As a former police officer, I loved this museum. A lot of neat stuff and multiple pictures that told of a time not so long ago. You have to not only look ahead and around, but also UP to see police patches from various agencies from all the 50 states. I even took the opportunity to sit and watch a film that covered the history of the AST. It’s free admission, but do take time to give a donation to support this museum.

This museum is free and right downtown so you might as well stop in. During my two week visit to Anchorage, I probably walked by it ten times. The museum is pretty small. Small museums that are run by volunteers can be a little tricky. Since they are small, they don’t take too long to explore. It seems rude to leave after only ten minutes. I normally have to take a second look at everything to get to twenty minutes or half an hour. Highlights are an old patrol car and old law enforcement technology. I especially liked the exhibit of old Motorola radios and the sketch artist kit. The kit is a small wooden box filled with facial features drawn on clear pieces of plastic. I assume the victim would choose the features that best matched the perp and the artist would combine them into a complete sketch. Its free and you are already walking by so you might as well take a look. You will probably see something that interests you.
