We would never have chosen a place with a German name for a good steak, but it was recommended by staff at a local motel. The service was unbelievably GREAT(our waiter was Trevor) and our steaks were excellent! The prices were very reasonable, as well. We’re from South Dakota and will stay in Amarillo again on our way through, just to have another dinner here.

We ordered the Texas Two Step carry out. This comes with more than enough food for 2! The steak was so good my husband didn’t miss the steak sauce that was left out of our order. The salads were fresh & dressings were flavorful. The mac & cheese was excellent! The front desk clerk at our hotel gave us a coupon for free app or dessert. We chose the banana pudding– excellent too! The order took under 20 minutes to prepare. We were so hungry & the food was so good we forgot to take pics. The only item that we didn’t care for was the bread, it was hard. With food this good I wasn’t really interested in bread anyway. Steak dinner for 2 for under $ 30! We will be back!

I was expecting more to be honest. Food was average as was the service. Steak was very fatty and not well cooked. Sides were OK.

Just sitting here talking to regulars at the bar and the friendliest & knowledgable guy sitting here turned out to be the owner!!! Nice! And he knows about riding motorcycles! Better yet the ribeye I got is cooked to perfection. I had to get a double order of the steamed spinach, cause why not? My starter was the sweet water shrimp w dr. Pepper BBQ sauce!!! Woah man. Texas has a twist here at the Hauffbrau!!! Agreed, it is better than the big Texan… Much better. As per the bad review about not only the filet being grisly, but other BS, u should go to learn how a real piece of meat is cooked outside of your usual McDonald’s cardboard sandwich. You should just go back to being a veggie. Psssh…

We usually go to the Big Texan on our way to Colorado but decided to try something different; a more upscale steakhouse. From the minute we walked in the door we started questioning our decision. It was a very commercialized chain restaurant and the food was very«sisco». Our food came out so fast I would’ve thought I pulled up to a fast food drive thru! my ribeye reminded me of a steak you would find in the discount bin at the grocery store and paying $ 18 it truly was nowhere near the quality that they were charging… can you say profit margins for this place! Will not go back and will continue to patron the big Texan!

I was in Amarillo for business again and Hoffbrau is at the top of my restaurant list after 4 – 5 excellent experiences. Today… not so much. My favorite, smoked sirloin, was a bit fatty today and the steak fries did not appear to be fresh… they were barely warm. Though the waitress was quick to request a new side of fries, by the time they arrived about 10 minutes later, the half of my order of smoked sirloin I had saved to eat with the hot fries was ice cold. Although I arrived and was seated at 3:50, it was immediately apparent I’d be paying supper prices. Since was unhappy with the meal itself, paying full price, evening rates added insult to injury. The restaurant was almost completely empty, probably a function of the time of day and windy, snowy weather. On the bright side, my salad was fresh and in a chilled bowl(I love that) and the pumpkin cheesecake was excellent, though pricey($ 6) for the modest serving size. My waitress, Lauren, was attentive. I’ll probably come back again, based on the previous great experiences. Were I to base a return trip on today’s visit… not so much.

The candied bacon was just enough sweet and spicy to make them excellent! My husband said they would have got 5 stars but the brought out a small container of dressing with the salad and when he asked for more, it was twice the size! He loved the steak and the sweet tea was just right. Can’t go wrong with this place for dinner! If we lived in town we would definitely be coming here all the time.

The smoked sirloin recommended by another reviewer was spot-on. It’s only offered on weekend evenings, but we’ll worth getting. I wish we lived here so we could come more often.

I only ate here once in passing but it was great! The service was just as good as the food. I got a steak, I actually forget what kind but it was bomb. The Mac and cheese was perfect. Tasted just like the homemade kind. The server was also helpful in answering my questions about the area. I came here close to closing and even so, no one made me feel rushed at all. I hope I get stop in again one day.

My husband and I are on a makeshift impromptu road trip, and were on our way toward The Big Texan. On the highway we see a sign for a store we decided to check out. As we concluded our business there Hoffbrau was recommended. Rather than the«tourist trap.» We were initially seated at a small booth near the window because there were only the two of us. The space between the table and bench seats was so narrow we couldn’t fit, and if we tried our knees would have been bumping under the table. Without giving a play by play, here it is… My Sweet Tea was watery, too watery. Refills never helped. The lemons I asked for on the side were dry, and some of the pulps were brownish in color. They were all oit of the Cowboy Ribeye. «Someone came in and ordered all of them.» Quoting the waitress. *Appetizer chips were very nice, and just what I hoped they’d taste like. It was a larger portion than I expected, and came with a small cup of Ranch dtessing for dipping. We asked for an extra one which never came. Some chips were too big for the cup, which was a good thing. I can NOT believe the little bowl of(non green) lettuce, diced tomatoes and cheese is what they pass off as a salad. I was annoyed. We ordered 13oz Sal’s steaks. One was supposed to be Medium, and one medium rare, both were the same at medium, but the temp is tolerable so I didn’t need to send it back. The meat was seasoned too peppery for my taste, but my husband enjoyed the flavor. That is after he cut away at least 4 to 5oz of fat and that tough membrane stuff. I gave him what I couldn’t finish of mine(I gave up because of the pepper). The mashed potatoes I got, barely warm. The cream gravy I asked for on the side was also not hot. I got a roasted corn. It was cold, flavorless, and dry. The macaroni and cheese had more cheese than pasta. I enjoyed the flavor, and it was piping hot. I am a cheese lover and where cheese is spotlighted you’ll rarely see me complain, but since I didn’t eat the corn, the cold potatoes, or all of my steak more oasta would have been welcomed. We ordered a banana pudding, brownie, and peach cobbler to go. Before I lay down at our hotel I spoon sampled each. I threw away the hard dry brownie. The cobbler was not cobbler st all, but was more pie-ish… Maybe they baked it in a big square and just named it cobbler, but I wanted the white gooey peachy stuff that I look for in cobbler, but got top and bottom crust with clear peach filling. I saved it for my husband who isn’t a picky eater, but he actualy said«blah WTF is that?» The banana pudding is in the mini fridge still They told us that they give a military discount, but on our entire bill they only discounted one portion of one entrée. I found that to be a slight slap in the face, but something is better than nothing. Ther service was average speed, the staff was nice and friendly. Ultimately, I don’t want to put them down, but they have to step it up a little for me. I gave 1 Star for the Chips and homemade dressings I gave a second star for the friendly staff I can’t justify giving a whole star for the cheese flavor so it has to end there. But on a 1 – 10 scale I give the a solid 6.

