It’s been over a year, and as a pal and I were driving around we decided to stop in and give this place another try. We had both come here our first and only time, but I was surprised when he suggested it as I hadn’t thought of this place too much since we stopped in. Still great décor, and decent service, but food is still really meh. Started with the beef gyowza and thought the vinegar soy sauce was okay, the gyowza juicy, but overall lacking in flavor. I ordered the pepper filet rare, that comes with veggies and rice, and while it was cooked right it didn’t seem amazing. My friend ordered the sweet and sour prawns that was good, but you could have ordered that as take out from New Sagaya. Not to knock this place down so much, I just wasn’t impressed with the dinners both times, but I bet lunch would be much more enjoyable. For the price your best bet is to go elsewhere.

Great place for a quick lunch. I work inside the Key Bank building so whenever I’m too lazy to leave the building for lunch, I come here. Food is pretty good but a bit pricey. But I’d rather pay a little more for good food than to go out for lunch during the cold winter days. Their wonton soup is my fave soup and their garlic prawns are to die for! It comes on a bed of noodles. I think I could probably eat that every day. Their garlic sauce is definitely on point. Portions are very generous. I find myself over stuffing my tummy every time I eat here. Can’t help it :) Staff is super friendly. I was surprised that they remembered what I ordered a couple of weeks ago… and i’m not even really a regular here.

Gluten free accommodations on most of their menu. Had the Double Mushroom Chicken– it was moist & very tasty. Quiet atmosphere & quick, friendly service.

This is a great place. I’ve taken many of my friends and co-workers here and they all agree it is some of the best, if not the best Chinese food in Anchorage. Living in Anchorage you may have lost all hope for decent Chinese food, but I’m telling you try this place before you get despondent. Their menu isn’t large by any means but what comes to the table is prepared perfectly and tastes better than any other Chinese food I’ve eaten in Alaska in five years. I recommend the Kung Pao Chicken at lunchtime. The portions are satisfying and the price is reasonable. You will leave happy. Out of curiosity I’ve been sampling their substantial Deli-Style menu items as well which include some creative sandwiches like the Dillingham which is bbq Brisket topped with cole-slaw and melted cheddar. The Ruby’s Burger is utterly fresh and satisfying with two thick slices of bacon and a fresh ½ pound patty that tasted pristine and juicy. This is one of the best burgers in anchorage at a reasonable price. All the sandwiches are served with a spear of Boar’s-Head giant Dill pickles which I love. Gets pretty busy at lunchtime, but never annoyingly so. It’s a comfortable clean environment inside. Stealth dining find here. Who would think someplace so good is on the bottom floor of the Key bank building.

Very unimpressed with this place. Definitely was just average food and was not worth the price.

Surprisingly good. This is an odd place in the first floor of a business building, and it’s closed on Mondays. But once you get in there are table clothes and mood lighting. Sure it’s a little awkward, since, you know, this is Anchorage and the ladies in the other booth were badmouthing Hunger Games(what?!) but the food was tasty. We had a groupon and got the beef potstickers, black pepper fillet mignon, and tangerine chicken. All were very tasty. The portion of the black pepper fillet mignon was a little small — I think there were like 8 cubes of beef for $ 20. That seems steep to me. But the flavoring was great. I’m not sure the regular prices would be worth the portions, but with the groupon I felt I was getting a great deal.

Ruby’s was a huge disappointment. I met a friend there around 6:30 in the evening. The dining room seemed pleasant and it was full. However, there were only about 3 servers. We ordered three appetizers — bean curd and spinach soup, Asian crabcakes, and ahi tuna. The soup was brought fairly prompt but only about lukewarm. It was very bland. The broth was obviously from chicken stock but had too much thickener. My friend sent it back. There were three crabcakes in the order. Not sure why they were called Asian, but they appeared to be nicely breaded and fried. The inside was very mushy, and tasted like a canned crab — not lump meat. Again very bland. The dipping sauce was equally unappetizing — mayo mixed with some wasabi. The ahi tuna came cubed and served in a martini glass. This was probably the best dish we had. The tuna tasted fresh, and had a garlic, sesame coating. It also came with a small portion of salad greens that had some small pieces of oranges and a nice vinaigrette. We opted not to order dinner based on the service and the lack of taste of the appetizers. While waiting for our bill, we spoke to the young couple beside us — they were still waiting for their dinner order. It had been almost 2 hours since placing it. We had a groupon for $ 20 but the food was still spendy for what we got. I’m not sure what lunch is like but based on my experience, I wouldn’t probably waste my time to find out. At least our warm sake was perfect!

