Such a shame!!! I loved this place! This was my absolute favorite restaurant ever!!! Their swordfish was my absolute favorite. I went here so many times in the three year spam right before they closed. All of their desserts were delish! I always requested the same server. She was great and I wish I could remember her name. Oh well! RIP Mr. Stox!

I just wanted to acknowledge Mr. Stox’s final service tonight. Congratulations on a great run(40-some-odd years)! I’ve been sick all week and had to cancel my reservation, or I would’ve certainly been there to see you off. Congrats on an amazing run. I will certainly miss the lobster bisque, the osso bucco, and, of course the amazing lump crab cakes! Nobody does it like Mr. Stox… and now, nobody does it. Best of luck to the owners, servers, Chefs and kitchen staff. David Rockoff Loyal Fan and Diner

Tasty food. Not best in portion-size. Fair prices. Somewhat outdated atmosphere, even for it being a «classic, fine dining» setting. Friendly staff. I liked the lobster bisque, but it was more frothy and creamy than it was actually flavorful. The Grand Marnier soufflé was good and perfect for sharing. The prime rib was OK; I just happen to love House of Prime Rib so nobody beats them. I live right next door so it was a good idea to try it out. Overall, it was a pleasant dining experience and I’m glad I went once, but I don’t feel compelled to return before it closes next month… I guess Stox are down.

As usual, great food, great service and an excellent wine list. Dinner was a great way to celebrate my birthday with family and friends, the«last hurrah» before the restaurant closes forever. I hope other OC restaurants step up their game to fill the vacuum being left by the closing of Mr. Stox. All the best to the owners and staff!

Yep its true. Another iconic Orange County fine dining establishment is about to fade into the sunset. Sad sad sad. The owners barely ducked the«Platinum Triangle» development that the Anaheim city fathers created back around the turn of the century. Then the economy made a turn into the toilet, and so much for well made plans. Now along comes a private developer and made the owners the ol’ «offer that they couldn’t refuse.» After so many years(since 1977 by the current family) in this demanding business one really can’t blame them for cashing out and retiring. Well maybe a little, as there will be many long time employees that will be out of a job. And at the age of most of them, they will be hard pressed to re-up elsewhere for the money they have enjoyed here. Now that is truly sad. The lady friends birthday was nigh upon us and I listed a few choices, The Ranch and Mr. Stox among them. I had told her a few weeks ago about the impending demise of MS, and we decided we needed to make at least one more grand blow out visit. They have done several upgrades over the years, but the carpeting is now looking a little worn and the décor is definitely dated. But in a good way, as I can find dark and shiny new anywhere these days. We happened to get the youngest waitress, but most are in their late 50’s/60’s now. But the service has not slowed, in fact we had 3 different waitresses plus the food runner gent waiting on us. That me youngins is old school. We told our main waitress that we were in no hurry and she was very sensitive with our request, and even asked us if we were ready before she submitted our entrée order to the kitchen. I don’t often get this kind of relaxed, feel comfortable to stay as long as I wish from the modern day fine dining restos. We were there for around 90 minutes or so, and never felt any impatience from the waitstaff. Quite the contrary. The food was marvelous as well. I ordered Osso Buco as my main and it was perfect. Lighter sauce than I have had elsewhere, where it is often more like a rich gravy than a sauce. Their version is made with an almost clear sweet vermouth reduction sauce. The result is a lighter meal, and the ability to more appreciate the meat flavors. Loved it. It came with«rustic vegetables» and a generous portion of a delicious Parmesan risotto. And of course enough leftovers for a satisfying lunch the next day. LF chose the linguni with pan seared diver scallops. This dish was prepared with spinach and lemon pepper in a white wine sauce topped with corn, tomato and zucchini relish. Also delish, and the 4 scallops were humongous. I had a couple glasses of Dry Creek Zin, and LF had the Alexander Valley Chardonnay, and both were very reasonable with healthy pours. I believe they will be closing mid March, so give a call to make a rezee, put on your best Sunday-go-to-meeting-clothes, and take a step back in time. And if Wes is bartending, be sure to pay him a visit as well for some old fashioned wisdom. No sirree, they don’t make em like this anymore.

