Great lunch buffet. Not just good for when you wanna stuff your face, but great price and easy to get in and out. Sushi is as fresh as buffet sushi gets and the yakisobabis great.

Horrible. Got rushed out and yelled at. Terrible customer service. Will never go back. Old hag manager/owner was not interested in taking care of guests just in taking money. If you want a good time do not go to this horrible restaurant.

I was having difficulty coming up with an après movie Asian restaurant that I’ve never been to before. Kobe came to mind, and off I trundled. It was a Saturday night and the place was absolutely mobbed! Who’d a thunk? The parking along Arctic wasn’t very convenient, but I think they have parking in the back as well. The restaurant itself is nothing fancy, but I don’t think the crowd within was here for that. I think it was the fun! Now, I’ve been to the other chain teppanyaki house in town, but I haven’t seen it like this. The patrons all looked like they were having a grand time. The chefs were very entertaining with lots of flair, aplomb, and a gong to boot! Since I couldn’t get a seat at one of the cook tables without a long wait, I just ordered off the menu and enjoyed the show vicariously through the rest of the group. I had some noodles, gyoza, and a sushi roll. The food was good, but the show was better. I’ll definitely consider Kobe for a group function in the future, but with a reservation.

Service was excellent, couldn’t think of anything they could have done better. Food was excellent. Portions were large. Price was as expected. Our chef was friendly, funny, and kind. Not sure where these poor reviews are coming from. Will be back!

My husband and I go here at least once a month because the food is delicious. The service is sometimes a hit and miss, but never bad enough that we wouldn’t return. So we go in last night for some good food and saki. When our chef came out I will admit, I was nervous. He was new. So I resigned myself to a subpar meal. WOW was I wrong. Not only did Chef Jeff make THEMOSTDELICIOUSMEALEVER, he also gave us a show we’ve never seen before! I recommend everyone hit this place up and request Chef Jeff! You will NOT be disappointed.

I’ll make this short as I do not wish to waste anymore of my time thinking about this place. Horrible service. Although I’d rather support the local business I will never be back. Benihana has earned my dollar by default.

Let me preface this by saying this a review of their lunch buffet only. I don’t live in the area and have never been there for dinner. My wife and I have enjoyed their lunch on a few occasssions. The sushi is pretty decent for a buffet, and you know the hot food is fresh because there is a chef constantly cooking more of it directly behind the buffet. Our waitress seemed to be the only one working a fairly busy lunch, yet she was very attentive. We got miso soup within seconds of sitting down, our water and hot tea were kept full, and our empty plates disappeared quickly. She actually apologized because it took her like three whole minutes to charge my credit card because another table came in and she rushed to seat them and get them soup. Would definently go back.

Total disappointment! Had reservation for 14 people, waited almost 30 minutes for tables and were not told that we couldn’t all sit together. They put us in «private room» with 2 tables. 1 waitress for 2 tables and she completely served drinks and took orders for one table before even approaching our other table. We waited almost and 1.5 hrs. to get 1st tables cooking going. Food was ok but they don’t tell you they charge extra for everything, i.e. fried rice and drink refills. Our bill for 4 people was over $ 160 and they included tip because of our large party, even though we had 7 people at each table and were not served or fed in anyway together. If you make a reservation, they should be prepared to accommodate your party when they arrive! Thank god for the bus boy who brought us lots of water and steamed rice for the kids who were very hungry!

Lunch time here is good if you go for the buffet. Dinner time, not worth the price. Had a couple birthday dinners here with the family and the food is just OK. Ordered the sesame chicken and it was not what i expected. I had better ones from the DISH…

No, just no. If you’re thinking of coming here, no. I first dined here about 10 years ago and have always thought it was a great place to go for special occasions knowing it can be pretty spendy. It’s been over a year since we’ve been here last and boy has it changed. Went on a Monday night around 8, no special occasion. There were no other people in the restaurant and we were seated immediately. Two groups came in after we did but the staff was very attentive to everyone, paying extra attention to my kids. While looking over the menu the server said, «I noticed you’re looking at the sushi menu, we don’t have sushi tonight.» Awesome… We ordered 2 appetizers, 3 dinner combinations, and 2 children’s dinners, plus drinks. The chef was great as the chefs here have always been, very accommodating, nice and knows how to put on a show. But the food, oh the food. It was bland and nothing like I remembered. I have always ordered the same dish, filet mignon and shrimp. The food always seemed to melt in your mouth and be full of flavor but tonight it was nothing to write home about. I had the urge to ask for salt and pepper. Even the dipping sauce for the seafood and the meat seemed to be lacking flavor. At the end of dinner my husband asked about dessert and the server said, «That’s only included for the kids.» Okay? Not quite what we were asking but go ahead and give all of them a scoop of ice cream and give us our small orange section. We got the bill and I crapped my pants — $ 250 with the added gratuity(which is a completely separate issue that I have beef with). After looking over the bill I realized that all 5 dinners were charged an extra $ 4.95 for fried rice. Seriously, we paid an $ 24.75 for five bowls of fried rice instead of getting the standard white rice. I’m willing to bet the amount of shrimp that the guy put in our fried rice didn’t come anywhere near $ 24.75 we were charged. The«Cherry Tempers» that my kids ordered(Shirley Temples) were each $ 3.50 each, and all of a sudden I didn’t feel bad that they all at least had one refill. Unfortunately, we probably won’t be coming back, no matter what the occasion is. There are far better restaurants in Anchorage that our family of 7 will enjoy dining at for at least half the amount we spent here tonight.

