Loved this place! We had the nachos which were unique and extremely delicious. The tacos were fresh, tasty, and fast. The service was also excellent. Limited seating — but worth the wait!

So I was looking for a yummy brunch place in the Brighton/Allston and in the mood for huevos rancheros, which is how I stumbled on lone star taco bar. I had heard the name before from other friends who had either said it was good or wanted to try it. I ventured here with a friend on a cold saturday morning and kind of struggled to find it. There’s no signage outside other than an actual star, but I knew it was right by deep ellum so at least I had an idea of where it would be. Walked in, was greeted and seated quickly. Much appreciated on a cold, winter morning. My friend ordered a bloody maria which was good for the first few sips but was overall a tad bit too salty. We ordered the huevos rancheros and chorizo taco to split and held onto the menu to order more later… although we never did. Huevos rancheros were aite, the tomato/salsa was a little too liquidy. It was meh, nothing special. Same goes for the chorizo taco. Nothing to rave about. We weren’t really satisfied at the end of it but also had no desire to order more(we actually had a second brunch after, don’t judge). The food was okay, not very flavorful. I don’t think I would come back, sadly.

One of my favorite places for tacos! Both the Baja fish and beef Barbacoa tacos are superb, especially if you add their homemade sweet potato hot sauce! Was visiting the Boston area and the place we stayed at was right across the street from here. We stumbled in after the Celtics game cuz we needed a late night snack. The tacos here are creative and tasty. I’ve tried the barbacoa and pork tacos along with some grilled street corn. All hits in my book. This place took me back to my days in Austin and definitely tamed my Tex mex craving.

A taco is a taco is a taco, right? WRONG. Lone Star Taco Bar does a lot of things Mexican right… and tacos are just one of them. I respect a place that has brunch everyday until 4PM(because sometimes I am lazy, and alternatively, sometimes I want breakfast items for lunch, but) I revere this place for its brunch because of their phenomenal breakfast tacos. These amazing tacos come with the option of homemade chorizo(its delicious add it — it has a nice meaty flavor and it does NOT add a ton of grease — actually little at all). These breakfast tacos are by no means a «Juan in a million» migas plate — the standard of any breakfast burrito or taco in my book, but I could eat them all day. I am happy to find a place that serves a delicious version in Boston. Holy cow, fish, and pork(seriously). Starting with my least favorite and ending with my most delicious: 1) The beef barbacoa was a decent taco made from a good marinade on beef brisket and garnished with pickled red onion and avocado crema(the beef is juicy and good but crema is the star). It’s a good beef taco, if that is your thing. 2) The California style fish taco with fried«catch of the day» whitefish, pickled cabbage, and chili mango aioli is probably the best fish taco I have had in the Boston area. The fish fry was a little on the greasy side(but not saturated), the pickled cabbage was awesome, and the chili mango aioli was a nice«sweet but spicy» addition. 3) My favorite taco of the day, second only to the breakfast taco, was the pork carnitas with salsa verde. This taco is authentic — «Texas airlifted to Boston» good. The meat is so tender and juicy; the salsa is a bit tart/bitter — in a way that compliments the pork perfectly. I am going to have serious troubles in the future deciding between a plate of these bad boys, or breakfast tacos(I will definitely get both). I never understood the fascination of folks for grilled street corn, that is, until I begrudgingly tried it at Lone Star Taco Bar. Thank God I have friends who have seen the light. This corn is the bomb. They have a nice amount of char, very sweet corn, cotija, cilantro and some amazing chili lime aioli(that I could not get enough of — luckily it is slathered all over the plate). Unfortunately, I took the photo after we ate the corn — it was too delicious to stop eating it once we started. Finally, the drinks. If you like them of the alcoholic variety… you should have them here. I had the breakfast margarita(St. Germain, grapefruit juice, tequila) and a standard«on the rocks» margarita. Both were delicious. There are only three drawbacks to this amazing place: 1) There is no sign on the door — it is located right next to Deep Ellum. 2) Little parking. 3) The venue is small(there are multiple locations, which may solve all of these problems).

Love. The food is amazing, seriously good tacos and queso. Also, the drinks were very very good. Anywhere that does a bloody mary type drink with tequila, bless you. The atmosphere is so chill, I think it’s a great date spot. You can just sit and talk. The employees were my favorite. Glen was our bartender and we met countless other employees while sitting at the bar(Alice I believe?). They were all great and talked to us like we were all friends. New fav spot.

Glad I finally got to try Lone Star! It’s right next door to Deep Ellum. It’s a very small dining area, but pretty empty on a Monday night around 9:30PM. I can only imagine how packed it’d be on a weekend. They have about eight choices for tacos, $ 4 each. My favorite was probably the smoked brisket. My boyfriend really enjoyed the baja fish taco; it’s on the sweeter side. Some of the tacos were a bit on the greasier side. I also tried the chips and guac. The chips came out nice and hot and the guac was very fresh! You can ask for more chips or use it for your tacos. We had a side of beans and rice. It was good, but the issue I had with it is that I preferred if it was hot. It came out room temperature, slightly on the warmer side. The drinks were really good as well! I had the Hemingsway Daiquiri and it had just the right amount of sweet and alcohol to it. The waitress actually saw me spill it though… And she comped, which was unexpected and very good service on their part! Lone Star is a very solid place for your taco and cocktail fix. Service was great and food/drinks came out promptly. I recommend coming on a weekday when it’s not so crowded!

