Cruiser’s — 8:30pm — 12÷19÷15 We were on 6th street to see a band, and Trav and I decided to go early and find a bite to eat. We hadn’t been to Cruiser’s before, but we were told that since the new owner took over this past month the food and service are better than ever. We walked in, greeted by friendly faces, and came to the conclusion that we should seat ourselves. A(very sweet) waitress appeared and took our drink orders while we browsed the menu. I settled on the Chicken Fried Steak Sandwich and Travis ordered the BBQ Bacon Brat on a Bun. While we waited for our food, I enjoyed visually exploring the building — true to its name and history, Cruiser’s feels like a(clean) old garage where the motor heads play. Our food probably only took about 10 minutes or so. My sandwich was HUGE and served so hot that I had to wait a while to eat it. All sandwiches are served with a toddler-sized mound of French fries. The chicken fried steak component tasted really fresh(the menu boasts they’re hand-breaded, but the CFS seemed like a pre-made product) but the seasoning was seriously lacking. A little salt and pepper, maybe a flavored mayo could have taken this sandwich over the top. The fries(also claimed to be hand-cut on the menu) were hot and fresh with a great texture, but they had waaaay too much salt on them — I found myself trying to rake off the excess seasoning with each bite. Everything was okay, but with better execution the food could have been awesome. Travis enjoyed his Brat sandwich, except for the fact that the middle of the sausage was a little raw. He isn’t one to complain about his food, so he just ate from either end and left the pink middle section behind. If it had been my order, I would have sent it back, but that isn’t his style. He did comment that the flavor was delicious otherwise. Our total was just over $ 20(I had a 15% discount coupon from Unilocal, the manager/owner didn’t seem to know anything about the discount’s origin, but they did honor it). Over all, good service, cold beer, decent food. I’m sure if we find ourselves in the area again, we will stop in.