Uuuggghhh I feel like Puff the Magic Dragon when Jackie Paper came no more.Mr. Stox will be closing in March. :(I think I feel extra sad about this place closing because I used to come here with my Dad a lot… almost like losing him all over again. Anyways, go here while you can to taste their delicious food. Definitely call up to make a reservation first. They are also closed on Sundays and Mondays. The Prime Rib was always my favorite and their red wine vinegarette salad dressing has always been my fave dressing of all time. For birthdays and anniversaries, they give you a Baked Alaska which is A-mazing. This place also always gave me a reason to dress up. Truly truly sad. Good luck to all of the staff.

Fine Dining with a capital«D.» It’s a place that’s pretty fancy with valet-only parking, charger plates, a wine list that’s thick as an encyclopedia and the works! I came here during their busiest week(the week before Christmas) because of all the holiday parties and although it was pretty hectic, we still got top notch service. I ordered the prime rib and it’s definitely one of the juiciest and tastiest prime rib I’ve had. It was succulent and made to my liking. Not to mention, it was a lot of food that I had to take half of it home. Although this place isn’t cheap, it’s a good place to for entertaining clients or celebrating special occasions.

Man bäckt täglich zweimal mehrere Sorten hervorragendes frisches Brot.

WOW! What a disappointment! We’ve been frequent customers at Mr. Stox for years, but tonight’s experience has turned the 4 of us off completely. This USED to be a quality, cozy restaurant with consistently good food & a great place to celebrate a special occasion. Not tonight! The service was fine — the waitresses were friendly, attentive, helpful. Nice welcome from the hostess. Restaurant was nearly empty(Thursday night). Piano player was lovely, nice music, great ambience. The food was sub-par, to say the least. The«Special» ribeye steak was SO loaded with fat(a full THIRD of my steak was pure fat) & tough that it was nearly inedible. One portion was sent back for being cold when it was served. When we spoke with the manager, Curtis Springer, he was completely dismissive. «The rib-eye is the fattiest part of the beef» he smugly informed us, as if we should have expected this & known what we were getting. Well, this definitely was NOT a cut I’d buy at Ralph’s, even on sale. He offered a complimentary dessert, but since we were celebrating birthdays, we knew a free baked Alaska was coming. How does a free dessert make up for TWO bad $ 35 steaks? We declined his not-so-generous offer & decided to use our Entertainment cards after all(if he’d had the courtesy to comp the bad meals, we’d have paid full fare) & tackled the Baked Alaska. Again, barely edible, tough, tasteless. The birthday boys loved it, so only the picky ladies were displeased. Even the photo was out of focus, but at least the tacky mylar birthday balloons were gone. Restaurant managers need to remember that it takes only ONE bad experience to turn a customer off for life with bad stories to tell. As they say, we’re OUTTA here! And yes, we took the $ 35 steak leftovers home for the dogs — really!

A Friday night at the bar area and it was pratically empty. Its a shame because the bartendar Wesley needs more patrons and I would be one if I didnt live so damn far away. My lady and I decided to come here after we spent an hour and 45 minutes at California Adventure and went on only one ride. Way to busy on a Friday night especially since Disneyland closed at 7 for Halloween Mickey. But it was good news for the prime rib lover, that is myself. The prime rib was fantastic. The au jus was good but the horseradish sauce they give you is divine. Both my girlfriend and I ordered the same thing and we polished the whole meal off. We even took the scraps of gristle/fat home for the dogs and they loved it. Haha. Im sure my german shepherds would eat anything. It was a perfect way to wind down after the craziness of California Adventure and I will definitely come back to Mr. Stox for the friendly waiter Wesley and for the prime rib especially. Cheers! P.S… You can find coupons for the restaurant as well.