I found this place through Unilocal and am glad I did! A couple of colleagues and I were in the area for a work related appointment and needed to kill a bit of time with a drink and some food before making the crawl back home at rush hour. The only downside of this place is that there are no signs! All of the storefronts in the street had signs and I only assumed this was the place as I saw a cactus in the window. I tried my first Chelado — Mexican beer on ice with line and salted rim. It was pretty refreshing and good. The tacos were very tasty! I had three — Baja fish, Barbacoa and the special which was pork with pineapple salsa. They all had a variety of textures and flavors. Very tasty! I would definitely stop back here if ever in the area.

Lone Star makes some seriously good tacos. I’ve been here maybe 8 or 9 times for lunch and generally get the same line up: carnitas, fish, and barbacoa and a shared plate of the ‘victory’ nachos. Once in a while they’ll have a «special» taco, and I’ve tried a few of those. Everything is always delicious and very fresh tasting, and the beer selection is ever-changing and adventurous, and excellent. I’ve never had a bad meal. So why not 5 stars? It’s a little expensive — three tacos are $ 12, plus a 6 or 7 dollar beer, plus kick in a few more dollars for the nachos, and you’re pushing mid-20s for lunch. It’s good value — no question the food and drink are high-end — but still just a bit pricey. Also, the lunchtime wait staff seems to have turned over a few times over the past few months. Everyone’s friendly and hard-working, but the new folks just don’t seem as fluent as the folks who used to be there. All-in-all — great tacos and beer. You can get a fantastic lunch at Lone Star.

Lone Star Taco Bar was hard to find, as there’s no outside signage, as far as I could see. I went at night, so maybe it was harder to see? I was walking around outside looking for the place, and this guy is standing outside looking not that friendly. But I need to eat. So I ask him, is this Lone Star Taco Bar? And he says, «show me your ID». Kind of MI-5 like. Or scary. Anyway. LSTB is a small, long restaurant, galley-style, and it’s a real bar, hence the ID check. It’s attached to Deep Ellum, and I heard they even share the same kitchen. The food was darn good. Done more fusion style than authentic, but wow. The Mexican corn was awesome. I know that tangy mayo sauce is bad for me, but I kept dipping things in it anyway, including my finger. Fish tacos came out crispy and with healthy sized portions of fish. Carnitas tacos were really standouts as well. At $ 4 per taco, I didn’t feel ripped off, let’s say that. We also ordered the chili and some other stuff off the limited menu, and they were pretty good, but I think I’ll stick to the corn and tacos next time. Prices are reasonable, if not on the cheaper side. I’ll definitely go again, though maybe at a less busy time. Saturday night was super crowded and we had to wait maybe 15 – 20 minutes for our table for a group of 5. One suggestion… Invest in a sign for the store!

Starting as a sister restaurant to Allston’s Deep Ellum, Lone Star Taco Bar now boasts two locations(second on the far-side of Inman Square in Cambridge) with an innovative and tasty menu for snacks or a meal. The ingredients are fresh and cooked well. While some of the tacos are on the smaller side, the presentation and blending of flavors in unique sauces are the destination. Also serving brunch everyday until 4PM. Recommend one tostada and one to two tacos per person for a modest appetite. The Dallas spicy beef taco stands out as it oozes with a zesty punch. Mushrooms add an extra layer of tender«meatiness». The chorizo is made in-house and is firm in texture, packed with queso fresco and a dash of lime. The Baja fish is larger with the traditional fried(beer battered) white fish and sweet slaw to compliment the pleasantly spicy mango aioli. Make sure to listen for special tacos that change daily. The refried bean or chicken ranchero tostadas are an incredible deal and honestly filling enough for a small meal on their own. Layered on top of a crunchy tortilla, the creamy ranchero sauce binds the dish. And don’t forget the grilled street corn, the ultimate comfort food with a spread of cotija cheese, cilantro, and chili lime aioli. Brunch is also an option. Papas con chorizo are hearty, albeit the red and sweet potatoes a little too firm, with two beautifully fried eggs. For something unique, try the house-made moronga(blood sausage) with silky poblano pepper grits, salsa verde, and of course the fried egg.

