Sorry Service, Anyone?. We go to Malcolm’s often after church on Sunday evenings. The last few times we went, they wouldn’t bring us refills & acted ridiculous when we wanted to order ice cream. My sister asked for a refill at 8:45pm& the waitress said they had already cleaned the nozzles of the coke machine(they close at 9!!!) When her husband said, «we aren’t paying for her drink, if we can’t get refills» the waitress rolled her eyes & walked off. We asked to speak with a manager or the owner & the staff said he wasn’t there, but we saw him just a few minutes later… If you plan on going close to closing time or even within the last 2 hours that they are«open» expect to be treated poorly. If you go for lunch, plan to wait. No one gets in a rush or a hurry. The food is average but when paired with the sub-par service it is a real disappointment! The ice cream is very good so I’d recommend getting dinner elsewhere & stopping by here for dessert.

Love coming to this place. The design of the interior mimics that of a 50’s diner. Seating is seat yourself. Food is very reasonably priced, and I’ve never had anything here I didn’t like. The dessert menu is excellent. Make plans to have dessert, for sure. Try this place out!

I wasn’t expecting a lot when I saw the sign. Faded and beat up. but man the burger was really good. Extremely friendly staff! You could tell this was one of those hidden local jems. Wasn’t really in the mood for ice cream but if it was anything like the quality of the cheese burger. I’m sure it would have been great.

Just the best basic burger in town. The service is diner quality, not smothering or fawning all over you.

The staff is friendly, and their lunch service is QUICK! It’s one of the only sit down restaurants where we can have a lunch in less than 30 minutes. My usual order is the Ham Club with fries. They have one of the best traditional club sandwiches in town. The French fries are always fresh, golden and crispy. The cheeseburgers are old fashioned, flat top cooked, diner style burgers. Always juicy and flavorful. The star of the show is the ice cream! Their chocolate malts are heavenly. I also love the Choco & Scotch, a sundae with tons of fudge and butterscotch. The fudge brownie dessert is amazing, but you better bring a friend to share because it’s huge!

I’ve been going here since I was a kid. They’ve been around for years. That should tell you something. Simple dinner style food. Which is always good if thats what your in the mood for. The ice cream rules! But then again it’s always been good. Cool old fashion ice cream deserts. I’m here every couple of weeks. The kids love it. Sometimes it’s super busy and you can’t get a table. Call ahead and get it to go. My one little complaint is that that hire a lot of younger people, probably their first job. But hey everyone’s got to start somewhere.

Food was good we shared chicken bits and onion straws. Then we had chocolate fudge cake with vanilla and chocolate ice cream. Yum yum. The desert is definitely worth the trip.

Stopped here for a bite to eat on a road trip. BLT was the choice for dinner and it was fabulous. Also had some ice cream for dessert which was also yummy. The chocolate ice cream has a unique taste(in a good way) — it was delicious but different than any other chocolate ice cream I’ve had, and I’ve eaten a lot of ice cream in my life. Try the Proper Penguin sundae for dessert! Service was prompt and friendly.

This charming old fashioned restaurant is authentic. Right down to the wonderful antique stove, typewriter and cocoa-cola memorabilia. Don’t expect a 5-star experience only a simple old fashion diner. The strawberry shakes are outstanding! The combo club sandwich was good. The only complaint is how SKIMPYTHEYWEREWITHTHEFRENCHFRIES. It must have only been an half cup of fries on each of our plates. Also my father who is an old timer of the restaurant asked for the home-baked cookie at the end of our meal, we were told they don’t do that anymore on Tuesdays and Saturdays.(Ghetto if you ask me.) Even if the prices have gone up they should keep with the traditions that have kept the old timers around.(cookies, healthy fries portions etc.)

I love the setting of the restaurant. Very 50’s-ish feel with a lot of old memorabilia, signs, and objects. I felt like I was in Happy Days at Al’s! I’ve eaten dinner here before and ordered the burger. I remember it being pretty good. Not earth-shattering, but definitely purchase worthy. Of course, the real star here is the ice cream. I don’t remember the exact name of it, but we’d always get this coffee sundae that had coffee ice cream with a coffee flavored syrup. It was AMAZING. I was seriously thinking about ordering a second one if it wasn’t so fattening…

We went here after dinner to get ice cream. I didnt realize it was a sit down place until we got it. I asked the waitress what flavors of ice cream they had and she had no idea, she had only been working there for 6 days. So she called someone else over to tell us the flavors, there weren’t that many, I still remember them. That part was weird. The ice cream itself was good. The other waitress we had was pleasant. I was just mainly annoyed that it was a sit down place.

