sashimi like way thinner so I don’t gag.

First visit and I’d have to say it was a great experience. A couple more times at this high level and I may have to move them up to 5 stars, but that needs to be earned. It’s a small space so there was a little wait, but it was a Friday night and that can be expected. Only frustration I had was that they don’t have their menu posted anywhere online so I had to go in to make sure there was something my son could eat. He’s allergic to seafood so it’s a concern at a sushi spot. I had the omakase sushi chef selection and it was very good. The raw fish was excellent and I think I know what sushi items I would select next time. My son had tonkatsu don combo which came with a sashimi salad so I ate that as well. The fish in the salad was also very fresh and melted like butter. We also shared a ribeye Japanese style and it was perfectly cooked and delicious. Service was excellent and very speedy once we sat so I’d have to say it was a 4+ star dinner.

If you are looking for the best sushi in Aliso Viejo, you need look no further than Bistro Anju. While the name may sound French, the owner, Hideki San, named it in honor of his late mother. This is no run of the mill sushi restaurant; everything is fresh and perfectly prepared. We came in for dinner on Saturday evening and had an amazing experience sitting at the bar. We set the menus aside and let Hideki San do the driving. We started off with an amazing sashimi selection and then moved on to amazing sushi selections(yellow tail, albacore, toro, Japanese scallops, sea urchin and many more) as well as a special roll or two. The rice was also perfectly prepared. The sake selection is also great, and we paired a nice dry sake with the meal(Hideki San can help with that selection, as well). To sum it all up, perfect sushi, perfect service, perfect atmosphere. You won’t regret choosing Bistro Anju.

I’ve been here for lunch on two occasions and my office has them cater a sushi lunch every month. Everything I’ve tried here is solid. The sushi is excellent. The toro is fatty and perfectly marbled. The sweet shrimp tasted fresh and the salmon was super buttery. I was in sushi heaven. And, as I’ve stated in previous reviews, I’m a pig, so I ordered a pork katsu-don as well and, although it was fairly small for my American appetite, it was very tasty. The food here is authentic Japanese as well as the portion sizes. If you’re like me, you should probably be ordering for two. The food is also a bit pricier than some other places, but I would say the quality is definitely there. Overall, I’d agree with Justin B. and give it 3.5 stars. Oh, and the restauant is pretty small, so if you don’t score a table, you’ll probably end up at the sushi bar, which isn’t always a bad thing! An authentic Japanese restaurant in the boroughs of Aliso Viejo – you don’t see that every day!
