California Fish Grill

MY FAVORITE RESTAURANT!!! The food is so delicious. I always order the cajun white fish with fries/​white rice/​grilled zucchini! They have a wide variety of fish and dishes with decent pricing. Affordable entrees and large portions. I highly recommend this place.

Ok, it seems to be getting better. A new menu board instead of the old paper ones that were hanging on the wall as you came in. The food was really good and the service was a lot better on this visit. We ordered wine with our dinner and they brought it right out. The food came out hot and was great. the prices are $ 1 more than what is posted on the wall menu, not sure how they can do that… I would say CFG is getting their stuff together now and I will come back for sure…

Responsibly sourced fish that’s also affordable? I’m GRATEFUL. I really love the swai (juicy and moist) with a double order of grilled zucchini. I think I might be going (modified) Paleo for a little while (Catch ya on the flip side!), but that fluffy rice with that yummy melted butter is delicious, I’m not gonna lie. The grilled zucchini is a superb alternative though, and does not make you look longingly at those starchy carbs. It’s a very Paleo-​friendly spot!
I long for a California Fish Grill near me. How can you complain about healthy, quality, fast seafood?! Ya can’t.

Ok food horrible service. Gave my order three times, still got it wrong, dirty tables, rude employees and a manager on his cell phone having a personal conversation on the floor. I won’t be returning. Slap Fish is just a few miles away with great food and much better service. Do yourself a favor and go there.

If I could give zero stars, I would. Used to be good, but apparently chatting with co-​workers and ignoring customers waiting to order is the new «quality service» at this establishment.
Not surprising it’s deserted here on a Monday, given the level of «service» the nitwits provide.

Food was fast fresh and clean. Manager or owner named Alvaro gave us exceptional service and was extremely friendly. He checked up on our table multiple times to see if we were satisfied with everything. Would definetly recommend anyone to come looking for a delicious meal!

I am A California Fish Grill regular customer, I probably go once or twice every week or so, generally me and my family go to their location in Foothill Ranch or Lake Forest, we get treated with warmth every single time.
Today on our way back from Chino Hills, I looked up on the maps the nearest CFG locations and we came to E La Palma location. the guy «Caucasian» at register did not greet us, took our order with an attitude, looked like he was having a bad day. I did not tip him and waited for the food. The food also came in a little cold and from the begging we were not excited to eat at that location.
I know we are not walking into a gourmet/​fancy place. But «low variation» is key to any business and specially a chain of businesses success. The customer experience is expected to be the same at every location. This 1 star review is not against the company, but it is agains the manager at that location and the guy at the register.

Let me know with the fire men evacuating me before my food was finished if i get a rain check

Absolutely addicted to the battered fish and chips. The tables need to be cleaned better as they have an interesting texture that looks nice but feels sticky.

I love the choices of fish on the menu grilled or battered. The fish tacos are also great with sides like calamari and cole slaw or sweet potato fries. Got the fish and chips, grilled Mahi Cajun style and talapia. Having the salsa bar is a bonus too!

This review is on the cleanliness of the store. The food is actually pretty great, but the past few times we have gone the place is a mess.
Dirty. The tables were nasty, and the booth seat was in need of a good wipe down. Just minor things that I think get over looked! the food is great & staff is friendly.

Can’t believe I am just now writing a review as I have been here many times. I couldn’t say a bad thing about this place. Well maybe the only negative is they are too popular and its sometimes hard to find a place to sit!!! :)
I have tried many items on the menu and, what can I say, everything is great!
The are so reasonable priced that you will think you are ripping them off! You will literally ask yourself, how can they do it!

Well while the food here is usually spot on have a few problems with staff and custom orders
When you ask for something a certain way you should get it that way let it be without sauce or a substitute etc. every time I order like this they fail to do it. Cashier rings it up and tells the staff yet the staff fails to execute properly and have happened multiple times
Also, they don’t know how to pace an order and deliver food properly, when customers order appetizers you need to get them out first prior to the food. Multiple times this happens where food comes then the appetizers or they come at once and well they are cold or by the time you can eat the soup it’s cold etc. get it together and train your staff how to execute an order properly Staff should know when appetizers are out and when to begin to fire the main courses. Timing is everything in a good dish, cold food does nobody any good and earned you this soso review. Get it fixed