Walking in here, I thought I had died and gone to «Geezer Heaven». Whoo-Hoo! Yes, the average age here(wait staff and patrons) is on the upper end of the spectrum but hooey… I like old folks! We are all going to get there one day(sooner rather than later) and old folks are usually sooooo much nicer than the young whippersnappers. Older people don’t give you a «I’d rather be ANYWHERE than here» vibe when they are taking your dessert order. Older people don’t think it’s funny to be rude or vulgar on purpose(usually, but not always). Older folks usually take their jobs seriously, don’t duck out for a smoke or text break while you are waiting for someone to approach your table and acknowledge your existence. Older people usually(not always but usually) have what is referred to as «wisdom». They know things that can only be gleaned from«the school of hard knocks». In essence«old folks got it GOINGON» people! That being said, some«older folk» family members offered to take us out. «Order anything you like, it’s on us». YES… music to my ears! The older folk who were doing the paying picked this establishment, because well, the food is good they said and well, it’s «Geezer Heaven»!(My opinion only of course). Since we weren’t paying I ordered lobster, very expensive(to my measly budget anyway). I was super excited since I NEVER order lobster due to the many $$$$ it usually costs. My excitement turned dour when it arrived however. It was super salty and tough… ugh! I really, really wanted to send it back and order something else but… it that really allowed? Is it really«OK.» to send back a dish just because you«don’t like it»? I ate half and gave the other half to my better half. He echoed my sentiments exactly…“too tough” he said. The bread that arrived when we got to the table was outstanding however. Fresh and super flavorful. I ate way, way too many pieces for my own good. We had a shrimp cocktail type of an appetizer which was pretty good. Our salads were good also but the deserts were only o.k. My chocolate cake tasted a little stale, my hubs said the same thing of his lemon something or other. The service at Mr. Stox however is outstanding. The front desk girl was very sweet. The waitstaff is friendly, quick and even told us the story of how Mr. Stox got its name. Fun Fact: I guess the original owner was named«Mr. Something-or-other-stox»(to be honest I forgot his name) so he called his restaurant«Mr. Stox». HEY… GOODTOKNOW! There was a piano player playing some nice relaxing music. Mr. Stox was a nice experience. Not too dark and dank inside and pretty piano music playing. Outstanding waitstaff and quick busboys. The manager stopped by our table to talk to us for a minute. If I ever go again I will order something beside the lobster but overall we had a really nice evening here. Note: This restaurant is not a Red Lobster type of a place, it’s kind of spiffy. I saw all kinds of attire here, from jackets on the older gentlemen to shorts and tank tops on some clueless twenty-somethings. I realize that we are an ever increasingly casual society but would it hurt you peeps to dress up just a tad? I not talking formal attire but how about class-ing it up a bit and try wearing something like er… how about… err…can you try wearing LONGPANTS maybe??? Believe it or not, jeans, flip flops, shorts, tank tops and pants with holes in them are looked down upon by a certain shall we say REFINED element of our society. Every once in a while, I find unexpected monies in my pocket. I’m talking from a suit pocket which I haven’t worn in years. So do you know what I do when I come into some old money? I go to Mr. Stox…(Holy hi five to myself! I hope that was the worst Unilocal lead in ever). Anyway, I frequent Mr. Stox on a regular basis for business. The place feels like old money. Place feels like a Woldorf salad. Décor is elegant. Food is continental and is on the safe side(nothing avant-garde). Prices are set bit on the high side to remind you and your client that you are worth it. The service is impeccable. This place is perfect to take clients or your Parents to let them know you appreciate them. 4.5 stars. Happy eating — R

A bit overdue but here goes: I was treated to Mr. Stox by hubby and my girls for Mother’s Day brunch. Buffet was a solid 3 – 4 star, depending on what you had. Quite an assortment, especially of some high-end goodies. OJ and Champagne equals mimosas and I guess I’m just not a fan. Food was literally spread out all over the frigging place, actually in different rooms. One of the rooms was the kitchen itself to get your belgian waffles and omelettes. It was so frigging hot that my hair was wilting and makeup practically ready to run down my face. My omelette however rocked, and they had a very large selection of items to put it, including shrimp. Another room had all the salads, fruits, pastries, cheeses and breads, along with the eggs benedict, prime rib and lamb. No au jus for the prime rib, but gravy?! Very bizarre. The cheese selection was mind-boggling with so many choices, mostly cheeses I’d never even heard of. Service was very efficient and friendly and ambience was very nice and this is a darker romantic style restaurant. Standouts aside from the omelette, the blueberry muffin. The best I have ever had, over 5 stars! Indescribable perfection! I do not know if they are making these treats or getting them from a supplier, but wow. My husband noticed I loved them so much that he informed our waitress and she brought me(discreetly) two to go. Desserts were unimpressive, but I am very, very picky, although neither my husband nor daughters thought the desserts were anything special either. All in all a very enjoyable, albeit expensive, Mother’s Day brunch.