My fiancée and I went here for lunch recently and we both felt like it was a complete waste of money. I got the«halibut» fish and chips which was a BIG mistake. A lot of places say their fish and chips are made with halibut when they are really made with cod. Cod is much less expensive than halibut but fortunately it still tastes pretty good. Well this place not only does not use halibut, I think they use something really cheap and nasty like arrowhead flounder. I barely ate any of it and ended up getting lunch at a drive-thru somewhere else, which says something because I don’t like to toss anything I paid for unless I absolutely have to. My fiancée had one of their Asian dishes. It was not very good although not nearly as nasty as the fish and chips. The chicken was drenched in some kind of unappetizing sauce that probably came straight out of a mix packet like you would buy at the grocery store. The rice was dry and unedible. She did not finish her lunch either. I don’t like writing really negative reviews like this because it isn’t my desire to hurt anyone’s business, but this place was truly awful. Maybe they’ll pull themselves together but for now I would avoid this joint at all cost.

We’ve been to Ruby’s 3 or 4 times for dinner and always loved it until our last experience a few weeks ago. Ruby’s doesn’t open for dinner until 5:30 which is a little late for us, but when we arrived there at 6pm, sign on door said it was closed. Luckily, we pushed at the door and found it was open, and sign was still up by mistake. Like our other times there for dinner, the restaurant was almost empty, with only two or three(at most) tables occupied. They still hadn’t gotten the much promised beer/wine license, although we keep being assured it is «close». There is only one soup available at dinner, a pumpkin wonton soup. We wish there would be other choices. Also, our favorite meal there has been the walnut shrimp. Until this recent visit, this was a large helping of good-sized shrimp with a wonderful honey sauce and candied walnuts. This last time, there were significantly fewer, smaller shrimp. The price was unchanged, however, and as others have noted, prices are not cheap here. We were really disappointed, and are reluctant to go back.

Until tonight I’ve only been to Ruby’s at lunch when their deli menu & Mongolian beef lunch are wonderful. It’s a bright, clean sandwich shop. Reasonable prices. Dinner, the lights are dimmed and tablecloths out. Completely different atmosphere and menu. Creative and fresh Chinese food with twists. As appetizers, we had calamari which was crisp and flavorful, and gyoza which was moist and tasty. Shrimp with candied walnuts was well cooked and flavorful. My husband had slightly spicy chicken curry which he said was good. The boys had cowboy steak and thought it was boring; chunky fries too spicy. dinner for four was $ 120 wo alcohol which seems spendy. All in all dinner was good but I prefer Ruby’s lunch menu & experience.

Great food and atmosphere. The Chinese Selections are the best Chinese Selections in town. Good parking, easy access and very good service. Try the Kung Pao Chicken or Shrimp. The daily specials are very tasty as well. Try out Rubys and you won’t be disappointed.

We stopped by around 6 p.m. to get a quick sandwich and found that they were now offering their dinner menu. Ruby’s is little pricy but the soups & salads are excellent. We enjoyed the cowboy steak as well as the nice quite atmosphere. The service was outstanding.

Wow — a gem of a find in Alaska! The Chinese food here is awesome — very authentic Northern Chinese, and TASTY. Who would have thought of having Chinese food at night in a deli called Ruby’s Café… I had the«Mu Shu Pork» with torttilla wrap, and my wife had the«Walnut Prawns» Hong Kong style. For appetizer we had the«Lollipop chiken» — something recommended by he chef, and it was like nothing I ever tasted before in any Chinese restaurant(I’ve been to over 100 of them in my lifetime) — really yummy. The portions were hearty, and the whole bill came to less than $ 30 apiece. My only complaint is that they don’t serve beer and wine — I was told the liceense would be issued soon. It’s not the kind of place you would take a first date if you want to impress her, but it’s clean, and the best part is that there’s no lines in the evenings. I would definitely recommend it for a couple or family just looking for great Chinese food, for a reasonalbe price.

I think this is one of the better places to open recently. Big portions and good food. Much better than any of the chain restaurants in midtown and as cheap as going to Carrs deli, for example. Try the house rice plate.

So gave Ruby’s another chance. This time I called ahead. I called at 11.21(checked on the the phone afterwards). They put me on hold for 3 – 4 minutes then told me they would call me right back… really…ok 11.35 they called back and the sandwich would be ready in 20 minutes. Walked in at 11.52 and they told me it would be another 10 minutes. I walked out and went to Arby’s A SANDWICH… unreal

What a great place that has opened up in Anchorage! The sandwiches are amazing and ingredients are very fresh. The décor is very welcoming… and everything is always kept nice and clean! Go and check it out!