If you should come here for anything, come here for the ice cream. Their ice cream is delicious and comes in different varieties. Definitely beats Braum’s anyday! In terms of the food, everything is okay. We had the cheeseburger and the tuna fondue sandwich. The cheeseburger to me tasted like any other cheeseburger I’ve had. As for the tuna fondue, the cheese was barely melted so it literally tasted like a sandwich I could’ve made at home for a fraction of the price. The service was slow, and our waitress, although she wasn’t rude, was not friendly at all. I would definitely come back for the ice cream, but not for the food.

Great Classic American food and homemade Cookies! Very large menu so there is something for everyone. 50’s décor and plenty of seating. Service has always been fast & friendly. Easy to get to from I-40. Only 2 blocks away. Great Route 66 stop.

It’s cheap and the food is decent. But, we had to wait… for the server and for the food. Once served, the waitress pretty much disappeared. But the worst part is the bathrooms. The place does have a men’s and women’s, but the men’s was closed for repair. Too bad the women’s wasn’t working right either. The second time my son used the bathroom, the lock would not unlock for him, no matter how hard and how often he tried. Because it took longer than normal for him to return, I went looking for him only to find him banging and screaming from within, There are 2 doors between and a very loud fan just outside the door that completely silenced his cries. We couldn’t unlock it until a worker came by and used a ‘special touch’ to unlock the door. It was obvious she knew about the problem for a while and had to unlock it from outside often. Even after I complained to the manager, he just looked at me as I were a complete idiot. ‘You just twist the lock,’ he said with a smirk. He walked off and I walked out.

Malcolm’s has been the same for years– for better or worse. I like their Club Sandwiches, burgers are good also, as are the Spicy Chicken Bits(think Rex Chicken that was in Amarillo years ago). Service can be spotty. It is ‘seat yourself’, though there is no sign telling you so, so you can watch all the people unfamiliar with the system stand and wait for a while until someone tells them to sit down. Cash only, of course. Ice cream treats are especially good. Small parking lot– don’t park in the old Ruby Tequilas lot, you’ll get towed if you do.

Small place off I-40 but and open all hours when you need an ice cream fix. Diner style inside, cool roadhouse décor. Tip: don’t park next door at Rudy Tequilas or you will be towed

Disclaimer: I haven’t actually eaten dinner here. Just dessert and some sides. Came here one Friday night because the wife had a sweet tooth. They are open till 11pm on Fridays. We walked in and were told to sit where ever we wanted. The problem with restaurants that let you seat yourself — they don’t keep track of where you sat down. You’re left sitting there for awhile until a waitress walks by and asks«Has anyone helped you guys yet?» Um. no? So after sitting there for about 5 minutes, a waitress did finally approach us. We ordered the Hot Fudge Cake($ 4), which is basically a slice of fudge cake that’s been split down the middle and a scoop of ice cream has been lovingly placed there. It’s then topped with waaay too much whipped cream and topped with a cherry. It’s all very over the top, but delicious nevertheless. My wife ordered a Mini Mundae($ 3), ice cream and fudge topped with your choice of toppings and whipped cream. She ordered it with sliced almonds. When our desserts came out, she dug around and discovered that the almonds were missing. When we asked our waitress, she replied«Oh, it’s probably under all that whipped cream.» More searching ensued. Nope, no almonds. We asked her again and this time she brought out a bowl of sliced almonds. She liked it better that way. She got to sprinkle each bite with almonds. She finished it off pretty quickly! We wanted to try some of the sides, so we ordered some french fries($ 2) and onion straws($ 4). Take my word for it, skip the onion straws. Basically it’s straws of fried batter that tastes like onions. Dipping it into the provided ranch dressing, doesn’t make it any better. it just makes you feel even more like a fatty. The french fries are decent, but nothing special. After we finished, we went up to the cashier to pay the bill. Imagine my surprise when I learned that they ONLY accepted cash. Are you kidding me? «You can pay with check also,» offered the cashier. Who writes a check in a restaurant? What is this, 1965? GET A DAMNCREDITCARDMACHINE and pay the measly fee! There are plenty of people eating here and they’d probably get even more customers if they accepted credit card! I had to run to a gas station ATM just to pay the bill! Just remember to hit up an ATM before you come. Pros: good desserts; reasonable prices Cons: ONLYACCEPTSCASH, onion straws are not good at all