This was one of the few places still with reservations available when I called about Mother’s Day, not smart waiting until the week of to make reservations, so I was thankful to be bailed out by Mr. Stox. The first thing you notice is the only available parking for the restaurant is valet(no charge, but tips are expected). I checked us in and we were seated about 5 minutes after in a very comfortable booth. A server came over, explained where everything was for the buffet(it is spend out over the entire restaurant), filled our glasses with mimosas(the best champagne I have had at a buffet) and sent us on our way. We started out with the salads, pastries, cheeses, fresh fruit, shrimp/oyster bar(very impressive) and carving area. The selections were far too numerous to list so I will stick to what I tried: Potato Salad, Chicken Wild Rice With Mint, Cheddar Cheese on Water Cracker, Shrimp, Lamb Shank, Prime Rib and Apple Pecan Pastry. Everything was outstanding! I was lucky to get the Lamb Shank, it was going as fast as they could cook it. The Shrimp was excellent as was the cocktail sauce. The Potato Salad was one of the best I have ever had and I am a potato salad connoisseur. The Chicken Wild Rice with Mint had just right hint of mint and was well prepared. All the cheeses were very fresh and of high quality and the pastries rocked! The best pastry was the Blueberry Muffin(which our server appropriated an extra 2 for my wife at the end) and it was another thing which kept disappearing. The prime rib was delicious and perfectly prepared. It was served with creamy horseradish, gravy(weird) and Au Jus(on request). The restaurant also did a good job of keeping up with the demand even though we were showing up near the end of the brunch. The omelet bar had an excellent selection of items including shrimp of all things. The omelets were prepared prefectly and were excellent. The Belgian waffles were served with fresh peaches, strawberries and whipped cream. The only weakness was the dessert and honestly I was way too full to care by the time I was ready for dessert. The only thing I really tried was the Crème Brule and it was a little under cooked, but good. After we were rolled out of the restaurant, I decided to ask everyone if it was worth the $ 220(4 people including tip) and everyone agreed it was well worth it. I would have to say I would definitely do this buffet again!

Lobster Bisque!!! That’s all I have to say… Seriously the best Lobster Bisque every! Just for that alone I would come here. I saw that their lobster bisque was on the Restaurant Week menu and I was there for lunch. It has the amazing lobster smell, creamy texture and huge chunks of real lobster. As for their food, I can’t really complain. I love the presentation of all their dishes and the Pork Tenderloin that I had for lunch was very very good. The Pork tenderloin was very flavorful on its own and very tender. With the balsamic glaze and the asparagus is always a win for me. The potato with the cheese as a side… gave that nice pungent compliment the sweetness from the meat and the glaze. Service was very good. So far I have been very impressed by the friendliness of their servers and how attentive they are. For fine dining, I wished they would come by and clean some of the bread crumbs that were on our table.

