We came here for First Bite Boulder and had a lovely evening. It’s a charming little log building. The service was friendly and attentive. I loved the house salad – super fresh vegetables and light, delicious dressing. Their fresh baked bread and homemade butter was also great. The pork entrée(Black Forest rouladen) I had was pretty good, but it was fairly small and there wasn’t a ton of flavor. My boyfriend had the smoked trout entrée which was pretty good as well. This was a great deal, and I would love to try the regular menu sometime, but it is about an hour and a half away from Denver, so it will have to wait for a very special occasion.

First, this is not a hotel or inn. It is one of Colorado’s oldest and finest restaurants. Five-star dining in a beautiful mountain setting. Tremendous, and hand-crafted food. Amazing wine list, especially considering you are deep in the mountains. Service and food or traditional and a meal can take 2 to 3 hours. Regulars come here for the dining experience as well as the food. I particularly enjoyed the schnitzel and the white burgundy they sell there. My wife enjoys the seafood curry. Also, would recommend the trout and the Cesar salad. Wish Unilocal would get this one categorized correctly. Is one of the best places to dine in Colorado

What a terrific evening! This gourmet gem is hidden in the small mountain hamlet of Allenspark. Rustic mountain charm, great service(leisurely), beautiful gardens and an army of hummingbirds in the summer. The lobster curry is the best I have had anywhere. And oh-my-God the cream of fruits and berries soup with peach and raspberries? Give me a bucket. Lovely wine list. Totally worth the drive from Denver.

Amazing, wonderful place! So cozy and charming and wonderful friendly Austrian owners. Best beef Wellington and goulash I have ever had, fresh garden lettuce and herbs, and a beautiful garden to sit and enjoy a cup of coffee. Everything I have ever had here has been so wonderful. Sunday brunch is fantastic and a bit cheaper if you are looking to spend less. Love the comfortable atmosphere and fireplace, with only about 10 tables, make a reservation for dinner!

Five star restaurant in a historic log cabin atmosphere. We were served a six course meal by a friendly professional staff. The owner came by several times to chat. I had the duck and my daughter had a delicious steak. The deserts were amazing. Soufflé served in an orange and the chocolate mouse. This is a special occasion place. We were celebrating the end of our four day Inn to inn hike through the Rocky Mountain National Park.

I was at this restaurant probably 24 yrs ago. It was a fond memory of a lunch w/family in the beautiful mtns of Colorado. Just went back for a brother’s 50th birthday — family gathered from different parts of the country to celebrate and this is where he wanted to go. After looking at the menu and reading reviews, I tried to offer other suggestions as it seemed to have not changed with the times, except the prices kept pace. He had his heart set on it so we went — definitely a a throwback to the 80s. The exterior is charming but the interior has not been updated in a very long time — granted it is a log cabin type bldg but even updating the linens in white, instead of pale green would have helped. The entrees were big heavy meals with lots of sauces — nothing out of the ordinary. Salads were overdressed, and vegetables uninspiring. For prices that averaged $ 45/entrée I would have liked to be inspired. Service was very slow — two wait staff for the whole restaurant. I heard that the restaurant is for sale — owners have been ready to retire for a while it seems. I could see this being taken over by a type of restaurant that would be a farm to table type food — organic, and fresh. Could be an amazing place!

Food was good but service was really, really slow. Might have been a bad night.

To enjoy this unique restaurant, you need to anticipate true, old-world food and service. Sauces are plentiful and rich; not much vegitarian on the menue, and continental starters and deserts. If you want a special, intimate dinner for a small group, they may be able to give you the«wine room» for your party. It is as expensive as any other fine dining restaurant in Denver or the foothills, but in my estimation worth it. Don’t expect much from the surrounding town of Allenspark, just enjoy the ride through the low mountains to get there. My wife and I saw a grey wolf cross our path on the way home late at night the last time we were there.

5 star it is not. Overpriced it is. This must be what a small mountain town thinks a 5 star restaurant should be — pretentious, expensive, and stuck in the 80s. I bet it was a beautiful little place to visit in it’s prime — but that time is long gone. We had the Chateaubriand for two. Presentation was overly florid, the pheasant pâté was dry and tasteless, the beef had a weird metallic taste. I did enjoy the lemon tart dessert — but it was nothing special. The entire meal lacked any passion or unique quality. It was just hotel-wedding food service bland. They do pour a great vodka tonic.
