Kriners is known for their breakfast and although it’s pretty good with huge portions and decently priced for a family to eat at they’re really not that amazing like I keep hearing I would say they are one step above typical family restaurants not enough for me to keep coming back.

In a city where good food and quite scarce this place made our short list! Not a bad price and the Andy’s Awesome is just that… AWESOME!!! We definitely will be coming back!

Spot on. Terrific service(they work well as a team), great food and quickly. I have always enjoyed breakfasts here, and my sons love the burgers.

Good food and service every time I’ve eaten at Kriner’s Diner. Busy at most food rush times through out the day. The good food and service bring the hungry back again and again.

Kriner’s Diner. Love this place. Cheap prices, huge portions, delicious food, and a friendly wait-staff. What more could you ask for? My boyfriend and I will occasionally go here on a random weekday morning for breakfast. Their breakfast is hands down the best in Anchorage(and that’s coming from a true breakfast fanatic). From their omelets to their biscuits and gravy– to the dozens of other drop dead delicious items on their menu, this place delivers quality time and time again. Kriner’s is located in a bit of an ‘out of the way’ destination. It’s not really near anything else– so you do have to make a point to drive to it. With that being said, it’s worth finding. It can get a bit crowded on Sundays, but most of the other days of the week it’s relatively low-key. It’s a clean little establishment with lightly colored décor that definitely brightens your mood. It reminds me of a little Midwestern café with cutely worded signs hung on the wall, well-spaced seating areas, and a small kitchen in the back. The waiters wear t-shirts with the name of the diner printed on them. It’s nothing fancy and you don’t need to dress up to come in here. It’s a very casual place. With that being said, it’s cozy, it’s well-maintained, and it’s always cleaned. The waiters are always very quick to serve and even during their busiest times are courteous and ready to deliver anything you ask for. But I don’t go here for the casual feel, cute décor, or nice waiters. I go here for the food. If you want big portions for a fair price– Kriner’s is the place to go. Most things on this menu range from $ 10 to $ 20(most falling between $ 12 and $ 17). You’ll pay the same price you do at Denny’s, but you’re getting better quality food from a locally owned business. And the food here IS amazing. My boyfriend who’s a huge fan of corned beef and hash swears that this place has the best corned beef and hash he’s ever had. I love their ‘make your own omelet’ option– as the omelet is made of 4 eggs, meaning you’re getting a pretty healthy serving of food(along with the hashbrowns and toast). They have a lot of kid-friendly options including fluffy yummy pancakes. Their lunch/dinner menu is also filled with traditional diner options. I have to always recommend the breakfast, though. This is THE place to go for breakfast. The last time I came here I made the mistake of wearing heels on their icy parking lot(as a long time Alaskan I really should have known better). I ended up crawling inside on my hands and knees because I couldn’t walk on the slick parts. Needless to say– that’s how much I love this place. I’m willing to crawl across ice to get inside. I love the décor, the staff, and most of all– the food. Next time I’ll wear tennis shoes, but there definitely WILL be a next time. Love my Kriner’s.

Just average. Although it was a kinda kwerky diner with lots of funny sayings on the wall it was just kinda Blah. I ordered the chicken fried steak with eggs and hash browns. I asked for the hash browns well done and they came just barely cooked. I didn’t send them back I ate half my steak and left. My father ordered an omelette and he seemed happy with it he asked for his hash browns the same way and it came the barely cooked as well.

I was debating between a 3 and a 4… We came Sunday around 11 and it was full, but there was a steady flow of two tables in and two tables out so we only waited 5 min. I got the corned beef hash and I LOVEDIT! It was really meaty with good potatoes nicely separated! I love getting the corned beef hash as a comparing dish for different breakfast joints. The service was quick and friendly. I opted for a 3 for my husband’s dish… He got the reindeer sausage skillet and t was pretty slim on the reindeer sausage. It had good flavor, but you can’t really go wrong with reindeer sausage. And they forgot the bread. Not bad, but it wasn’t a 4 considering all aspects of our experience. It’s a good place, but I probably won’t go back considering there some other awesome breakfast joints in town. Acutally, maybe I’ll come back to try some other diner staples :)

One of my favorite diners in anchorage. I do like café AK too very good. The burgers and breakfest are some of the best in town.

This is another one of those«good by Alaskan standards» restaurants. The fact that the servers would disappear every 8 minutes to smoke tobacco and come back smelling like that was very off putting. Did they wash their hands? The food was very bland not to mention over priced. If your from the lower 48 where they have standards you probably won’t like this place.

I’ve been meaning to hit up Kriner’s, and I finally had the chance to do so today. The menu venue looked strangely familiar, and when I started chatting to my server, I learned why. Kriner’s has a connection with another restaurant on the Kenai Peninsula with similar newspaper style menus… cool beans. It was the cusp between breakfast and lunch, and I chose the latter. The newsprint menu teased me with«freshly roasted turkey» for its sandwiches and open-faced turkey sandwich. Again, I chose the latter to see how it compared with my Homer favorite. Ding! Great choice! The turkey was indeed like Thanksgiving leftovers covered in a gravy that was just right. The mashed potatoes were fresh as well evidenced by the big chunks of potato therein. I’ll be back for breakfast!