I had previously been to this same Kobe several years ago, so I was excited to go recently for my friend’s birthday dinner. I will never, ever go back. They had made reservations for all of us, but we still waited 45 minutes for a table. The server spilled water on my husband and I immediately upon seating us, but did not apologize, and sighed while she handed us our glasses instead of putting them on the table. Next, the server argued with another member of our party, saying the item he had ordered wasn’t on the menu. He had to show her and read to her the item listing, which she rolled her eyes at and said she had never heard of. She later came back to tell him it wasn’t available anyway, so he would have to pick something else. Despite us repeatedly mentioning my friend’s birthday, the staff did none of their customary birthday celebratory routines– even though they did it for another table later in the evening. The food was mediocre at best, and considerably overpriced. The server couldn’t figure out what meals went onto what tab, and very awkwardly asked everyone who would be paying for their meal. Same server then rudely stood at the table, tapping her fingers together like she was annoyed, but refusing to speak. When a guest tentatively asked for a to-go box, she exclaimed«THAT’S what I’ve been waiting for.» and marched off, and then returned to sloppily and nastily box the remainders of her food. The entire experience was so shockingly bad that several us wrote notes on our receipts that we would not be returning to the restaurant. Bottom line: Benihana’s is cheaper, with better service, better quality food, and better parking. Not only will I never return to Kobe, I will never recommend anyone else to go there either.

Came at 5:30pm. There was one other group of customer. Service was great. Interior clean. Food was good. I got the kobe dinner. Was great. Cant go wrong with steak cook fresh in front of you. This is basically just like Benihana in downtown. Same style of cooking in front of you. The portion seems a little bigger then Benihana. Good alternative place. This place would get more customer if it wasnt for the area its in. Overall good place. Dont let the area or quiet business inside fool you.

Went because we had a gift certificate. I’d looked online at their menu and checked out prices… seemed reasonable so we invited our adult son. Its been a few years, but nothing has changed. We were dining early and my son ordered a sushi plate only to be told none was available. Service was prompt, the chef entertaining, but the food was very pedestrian for the price, .(Which was way above the price listed online). Lots of garlic and butter buried the flavor of the scallops. Maybe the fun has worn off and the concept is now tired… I’m not sure, but am not in a rush to go back.

Their meats are frozen like no other. And of course coming from California, I will be biased towards their bbq. Ordered their pork belly and brisket. Brisket was okay, but their pork belly was super greasy and fatty tasting. You know how some fish are really fish-y? Well this pork belly was really pork-y. It was not good. Side dishes were limited and servings of the meat was really little for the price. I felt like I was getting jipped… but…I’m in Alaska. What can I expect? It’s better to buy some meat from the market and grill it at home… that’s when it’s best.

Love this place… Comfortable atmosphere if you don’t mind sitting at a table with folks you don’t know. The chefs are entertaining and they whip up some mighty tasty eats! Make sure you call and make reservations… they get pretty busy.

This is a good place to eat. Just like benihana but a little cheaper. It’s still a little pricy but the show was worth it. My 2 year old liked the show also. I would only go on a special occasion.

We made a reservation and it took about 30 minutes to be seated– just the two of us. As we waited they put us in the dining area(separate from the tappayaki side) and gave us water. Uh, thanks. What was the purpose of the reservation? They used huge globs of margarine– and it tasted like it. Won’t be back.

Every time I have come to update my review, I’ve had to knock a star down. I’m lost on this place now, I just won’t be going back again. To sum up the last visit: super crowded, but we only wanted to sit at the sushi bar. No sushi chef at the station. Took ages to even get a chance to order. No refills on anything. The manager, who was running about. «managing» things made our sushi. Sneezed, I think into his hand. Aghh god. Unbelievably overpriced for what it was worth. I ordered the vegetable roll, and it was completely different, like every other time, so absolutely no consistency. My partner ordered this fantastic-looking roll with the fire presentation, and his was big and full of stuff. Mine was half of a nori sheet with some vegetables, cut into such thin slices, they fell apart when I picked them up with my chopsticks. A total of five tiny individual slices, and it cost $ 13.95. It was two dollars cheaper than the fish-filled, sauce-covered, fire-enlightened roll that he got. *Fourteen* dollars for something that was smaller than an appetizer, and less satisfying. It pisses me off enough that sushi restaurants greatly overcharge for shoving pickled veggies onto some rice, but this really took the bean cake. I’m just done with Kobe, and won’t be giving them another chance. The food is consistently unpredictable and overpriced, the service is painful and impossible, you can never get anything right. It’s just a nightmare of a place. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me three, four, five times, it’s a lesson learned on my idiotic part.

Husband and I have been talking about checking this place out for ages. And then a coupon presented itself, so it was obviously meant to be. We slipped in just in time, as all of the tables were full within 10 minutes of our arrival. Our chef(Brock? Braque?) was pretty awesome and had a great sense of humor. The food was quite tasty(I do love me some free shrimp), and our table, consisting of 4 different couples, hit it off. Downside is definitely a speed and service thing. There seemed to be only 2 chefs working between the 5 or 6 stations they have set up, and our meal took over an hour and half. We had planned to have tons of time to eat, and then grab an early seat at a Bear Tooth movie. But as it turns out, we grabbed our movie seats just as the opening scene started… Our entire table had coupons, but all agreed that it was a good place. We will definitely be back, but we won’t have plans afterward.

Had a great chef and a great time! Much more quaint than Benihana & anxious to try the lunch buffet sometime. The parking in back was great! Service couldn’t have been better.