I’ll give this place 2.5 stars, but rounding down to 2… Although I did expect a little more from a high end fine dining restaurant. The fiancé and I always pass by this restaurant every time we are going home or on the way to something and was always curious about giving this place a try. We decided to finally do it! We made reservations through for our 4 year anniversary/celebrating valentines day early. We actually even walked there since we’re only down the street from the place. It only took about 15 minutes(pre dinner exercise) and as we got there, we only waited about another 10 minutes or so, wasn’t too bad… the ambiance of the place is really an old style setting, very classic, my fiancé loved it since he’s into those kind of things. They apparently have happy hour there as well! Random I know! On to the food… Foods that we ordered: Lobster Bisque: Will ordered this one, it wasn’t too bad, not too many chunks though, but wasn’t horrible. it was okay. Garden Greens: I would never think that you can go wrong with vegetables. I was wrong! Veggies were over salted and seemed over cooked, I didn’t even finish them, only ate the salad. Duck entrée(didn’t remember the name): Finally something good! I actually did like this dish! Duck was cooked very tender and was deilsh! Prime Rib: fiancé had this dish, it was pretty good too! Not over cooked, not too under cooked, just enough blood for a carnivore man. For our entrees, we also got some wine to pair with our food. I just stuck with white wine while Will was asking our waiter for paring suggestions, he did a good job! Desserts– Chocolate Soufflé: ummmm… we’re NEVER ordering this again.(totally got conned into getting this haha) I really thought that soufflés were supposed to be light, and fluffy with oozing chocolate yumminess, not this one! it was literally like a brick! I bet I can probably toss it to a wall and it won’t break! No wonder they need 30 minutes to cook this thing, it turned into a brick! I could already tell that I was asking for it when our waiter had to poke a hole(with some effort) into the soufflé. Chocolate/ice cream/whipped marshmallow type dessert(free because we mentioned it was our anniversary): now. what’s sad is that, the free dessert tasted WAY better than the dessert we paid for –___– really now? sigh… this was really good! I like how they personalized the plate to have our names on there, really cute! We even got our free picture and balloon for celebrating there, so that was nice of them! I’m not too sure if I would keep coming here though, service wasn’t bad, but the food was another story. but Will doesn’t mind the place, so it’s 50⁄50 on us! Another thing to add: we did use our entertainment card for this place, so it did save us about $ 20 on the bill. so not too bad!

I subscribe to Mr. Stox’s newsletter and have wanted to try their Thanksgiving dinner every year but we’ve never done it. My family makes a great turkey dinner but this year Donna and I gave Mr. Stox a shot and it didn’t disappoint with it’s 4 course meal. You got soup, salad, entrée choice of turkey, pork loin, salmon, or prime rib and a choice of holiday desserts. First off, the Thanksgiving decorations were awesome. It took some pics of the HUGE pumpkins they had scattered everywhere. It really put you in a festive mood. Second they had holiday desserts proudly displayed for all to see which got the taste buds tingling. First course was«Cuban» pumpkin bisque with savory shrimp, crispy pumpkin strips, and scallion cream. I’ve never been into squash soups but this really changed my mind. It was a thick bisque with a taste of Thanksgiving. It was the spices you’d think of when you think of this holiday yet it kept the soup very savory. Not sure how to describe it but I loved it. The shrimp and pumpkins strips added different textures to the thick soup making it interesting to the tongue. Second course was a small hockey puck shaped disc of goat cheese which was breaded and deep fried. This was served on fall greens with pickled carrot ribbons, roasted pumpkin seeds, pomegranate seeds, and pomegranate vinaigrette. It was very refreshing after the heavy soup and made for a great palate cleanser to prep for the main course. I had the roasted fresh Dietzel Family Farm Turkey with giblet gravy, apple walnut stuffing, cranberry relish, whipped potatoes, candied yams, petite green beans and baby carrots. I liked how they served a mix of both white and dark meat perfectly cooked with delicious gravy. All the sides were tasty. Their cranberry relish was great since they kept whole berries in it which caused a literal burst of flavor. The only thing I didn’t like much was the mashed potatoes… they were a bit dry. They should of topped it off with gravy! Donna had the slow roasted Angus prime rib with mashed potatoes and veggies. I have to say… I took a few bites of her prime rib and it was one of the best I’ve ever had. She thought the same too. It was cooked perfectly! For dessert I had the mince meat pie. I love the mince meat pie at Marie Callender’s and this was just as good. Most people think of pumpkin pie for the holidays but for me it’s mince meat that floats my boat. The flavors of cinnamon, cloves, and nutmeg just screams out holiday to me. The dried fruits of currants, raisins, prunes, and dates make for a great texture and flavor. Donna had the deep dish pumpkin pie for her dessert. I’ll take a martini please! Two actually! I had a classic gin and vermouth martini at the start of my meal and finished with a pumpkin martini which had eggnog floated on top. Hell yeah! HAPPYTHANKSGIVINGEVERYONE!

