Best burgers in town. I eat here twice a week against the wishes of my doctor and health insurance provider. This is an old fashioned greasy spoon that’s been around for 70 or so years, so any vegan entering the premises might actually burst into flames upon crossing the threshold. 3 – 4 beers on tap, the menu is pretty limited but everything on it is tasty. The green chili cheeseburger is my go-to with a small cheese fries. The sizes are misleading so if you order a large fries, make sure you have a couple friends to help you get rid of em. The staff is super friendly and there’s a patio out back where you can enjoy a beer and a burger in the great outdoors.

Read about this place on a Route 66 guide. So happy we chose here to eat! We seemed to be the only tourists in the place at the time, surrounded by locals(always a great sign!)behind were friendly and interested in where we were from. Had the most delicious burger ever! A small order of fries could feed a small family. They were perfectly crunchy on the outside and soft inside. Anddd they offered ranch on the side without us even asking!

Great burger. Cold beer. Local place and not part of a big chain. What’s not to love?

I had the bacon cheeseburger with jalapeños, my girlfriend had the habanero burger, both were very good. We split a large fry which was plenty. We will be back.

The patty melt with green chiles is amazing. Beer is cold. Fries are fresh cut on site. Our kind of place. Server was super friendly and gave us tips on things to do(and things to eat) while we are in Amarillo. Note — the large fries is ENORMOUS! We should have split a small order.

1 waitress for many people equals Over a 45 minute wait for a burger and fries… Although delicious, I wouldn’t do it again. Ridiculous! The people behind me arrived after me and ate and left all while I am still waiting on my burger. The waitress could care less… I’d pass on it.

I enjoyed my first trip to this Amarillo landmark. Great burgers, nice people and the history that makes you believe you might be in the 40’s when this place first opened. No stop through Amarillo without going here. No excuses!

If you’re looking for a Route 66 dive that serves up buckets of beer and fantastic hamburgers, this is the place for you. The name«Golden Light Café» does not remotely fit this place. It’s gritty and dark, with low ceilings and bars on the windows. You get the distinct feeling that not much has changed since 1946, except for the photos and newspaper clippings that adorn a massive bulletin board. But you’re not there for the décor. You’re there for the burgers, which are magnificent. The burger was juicy but not greasy, and seasoned perfectly. The fries are fresh cut shoestring fries, not frozen. They arrived unsalted, but a few shakes of the salt shaker remedied that. The«con» side is minimal. The place could use a deep cleaning. And the burger toppings arrived ON the burger rather than next to the burger. This meant that my lettuce was already a bit wilty by the time it arrived. Besides, not everybody wants everything on their burger.

Fantastic food! I got the grilled chicken(yes…I know, it’s a burger joint!) and it was moist and seasoned perfectly! The service was friendly but the meal took a while to get to the table.

Good food. Takes a while because it’s fresh, and worth the wait. Fries are awesome. Service wasn’t AWESOME, but people were nice and we ate good food at s great price Located on a cool street, with lots of little eclectic stops

This is a nice mom and pop restaurant. It is family owned with some amazing food! The people are nice and it is one of my favorite restaurants on 6th street.

We have dined here about 3 times since moving to Amarillo. By far THEBEST burger in the Panhandle! The customer service is outstanding: friendly & fast! Whenever my family comes to town, I always take them to this amazing little gem! It’s great to eat at and then go explore all the little shops on Historic Route 66.

Went there at opening on Saturday the 2nd to initiate my wife to the TX Panhandle culture(?) and how good it can get. She had a plain HB and I had the chili(again, due to my diet and volume limits). The place is really full of atmosphere. I got to run the juke box and that made me a hero and honorary DJ until my $ 5 ran out. Definitely go here if you love having your hamburger bun attended to as well as the meat. That is a plus and a bit of an art. Appreciate it often — like once a week. The small order of Fry’s is large enough to take care of 3 people.

This is not a café, I don’t know why that name is in the title, it’s definitely a bar in my opinion. The burgers were pretty good, the fries were very greasy and thin. I asked for the cheese on the side for my fries, and it was a mountain of cold shredded cheese, I was not expecting that. The cashier/bartender on the day I visited was snobby and borderline rude, I will not be returning.

We headed this way for lunch this past weekend. The Golden Light Café is a staple in Amarillo and it was about time that my hubby and I finally stopped in to experience the greasy goodness. Unfortunately they were out of bacon. Who runs out of bacon!!! Anyways, our burgers were so good we hardly noticed. We all ordered the green chili cheeseburgers and a side of cheese fries. Our family members all ordered small fries and the hubby and I split a large order of cheese fries. The cheese fries were the only disappointment of our visit. They were smaller than the small order of fries even though ours was a large. The cheese was delicious, but the fries were super greasy underneath the cheese. Next time we will stick to regular fresh cut fries. Nonetheless, we will return. Hope they have bacon next time!

Great dive bar with delicious burgers and fresh cut fries. Would highly recommend if you’re looking for a good greasy comfort burger. The large basket of fries easily feeds 4. This place is the full package, full of history(oldest Amarillo restaurant on Route 66) and fantastic food. Worth the stop!

Solid dive servin’ up burgers and Texas grub! We stopped here at the recommendation of a friend of a friend, and were excited to see the totally cool old-school vibe and décor. My husband and I both had the Flagstaff Pie(sans cheese for me). It was quite tasty, and it felt like every bite I took was magically replaced on my plate — it’s a really serious hearty portion of food. The chili was good, I was hoping for more sauce to sop up the Fritos, though. We ordered a large basket of fries to split(hint: a small would probably suffice for two people), but they were clearly homemade and delicious. Service is friendly. The locals that haunt the joint were friendly. Great place to stop on a road trip(for us).

This place is a great stop if ever in the area. It was established on Route 66 in 1946 and is the oldest restaurant still operating in Amarillo. Currently, it’s located in the Historic Route 66 neighborhood. The place has the look and feel of a hamburger joint that has been around forever. The interior is small with a bar and the grill on the right. In 1996 a small back patio was added, which is where we sat. The menu is extensive, but pretty much what you would expect from an old hamburger joint… mostly a variety of burgers and other fried foods. I stuck with the traditional cheeseburger and a small side of fries. The prices are average, my bill was $ 8 and the food is good. I will say that I ordered the small fry and could only eat half of it. The staff was friendly and attentive. All in all, I was not disappointed and would definitely eat here again if ever in the area. Oh, and take note that you pay the cashier in the front and credit cards are accepted.

Einbisschen siffig but in a Texas way. Die historische Route 66 kennt jeder das ist eben 6th Street in Amarillo und allein darum denke ich werden so manche Qypebesucher an diesem Laden vorbeifahren. Schau mal rein! Ich empfehle Fat Tire Beer. Und bitte sag mir Bescheid wer da war Amarillo is my hometown!