I’m not big on diners, but my hubs is, and he always says, «you can never go wrong with diner food…» He’s eaten @ the sister location that just serves burgers & pies(next to Bass Pro Shop) & he thought it was just alright, so we decided to go to the actual restaurant that has a full menu. I ordered the meatloaf & my hubs ordered the Andy’s Awesome burger w/the tater tots. Can I just say, tater tots make me happy! It’s so nostalgic & reminds me of my elementary school days, eating in the cafeteria with those lunch trays! I only had a couple bites of his burger(and if y’all know me & my past reviews, burgers are everything in my book), and it was really good. The jalapeño cheese w/the special sauce + the bacon gives it a good balance of a mild heat & sweetness. My meatloaf was HUGE(see pix I posted) & I was only able to eat half of it. There’s is a little different because they don’t use a typical ketchup sauce, but a gravy. Lastly, can I just say how CLEAN it is in there? My hubs & I always look at that when walking into a restaurant. We even noticed that they wipe down the window sill! I’m a NEATFREAK, so when I see things like that, it’s always a good thing. We also like to say, if they keep the restaurant clean, that means the kitchen is clean too! Isn’t that important to y’all? I know it is to me! Oh, they get an extra shout out for giving my kids a toy when we left. They gave my daughter a slinky & my son a kaleidoscope.

I am a big fan of Kriner’s Burgers & Pies so I decided to finally try the Diner out. I was pleasantly surprised by the atmosphere and absolutely love the format of menu especially with the items named after family members and the back stories. The service was not fantastic but for sure was not poor, they have Diet Mountain Dew which in my book is a huge plus… but it was 2.99 for a soda, and yes you get refills but IMHO that is seriously overpriced. As for the food… the portions are insanely huge which I suppose is nothing to complain about but the prices were quite high to support the massive quantities. If you want a burger or chicken sandwich stick to the Burgers & Pies joint but if you want a huge plate of decent grub this might be right up your alley.

If anyone says«let’s go to Kriner’s», I jump on the opportunity right away to go. I don’t care if both of my legs and arms are broken, I’ll find a way. Nothing could keep me from this place except a divine mandate from God Himself. Need more? Fine. This is a family owned and run place that runs like a well oiled machine. It’s full of familial charm and ambience and no pretense; just food that is amazing. They have a whole plate of nothing but Thanksgiving food with all the fixings. If you’re on a diet, do not go here… you will screw it all to hell. If you want comfort food and intend to run a lot later? You’re golden. And now I want to go again and get some chicken fingers…

I’ve only eaten here one time and I’m resistant to want to base a review on one meal, since many of the things I saw folks eating looked pretty good. I personally ordered the cornbeef hash. I didn’t really care for it, but I know some folks really like it. It was a bit to greasy for my liking but like I said many other things looked good. I’m going to reserve judgement on this one until I’ve had the opportunity to go back again and try something else. For now I’ll just give them 3 stars, and will update my review status on my next visit.

Very, very busy during weekend breakfast and brunch hours. It was just crowded and chaotic with waiters and waitresses hustling and bustling to meet the needs of all these hungry patrons. They were so busy, that it took them a bit to even acknowledge that we were waiting to be seated. This place is a bit small, and the layout seems a bit messy and doesn’t flow well in my opinion. It could be so much more efficient. Speaking of efficient, I really liked the sense of teamwork that the waiters had. The service was as good as it could be, considering how busy it was when we were there. This restaurant is family friendly so bring anyone! I also think it’s funny how the menus are printed on newsprint. When you walk in, it feels like being in the past since everyone looks like they’re reading the morning paper. Their faces are just buried in that paper. The food you ask? Today I had the reindeer sausage skillet and I was pretty content with it, except it had very little reindeer sausage. It was very filling though and held me over for the rest of the afternoon. For $ 14.49 it’s a generous amount of food. Honestly the breakfast looked and tasted very basic. The ingredients were all piled on top of each other on a skillet, but that was about it. I think what took away from the skillet feel is that the gravy for the biscuit was in a small plastic bowl, inside the skillet, with the rest if the food. The temperature was also not very skillet-like. We still enjoyed our visit and look forward to trying new items. There’s so much potential, and I sure hope to see this place get more awesome.

At the recommendation of a local we had to give this place a try and we were so glad we did! The service was great! Fast and friendly. The food is what really sets this place apart. The portions were large and everything we had tasted really good. I had to try the donut bacon cheeseburger, which the server rx’d. I wasn’t sure what to think after reading what it had but thought I had to try it, it wouldn’t be on the menu if people didn’t like it. The flavors all worked well together, I liked getting the sweet of the donut with the savory/saltiness of the bacon and burger. I opted for salmon chowder instead of fries which was also tasty. I was really satisfied with my meal, as was everyone else at our table. We ended up here on their 1 year anniversary by chance and they were giving out free slices of cake. There was no way I had enough room to eat anymore so we decided to share a piece and force it down, even their cake was awesome! I could imagine the rest of their desserts being really good too. I wish we would have made a second stop here instead of some of the other places in Anchorage we visited.

Kriner’s has a lot going against it. It’s a cursed location that’s extremely difficult to access unless you’re driving southbound C Street from downtown. But if the food were good enough people would go. But Kriners is doomed unless they figure out what the hell they’re doing. It looks like a smallish bistro inside, rather than a diner. Cute, actually, with a lot of potential. I don’t know how they have the nerve to call themselves a diner with such a limited menu. Our food was sooo flavorless, except my salad dressing, which may well have been rancid. The only thing diner-y about Kriner’s is that they must keep their food under heat lamps since it came out in a flash and the texture reflected this. If the prices were diner-y, I would be more forgiving. But 32 bucks plus tip for chicken fried steak and a shitty burger with super small salad gave me a serious case of buyer’s remorse. I’m really disappointed.