Great food, even better service. My mom and I came with the TravelZoo voucher a few weeks ago and it appeared that so did most of the other patrons that night judging by the glasses of champagne on every table! Definitely a special occasion sort of restaurant and definitely old school — lots of older people and celebrations going on. We started out with a bread basket. I loved the red beet bread, which didn’t taste like beets, but had a great crust and soft innards. I had the scallops starter with microgreens and carrot purée. Scallops were great, but the purée reminded me of(delicious) baby food. For my entrée I had a huge piece of prime rib. The entire time, I kept wondering how they cooked it because it was perfectly and evenly medium pink whereas when I make prime rib the outside is always cooked more. By this time I was already slipping into a meat coma, trading plates for my mom’s crab cakes helped a bit, but I still had a soufflé coming. Needless to say, I barely made a dent in my Grand Marnier soufflé. The warm berry crisp was also good and the tart berries balanced well with the white chocolate ice cream. Mr. Stox is a great place for a special occasion(or whenever anyone else is paying!). It’s quite pricey and the food isn’t particularly innovative, but the quality is high and I’m sure the meat lover in your life will enjoy it.

First off I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised with our dining experience at Mr. Stox. The bf and I came for dinner after purchasing a TravelZoo voucher that made it possible for me to finally try this upscale restaurant on Katella. I’ve always driven by seeing all the fancy cars parked at the valet and have been aching to try it. When we arrived we were warmly greeted by a hostess and promptly sat. The interior décor was quite elegant… busy, but elegant. Every inch of the pace is decorated with some sort of art or cabinet but it somehow meshed well without being overly done. It has a traditional all-american feel to it with the wood decore and yet did not seem too aged or dated. We were seated at our table and as soon as our server, Kathleen, came and we showed her our TravelZoo Voucher she quickly asked us if we were ready for our sparkling wine. We were! The waiter came to fill our water glasses and brought us some bread and butter and Kathleen came back with our sparkling wine and went over the specials which definitely peeked my interest. Appetizers: Maryland Crabcakes — OK. My favorite crabcakes are still handsdown at Morton’s so I’m always comparing. The bf felt the crab was overly cooked or something where the texture could have just been fish instead of crab. The flavor was overpowered by the green bed of sauce it was served on, but overall it was enjoyable. Just not impressive and if I came back, I would not order it again. Spinach salad — special — served with tomatoes, procuitto, melted mozzerella, artichoke hearts, and pine nuts. The vinegrette they used was perfect for this salad. It was served at room temperature, just the way a salad should be eaten! Entrees: Oso Bucco — The meat was hearty and juicy. The flavors were not entirely impressive but the plating was very inviting. The veggies and couscous were cooked to perfection, not overly cooked and mushy, but not raw and too earthy. Filet of beef — medium rare — served with blue cheese and potato chunks. The filet of beef was cooked to perfection, pink on the inside and full of flavor on the outside. The blue cheese was a great pairing, and though the portion of it looked quite small, turned out to be quite filling for the bf. Dessert: Soufflé — raspberry. Kathleen advised that it takes 40 minutes so I put the order in early when we ordered our dinners. When it came, it was very exciting as it was a beautiful puffy mound full of a sweet scent. But they served it with the creamy filling on the side and popped my soufflé open to pour some cream inside. My most favorite part of a soufflé is when I get to put that first spoon i and dig into the creamy center! I suppose its impossible to have a creamy center on anything other than a chocolate soufflé but really, that’s what a soufflé is… you shouldn’t be serving the cream on the side. Crème Brulee — the bf’s go to dessert other than cheesecake. It was served chilled with berries and though good, not the best I’ve had. Overall the dining experience was quite positive. I was not impressed by any of the dishes but neither was at all disappointed. The service was very attentive and friendly. Oh, and very fast! Our whole dining experience didn’t last more than 1 — ½ hours! for all 3 courses! Now that Mr. Stox can be checked off my list, I don’t have to scrounge the OC Restaurant Week for a decent serving menu.