I love this place! For about $ 9 a plate, you get a bunch of rice, a huge slab of fish, and a side of your choice.
Their rice is pretty darn good, and I love me some rice (what can I say… I’m Asian!).
The fish is always freshly cooked, and that garlic butter sauce is way too darn good. I always ask for more on the side. Their cole slaw isn’t drowned in dressing, which makes it slightly healthier than normal cole slaw haha.
Their house made tartar sauce is also very very good. I eat way too much of the stuff… which turns my somewhat healthy meal into a not so healthy choice.
I can’t give them 5 stars simply because they mostly used farmed fish. :/

This was such a pleasant surprise for dinner. .came up to see a play at the Chance and the restaurant I usually go to was closed due to the holiday so walked over here to discover the best fish dish dinner ever.. Perfectly grilled just the way I like it. .
I will definitely be coming back even though I live in Newport..

The local store! Been coming here for a long time and it’s never failed me. I’ve written a past review on this place and similar to that one, I have nothing bad to say.
Since I have already spoken highly of the restaurant, quality of food, and customer service before I’ll stick to this location specifically.
The parking lot sucks. Spaces are tight, turns are tight, and there’s a lot of other business whose customers compete for limited spots.
Restaurant layout is like the parking lot, tight. I’ve noticed other locations have outdoor patios but not this one. I imagine there’s times when rush hour where you might have to wait for a table to open up.
Staff is great and always moving around making sure the place is neat. Been coming for a while and starting to learn their names (hoping they remember mine as well).

My friend and I came to eat here before we went to see a movie.
There were only a couple of people ahead of us and I ordered the chicken with garlic sauce, brown rice, cole slaw, and clam chowder.
The clam chowder was brought out first. I was really looking forward to it since it was cold and raining today. It was barely warm when it was brought out. I sent it back and asked for a replacement. Seafood should be served either hot or cold to prevent the growth of bacteria.
Then my chicken was brought out and the brown rice (that costs extra) was cold. The chicken was really good and warm. Again I went up to the counter and tried to return my food. I was told to keep the plate A-B’s that they were going to bring me a side of rice. They bring it and it’s just as cold as the first batch. I asked them to at least microwave it, they couldn’t so I asked for white rice instead. The rice was warm, but over cooked and barely edible. It was at that stage where if it was starting to get crunchy.
My meal was such a disappointment and it’s really frustrating that the kitchen isn’t even checking the temperatures of the food. Especially after receiving rice from the save batch that I returned. Temperatures need to be monitored to keep people from getting sick.
I should have returned the food and eaten at the movie theater instead.

This place has been a family favorite for many years. The place is always busy and that’s a good sign especially when it comes to seafood because that usually means fresher product.
I usually get some kind of fish grilled either cajun style or with garlic butter sauce over fries. The rice or grilled zucchini is good for a change/​healthier option. The fried seafood plates are also a good deal with generous portions and their tartar sauces are on point. The only thing I’ve had here that I wasn’t crazy about was their clam chowder.
Also love the fast service, making it a good weeknight option!

Dirty Dining Area!
We would have left if we knew. You don’t get to see the entire dining area until you order, get a number and find a table to sit. Empty tables had dirty plates and dirty napkins and were rice all over the floor O_​o. There was a customer that agreed with us. We thought of leaving, but since we ordered our food we were like, «hhhmm…alright, we’re already here so might as well stay» ugh!
We found a «clean» table that one of the staff just wiped down, but it was wet and sticky from the wet rag he used.
The food we had was okay. I liked the menu. They had a variety of seafood to choose from and you can get them on a salad, wraps, rice and tacos. El Hubby had their GIANT SHRIMP $ 13 plate over rice. Shrimp were large and perfectly grilled. It was very good. But the rice was a lil tough. I had the FRIED CALAMARI and FISH $ 10 with coleslaw and grilled zucchini. It was on the dry side, but the tar tar sauce helped a lot. The coleslaw was very bland. My fav was the grilled zucchini. I like the grilled flavor, but I can make that at home.
Food wasn’t good enough for us to come back and give it another try.

These dishes also come with either fries, rice or grilled zuchinni’s, a slice of bread and cole slaw. I usually get fries while my boyfriend orders rice and we share with each other. Best of both worlds, you know what I mean?!
Food is always prepared fairly quickly and it is brought out to wherever you are seated. Self serve sauce bar with tartar sauce, salsa, cocktail sauce, ketchup, lemons and cilantro.
Very afforable price for a good amount of food. California Fish Grill is always a good choice in my opinion!