Driving through Texas I stopped here hoping to have a really good Texas steak. I was sorely disappointed. I ordered the center cut filet medium rare as recommended by the waitress for the best quality steak. A center cut filet should not have any vein or gristle in it. The steak they brought me was way overcooked and full of gristle — I am posting a photo after I post this review. A real center cut filet should look like the links here — — and here — Also, I suspect the Hoffbrau’s steaks are frozen. The steak had the mealy, mushy mouth feel to it that you get when all the cell walls of the meet are ruptured by poorly freezing and thawing. If not frozen, then it was an extremely poor cut. The manager was good enough to take it off the check and in my reviews that adds one star back to a review. This is a steak house in Texas where they know beef — no excuse for serving poor quality beef in Texas — there ought to be a law — and probably is.

Came with a friend by recommendation of a former local. Not sure if Hoffbrau has gone downhill or if I shouldn’t trust her tastebuds, but this was a very average steakhouse. My friend and I both got the ribeye steak with Mac and cheese for a side. The steak was NOT cooked to medium rare as promised — it was medium well at best. While still juicy, it was not flavorful. The Mac and cheese was super creamy though. Of course, it’s a staple so I don’t give too much credit for good Mac. Friendly server but he seemed more eager to please for ratings to his manager than out of a genuine friendliness. Would not return or recommend. Texas has such great steak, why waste time on average?

We had a great time at Hofbrau. We were visiting from out of town and wanted a Texas BBQ/steakhouse experience that was not a chain. We learned it was family owned and had a great experience there. The service was SUPER quick. Food hit the table lighting fast, drinks poured well. They have a cream ale that was very unique and tasty. Deep fried pickles were like candy. Couldn’t stop eating them. Steaks cooked well, sides were good as well. We would come back!

It’s been a few years since my last visit, and I’m happy to report that this place is just as delish as it was 4 years ago. Tonight, I ordered the bacon wrapped filet, salad, and roasted corn on the cob. Holy heck it was good. The filet was a perfect medium rare and seasoned perfectly. They must have put some wood on the grill, because the meat tasted a little smoky. The corn tasted a little smoky too. Hoffbrau makes their own salad dressing, and the blue cheese dressing is decadent and delicious. I had a «firewater» margarita, so named because it has slices of fresh jalapeño in it. Not for everyone, I acknowledge, but it was good. They have completely refurbished the place. The service was cheerful and attentive. Hopefully, it won’t take so long for me to make a return trip!

The fried okra and fried green tomato appetizers were crunchy on the outside, tender on the inside, and delicious. The smoked, pepper-crusted sirloin was superb. I have never had its equal elsewhere. The service was friendly and efficient. The individual servings were sufficiently large that none of our party of four had room for dessert.

This restaurant came as a recommendation by a coworker here in Amarillo. I am definitely happy I took his advice as the meal I ordered was absolutely delicious. I ordered the fillet with a side of mac & cheese and the steak was cooked perfectly just the way I like it. My glass of tea was also constantly filled and our waitress kept checking in on us to make sure everything was as it should be. I was looking at desserts and she highly recommended the peach cobbler which I am very glad she did as I was craving something sweet, but not too sweet. It was just right. This place is definitely worth a try if you are in the area and not from here.

From the outside I would expect this restaurant to be a mass chain restaurant. But I was pleasantly surprised to know this is one of the family owned restaurants here. My family and I were greeted immediately by the staff and were seated in a clean, comfy booth seat. No buckets full of peanuts or cheezy red and white picnic table cloths here. Servers were fast and very attentive. The food was AMAZING. My parents ordered the dinner for two(steak on a sizzling plate with sides) and I ordered a burger with hand-cut fries. The burger was delicious! Giant, juicy, cooked to a perfect medium. I ate half of the burger and was full, but it was so good, I had to eat the rest. The steak my parents ordered was delicious as well. It was tender, cooked to temperature, and no extra steak sauce was needed at all. We were all so amazed by the quality and size of the meals for such a reasonable price. This was one of the best burgers and stolen slices of steak I have eaten here in Amarillo. I can’t wait till I come back and try some more delicious food!