Tacos: 5 stars. Never knew tacos could be so damn good. Forget coming on a Friday evening. It’s packed, the place itself is small, and it’s so dark you need candle light to read your menu. Do not come with a party of 4 or more at peak hours. Come on a weekday at noon and the place is nearly dead n’ blessed with sunlight. Tacos are $ 4 a piece. Recs= +++Grilled Street Corn– the sauce smothered on top of the corn= the bomb. +++Dallas Spicy Beef taco– spicy beef with mushrooms and chilis on a fried tortilla with longhorn cheese. IMO, it’s the taco with the most bang for your buck. +++Baja Fish of the Day– Beer battered fresh white fish, pickled cabbage slaw, chili mango aioli. The fried fish is similar to fish n’ chips and the sauce is delightfully sweet. ++Chips and guacamole– hearty avocado chunks in the guac with freshly made chips. Drinks= ++Paloma= blend of blanco tequila, grapefruit, lime and salt, topped with Mexican grapefruit soda Extensive drinks menu albeit pricey. Cocktails are $ 11+. But *shrug* when you’ve had a rough week at work, no shits are given when you so desperately want that buzz.

As an Allston native, I am a local fan of this joint. My roommate and I wait only waited ten minutes or so at the bar for a two-top to clear. The drinks are bomb and reasonably priced. The space is very small and super cramped, but you should know this once you go again and decide to stay. On a typical Friday/Saturday night, expect a bit of a wait and at least one person in line waiting for the bathroom. The food is really good as well. You order tacos individually, so you can mix and match. The chips and guac is a must and I have heard the grilled corn is a staple. Food comes out as it is ordered. The service is okay. There was not a lot of communication between the servers and the bar staff, which made for some awkward moments, but overall, everyone’s attitude is pretty chill. Good spot for vegans/vegetarians. Most tacos have meat/cheese but there are definitely sides and a vegan option, which is a heaven sent for me. I recommend going as a two/three person group; anything larger may not find room.

This was on the list when my wife and I planned our Guy Fieri food trip in Boston, which is something we always wanted to do. The wife had to come here just because she saw Guy eating the street corn from here on TV. She started craving it. Who am I to say no? We came here just to have the street corn, and to have a drink. We had to pace ourselves because we had at least two other stops planned after this. I could have eaten three more plates of that street corn. I mean, that is a dish that would be worthy of «last meal on death row» kind of food. I also noticed that the brunch menu had a number of dishes that I would have easily wanted to try. Everything else we saw coming out of the kitchen looked tremendous. Who knows if we will ever be back? But I’m glad I got here once to start our bucket list trip.

Ok so I walked into a bar in Boston, MA called Lone Star Taco Bar … uhh am I really in Boston or did I go back home to Austin, TX? Ok seriously this bar was like many bars I have encountered in Austin, TX. It is doing a pretty dang good job too. I definitely felt at home. The only thing missing was the giant patio. I orderd the El Diablo, which was like a spicy margarita with mezcal … texas much … I think so. My husband got the Mexican happy meal, which is a tequila shot, side of sangrita, and pint of Modelo Especial. The place was hoppin when we stopped in during happy hour time. The staff was super friendly. We only drank and our drinks were definitely tasty. I would say that Lone Star is winning at being a texas bar in Boston, so how could I not be a fan!

I wasn’t even hungry anymore, yet I kept ordering food. Have you ever felt fat after eating corn on the cob? No? Try the grilled street corn. Did I have to go to Boston of all places to find what are possibly my favorite tacos? Yes, I think I did. Do they have damn good drinks like the El Diablo that will give you the power to make questionable choices later in the evening? Yes. Yes they do. Is Lone Star Taco a kind of stupid name that lulls your expectations and then punches you in the face with a great neighborhood atmosphere and friendly service and oh my god I need to shut up and you should just go there already. Non rambling side note: Ask what the specials are. They aren’t on the menu and I don’t think they’re listed anywhere else and to quote an employee: «you should always order whatever the special is.»

This neat little place is excellent for a quick bite. I suggest ordering a few dishes and sharing to get the best tastings! Start with the chunky guacamole and freshly made tortilla chips. To add some more flavor, use the green and orange salsas(sweet and spicy) to swirl with a couple of bites. If you’re there for brunch, definitely try the papas con chorizo hash that features ground chorizo, sweet and regular potatoes, peppers and onions. A couple of fried eggs come atop the dish but the hash alone is incredible. Also, for a sweeter dimension to your taste buds try the jalapeño corncakes(pancakes with pieces of corn, sweet jalapeños in it). Top them with maple syrup, your chorizo hash, or just eat them plain! They’re delicious by themselves. I also had a fish taco which was pretty good. But, I’d have to say the papas con chorizo and corncakes with exceptionally delicious and a special experience for my tastebuds.

BEST tacos in Boston, in my opinion! Tiny venue, stool bar seating with only a handful of small wooden tables. We were lucky to get seated immediately and the service was quick as all can be. Super casual, affordable, and families welcome. Fish tacos are the way to go, and the way to my heart, and the pickled onions said it all. I believe it was house made verde sauce that was a tasty topper that added that extra kick and punch to every delicious bite. Start with the guacamole and you won’t regret it. Served in a heavy stone mortar and pestle bowl, and house fried chips! My friend tells me that Lone Star is a hit after dark or on your way home from the bar, or when the late night taco crave hits, open LATE! 2 beers, 2 tacos, 1 tostada, and guacamole to share was $ 30 well spent with a tip.
